Barnfattigdom 2012 : Ett levande problem i Uppsalas skolor

Ljungh, Josefine, Sjölund, Daniel January 2013 (has links)
In this essay we aimed to find how economic scarcity among children and youth presents itself in school, according to how school staff experience it. We have conducted interviews with student welfare staff to hear their experiences of this subject and how the schools try to help these pupils. We have used interpretative phenomenology as a base for our work. We have also used some of this traditions most important notions along with notions of Erving Goffman and Sara Ahmed during our processing off the material.  With help from these, we report our most interesting results. We have seen that a lack of resources exists among youth today and that everyone not has easy access to things many of us might take for granted. Also, we have seen examples of how these circumstances can be mentally perceived. In the interviews we have been given examples of how schools try to support these pupils through free activities and through advices about and contact with helping agents in society. Some quotes and information from our interviewees has inspired us to discuss how the attitude and the relation we have to the subject may influence our work with it and the results that we reach.

Psykisk ohälsa i skolan - Ett kuratorsperspektiv

Friberg, Rebecka January 2014 (has links)
Mental illness in school – A counselors perspective - The purpose of the study is to examine school counselors work with students (13-15 years of age) who are struggling with mental illness. Focus on mental illness isdiscussed in a school context. From the school counselors perspective questionslike, what kind of working methods are they using and, how they collaborate areexamined. The research design is based on a qualitative approach, with ten Semistructured interviews with ten different informants who work as a counsellor at 10different schools around Skåne. The theories that highlights and are used foranalyzing the empirical material are the ecological systems theory (also calleddevelopment in context or human ecology theory), social facts theory, networktheory and network and exchange theory. The theories overall highlights theimportance of knowledge what causes the mental illness and the importance ofcollaboration between different authorities. Results in the study shows that, fromthe counselors experience, mental illness is increasing among younger studentsand is often related to stress caused by different factors within the school. Thestudy show a pattern that the counselors work with the same type of counsellingmethods. Some of them also mentions new types of technique in their work withthe children such as DISA and COOL kids. Another pattern is that the counselorshighlights the importance of collaboration, both within school but also with otherauthorities. A pattern is also that the school counselors find that the collaborationis difficult and that other authorities do not always want to collaborate, authoritieslike the social services and the child psychiatry. This is a very serious problemknowing that the mental illness is increasing. Another pattern in the study is thatthe counselors point out that they need more time to support the students, andmore understanding from politicians about their work of helping the student in theschool.

Thors, Maria January 2015 (has links)
Mental illness is a major public health problem that causes individual suffering and huge economic costs. Operations promoting mental health in children and adolescents are highly relevant where the school has an important role. School counselors became a statutory part of student welfare in 2010 whose main mission is to work with prevention and health promotion. The aim of this study was to examine how school counselors in Västmanland works to prevent mental illness and promote mental health in adolescents. A qualitative method with an inductive approach was chosen. Collection method was individual semistructured interviews. The sample for the study was six school counselors working in one or several primary-secondary school and/or high schools in Västmanland. An interview guide was used during the interviews that were recorded, transcribed and analyzed by a manifest content analysis. The results showed that school counselors have methods for preventive work but they did not mention many specific health promotion methods. They promote children and young people's mental health by being a social support and strengthen their empowerment. The school counselors all wanted to work more with prevention and health promotion but described the difficulty due to lack of time. The conclusion of this study is that there is a need for clearer guidelines on how school counselors should work with prevention and health promotion as well as increased resources for this work to be pursued.
