Highlighting the relevance of teachers education toward that objective, the purpose of the research was to indicate possible recommendations for teachers education to get a significant use of those technologies. The aspect to be studied privileged the meanings of the use of new technologies and how the teachers have developed them. In order to recognize such meanings, seen as important references to teachers education, a research was conducted in two schools, involving two groups of teachers. That research aimed to understand how the teachers get along with new technologies, how significant it is to use the computer laboratory for the researched schools, how important the laboratory is for the students education and how education might contemplate the use of new technologies. The data were analyzed through questionnaires and interviews with the teachers, coordinators and principals of both schools. The collected data show that regarding the teachers education and the teachers individual experience, there is a construction of meanings that imply the use of the computer as something esthetic , just to complete the pedagogical process. Although the process does overcome the resistance to the use of that tool, it still does not fully exploit the possibilities of technological resources in order that they can be included in teaching situations to offer real chances of learning / Este trabalho encontra-se baseado no reconhecimento da importância de as Novas tecnologias de Comunicação e Informação, em especial o computador, serem incorporadas na educação escolar.

This research focuses on two schools´ managers where 12 teachers work from one Education course refunded by Parfor. It´s intends to analyse schools manager´s conditions to support them so that they can consolidate declared gains for them in previous researches. For this, analyze official documents on managers and professionals of the school, in the federal and municipal scope and analyze the everyday routine of these professionals. Three main ideas guide this study: school as level meso of analysis, the paper of the actors in the implementation of policy and the school as place of students and teachers education. The research is supported in studies on the reception of politics in the bases of the systems of education, in this case, schools, (BOWE; BALL; GOLD, 1992; BALL, 1994; MAINARDES, 2006; MAINARDES; FERREIRA; TELLO, 2011), in this case, in schools, and on politics of teacher´s formation, especially, the Parfor (BRAZIL, 2009a, 2009b; GATTI, BARRETO, ANDRÉ, 2011; PESSOA, ARAÚJO, 2013). Concerning management´s approach, it call on Canário (2005), Sander (2007), Silva (2007), Dourado (2007), Vieira (2009), Paro (2012), Libâneo (2008), Luck (2009, 2012) and Lima (2011) and concerning school as a formation place, called on Canário (1998; 2005), Nóvoa (1999), Abdalla (2006) and Cunha (2008). It adopts qualitative approach with documentary analysis, schools observation, and interviews. The analysis of the data points to four main categories: policy as text, policy as discourse, pedagogical-formative management and structure and functioning of the school. Results indicate that managers have legal, personal, professional and material conditions to give pedagogical support to the teachers from Parfor education course; They set clear that the attendance vestige of the basic education in the kinder-garden level, still found in the discourses and the legal functional condition of the teachers act as hurdle for the purposes/intention of the analyzed policy. Finally, it reinforce that, despite of other conditions, each school receives and enact one policy according to its managers performance and leadership.

Bastides, Ana Carolina 28 May 2012 (has links)
A partir destas análises, conclui-se que a formação docente, quando eleita como única estratégia, depara-se com limites em produzir mudanças na instituição escolar de modo a promover a elevação da qualidade da educação escolar / The objective of this work was to investigate and analyze expressions from the teachers formation in the constitution and mobilization of teachers knowledge and in which aspects this formation has contributed in the construction of practices that answer present challenges of the basic education in the São Paulo state. The empirical reference was the practice of teachers that attended the Special Formation Program for 1st to 4th Grade Teachers also known as PEC-Municípios (2003-2004) , for its relevance in the scope of new modalities of teachers formation. The research intends to understand the influence of the program in school everyday life and in teachers practice and knowledge, through an ethnographic perspective based on fieldwork, documental analysis and a case study. The ethnographic study involved field observations in a public elementary school in São Paulo City and a study case of a teacher that came from PEC-Municípios. The analysis of this material is based on the theoretical contributions of authors that discuss the teachers formation, schooling processes and daily teachers knowledge in a historic and critic perspective, either on the Education or the Educational Psychology. In this context, its relevant the conception of Ruth Mercado Maldonado about the teachers daily knowledge as a mobilized knowledge in the practice of teachers with their students, relation built through a dialogue between voices that come from different social conditions and historical moments, managed by the teacher, when working with the students. The obtained results point to the importance of the formation programs to answer the demands of the work with students. The articulation between theory and practice promoted by the program stimulated the development of teaching practices based on the analysis of the reality of the children. In the daily work in classroom, favoring the students knowledge construction through the articulation of school knowledge and daily life aspects assumes an important centrality in teachers practice. Thus, the construction of the lessons happens as a collective process, in which the teachers practice is frequently articulated with the students, with its successes, issues, interests and contributions that the children may bring to the classroom. It was identified that the knowledge is appropriated and mobilized through the conversation among present and past educative reforms, the experience with students, the continuing formation and the concrete conditions of teachers work. If on the one hand the state initiative on promoting formation to actual teachers is a fundamental action to improve the quality of the education offered by the public network, in the other hand the results demonstrate that the teachers formation strategy doesnt articulate with the necessary changes on the institutional operation of the school system. From these analyses, the conclusion is that teachers formation, when elected as the only strategy, is limited in order to produce changes in the school as to promote the quality rise in the school education

Lundberg Bouquelon, Petra January 2012 (has links)
This essay can be red as a reflection over three years of working with and developing methods for using art in the process of learning at the teacher education at a swedish university. Even though the subject from where the examples come is the mathematics education, the discussion forms itself at a more general level than this specific subject. In many aspects this essay is more about learning in general than specificly about mathematics. By using the phenomenological method my discussion forms itself moving between my personal experiences and philosophical theory. I use the work and thougts of John Dewey, Hans-‐Georg Gadamer and Aristoteles in close dialogue with swedish scientists who during the last years has given contribution to the actual and the surrounding fields. By writing this essay I hope to enlighten certain aspects of experience based teaching and learning as well as the troubles and wonders of using art learning processes – both hopefully useful in developing the university teaching in the mathematics education as well as in other subjects at the teachers education.

