Previous issue date: 2012 / Estudo sobre o surto superoitista experimental brasileiro, sobretudo durante a ditadura militar (1964 a 1985), a partir de três aspectos: o corpo, a cidade e a metalinguagem. O recorte se fez necessário para analisar a desconstrução e a inventividade criativa de artistas e cineastas que enfrentaram a censura e as instituições artísticas. É a primeira geração responsável por diluir as fronteiras criativas e, assim, expandir o campo das artes e do cinema no país. A busca por um novo ideário imagético e comportamental produziu um surto experimentalista tanto na forma quanto no conteúdo. O que configurou uma íntima relação entre a estética e a política, numa exploração máxima dos limites, num profundo questionamento da vida e da produção de sentido à época. Por fim, este trabalho debateu o legado ético, estético e político no panorama experimental superoitista brasileiro.

moral em Nietzsche e sua superação na ideia do super homem. Para tanto,
delimitaremos nossa investigação aos textos da fase positivista do pensamento de
Nietzsche, sobretudo Humano, demasiado humano e os textos do período da
transvaloração, escritos após a publicação de Assim falou Zaratustra. A moral será aqui
analisada a partir da suspeita nietzschiana de que a tradição metafísica erigiu uma
concepção de homem desvinculada de sua relação mais imediata com os valores
humanos, os quais encontram seu fundamento em nossa existência terrena, a única que
podemos afirmar de forma plausível como existente. Uma moral humana, demasiado
humana, será possível a partir do momento em que a mesma seja desatrelada de noções como verdade, mundo inteligível. deus, essências. O super homem representa o homem que superou tais noções e constrói os valores morais a partir de um referencial terreno e, portanto, plural, transitório.

Most generic systems and hardware for non-governmental users lack capability to process images in high resolution coming from aerial crafts such as satellites, drones, airplanes and helicopters. These images are being displayed in poor quality due to the software running on low budgets, which restricts the high resolution they need. In this project I researched ways to obtain super high resolution images from aerial crafts for low cost and compared which method works best in producing the clearest and fastest images. I connected with the Loyola Marymount University Marketing team to collaborate with their photographers in producing the best quality aerial coverage images for the campus and city of Los Angeles.

Quantum Imaging of BiosamplesGrenapin, Florence 31 May 2023 (has links)
All far-field optical imaging is limited by diffraction from optical elements, a phenomenon called Rayleigh's curse. It has been shown that through the use of the spatial mode demultiplexing technique (SPADE), an arbitrarily small separation between two point sources can be resolved, given a sufficiently large total number of photons N. This quantum metrology approach to super-resolution has since then been demonstrated and generalized to more complex situations. We propose a variant of SPADE, that we call biphoton SPADE, applied to imaging systems with spatially entangled photon pairs generated through spontaneous parametric downconversion. Our method can achieve a higher precision than SPADE, given any non-zero level of entanglement. We furthermore demonstrate our technique in a coincidence imaging setup and show super-resolution while only projecting on a select few of the total optimal modes in the 2D joint basis. Since the method uses quantum light and provides even further sensitivity to SPADE, it can potentially be used in the future for various light-sensitive imaging applications and in combination with neural networks. In nature, one often finds structures that have only been replicated by humans through years of precise, state-of-the-art engineering. Polymer spherulites, naturally occurring birefringent crystals that grow around defects in a radial pattern, are an example of this. We show through the example of ascorbic acid, commonly referred to as Vitamin C, that spherulites are capable of creating beams with orbital angular momentum (OAM) through a process called spin-to-orbit coupling. This action of the ascorbic acid crystals is analogous to the one of spatially structured waveplates called q-plates, which are built to have an azimuthally dependant optic axis. This opens the door for potentially cheaper fabrication of q-plates, and possibilities of tuning the growth of the molecules for arbitrary wavefront shaping with natural crystals. Finally, because of the wide range of crystals in the spherulite class, further investigation into different spherulites could shed light on the relationship between crystal symmetry and structure, and the shaping of light.

