Vliv kinesiotapingu na posturální řízení stoje / The effect of kinesiotaping on postural control of stanceHavlová, Michaela January 2015 (has links)
Postural stability is necessary for all human activities. Management od postural control is provided especially by central nervous system. For management are essential afferent information from vestibular, visual and somatosensory system. Modification of any of these inputs could have influence postural stability. Changes of exteroceptive perception can be achieved by the application of kinesio tape. Kinesiotaping is currently very popular therapeutic method, which is attributed to the wide range of effects. In the theoretical part of this thesis are described these effects, including the results of scientific studies that are engaged in verify the effects. Experimental part of this thesis was focused on the objectification of any changes of postural stability after application of kinesio tape on dorsal and ventral side of the trunk in healthy individuals without injury or other disorders. For the examination were used two tests of Balance Master® System, the modified clinical test of sensory interaction on balance and the test limits of stability. The results were satistically evaluated at the level α = 0.05. Due to kinesio tape were observed no siginificant changes in the mean sway velocity of center of gravity. There were also found no significant changes of parameters that evaluate the transmission of...

Corner Culture: Corner Stores in the Black Pearl Neighborhood of New OrleansMcCarthy, Andrea 05 August 2010 (has links)
The corner store represents a significant part of New Orleans' history and neighborhoods. From essential grocery providers to bars and restaurants full of local character, these buildings have held a number of roles in the community. These roles have changed in response to development patterns, market pressures, and land-use regulation. A number of these traditional businesses still exist today as neighborhood cultural institutions throughout the city. Many more, however, have faced conversions to residential buildings, abandonment, or demolition. This case study addresses the significance of the corner store, identifies a number of factors leading to its decline, and suggests that a newly revised Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance in the city of New Orleans should reserve a place for these neighborhood businesses.

A Tale of Two Silos: Collaborative School Facility Planning in Post-Katrina New OrleansMikulak, Lauren 05 August 2010 (has links)
Cities and schools are traditionally planned in separate silos by local governments and school boards. Collaborative school facility planning (CSP) unites these two silos and integrates decision-making by city and school entities. This research addresses the relationship between urban planning and school facility planning in New Orleans, Louisiana, where CSP is particularly important in light of rebuilding efforts since Hurricane Katrina. The researcher examines the extent, challenges, and opportunities for CSP in New Orleans. Based on interviews and recent planning texts, little collaboration existed in the past; but the decommissioning of 52 New Orleans public school facilities presents an unmistakable opportunity for improved CSP in the near future. The broader implications of this thesis suggest that an alternative model for CSP is needed for low-growth, urban communities whose primary concern is not new school construction but old facility closure and reuse.

More Than Artifacts: The Surprising Importance of Census Designated PlacesDhavale, Dawn Maya 20 August 2004 (has links)
CDPs are an overlooked component of the metropolitan region, and add to the understanding of the region as a whole. Large CDPs that remain unincorporated have other forms of governance, either public or private. CDPs are equivalent to incorporated places in many ways, but have distinctive differences based on state and region. Large CDPs have reasons for not incorporating. A subset of these CDPs that are similar to Boomburbs are examined. Implications for planners regarding CDP existence are discussed. / Master of Urban and Regional Planning

