This thesis seeks to problematize the fairs and exhibitions of professional and technological education as educational-productive spaces that operate both in the scope of the development of knowledges that escape the formal school environment, and which, therefore, are difficult to develop, objectify and formalize in the classrooms and laboratories, and in the context of the formation of working subjectivities, understanding these strategies as a form of governing student-worker behavior, or as a form of governing society. For this problematization, I used as the privileged locus of analysis one of the largest exhibitions of technical works in Latin America, the Mostratec (Mostra Brasileira / Internacional de Ciencia e Tecnologia). In general, I intended to analyze how this show conducts student-worker behaviors, taking the concept of governmentality as the guiding thread of my research, so that it crosses my incursions by the theorizations and the analyzes carried out. In a more detailed way, I have tried to show that the fairs, exhibitions and exhibitions of vocational technical education operate as a privileged locus for the formation of subjectivities of student-workers, a formation that takes place from two processes or treatments of subjectivity - social subjection and machinic servitude - which are complementary, interdependent and contribute to the functioning of school education and neoliberalism itself. It is argued that contemporary displacements in the world of work and production mean that some of the technologies of society governance are revalued and reworked in the new context of vocational technical education, which has performed historically, as a implicated symptom of productive forces development. Considering that the formation of student-worker, linked to new contemporary work needs, increasingly depends on its intangible character, production and the investment itself ever more precocious, is a process where the "product" of learning is inseparable from the act of producing, we can consider that the school-enterprise production approaches a feature virtuosic execution of activities that find their own fulfillment in themselves and which require the presence of a public. To analyze and discuss the fairs, shows and exhibitions of professional and technological education, we seek to show that they operate as neoliberalist strategies of government, both as a state public space that allows student-workers to perform their virtuosity in the presence of other, and as strategies for the development of knowledge that flee the formal school environment. On the other hand, also aimed at the development of individualization and the competitive inequality, as well as blocking and stopping surplus of cognitive processes, movements of cooperation, knowledge and language, since to exist, the capital needs to block the process social capture of value, because these are surplus beyond their ability to command.

Changing diversity, social justice perspective and adult learning - the case of a Technical Vocation and Training (TVET) collegeEmjedi, Salma January 2016 (has links)
Magister Educationis (Adult Learning and Global Change) - MEd(AL) / The National Certificate Vocational (NCV) programme was designed with multiple agendas, among which was to address the high unemployment among the South African youth, to produce students with an employable skills set as well as it being a vehicle for redress. Managing diversity within education speaks to this agenda of redress. This study investigated diversity within a technical vocational education and training (TVET) college, by exploring the teaching and learning challenges Life Orientation college lecturers face when teaching diverse student population. It considered the background to the TVET sector as well as the learning programme, the NCV, that provided the context for the study. Various literature on diversity was reviewed as well as literature on teaching diverse cohort of students. The investigation was approached from a social justice perspective. The data revealed a number of themes, the first of which was Conceptions of Diversity within the TVET college context as well as Lecturer Strategies to cope with student diversity. Not all lecturer strategies were successful in dealing with diversity-related tensions; this led to the theme Issues and Incidents related to Student Diversity. The concluding theme was participant suggestions for Lecturer Preparation to deal with issues of diversity. In turn, these themes informed the recommendations which include all three key elements in the education process, i.e policy and curriculum, lecturer training and development, and equally important, the student involvement in diversity programmes and strategies within the TVET college.