A Content Analysis of Superbowl XVIKuykendall, Francis Marion 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to describe the content of information surrounding a significant sporting event presented by sportswriters through the printed medium. The event chosen for analysis was Superbowl XVI. Three metropolitan newspapers were selected as the sample representatives of the urban style of sports reporting. Two of these newspapers were chosen because of their geographical representation of a participating team. The third selection was taken because of its large circulation and relative unbiased reporting. From a pilot study conducted on Superbowl XV, content categories were found to fit in either one of two basic domains: cognitive or affective. The sample population for Superbowl XVI yielded 5,759 individual category entries based on 215 articles. The cognitive category comprised 94 percent of all items categorized, thus clearly demonstrating the dominant theme used by sportswriters for this event.

Orientador: Vicente Afonso Ventrella / Resumo: Os aços inoxidáveis duplex e superduplex são materiais muito importantes, tanto economicamente, quanto tecnologicamente. Esses materiais possuem uma microestrutura binária, composta de 50% ferrita e 50% austenita, combinando resistência à corrosão com resistência mecânica. A soldagem a laser desses materiais faz com que ocorra desbalanceamento entra as fases da microestrutura do metal de solda, havendo formação excessiva de ferrita, e assim, perdendo suas características de resistência à corrosão e propriedades mecânicas. Este trabalho tem como objetivo aumentar a proporção de austenita no metal de solda através da soldagem à laser Nd:YAG pulsado, autógena e dissimilar, dos aços inoxidáveis superduplex UNS S32750 e superaustenítico AISI 904L, sendo este um material rico em níquel, elemento gerador de austenita. A soldagem foi feita em uma junta de topo, variando-se a taxa de sobreposição do cordão de solda em cinco condições, de 50% até 90%. A energia de pulso foi fixada em 30 J, com potência de pico de 3 kW, largura temporal de 10 ms e frequência de 3 Hz. Argônio puro foi utilizado como gás de proteção, com vazão de 15 l/min. As macrografias mostraram que a redução na taxa de sobreposição gera áreas sem solda, além de porosidades. Não observou-se formação da zona termicamente afetada macroscopicamente visível. A fratura no ensaio de tração ocorreu no metal base superaustenítico, exceto na amostra com 50% de sobreposição que fraturou no metal de solda. O ensaio de microdureza... These materials have a binary microstructure, composed by 50% ferrite and 50% austenite, combining corrosion resistance with mechanical strength. The laser welding of these materials causes imbalance between the microstructural phases of the weld metal, with excessive ferrite formation, losing its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The main goal of this work is to increase the austenite proportion of the weld metal, through an autogenous and dissimilar pulsed Nd: YAG laser welding of the super duplex stainless steel UNS S32750 with the super austenitic stainless steel AISI 904L, which is a nickel-rich material. The welding was performed in a butt joint configuration, controlling the overlapping rate in five different conditions, from 50% to 90%. The pulse energy was fixed in 30 J, with peak power of 3 kW, temporal width of 10 ms and frequency of 3 Hz. Pure argon was used as protection gas, with a flow rate of 15 l/min. The macrographs showed that reducing the overlap rate generates large weld-free areas and porosities. There was no sign of macroscopically visible heat affected zone formation. The tensile test fracture occurred in the superaustenitic parent metal, except the 50% overlapping sample, that fractured in the weld metal. How Super PACs Supercharge Fundraising and Spending for Candidates in Presidential PrimariesMaglio, Domenic 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
The explosion of super PAC activity in presidential primaries since the 2012 election cycle prompts an examination of these organizations’ behavior and its effects on other types of committees. Specifically, this study investigates how fundraising and spending efforts by candidate-specific super PACs, or single-candidate super PACs, benefit their supported candidate’s principal campaign committee. Integrating data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and various qualitative sources, this study explores how candidate-specific super PACs are progressively exploiting their unique legal structure to fundraise for themselves and their candidate’s authorized committee. The probing reveals that candidate-specific super PACs steer contributions toward campaign committees through a process where soft money is transformed into hard dollars for the campaign to spend. Ordinary least squares and probit regression analysis are also used to determine whether the financial strength of candidate-specific super PACs relative to their candidate’s authorized committee influences the number and types of basic campaign activities the super PAC undertakes. The results indicate that the more a super PAC spends compared to its linked campaign, the more it will engage in more traditional campaign activities and have a greater probability of shouldering particular persuasion and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts. The study’s synthesized findings suggest that the financial activities of candidate-specific super PACs in a presidential nomination contest significantly and increasingly facilitate the operations of presidential hopefuls’ campaigns.