The perceptions of and courase evaluation of the MPH degree by former Wits students who graduated in the period 2001-2007Mutloane, Thomas Albert Mothei 25 November 2008 (has links)
Background: In 1998 the Wits Faculty of Health Science began to offer a master’s
programme in public health, through the School of Public Health, called the Master of
Public Health. (MPH). The aim of the degree is to prepare “professionals to play
leadership roles in the management, improvement and evaluation of health and the health
care system” and to respond “to the needs of the people of South Africa and the African
continent in their various living and working conditions”. Eight objectives have been set
for the degree and these will be gone into in detail. Admission requirements to the
programme are a bachelor’s degree of a minimum of four years duration in dentistry,
medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, etc. The programme can be
offered on a full- or part-time basis. The following core modules are offered: Primary
Health Care & Social Context of Health; Health Measurement I & II; Environmental &
Occupational Health; Public Health Law & Health Systems Integration; Health Policy
&Policy Analysis; Health Systems & Decentralization; Health Management Theory &
Practice; Epidemiology; Health Care Financing etc. The primary motivation for this study
was to determine the level of satisfaction of MPH graduates with the degree that they
studied.
Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study design. It was a survey that entailed
using a pretested interview schedule or questionnaire. The study population was all MPH
graduates up until June 2007 (N = 80). The participants were contacted telephonically or
by e-mail by the researcher. The initial idea was to interview the participants
telephonically, but most preferred to have the prepared interview schedule e-mailed to
them. A Pilot Study (using 8 students) was conducted before commencement of the
actual study. The pilot study revealed that the study questionnaire, although long and
cumbersome, was do-able. A sample of 70 graduates was used and of these, 60 responded
i.e. response rate of 86%. The researcher e-mailed the interview schedule and the
information sheet which explained what the study was about and also made it clear that
even if they had initially agreed to participate, they could still opt out if they later
changed their minds. The information sheet further explained that their participation
would be kept strictly anonymous, only codes would be used.
The data gathering sheet (questionnaire) is in two parts: Part One is the “Course
Evaluation” and Part Two is the “Value of the Masters in Public Health to Your Career”.
Under Part One the candidates gave their views on the following: the content of various
courses or modules offered; the teaching methods applied by the School; academic
quality; administrative support; and research report support. Questions in each of these
subsections were such that a rating on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being excellent and 1 poor) had
to be given and next to the score (rating) the candidate could also give a comment to
explain the rating or how they felt about what was asked. At the end of each of the subsections
are a number of open-ended questions that gave the candidate more scope for
further written or verbal input. Similarly, Part Two has a rating on a scale of 1 to 5 (5
being extremely valuable and 1 less valuable) in terms of the value the particular course
or module mentioned in the career of the graduate. There is also a “comment” portion
accompanying every question. And at the end of this part are six open-ended questions
aimed at eliciting more qualitative information based on the experiences of graduates post
graduation and specifically focusing on the working environment. One very important
question in this section is: “Would you or have you recommended this masters
programme to others”. There are only two possible answers to this question: “Yes” –
which signifies satisfaction with the programme, and “No” – which signifies unhappiness
with the programme. It is a very important question in gauging client satisfaction.
Results: On a rating of 1 to 5 (1 being poor whilst 5 is excellent the top rated modules were rated as follows under course evaluation: (i) Primary Health Care & Social Context
of Health: All respondents (60 i.e. 100%) rated this module and gave it a rating of 4.13
(83%) (ii) Health Policy and Policy Analysis: Although 40 (67%) out of 60 people
responded to this question, they gave it a rating of 4.25 (85%) (iii) Project Management
for Public Health Practitioners: It was given a 4.27 (85%) rating by 44 (73%) out of 60
participants. (iv) Management in Health and Health Services: This module was given a
rating of 3.83 (77%) by 58 (97%) out of 60 participants and (v) Introduction to
Management in Theory and Practice: It was rated at 3.82 (76%) by 32 (53%) of the 60
participants. The same top-rated above modules were rated as follows under “Value of
the Masters in Public Health (MPH) to your career” i.e. Part II of the questionnaire. (i)Primary Health Care & Social Context of Health: 3.26 (65%) as rated by 46 (77%) out 60
participants. (ii) Health Policy and Policy Analysis: 3.96 (79%) by 46 (77%) respondents
out of 60. (iii) Project Management for Public Health Practitioners: 3.26 (65%) as rated
by 46 (77%) out 60 participants. (iv) Management in Health and Health Services: 3.96
(79%) by 54 (90%) out of 60 participants.
Discussion: Various laudable written comments made by participants about each
module have been captured and recorded. These will be seen later. (i) Primary Health
Care & Social Context of Health: This module received a very high from all the
participants of the research study. The concepts of Primary Health Care and Social
Context of Health have clearly been taught and grasped. (ii) Health Policy and Policy
Analysis: This was the track that most graduates followed. It helped graduates understand
and be able to analyse various policy issues in their respective organizations. Emphasis
has not only been laid on policy formulation but also on policy implementation. (iii)
Project Management for Public Health Practitioners: This module scored a very high
rating under course evaluation. There is a perception that some public health services
could be run as projects in an endeavour to increase efficiency. (iv) Management in
Health and Health Services: A number of the students who come from the public health
sector to do MPH are in management positions already, although they may not have a
formal management qualification. Those who are not in management positions are
preparing themselves to go into management positions in future. This module is of great
assistance in preparing them for careers in management.
The study has revealed that 98% of participants have stated that they would or have
recommended the Wits MPH to others. And 80% of the participants have also stated that
there has been a positive change in their careers since acquiring the MPH qualification.

