Thesis (MTech (Business Administration in Project Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2019 / Communication forms an integral part of military management functions in safegaurding the territory and borders of the country through successful project execution. This explains cruciality and indispensability of communication in the military for effective management. Communication is not effective until intended recipient uderstand the message and be in a position to action required feedback, Akinnubi (2010:105). The research problem stems from structural impediments of communication that hampers procurement project execution. This study seeks to investigate the structural impediments of communication, bureaucratic systems and procurement as a strategy. The research exploited qualitative methodology, standards of social research techniques for sampling and methods of collecting data, through the administration of a questionnaire, direct observation, transcribing of qualitative data and document analysis. Project communication is measured by the extent in which results meets requirement and expectations of the clients. The researchers emphasizes that critical project information should be disseminated to project team members, timely for effective responds that propel project success. The target population for this research is 60 South African Navy Simon’s Town Procurement Service Centre (SPSC) employees, whom are entrusted with procurement responsibilities for the organization. The employees are the organizational representatives to different stake holders through communication mediums and channels. Communication over the years has become the centre diversification organizational study due to successful contribution for achieving organizational goals, when is correctly implemented and managed. The importance of communication enables organizational activity to be unified and serves as pillar upon inputs are fed to the systems to influence better decision making.

Budgeting as a strategic enabler

Budget and budgeting have become more than just control mechanisms over the past few years. They are seen as functions for strategic planning and a method to implement or assist the strategy implementation. The research report investigated whether the budget is a strategic enabler though different contributors of the budgeting process.In previous research the dissatisfactions of the budgetary process were identified, but this excluded the impact that the budget process had on the strategic plans of an organisation. Other research was done on how strategy was done in organisations, but not which methods or instruments were used to implement strategy in organisations. This study investigated the experiences and the views of financial and non-financial senior managers and executives on the budgetary process factors that would influence the implementation of the strategic plan of the organisation. In order to understand the views of the participants, a qualitative research approach was taken in the form of semi-structured expert interviews.The findings reflect that some of these factors that were identified do contribute to the budgeting process and to the budget for being a strategic enabler in an organisation. The surprising findings were that the non-financial respondents did not believe that the use of balanced scorecards would attribute to the implementation of a strategy and that the respondents did not agree to the cycle time of the budgets proposed. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

One of Ticor South Africa's1 (TSA) corporate values is to be a learning organisation. This implies that the organisation actively creates, captures, transfers and mobilises knowledge which enables it to adapt to a changing environment TSA utilise an interactive learning strategy. This strategy enabled positional competence which ensures that individuals are empowered to carry out their jobs. The learning strategy implemented utilises strategic human resources in development and learning management Its foundation and supports a philosophy of organisational culture. The penultimate chapter's looks at two culture surveys which the author designed and conducted in 2004/5, as well as a safety climate culture survey 2005 and an organisational culture analysis 2006. This was conducted in conjunction with an on-site consultant The findings of said surveys provided a pattern which substantiated the conclusion and recommendations obtained from the quantitative research methodology used.

Successful Strategies Ministers Use to Obtain and Manage Foundation and Government Grants

Ministers need a strategy for applying for the millions of dollars in grants available to churches for programs that will benefit communities. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the strategies that Christian ministers use to obtain and manage government and foundation grants. The conceptual frameworks were an emergent strategy and the ladder of accountability. Data were gathered from semistructured interviews with 4 Christian ministers in New York State and reviews of sample monthly and quarterly grant accountability reports. Selective coding was the data analysis process. The 3 major themes that emerged from the data analysis were program development strategy, budget review as a strategy, and performance reporting for accountability. Program development strategy emerged as a strategy for the ministers as they sought to determine a demographic to serve via a program activity to obtain grants. Budget review as a strategy emerged as the ministers used their budgets to determine the amount of the grants they needed to support their congregations and to select a grant opportunity based on program viability. Performance reporting for accountability was achieved by using a quarterly reporting form provided by the funder. As more community-focused activities and positive relationships increase within the community, ministers can focus on skills, programs, and strategies. As ministers implement programs that enrich the congregation and the local community, lives are changed, creating positive social change.

European Economic Integration and American Business Strategy

The term “economic integration” recently has been used for various forms of economic cooperation. Many writers have tried to give a working definition of it, but a review of the literature does not show any generally accepted definition. The term is used for several degrees of economic cooperation; harmonization; trade agreements; tariff-agreements; advanced forms of cooperation like tariff communities, customs communities, customs unions, free trade areas, common markets, monetary unions; and complete economic unions. Integration furthermore has been split into sector and total integration and has been determined by various criteria. Thus, it is very difficult to judge where economic activity is still in the form of a loose cooperation and where the term “integration “ is appropriate. The abolition of discrimination, regional extensions or limitations, harmonization of economic policies, inclusion of meta-economic factors, and the abolition of barriers to factor movements are some of the measurements. In fact, changes in their combination observed in existing economic systems makes it difficult to find a general definition which can be applied to all forms of cooperation.

In this thesis I argue that US Military and Civilian leadership in Iraq, while both well-trained and well-intentioned, implemented a failed strategy that sought to fill institutional gaps within various national and sub-national governmental entities. This strategy provided short-term gains by increasing the capacity and capability of Iraq’s government to deliver public goods and services to its citizens thereby improving government legitimacy. Yet, in the long-term, a largely decentralized approach to development, a maladaptive transition plan, and an illusory estimate of the capacity of the security apparatus within Iraq proved detrimental to the broader US strategic objectives and state-building efforts in Iraq.
