The cases of Augusto Thorndike - Malzon Urbina on Canal N in 2014 and Patricia Del Río - Agustín Laje / Nicolás Márquez in RPP in 2017

Ojeda Briceño, Alexandra 09 March 2020 (has links)
This research includes the problematic of the factors that damage the existence of objectivity, or impartiality, in the professional practice of journalism. To illustrate this problem, it has been taken as a reference two specific cases. The first of them, is the television interview made on Canal N by the peruvian journalist, Augusto Thorndike, to the former lawyer of the traders expelled from the market "La Parada", Malzon Urbina, during 2014. A second case is the interview in RPP by the peruvian journalist Patricia Del Río to the argentine writers Agustín Laje and Nicolás Márquez, for the launch of "The black book of the new left" and its allusion to the ideology of gender and feminism, during 2017. / Tesis

Relationship between Forensic Exposure and Forensic Knowledge

Alves, Giovanna M 01 January 2019 (has links)
It has been shown that popular crime television series can have an impact in the behavior and perception of viewers. Forensic evidence, or evidence that is gathered through scientific methods, is often central to the plot of these shows. Exposure to forensic evidence in these shows has impacted the legal system by changing perceptions and opinions towards evidence presented in courtrooms, a consequence termed the CSI effect. A subset of the CSI effect named the Police Chief's Effect refers to the ability of criminals to learn about forensic evidence from these shows. Although understudied, the Police Chief's effect has the potential to increase the difficulty of criminal investigations if criminals are better able to plan their actions and conceal evidence. The intent of this thesis is to explore a relationship between forensic techniques portrayed in television and the forensic knowledge an individual obtains from it. Previous studies have looked at the Police Chief's effect in the context of a non-violent crime, even though most of the television shows highlight crime of a violent nature. The present study evaluates the ability of participants to consider forensic evidence when planning a murder, taking into account their crime show viewing history. The results revealed that the overall number of crime shows, percentage of those episodes and involvement in the shows was not associated with forensic evidence. However, a moderate correlation was found between the number of crime shows watched and forensic evidence in female participants.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Rafael Fonseca de Araújo.pdf: 9767748 bytes, checksum: 9ba35e483f432ff6315a1d92099ab469 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-03-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This thesis presents a Multi-dimensional (MD) analysis (Biber, 1988 et seq.) of a Corpus of American Reality TV Shows (CARTS). Reality television can be described as unscripted television shows with non-professional actors being observed by cameras in preconfigured environments (Kavka, 2012) and despite of being a relatively new TV genre is a cornerstone of contemporary US television programming, since according to some critics it has remade television culture (Murray and Quellette 2004). The major goal of the study was to provide a lexical-grammatical description of the verbal language of Reality TV shows by investigating a corpus of 780 texts taken from 39 popular American Reality TV shows, totaling over 6 million tokens. The specific goals were to compare CARTS against the four dimensions of general English register variation as well as against the five dimensions of American television register variation (Berber Sardinha;; Veirano Pinto, in press). CARTS texts were classified into four main program types (Competition, Documentary, Talent and Professional, and Transformation) and into 13 sub-program types, namely, celebrities, dating, gamedoc, docusoap, hidden cameras, reality sitcoms, business, cooking, fashion, performing, expert guidance, self-improvement and social experimental. The corpus was balanced so that each major category had the same number of texts. CARTS was tagged for part of speech with the Biber Tagger and analyzed by the Bibber Tag Count which calculated the normalized frequencies of the 128 linguistics features considered in the research. The results present the additive MD analysis by showing how reality TV shows are similar or different from others spoken and written English registers (from Biber seminal 1988 study), as well as how the various manifestations of Reality TV compare to television registers on US. Since there is no precedent for studies within Corpus Linguistics dedicated to researching the lexical-grammatical profile of Reality TV Shows in a multidimensional perspective, this research intends to fill this gap / O presente trabalho apresenta uma Análise Multidimensional (BIBER, 1988 et seq.) do Corpus of American Reality TV Shows (CARTS).

Konstrukce genderových rolí v českých televizních publicistických pořadech roku 2012 / Construction of gender role in women /men TV show in the year 2012

Hrabáková, Alexandra January 2014 (has links)
My thesis is focused on construction of gender roles in Czech TV shows of the year 2012. First part of the thesis consists of theoretical background, where the principle of feminine and masculine roles, which are constructed by media too, is presented. The thematic foreign and domestic studies, which are introduced there, show how the experts look at this issue. Other chapters are formed by this view and present the most frequented image of women and men on TV or the media principles. Last sections of the theoretical frame are about consumers' everyday habits of watching TV and about impact, which this programmes could have. Second part of this thesis has metodological character. The objective to decode which gender roles are formed by selected programmes Sama doma, Top Star Magazín, menZONE or Těžká dřina and which signs participate on this constructions are described in this part. The research method is semiotic analysis with description of the narrative, thanks to which the hidden myth is revealed more precisely. The quantitative content analysis is also used in analytic part, however, only in a prototypical form. This probe refers to the other possibilities of further extensions of this thesis. All the results demonstrate that the programmes of current domestic production construct women and...