A comparative study on scientific approaches for Center of Excellence in TVET sector under the scientific aspect of the demands in Thai Education SystemOde-sri, Adisorn 20 November 2020 (has links)
This research offers an essential enlightenment for a better understanding towards the significance to establish the Center of Excellence for Technical Vocational Education and Training (CoE for TVET), especially in vocational education. It analyzes and synthesizes the data from the existing academic and commercial sources based on the fact that, in most cases, “excellence” is referred to as a foundation term for competitions. Many entities being recognized as or perceived by target audiences in business conduct as “excellent”, are generally “abstract”. In practice, there are only a few entities actually worthy of a true “excellence” judging by appropriate criteria—having “concrete” evidence of activities and components. Exemplifying an existing Center of Excellence would promote a better understanding both in terms of definition and its characteristics.
The researcher focuses on conducting comparative research that combines with qualitative and case studies, with an important goal of acquiring 'new definition, new knowledge and specialized practical guidelines related to the CoE for TVET', and to invent a set of practices that will lead to answering of these key questions:
• What is 'CoE for TVET'? How many types are they of ? • How is it currently recognized for the 'CoE in TVET' ?
• What approaches should be taken to promote a better understanding of definitions, classification, and operations of “a COE in TVET?”
This is to provide in-depth research that can be beneficial to the public and visualized clearly worldwide. As per the mentioned aims, comparative case studies between different countries are required. There are neither much studies in the world which clearly proposed the definition; the identification and the demonstration of the applied practical guidelines nor in the dimension of excellence of TVET education management because all that exists are the context of excellence in business and nor in education sector that are often referred particularly to the level of Higher Education and that the basic education cannot be applied to TVET because of its being of different context.
In each topic, the researcher clarified points of information including the perception, access, and maintenance of excellence. There shall be further discussion on the classification of all globally existing centers of excellence which is based on perception, presentation, and public understanding in conclusion.
Once the foregoing section has been thoroughly accomplished, the next step is accessing the process and techniques of pursuing elements and characteristics that CoE in TVET at least should have by relying on techniques and principles called “Benchmarking+USP” that the researcher has developed recently based on the understanding that 'Apart from being superior to general standard and quality, that is, - no ordinary - ; having a status of excellence, the center of excellence, no matter operating or providing services in any regards, must have a unique identity and distinctiveness that should be as close as possible to -the top-notch – in that particular area.' To be an example case, the researcher had selected the 'Benching Partner' which is recognized for achieving excellence in service providing and educational management in the field of TVET: GTDEE and TGPES, as the answer of the research items that say:
• How will there be techniques or processes in the pursuit of components, attributes that indicate the status of excellence of TVET CoE?
• Are there any examples of centers of excellence or comparable organizations existing in Thailand? And how do those organizations have the required elements and characteristics of excellence?
The final essence, therefore, is studying and striving for the needs in various dimensions regarding the establishment of the Center of excellence in TVET that is able to response to the demands of society for teaching and learning management of the Thai vocational education sector in the points of view of the sample groups --the direct stakeholders--, thus leading to answering the question in the endmost part of the research, that is:
In what dimension does Thailand need TVET Center of Excellence?
These will be beneficial suggestion to the relevant sectors in Thailand or those wishing to learn, study extensively on the basis of substantial findings delivered by this research.:Tabel of contents

This dissertation aimed to analyze the integration conception proposed in the Technical Course Project of Integrated Intermediate Level in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance IFBA/Salvador. Initially, I made a comparison between the official documents and the legislation on vocational education in effect, in which the integration dimensions are based on the principles of work, science, culture and technology, which enable students to access to the socially produced knowledge and thus, to an emancipating training. The analysis was performed in light of academic work of work and education area, taking as reference, specifically, the fundamentals produced by the authors who discuss vocational education in the Brazilian context, such as: Ciavatta, Frigotto, Kuenzer, Machado, Oliveira, Ramos, and Saviani. The Course Project studied was elaborated pursuant to Decree No. 5.154/2004, which (re) establishes the possibility of curricular integration between high school and vocational education. The approach used in the research was on historic-dialectical nature, because it permitted the analysis of the working and education relationships, talking to the various contexts, historicizing them. The methodological procedure used was the bibliographic and documental research, in which were analyzed the main documents of the Ministry of Education that guided the implementation of integration (Laws, Decrees, Opinions and Legislation), and the Course Project. Also, I performed interviews with professors who participated in the Commission that elaborated the Project. In the first chapter, I discussed the working and education categories and its relationship with vocational education in contemporary Brazil. In the second chapter, I approached the vocational education integration challenge to high school. In the third and final chapter, I presented the results of the analysis of the Technical Course Project of Integrated Intermediate Level in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance IFBA/Salvador including the results of the interviews, finding that the project was elaborated without a consistent ground of what the integration conception is like. The following to-be-faced challenges were identified by IFBA/Salvador: to raise discussions with IFBA community in order to clarify what an integrated course really is like; to develop a plan of collective teaching among teachers in general and specific training; to mobilize students in order to involve them in the integration concrete actions, including interpersonal relationships; to improve the communicational conditions, materials and infrastructure; to establish a conversational relationship with the companies and, especially, develop an integrated technical vocational education to a quality high school in which the student may be subject of his/her history. For this, it is necessary to rethink the Course Project.

