En exkursionsguide till Uppsala läns kvartärgeologiska landskapsutveckling / Uppsala County’s Quaternary Landscape Development –An Excursion Guide

Strömberg, Linus, Henriksson, Emil, Fremling, Axel January 2021 (has links)
This bachelor’s thesis has been about creating an excursion guide for natural sciences students in theearly stages of their education, as well as for the interested public. The aim has been to give the students a condensed, easy to grasp version of the quaternary landscape development in Uppsala län, Sweden. The thesis is made up of two parts, where the first part introduces the students to quaternary processes and terms necessary to understand the second part, which is the excursion itself. Since the excursion is centered around the geological structures left by the last glaciation, the first part contains information mostly about the glacier's mechanisms and processes, different types of soil and how the structures left by the glacier is recognizable in the field. Featured in part one is also a timeline of the landscape development in Sweden since the last glaciations regression. The second part features 10 localities that show off landforms and geological structures of interest from the quaternary period. Photographs are used to illustrate what parts are important for each locality and infographics have been used to give students easy access to the most crucial knowledge for that specific landform, structure or mechanism. Both parts of this thesis contain maps made in ArcGIS. These maps show off a few different things, like the ice-sheets extent at different points in time, the types of soil in and around each locality aswell as an overview map that shows the localities whereabouts. In addition to the maps, a virtual guide was created in Google Earth suitable for a time with travel restrictions. Because of the nature of this thesis, no results of the traditional kind were arrived at. The result is the excursion guide itself. This project proved to be more difficult than anticipated, the scope of it in particular made it challenging. In order to make a detailed excursion guide, one would need to either be more knowledgeable within the field, have more time or need to restrict the scope of the project.

Prokopcová, Michala January 2021 (has links)
Thesis TITLE: The Psárský forest in the district of Prague - West as a location of school science excursion AUTHOR: Bc. Michala Prokopcová DEPARTMENT: Department of Biology and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Education, Charles University SUPERVISOR: doc. RNDr. Vasilis Teodoridis, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The aim of the thesis is to examine the Psárský forest locality in the Prague-West region as regards its suitability for a school science excursion. The principal objective of the thesis was to prepare and take a comprehensive science excursion to Psárský forest and verify its educational efficiency for pupils of lower secondary school grades by means of pedagogical research. The research was carried out through didactical tests comparing the initial knowledge before the excursion (pretest) and acquired knowledge after the excursion (posttest). The didactical concept of the science excursion to Psárský forest was elaborated in accordance with the key aspects of the field biology didactics and based on complex evaluation of the fields of interest for the excursion planned to become a basis for the excursion contents and selection of suitable places for excursion activities. "The River Duddon" and William Wordsworth's Evolving Poetics of Collection

Stimpson, Shannon Melee 11 December 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Despite its impact in generating a more positive reception toward Wordsworth's work among his contemporaries, The River Duddon volume has received comparatively little critical attention in recent scholarship. On some level, this is unsurprising given the relative unpopularity of Wordsworth's later work among modern readers, but I believe that the relative shortage of critical scholarship on The River Duddon is due, at least in part, to a symptomatic failure to read the volume in its entirety. This essay takes up the challenge of following Wordsworth's directive to read The River Duddon volume as a unified whole. While I cannot account for every inclusion, I set out to explore how the idea of collection functions as the unifying force governing the volume's organizational and thematic structure. I argue that although the individual pieces that make up the collection are distinct from each other in their style, subject matter, and date of composition, together they constitute an exploration of the beauty of Wordsworth's native region and his interest in harmonizing aesthetic principles of variety and unity. When read as parts of a dialogical exchange rather than as self-contained units, the individual texts in The River Duddon collectively present an array of perspectives through which Wordsworth not only celebrates the rich diversity of the Lake District's local customs and landscapes, but also theorize a sophisticated poetics of collection which he hoped would help justify his poetic program and reinforce the literary and cultural weight of his future work.
