Two techniques for symmetric multiple description coding with reduced storage space decoderZheng, Ting January 2008 (has links)
In this work we propose two techniques for symmetric multiple description coding with reduced storage space decoder. The first technique is multiple description scalar quantizer with linear joint de-coders. We propose an optimal design algorithm similar to Vaishampayan's algo-rithm, to which we add an index assignment optimization step. We also solve an additional challenge in the decoder optimization, by proving that the problem is a convex quadratic optimization problem with a closed form solution (under some mild conditions). Our tests show that the new method has very good performance when the probability of description loss is sufficiently low. The other technique is an improvement to the traditional multiple description coding scheme based on uneven erasure protection. We evaluate the asymptotical performance of both schemes for a Gaussian memoryless source. The analysis reveals that the improvement reaches over 1 dB for up to ten descriptions and low probability of description loss. From our experiments we observe that the improved scheme is very competitive comparing to other multiple description techniques as well. / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

A Display System for Bliss SymbolicsCallway, E.G. 04 1900 (has links)
<p> A microprocessor driven display was built and programmed for the storage and reproduction of Bliss symbols. An explanation is offered for the success of the symbol language in teaching the handicapped.</p> <p> The hardware was designed to be inexpensive enough for classroom use, but still deliver adequate flexibility and resolution. Due to the complexity and variety of the symbols a method of data compaction was developed to reduce the required storage space.</p> <p> Initial tests are presented and suggestions are made for continuing the work.</p> / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)

Improvement to Storage Space Allocation Plan and Assigned Mechanism of Large Scale Object by using System Simulation technique¡XStainless Steel Processing Industry as an ExampleWu, Jia-Jiun 24 August 2011 (has links)
Research into appropriate plan of storage space is not a new issue. Several journals includestudies of storage space Allocation plan as the main topic whereas most of them focus on the subject of distribution center rather that of large scale object warehouse and few of them are to discuss the issue of storage space distribution from warehouse attendant¡¦s viewpoint. The cost of crane operation of large scale object is high; hence, inappropriate planning of large scale object may increase turning frequency of order picking. Due to this, storage operation speed will slow down and cost will rise, and thus will make it less competitive. Warehouse attendants always allot present storage by their own experiences; thus, they rarely transform their experiences into principles. If the principle of inbound operation can be documented by characters and if the implicit knowledge of warehouse attendants can be expressed explicitly, then storage department will have an efficient way of inbound operation for reference.
By the method of Storage allocation strategy, this study is to analyze the necessary information of storage plan. It draws up several principles of storage assignment; according to the different production conditions the variable principles will be assigned to assist storage space assignment and ways of piling. By this way, it decreases frequency of using large scale object hanging machines and thus speeds up shipping simultaneously. Finally, this study performs a simulated analysis of inbound operation via simulation software. By this way of simulation, it makes comparisons between different experimental results. It is proven that this way can help warehouse attendants to choose appropriate mode of inbound operation according to the different orders.

Temporary storing in future car interiorsPalmblad, Fredrik January 2018 (has links)
This essay reflects a final thesis work of exploring future opportunities of temporary storing in future car interiors. The work is based from user studies and supported by designers of the automotive industry. The exploratorypart focuses on contextual video interviews studying the use of the interior storage space. Categories are created from the studies to investigate several possibilities parallel throughout the work. A category of exible space is chosen to being developed into a nal design proposal. The result is a concept called LVL - A exible surface that o ers di erent use of the same space.

Design elektrického skútru / Design of electric scooterOujezdský, Lukáš January 2016 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is to design an electric scooter targeted at innovative approach to the design of the technical, aesthetic , ergonomic and ecological requirements . The main objective is to devise a practical design and shape characteristic of the machine , which in itself will reflect the selected drive type . The scooter should be the ideal solution for the movement in urban centers, which will be practical with an attractive appearance of ecological vehicles . Its unusual solution to the problem of storage space in this category of motorcycle , scooter would have become a good alternative to conventional means of transport with a combustion engine

Artikelhantering som förutsättning för en effektiv lagerhållningsstrategi vid ökad efterfrågan : ABC/XYZ-analys och lagerplatsbehov på Micropower / Inventory management as prerequisite for an efficient warehousing management strategy during expansive growthOlsson, Anton, Siggesson, Oskar, Hedendahl, Mattias, Sandstedt, Max January 2022 (has links)
Title: Inventory management as prerequisite for an efficient warehousing managementstrategy during expansive growth Authors: Oskar Siggesson, Mattias Hedendahl, Anton Olsson & Max Sandstedt Examinator: Hana HulthénTutor: Petra Andersson Background: The company is in a period of strong growth and is suffering from growingpains. The company is moving to a new location with a larger storage space in 2024 butsomething has to be done before the move. Because of high storage levels there is a lack offree storage space and the warehouse is soon reaching its breaking point. Objective: The report investigates how a change in warehousing strategies can helpMicropower cope with the growth in production until 2024. A forecast is created for thefuture need for storage space on a selection of products in a portion of the warehouse. Methods: This study is a case study of Micropower Group. The study uses secondary data inthe form of quantitative data from the company's business system, but to some extent also theauthor’s own observations. The data is used to perform an ABC/XYZ-analysis on thecompany's incoming inventory that forms the basis for segmentation of the articles. The studyalso conducts a sensitivity analysis of the company's storage space needs. Conclusions: By segmenting articles based on the ABC/XYZ-analysis, appropriateinstruments can be presented for the company's articles. The analysis forms a framework forMicropower's inventory management strategy but also for companies in similar situations.Based on the segmentation, information about the article's characteristics and appropriateinstruments. The study's sensitivity analysis of the forecast for storage space requirementsgives the company an indication of what increase in inventory turnover rate is required tomanage production growth. The study finds that in order to manage production growth therewill need to be an equally large increase in inventory turnover rate. Key words: ABC/XYZ-analysis, item management, inventory management strategy, differentiation, classification, forecast, sensitivity analysis, storage space
