The purpose of this thesis is to outline different ways of utilising our two chosen literary works for kids and teenagers in czech language and literature classes taking place during later years of primary education. Each of the works presents a child hero in a difficult life situation caused mainly by a bully, where the hero eventually overcomes the situation but expends all his energy in the process. The thesis consists of two units - theoretical and practical. The theoretical unit sums up expert findings on difficult life situations in general and applies them during analysis of our heroes and bullies. The practical unit has been divided into two parts, each covering one of the chosen works. First, we analyse the work's didactic potential, then suggest its utilisation in class and finally reflect on our practical demonstrations. We have also included an additional chapter to the practical unit, describing further ways of utilising one of the works in classes, not only czech language and literature but others as well. Output of this thesis is formed by two commented worksheets and an efficiency evaluation of our suggested class preparations, based on the actual demonstrations. In this diploma thesis I deal with the concept of a new socialist man in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1956 on the example of Emil Zátopek. The aim was to analyze the form of the new socialist man on the example of selected fiction, newspaper articles, visual, audio and archival material, taking into account the person of Emil Zátopek. The research was conducted using methods of discursive analysis. I approached the concept of the new socialist man as a social construct. Research has shown that the image of the new socialist man was dynamic and was misused by communist ideologues to create images of ideal citizens and emphasize the negative qualities of external and internal enemies. Exceptional personalities, such as Emil Zátopek, were shown by period propaganda as ideal citizens who were a harbinger of a new world. Zátopek's period image consists of two forms that intertwined with each other. Their combination enabled the communist propagandists to present Zátopek as a new socialist man, yet an ordinary citizen. The diploma thesis is divided into three chapters, which refer to each other. The chapters were conceived according to the image of Zátopek in contemporary propaganda.

The subject of this thesis is introduction of interpersonal relationships theme to pre-school age children. The aims of this work are: a) To introduce books with interpersonal relationships themes intended for pre-school age children. b) To ascertain if and in what way is this theme used in pre-school setting and where the pre-school educators take inspiration from when choosing quality literature for children. c) To propose, realise and reflect on activities (connected to chosen books with interpersonal relationships themes introduced through a child hero) which develop the key competencies of pre-school children related to reading. The practical part was built on data collection through online questionnaire for teachers; the aim was to ascertain whether interpersonal relationships topics are used in practice when working with books in pre-school setting and where the educators find inspiration when searching for this type of literature intended for pre-school children. This study has conducted an analysis of how the monomyth has appeared in the fantasy story Diamond sword wooden sword part 1 and 2 by Nick Perumov. The study has confirmed that the story structure of the monomyth can be detected within several different characters progression. The study does not claim that all of the different stages within the monomyth can be identified within one single characters, but rather that there are several different characters that reinvents the world and the community. Speculations about why the authors story structure follows a ”divided” version of the hero’s journey are presented. The study also conducts an analysis of Perumovs construction of the society, male characters and female characters, which showed no distinct division in the construction of the two genders within the story. The construction of the society is discussed in light of the authors national upbringing, in this case the former Soviet Union, and briefly how the conflict in the world of Melin could be inspired by the Bolshevik revolution in Russia.