Les études de protéomique fonctionnelle nous indiquent que probablement aucune protéine n'accomplit une activité biologique ou acquiert sa conformation active de façon complètement autonome. La fonctionnalité des protéines est donc acquise via les interactions protéine-protéine. Pensons par exemples aux interactions protéine-protéine impliquées dans les cascades de signalisation cellulaire, aux complexes de transcription, de traduction etc. Vu la réelle importance des interactions protéine-protéine, la recherche en biologie est présentement en mouvance vers un nouveau courant, soit l'étude des interactions protéiniques ou l'interactomique. Les interactions inter protéine impliquant des super-hélices ont été étudiées chez la levure et il a été avancé qu'une protéine sur 11 interagirait avec d'autres protéines en utilisant un domaine structuré en super-hélice. Plus de 5% des cadres de lecture ouvert (ORFs) du génome de la levure détiendrait l'information modulant des motifs en super-hélice. La connaissance des structures en super-hélice est importante pour le développement, selon le cas, de diverses molécules d'importance pharmacologique pouvant moduler la dynamique d'assemblage, la protection ou le maintien de ces super-hélices. Pour étudier comment les protéines interagissent entre elles via les super-hélices, nous devons étudier les caractéristiques inhérentes de ces structures. Considérant la quantité impressionnante de super-hélices dans l'interactome et la quantité non négligeable de temps nécessaire pour élucider ces structures par une approche expérimentale il est évident que nous avons besoin de méthodes efficaces, rapides, faciles d'utilisation et facilement implémentables pour obtenir les modèles structuraux de toutes les catégories de super-hélices impliquées dans l'interactome en son entier. En se basant sur des postulats analogues à ceux que H.F.C. Crick avait émis en 1953, nous avons posé comme hypothèse que de maintenir chaque brin formant la super-hélice à une distance respectant celle retrouvée dans la structure de super-hélices préalablement déterminées expérimentalement serait suffisant pour générer ces mêmes super-hélices. Afin d'évaluer notre hypothèse, nous avons créé un protocole informatique utilisant un minimum de paramètres et nous l'avons testé en générant les domaines en super-hélices de huit protéines dont les structures furent déterminées par des méthodes expérimentales. Nos modèles générés sont très similaires aux structures expérimentales correspondantes (RMSD majoritairement<1) et nous avons trouvé une excellente similitude des conformations des chaînes latérales composant l'interface. De plus, nos modèles nous permettent d'identifier une certaine dynamique spécifique aux multimères et même à des résidus précis ayant une activité biologique démontrée crucial dans l'interactomique de ces super-hélices.

A multidisciplinary analysis of the hydrogeology of the Maricopa superconducting super collider (SSC) site, Maricopa County, ArizonaBrooks, Steven John, 1959- January 1988 (has links)
Geology and tunnelling was given by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as the most important criteria in siting the SSC. The impact of ground water on construction and vice-versa is an important part of a sites geologic and tunnelling attributes, and its potential environmental impacts. Because of the site's undeveloped nature, only limited reconnaissance-type investigations of the regions hydrogeology had occurred prior to the siting of the SSC. To overcome this ignorance geological, geotechnical, and geophysical characteristics of the site were used to describe the hydrogeology. A hydrologically ideal site would lie above any aquifers, have little or no surface water interaction, and yet, have an adequate and reliable supply of good quality water nearby. The Maricopa site possesses all of these characteristics while apparently being absent of subsidence due to ground-water withdrawal.

Hydrological considerations in locating the proposed Superconducting Supercollider in the Sierrita Mountains, ArizonaDavis, James Paulin Tilton, 1954- January 1989 (has links)
The Sierrita Mountains were investigated as a site for the proposed Superconducting Supercollider, which was to be housed in a ring-shaped tunnel more than 80 km (50 miles) in circumference. Geostatistical techniques including kriging were used to interpolate the potentiometric surface of the ground water and quantify its uncertainty along the proposed ring alignment to assess potential dewatering problems, based on the sparse water-level information available. Potential water supplies for the Superconducting Supercollider complex include local and imported good-quality ground water, poorer quality but abundant Central Arizona Project water, and Tucson or Green Valley municipal water. Ground water has the most suitable quality, but its development within the Tucson Active Management Area is restricted by state law.