The Self: Towards A Method for Queering Death : An Identity TestamentBerkert Wallard, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
“The Self: Towards A Method for Queering death” is an identity testament, a speculative method for designing the space of your own funeral before you die. It is a format to create a fair memorial of a person’s identity that does not feel welcome or fits in the current formats of burial ceremonies we have in Sweden today, usually connected to Christianity or other religious traditions. Even the secular burial traditions of Sweden today have a very clear traditional format and aesthetic that can be intimidating to a lot of members of society. “The Self” is also a method to relegate the power of narrative to whom it belongs. “The Self “is executed through this thesis, a sacred document, a spatial installation and a film, showing a possible scenario of a burial ceremony as a result of the method of the identity testament. This thesis demonstrates and problematizes the secular burial traditions in Sweden and how the common rituals are still based on the norms of Christianity, heteronormativity and traditional values, and why this is oppressing a lot of individuals in society. It does so by using a speculative method of an identity testament, which gives every human the right to own the narrative about their persona and who they were to the afterlife. It also problematizes the hierarchies and norms in society of what “family” means, and how consanguinity is valued by state and law. The term “queer” or “queering” is used in multiple ways, both as an adjective (being queer, a queer community, a queer sexual identity) but also as a verb or an adverb, as in the method used by the Queer Death Studies Network. The content of this thesis consists of texts, pictures, research in form of written sources and interviews, queer theory, descriptive design methods and descriptions of a sculptural exploration and spatial installation as well as a motion picture. The thesis asks and answers questions such as: How could a new type of burial ceremony - based on our secular beliefs in contemporary Sweden – look, feel and be arranged to be more connected to what we can relate as religion today? Is it possible to create an organized system to collect information about a person´s identity to be used as a formal ground to create a fair burial ceremony after the person’s death? The analysis focuses upon speculative ideas about what could happen if every person had a right to state a will for their intangible possessions and assets as well as their physical ones. The thesis also goes through multiple examples of cases of queer deaths where there have been strong needs to arrange an alternative funeral to feel safe and comfortable. Finally, the thesis reflects upon how this method could be used and if it really could be applied to society, and if so, who would be able to use it?

Planejamento urbano nos tempos do SERFHAU: o processo de construção e implementação do plano diretor de desenvolvimento integrado de Franca / Urban planning in the times of SERFHAU: the process of elaboration and implementation of the master plan of integrated development - PDDI of FrancaFerreira, Mauro 27 August 2007 (has links)
This work reconstructs the elaboration and implementation process of the master plan of Franca since the years of 1960s, starting from the proposals and practices developed at the Municipal City Hall, standing out works influenced by IBAM in 1963 for an administrative reform and of a private advisory company, GPI - Integrated Planning Group, starting from 1967, to the elaboration of the Master Plan of Integrated Development - PDDI. We developed the work starting from two main points of analysis: the first refers to the elaboration of the PDDI by the company GPI, and the second to the elaboration and introduction process of the plan. The developed analyses take into consideration the critics shown in the literature about the planning of the years 60 and 70. In relation to the GPI, we unmasked its constitutional process as an advisory company in the field of the urban planning, associating companies in the area of public administration, physical- territorial planning and economical analyses, and the composition of its team that gathered technicians of high qualification, most of them linked to the opposition to the military regiment. We showed that GI, when gathering militants of the left, allowed a survival strategy to the political pursued. As for the process of elaboration and implantation of the PDDI, we revealed that it was developed from 1967 to 1996. The plan used the methodology adopted by the Federal Service of Housing and Urbanization - SERFHAU, which privileged a diagnosis of the urban problems and rationality in the elaboration of the plan. Although the effects on the urban space of these plans have been criticized a lot by its scarce effectiveness, shown by a significant number of papers, starting from interviews, of researches in local newspapers, a survey of legislations and documents elaborated by the GPI, we verified the accomplishment of significant fragments of the physical interventions and works contained in the studies and in the proposals of the master plan, as well as indications referring to the administrative reform of the City Hall. The impact of the restructuring and of the implemented actions cannot be considered despicable, (like the creation of the industrial district). We still verified the diagnosis, far away from being unreal; it took into account the local urban conditions. The plan established a set of commitments of the municipal government and of its industrial elites for the expansion and the control of the urban space; the idea of the \"technocratic modernization\", spread for sections of the military regiment and the methodology of the master plan of the period of the SERFHAU, the space organization rationality of the productive process imposed the organization of the industrial space and of the city. What was intended in the master plan, as a general infrastructure of the city (a conception of rational city for the capitalist accumulation) in relation to the road and traffic system, to the places for the installation of industry and trade, it was what the industrial shoe capital needed for its accumulation and expansion, what motivated its defense and application for the local dominant sections, guaranteeing administrative continuity and the consolidation of a planning structure in the city hall.

Mestres e heróis: mitohermenêutica da formação da identidade de professores / Masters and heroes: identity teacher´s training mitohermenêutica.Giraldes, Antonio Roberto 30 March 2011 (has links)
The crisis in today\'s teaching is engendered in both low wages and poor educational infrastructure, as in the teacher\'s own identity charge, which is facing great difficulties in finding their place not only inside the classroom but in society itself. One way of reconstructing this identity lies in the rescue of their status as professor, in the reunion of their essence. The complex mythic master / hero / apprentice can be made present in the path of images of this teacher, since the primary processes archetypal to the idiosyncrasies of individuals, because the professional way often practices our memory bringing the origins of our profession and our ontology. The aim of this study was to establish a discussion on the ways in which this path is embedded in the daily images of the teacher, since the recovery of this memory is a big step for the reconstruction of an identity almost lost. To this end, we collected the life histories of three teachers from Preparatory Course, since the life stories are an amalgam of production for this encounter with a distant past. What was observed was how these narratives, from the practice in the classroom, this legendary professional knowledge is updated and revived by the teachers during their lessons, their comments, their confrontations on the problems of the profession, at least, the way perceive themselves and their professional identity.
