To achieve this aim, a discussion was held about the concept of supportive economy and networks. The principles of the supportive economy are the self-management and the solidarity between the members of the group, prioritizing the generation of work and income. For these groups to get stronger and enlarge themselves, they unite themselves creating supportive economy networks, whose principles are the appreciation of humans, their relationship with the environment and the good nutrition. After, there was the identification of the projects and the union in the networks, and was analyzed whether the projects fit the principles of the supportive economy. To perform the research, that has a qualitative approach of both exploratory and descriptive nature, a bibliographic and documentary research was made, by analyzing projectsundertaken in the last ten years, in the South Central region of Paraná. The analyzes were made from the protocols of projects, reports, support material, questionnaires and research with the Extension Section of Unicentro and from the participation in meetings, projects, interviews, and questionnaire at the Corajem Association. The dissertation is divided in four chapters. The first one presents the theoretical grounding about supportive economy and networks. The second chapter presents the city of Irati, Paraná, where the support bodies of the South Central region are located. The third chapter presents the Corajem Association and Unicentro, their projects, performances and partnerships. Lastly, the fourth chapter refers to the analysis of the projects and their performances in networks. The city of Irati supports the projects of Ecosol through the implementation of the current law and a forum, as well as the fairs, appreciating the quality and propagation of their products. The support bodies are integrated with other bodies in networks and their successfully completed projects are framed as Ecosol. / O objetivo desta dissertação é analisar as redes de economia solidária e sua atuação na região Centro Sul do Paraná, através dos projetos de extensão desenvolvidos pela Unicentro e pela Associação CORAJEM. Work Family Outcomes: Examining Family-Supportive Supervisor Behaviors and Flexibility in the Context of Low Wage Work

Pettey, Amanda R 01 September 2015 (has links)
Low wage workers are faced with unique challenges such as shift work, scheduling conflicts, and increased job demands, all of which have the capacity to prevent work and family balance. Recently, supportive supervisors and flexible work arrangements have been suggested as essential to mitigating negative work family outcomes. Due to the underrepresentation of low wage workers in the literature, however, the nature of these relationships in the context of low wage work remains unclear. The present study examined the relationship between family-supportive supervisor behaviors (FSSB) and work family conflict and enrichment as mediated by flexibility characteristics. The sample consisted of 104 supervisor-subordinate pairs working in various retail and fast food industries. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the hypothesized relationships, and although flexibility characteristics were not found to mediate the relationship between FSSB and work family outcomes, the overall model was supported. Results suggest that flexibility characteristics have a significant impact on work family conflict for low wage workers. Implications and directions for future research are discussed.

Strategies for Reducing Employee Stress and Increasing Employee Engagement

Subramaniam, Kumar G 01 January 2017 (has links)
Stress inside and outside of work affects employee productivity. In 2013, the estimated impact of employee absenteeism on U.S. businesses was $225 billion per year through reduced efficiency, overtime wages, fixed fringe benefits, and the cost of replacement employees. Based on the social exchange theory and the theory of planned behavior, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore the strategies that HR leaders in a single organization used to reduce employee disengagement caused by stress. Using semistructured interviews, data were collected from 12 HR leaders and line managers within a single healthcare organization in eastern Tennessee. Member checking and validations using organization records assured the credibility and reliability of the interpretations and findings. Using the thematic analysis approach, 4 themes emerged, (a) integration of employee engagement practices into culture and business processes, (b) providing managers with the job resources they need to lead staff, (c) being transparent and honest in communications, and (d) relying on supportive supervisor behavior to mitigate employee stress. A mission-driven and values-based organization culture served as the foundation for implementing these individual strategies. These findings could contribute to social change by helping organizations reduce stress in the workplace, improve employee wellbeing, and reduce individuals' risk of morbidity and mortality caused by stress, leading to a reduction in healthcare costs for communities.

Unique Barriers Faced by First-Generation Adult Learners

Williams, Paulette 01 January 2016 (has links)
There has been an increase in the number of first-generation adult learners in higher education institutions. However, literature has revealed limited information on the experiences of first-generation adult learners and their perception of the barriers they face in higher education. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the experiences of 6 first-generation adult learners attending a higher education institution and their perception of the barriers they faced. The theoretical foundations were andragogy theory and social-cognitive career theory. Data were collected using purposeful interviews and data were analyzed using iinterpretative pphenomenological aanalysis. Five detailed patterns were identified: (a) students experienced specific barriers associated with anxiety and fear; (b) students were able to adapt to change and overcome their barriers; (c) students viewed education as a way out of their present situation and welcomed it as a positive influence; (d) students viewed the barriers as normal life challenges; and (e) the availability of supportive services made a difference in the adult learning environment. Findings from this research will contribute to the knowledge and experiences of first-generation adult learners in higher education institutions and the unique barriers they face. In addition to the development of effective programs designed for first-generation adult learners, administrators, staff, and faculty in higher education institutions can use the data generated from this study to improve overall retention/graduation rates for underserved populations in higher education by identifying any obstacles to success and implementing intervention policies.

Icke-kirurgisk behandling vid tandimplantat : allmän litteraturstudie / Non-surgical treatment for dental implants

Appelgren, Emma, Henningsson, Josefin January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe non-surgical treatment options for the diseases mucositis and peri-implantitis found in present literature. The literature review also illustrates the effect of the treatment opptions on soft tissue with mucositis and peri-implantitis surrounding dental implants. The study reviews twelve scientific articles that have been processed from the aim of the study. The result shows six therapy options, Er:YAG laser, air abrasive, ultrasonic device, hand instruments, hand instruments in combination with antibiotics and hand instruments in combination with clorhexidin. The following methods are described according to how they are used and how they affect the soft tissue surrounding dental implants. The therapy options showed some improvements with reduced pocket depth, bleeding on probing (BOP) and gain in clinical attachment level (CAL). Several studies accentuate the importance of good self-care and regular visits for supportive care which have an impact on the survival of the implants and in avoiding progress of disease. All of the therapy options have positive effects but to different extent and it is not concluded how long the positive effect remains in the soft tissue. Samtligametoder ger positiv effekt, men i olika grad.