Consensus narratives on the state of exception in American TV shows

Kim, Young Hoon 06 1900 (has links)
The TV show is a central focus of American life, one that not only reflects but also produces social imaginaries for the American audience that support the way people interact and engage with reality. It is the nation’s most influential storyteller, which dominates the nation’s imagination and understanding of reality. This dissertation explores the political and cultural meanings of four TV shows from the George W. Bush era: The West Wing (1999-2007), Deadwood (2004-06), The Wire (2002-08) and Heroes (2006-10). In examining these TV shows, this dissertation aims to shed light on both the origins of the state of exception, its conduct, its purpose, and the possibility of meaningful critique of or resistance to the state of exception. Chapter I discusses The West Wing, focusing on President Bartlet’s decision-making process regarding the assassination of Abdul Shareef, so as to elucidate the decisive actions of a sovereign figure in a state of exception. Chapter II explores Deadwood’s resurrection of the nineteenth-century mining camp in our twenty-first century, in terms of the capitalist state of exception. In discussing the show’s portrayal of the conflicts among the main characters, this chapter reveals that the same sovereign logic of exception is innate in the expansion of capitalism. Chapter III examines The Wire’s depiction of rebellious petty-sovereigns such as Major Colvin, Detectives McNulty and Freamon. According to The Wire, the claims of equality are deeply urgent in the bleak reality of contemporary America. With their commitment to equality and justice, the petty-sovereigns intervene in the bleak reality in their subversive ways. Chapter IV explores Heroes’s rendering of the main characters’ struggles against a fictional national emergency, the Company’s conspiracy to blow up half of New York City. In this chapter, I argue that Heroes portrays a political subject that attempts to constitute itself outside biopolitical sovereign power—what Hardt and Negri would call the advent of the multitude. While explicating the struggles of the main characters, I argue that its limitation in envisioning a new world underscores how contemporary critics fail to see past sovereign politics when they imagine another world. / English

This research aims to investigate the relationship of people with the TV show The Big Bang Theory and their perception as to whether they consider themselves or are considered nerds. Semantic structuring of video collections fromspeech : segmentation and hyperlinking / Structuration sémantique des collections vidéos à partir du discours : segmentation et création d'hyperliens

Şimon, Anca-Roxana 02 December 2015 (has links)
New challenges emerged in the past years as the audiovisual landscape significantly transformed with the emergence of Internet-based TV. The decision of what to watch and in what order no longer belongs to the TV station but the user. New solutions must be offered to users in order to facilitate precise and quick access to the desired information contained in the ever increasing amounts of audiovisual content: for example, to identify a specific event, a TV show fragment containing a certain public person or addressing a particular topic, or to browse sequentially across all segments of videos addressing this topic. These new and varied features imply the development of innovative methods for structuring and exploiting the audiovisual content, which represent the focus of this thesis. We offer automatic topic structuring techniques of audiovisual data to reveal the internal organization of each program. We also study the implications of the structure produced on various tasks such as creating hyperlinks between videos (to allow navigation between TV show fragments that are thematically related) or creating automatic summaries. All the work is carried out on automatic transcripts of the speech pronounced in TV shows, to achieve generic solutions, not dedicated to a particular kind of show.

Sustainability in Cooking Shows: A qualitative content analysis on framing of sustainability in the cooking show MasterChef Germany and MasterChef US

Mettke, Laura January 2020 (has links)
Many environmental organisations are trying to counter the negative effects of climate change. The film- and television industry are increasingly becoming the focus of attention, because, although it repeatedly advocates sustainability, it often gets lost in its own productions. The presentation of sustainability is often not visible or clearly recognizable by the viewer. Cooking shows are often criticised by the public for being environmentally friendly in terms of food waste. The goal of this research is to determine how sustainability is presented in cooking shows in Germany and the USA. For this purpose, the following research question is asked: How is sustainability framed in the television cooking series MasterChef US and Germany? And is there a difference between those two countries? The theoretical framework is presented by the framing theory of Erving Goffmann (1974), with the use of this approach sustainability was framed in TV shows and used for the analysis and its results. To answer the research question, a qualitative content analysis was carried out, which analyses both the German and the American version of MasterChef in 2018/2019. The research was divided into indirect and direct events. The results of the study show that the German MasterChef included significantly more sustainable topics than the American one. This confirms that there is a significant difference in the cooking shows between the two countries.