Vocational education for children with disabilities in East Africa: UwezoByrne, Jennifer Ellen 14 May 2021 (has links)
Children with disabilities (CWD) in East Africa experience occupational injustice in its most severe forms. A number of complex and dynamic factors contribute to this injustice including cultural beliefs about disability, a significant gap between policy adaptation and policy implementation, and physical barriers as a result of poverty.
Uwezo is the Swahili word for ability, a name suitable for a program created to empower CWD in low-income countries (LIC) and lower-middle income countries (LMIC) to achieve their maximum potential. Uwezo is a community-owned and community-run vocational education program for CWD that will originate in East Africa with the intent to expand globally to serve additional communities in need. Children with disabilities ages 3-16 will learn three categories of classroom and experiential instruction including: education for everyday living, life skills and vocational study. Designed with sustainability as a priority, the program will be presented to community members as a template, intended to be carefully tailored according to the community’s unique priorities and needs. Ultimately, Uwezo has the potential to rapidly shift cultural perception about disability, enhance the local economy, inspire grassroot advocacy efforts, and improve the and quality of life for children and persons with disabilities.

THE PERCEIVED EFFECTIVENESS OF TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TRAINING (TVET) PRACTICES AT AN URBAN TERTIARY INSTITUTION IN PREPARING THEIR STUDENTS FOR THE ADVANCED WORKPLACEHarvey, Howard Anthony January 2019 (has links)
This study will be investigating the perceptions of the implementation and modelling of best practices in technical vocational education and training (TVET) areas of endeavour. Four lecturers from three selected programmes will be investigated see how well they are preparing their students to enter the technically advanced workplace in an urban tertiary TVET institute in Jamaica. It has been reported by employers that graduates’ performance has been unsatisfactory in the sectors which require technically skilled professionals (HEART Trust, 2012). This investigation will incorporate a literature review of the apprenticeship system, and the current occupational training requirements as well consider competency based methods of teaching used in the TVET classroom. This will be in the context of career development theories, and constructivist and social learning theories. A qualitative research design method will be applied, using a case study approach. In addition to data collected from the lecturers, interviews, observation and focus group discussions with three groups of 15 students will also be collected. Additionally, the Director/ Principal of the Vocational Development Training Institute (VDTI) will be interviewed. Finally, a stakeholders’ report based on employee attitudes in various industries will be used to attain their perspectives on the preparedness of the TVET graduates for the workplace. The results and recommendations will be used to evaluate the best practices of the TVET lecturers. / Educational Leadership

Institutional commitments, integration and student persistence in the NCV Safety in Society at a TVET College in the Western CapeJansen, Henry Hermanus January 2020 (has links)
Magister Educationis (Adult Learning and Global Change) - MEd(AL) / Student dropout, certification and retention rate has played a pivotal role for academic institutions globally. There are various factors that affect student persistence which inevitably leads to a student’s failure to graduate. These factors may also result in voluntary withdrawal from institutions which could impact on the status and funding of tertiary institutions. To deal with such critical issues, there is a need to understand the reasons for the decline in student retention and the factors that influence goals and student departure. The aim of the current study was to explore the factors that may or may not contribute to persistence, which eventually has an influence on the retention rate. In the current qualitative study, Tinto’s longitudinal model was comprehensively explored. Therefore, the current study was located within Tinto’s longitudinal model of student departure. The researcher was prompted to explore the factors that influence student goals,
institutional commitments, social and academic integration and persistence. The South African government expected that the role of the TVET colleges would become the cornerstone of the skills development landscape. According to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET, 2013b), it was estimated that the growth in the sector would escalate as follows: the projection of 345 000 students in 2010, 630 000 students in 2013. The total projection for 2030 was that 2.5 million students would be certified (DHET, 2013b). Unfortunately, the 2030 projection has been adversely affected by the poorly performing institution and the high dropout rate. (DHET, 2013b) Therefore, the setting for the research was a Technical Vocational College in Cape Town which offers the National Certificate Vocational NCV. The single institutional study linking academic integration, goal influencers, institutional commitments social and academic integration and persistence was based in a college in Cape Town. Thus the study has an overarching research question and three sub-questions. The college was selected
conveniently and the researcher purposively selected the participants. A total of twenty participants (20) were interviewed after providing assent and consent. The qualitative design utilized in the current study allowed the researcher to identify themes. Therefore, thematic
analysis was employed in the data analysis section. The researcher is currently an insider in this sector. The unique experience and academic background of the researcher has afforded the opportunity to ethically gain access to past results in the TVET, specifically, in a NCV
programme at a Cape Town College.