This thesis Gender in compulsory reading - Old Greek Myths and Legends: Gender analysis of the writing deals with literary representation of gender issues in mentioned writing, written by Eduard Petiška. The very analysis is based on analysing of gender topics and issues we are interested in and focused on. These topics are compared and showed using examples from particular myths and legend. The question whether these topics are influenced by patriarchal order in the society is the crucial for this thesis. Despite the variability of Petiška's writing, which is necessarily caused by variations of ancient and continuously construated stories; some patterns and systems are there to be found and explored by contemporary gender theories, mostly by feministic literature criticism. In this thesis the method of resisting reading according to Judith Fetterley is used. The deconstruction of the text and its hidden values which are based on male domination and the reconstruction of it in order to show the new perspective at the same moment are the main goals of resisting reading. The problem with which this investigation is concerned is that of the warrior-hero ideal as it evolves in Shakespeare's English and Roman plays, and its ultimate failure as a standard for exemplary conduct. What this study demonstrates is that the ideal of kingship that is developed in the English histories, especially in the Second Tetralogy, and which reaches its zenith in Henry V, is quite literally overturned in three Roman plays--Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. The method of determining this difference is a detailed analysis of these groups of plays. This analysis utilizes the body of Shakespearean criticism in order to note the almost total silence on what this study shows to be Shakespeare's growing disillusionment with the hero-king ideal and his final portrait of this ideal as a failure. It is the main conclusion of this study that in certain plays, and most particularly in the Roman plays, Shakespeare demonstrates a consciousness of something more valuable than political expediency and political legality. Indeed, the tragedy of these political heroes lies precisely in their allegiance to the standard of conduct of the soldier-king. Brutus, Antony, and Coriolanus, among others, suffer defeat in their striving to capture a higher reality. This investigation demonstrates that the concept of honor has lost its value in the social matrix of political machinations.

Dans Le Père Goriot de Balzac (1835) et Bel-Ami de Maupassant (1885), romans d’éducation réalistes, certains personnages féminins jouent un rôle d’adjuvants auprès du héros en l’aidant dans son ascension sociale. Si les héros exercent un pouvoir sur leurs adjuvants féminins afin de parvenir à leurs fins, ces derniers sont également puissants à la fois avec les héros et au sein de leur milieu social. L’hypothèse de départ de cette étude est que la nature des relations entre les héros et les adjuvants féminins a une influence sur le partage des pouvoirs entre les sexes. En utilisant des approches sociocritique et historique, cette étude montre que dans les deux romans, les adjuvants féminins possèdent des capitaux à la fois économique, social, culturel et symbolique qui leur permettent d’aider les héros dans leur quête. Les adjuvants féminins peuvent être placés dans deux catégories : les « femmes-mentor » et les « femmes-escalier » . Les relations entre les héros et les adjuvants féminins sont caractérisées d’une part par le renversement des pouvoirs dans les deux romans et par la violence dans Bel-Ami. Tandis que dans le roman de Balzac, la dynamique des pouvoirs entre Eugène de Rastignac et ses adjuvants féminins demeure la même tout au long du récit, celle entre Georges Duroy et ceux-ci varie au cours du roman de Maupassant. Bien que les adjuvants féminins retirent des bénéfices de leur pouvoir sur le héros, leur capital économique est limité. De plus, dans Bel-Ami, si certains adjuvants restent puissants à la fin des romans, d’autres connaissent un destin tragique et s’épuisent en aidant le héros. / In Le Père Goriot by Balzac (1835) and Bel-Ami by Maupassant (1885), two realist coming-of-age novels, female characters play the role of adjuvants with respect to the protagonist, assisting in his social ascension. While these male characters exert power on their female adjuvants in order to achieve their objectives, the latter also hold their own in the relationship as well as within their social environment. The hypothesis of this study is that the nature of the relationships between the heroes and the female adjuvants in these works bears a significant influence on the negotiation of power dynamics between the sexes. By using socio-critical and historical approaches, this study shows that in both novels, female adjuvants possess economic, social, cultural and symbolic capitals that enable them to help the heroes in their quest. Female adjuvants in this context may be placed in two categories : the « woman-mentor » and the « woman-stepping stone » . The relationships between heroes and female adjuvants are characterized here on one hand as being the vehicle of shifting power dynamics in both novels, but also of violence in the case of Bel-Ami. Whereas in Balzac’s novel the dynamics of power between Eugène de Rastignac and his female adjuvants stay the same throughout the whole story, those between Georges Duroy and his own vary in the course of Maupassant’s novel. Although these adjuvants benefit from their vantage with respect to the heroes, their economic capital is limited. Furthermore, in Bel-Ami, while some tend to remain powerful at the end of the novels, others meet a tragic destiny and exhaust themselves, specifically by helping the hero.