The changing dynamics of teacher learning : an exploration of teacher learning through the lens of assessment.

Maharajh, Shivani. January 2012 (has links)
The National Curriculum Statement advocates a shift in focus with regards to the manner in which assessment and learning are conceptualized (Department of Education, 2002). Consequently, new forms of assessment that are in keeping with the principles of the National Curriculum Statement (Department of Education, 2002), are expected to be implemented within the South African classroom context. Set against this backdrop, the study set out to explore teaching learning through the lens of assessment, by focussing on the content, process and application issues associated with teacher learning. This study attempted to unpack what teachers know about assessment and how they have come to acquire this knowledge. It was envisaged that through an analysis of how teachers learn about assessment, this study would reveal valuable insights about how teachers learn, and in this way, bring to the fore additional meaningful insights about the conditions that lead to effective teacher learning. In striving to achieve the outcomes of the research project, this study focused on the interplay between theory and practice to explore the process of teacher learning and how this learning translates into practice, through exploring how teachers’ knowledge of assessment, influenced their classroom assessment practices. The study was a qualitative one, within a case-study design. The use of semi-structured, iterative interviews, document analysis, and observations, formed the instruments used in the study. The thesis unpacked the journey of learning about the new forms of assessment, among three primary school educators, who formed the participants of the study. The findings of the study allude to the notion that teachers learn in a variety of different ways, and through a plethora of learning experiences, making a simplistic, superficial understanding of teacher learning, inadequate. In addition, the study pointed to teacher learning being shaped by a number of factors, indicating the significant influence that a multitude of factors, both internal and external, have over teacher learning. Further, the challenges and issues associated with teacher learning were brought to the fore. The implications of the study suggest that teacher learning is complex and multi-faceted, making it most necessary to adopt a multi-focus approach to teacher learning. / Thesis (Ph.D.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Edgewood, 2012.

A description of teachers' sense of self-efficacy of the first graduate elementary pre-service teacher cohort at Oregon State University

Bigler, Duane A. 04 May 1993 (has links)
Research studies indicated that teachers' sense of self-efficacy is a multidimensional construct related to teachers' beliefs about teaching, their ability to teach, and their students' ability to learn. This study described the change in a cohort of graduate preservice elementary teachers' sense of efficacy as they progressed through a four quarter Master of Arts in Teaching degree program. Forty-nine subjects were administered the Teacher Efficacy Scale (Gibson and Dembo,1984) at four selected times during their program. Subjects' sense of efficacy was compared to the independent variables of age, years since completion of the baccalaureate degree, scores on the General Knowledge and Communication Skills components of the National Teacher Examination (NTE), and baccalaureate degree major. Data were factor analyzed. The three factor solution selected suggested that factors one and two represented the teacher's sense of personal teaching efficacy. Factor one represented the teacher's responsibility for positive student outcomes. Factor two represented the teacher's confidence in personal skills and abilities. Factor three represented the teacher's sense of general teaching efficacy. Subjects were divided into three groups based on their baccalaureate degree major. Means and standard deviations of efficacy factors discussed in this study were calculated for each of the three baccalaureate major groups at the June, 1991.; August, 1991; November,1991; and June, 1992 administrations. A summary of correlations (p = ≤ 0.05) was presented with data plots including best fitted lines. Multiple regression analyses indicated no significant interactions between age, and years since completion of the subject's baccalaureate degree, but did indicate that in two predictions, age made the most important contribution. Recommendations for further study and program improvement were presented. / Graduation date: 1993

An investigation into the prevalence and use of code switching practices in grade 8 mathematics classrooms in the Ohangwena region of Namibia: a case study

Shilamba, Julia Ndinoshisho January 2013 (has links)
This research report focuses on an investigation of the prevalence and nature of code switching practices in grade 8 mathematics classrooms in the Ohangwena region of Namibia. The existence of code switching in these classrooms was established by administering a survey to all grade 8 teachers in the region, while the nature of these practices was explored by interviewing and observing selected teachers using a case study research methodology. The data from the survey was analysed quantitatively using descriptive statistics, while the qualitative data from the case study which comprised of audio and video transcripts was analysed within the framework of Probyn’s (2006) code switching categories. These categories looked at code switching in terms of: explaining concepts; clarifying statements or questions; emphasising points; making connections with learners’ own contexts and experiences; maintaining the learners’ attention with question tags; classroom management and maintaining discipline; and affective purposes. The study found that code switching is widespread in most of the grade 8 mathematics classrooms in the Ohangwena region. It also revealed that the teachers’ code switching practices aligned well with most of Probyn’s framework. The criterion of maintaining learner’s attention with question tags was however not found in this study. The results of the study showed that teachers code switch because the majority of the learners’ language proficiency is not good. Code switching is mostly used as a strategy to support and promote learners understanding in mathematics. The study recommends that it is high time that code switching is acknowledged as a legitimate practice and recognised as an important and meaningful teaching strategy to assist learners who are learning mathematics in their second language. Code switching needs to be de-stigmatised and teachers should be supported in using this practice effectively and efficiently.
