The intention with the study is to describe the home and life conditions for boys at the age range between 13 to 18 year, who has been under custody according to the § 2 LVU. The empiric is 21 real court cases, judged in Stockholm and to Stockholm counted surround-ings 2006, in which the range of the boys were representative. A text analyze method is used to execute the study. The study penetrates the life situation of the caregiver and how their situation affects the boy and the boys actions. The total conclusion of the study, based on an ecological evolution perspective, is that life-situation of the caregiver affects the boys and the boys actions. The boys are affected negatively by the situation of their caregivers, and according to the study, the boys have established own problems, like difficulties in school, criminality, or other psychological diagnoses. They are also often exposed to physical or psychological violence by the caregiver. Additionally the conclusion is that the caregiver neglect the boys in many other ways, prior themselves and their needs before the boys.

De Beer, Maria Magdalena 13 May 2008 (has links)
English This study aims to give a historic overview of the contribution of the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir to music in South Africa. Such a study has not yet been undertaken up to date. As background to the historic research, a general overview of choral traditions in South Africa and the mutual influence with the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir is set out in this study. Other aspects explored include the origin and general background of the school, the musical education, choir activities, concerts, repertoire, recordings, past students and conductors. A historic account of the choir forms the greatest part of the study. The methods used to gather information include interviews, personal conversations, direct observation, participatory observation, the collection of information from documents and archive records and the study of cultural artefacts. Because the choir sings a large repertoire from different genres, the musicianship of the choir members and conductors is developed particularly well, especially regarding different performance practices, which is also a practical application of the music curriculum at the school. The number of performances, tours, repertoire and recordings, as well as the high profile contracts that the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir has received since its origin, are clear indications that the choir not only has a significant influence on South African music, but also does exceptionally well internationally. The success of the further music careers of alumni and past conductors supports this statement. The school’s intense education through music means that past students enter the international music world successfully, and in this way carry the school’s influence far beyond the country’s borders. Curricula vitae of alumni of the school, which include Barry Coleman, Jacques Imbrailo, Colin Lee, Mark Nixon, Clint van der Linde and Deon van der Walt, are proof of this. Curricula vitae of conductors that have been involved with the choir school since its origin (in 1967) to 2006, show that the choir not only attracts noted musicians, but also offers them the opportunity to develop their musicianship, which allows them to later play a great role in music in South Africa, often also internationally. This study contributes to the recognition that the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir deserves. It gives performers, students and historians a broad background, and at the same time insight into and appreciation for the choir school. / Thesis (DMus)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Music / unrestricted

The role played by siSwati folktales in building the character of boys : a socio-functionalist approach

Lubambo, Remah Joyce 07 August 2020 (has links)
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 103-107) / This study explored the role played by Siswati folktales in building the character of boys. It included how boys are depicted in folktales and how this depiction influences boys in real life. The study further investigated the correlation between traditional and modern boys and tried to uncover the value of folktales regarding the boys of today. The way boys are portrayed in folktales, their heroism in fighting and conquering monsters, could encourage present-day boys to fight the monsters that they come across daily. Based on the application of the lessons from folktales, the study examined how societal changes affect boys today. / African Languages / M.A. (African Languages)

Adolessente seuns se houding ten opsigte van seksuele losbandigheid : 'n sosio- opvoedkundige perspektief / Adolescent boys’ attitudes towards sexual licentiousness : a socio educational perspective

Nelson, Thalita 09 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans, abstracts in English and Afrikaans / Adolescent behaviour is characterised as a cognitive, social and personality developing phase. Hormones can have a big influence on the cognitive and social developing of an adolescent boy. Adolescent boy’s behaviour can influence their attitudes towards developing of values. Moral values develop during adolescence. Limitations in the developing of cognitive skills in adolescent boys can lead to immoral experimenting. Attitudes of anxiety and a low self confidence can develop. Licentiousness is when a person acts outside the norm of moral values of an environment. Sexual licentiousness is behaviour that is unacceptable in social norms of the environment. Moral values are behaviour that is acceptable in a social environment. An Adolescent with a larcenous lifestyle does not have any moral values. The descriptive research method is used for the problem statement and to enquire into the objectives of the research. The Social Development Theory possesses to the enormous power to elevate and accelerate the expansion and development of human capabilities in any field. Social development organises human energies and activities at higher levels to achieve greater results. Development increases the utilisation of human potential. The question that is being asked is: Which factors influence adolescent boys’ attitudes towards sexual licentiousness and which socio educational situations can decrease the complex problem. The adolescent, however, still experiences problems in making the appropriate decisions in life. Decisions that may have far reaching implications for their future. Morele waardes ontwikkel tydens adolessensie. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Sosio-Opvoedkunde)

Comparisons of Self-Perceptions in Boys With Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and Non-Referred Boys

Walters, Jill Anne, 1965- 12 1900 (has links)
A limited amount of research exists that addresses low self-esteem, poor self-concept, and distorted self-image in children with Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The most urgent task is to test assumptions regarding self-perception and to assess the dimensions of self-concept influenced by this disorder. The Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter, 1985) was used in the present study to assess those dimensions. Participants included 34 boys with ADHD, 27 boys with LD, and 33 boys without any diagnosed psychological or learning problems. Results were analyzed using Pearson's product-moment correlation, analyses of variance (ANOVA), and analyses of covariance (ANCOVA) and did not support the hypotheses.

Gedragsprobleme van seksueel misbruikte seuns in 'n kliniekskool / Joané van Heerden

Van Heerden, Joané January 2014 (has links)
Sexual abuse of children is a complex and sensitive subject that has an influence on children , families and the wider community . In referring to the term sexual abuse it is usually associated with girls. Although there is very little literature available that focus specially on the sexual abuse of boys, it can never be denied. The clinic involved school where the research was conducted is a school for behaviour difficult boys in middle childhood (6-12 years). There are a large number of sexually abused boys or boys who have been exposed to sexual abuse in the concerned school. It is clear that children who have been sexually abused sometimes have a variety of problems including behavioral problems. There is little research available in South Africa that focuses specifically on sexual abuse and behavioral problems. It seems that boys externalize trauma and that lead to behavioral problems. It was therefore necessary to determine the impact of sexual abuse on the boys, to ensure that appropriate services can be delivered to these boys. The purpose of this study was to investigate behavioral problems of sexual abuse of boys in a clinic school by means of a literature study and empirical research. The researcher conducted qualitative and quantitative approach at the same time. For the quantitative approach, the total population of the sexually abused boys in the clinic school was involved in the study and a questionnaire compiled by the researcher was completed. For the qualitative approach, focus group was held with " SBST " ( School Based Support Team ) , teachers and child and youth care workers. There are recommendations made that seek to ensure that proper services can be provided to the sexual abuse of boys in a clinic school, in order to address their problem behavior and rehabilitate them faster. / MSW (Forensic Practice), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
