Interesse pÃblico em mÃdias legislativas: um estudo da produÃÃo noticiosa da AgÃncia CÃmara NotÃcias / Public interest in legislative media: a study of news production by the House of Representativesâ News Agency

Leidyanne Viana Nogueira 05 May 2017 (has links)
This research aims to evaluate the public interest present in the news production of the House of Representativesâ News Agency. The Editorial Handbook of the Communications Department of the Brazilian House of Representatives points out the public interest as the main criterion of newsworthiness of its vehicles. The focus on the public interest is the main argument in the defense that these legislative media carry out public communication. It represents, therefore, a crucial element in the justification of the very existence of such vehicles before society and its credibility, both as a source for the press, but mainly as a means of information for the citizen. It is also known that journalism itself is considered a space of public interest, although this perspective is often adopted as a discourse rather than an effective practice. Despite the ambiguity surrounding the nature of the vehicle we analyze, between institutional or public communication, but considering the editorial proposal of the Communication of the House of Representatives, we use as theoretical basis the studies of the public interest in Journalism. Given the complexity of the proposed objective, as a consequence of the indeterminacy around the concept of public interest, we proceeded to an empirical analysis in three stages, which represent different levels or dimensions of achievement of the public interest, applied in a corpus of 211 news produced by House of Representativesâ News Agency. In the first stage, we separate the topics by subject and look for aspects related to the public interest: Relevance/significance, Notoriety, Impact, Transparency, Consequences and Principles/values (SILVA, 2002; WOLF, 1999; MOREIRA, 2006; CHAPARRO, 2012). In the second, we seek to visualize the public interest in the type of fact reported, according to the classification of Gomis (1991, 2002) in Results (events that present fait accompli), Explosions (unexpected events with drastic consequences), Displacements (steps or phases of an event) and Apparitions (events characterized by oral manifestation); Finally, we try to understand the public interest in the way the content is developed, evaluating the plurality of sources and the equilibrium (ROTHBERG, 2011; SERRANO, 2011). Another resource adopted was the realization of interviews with some professionals of the Agency, in order to better understand its production process. After the analysis, we reach the following conclusions: the Agencyâs material has attributes of public interest, but it is necessary to analyze other dimensions to verify compliance with this criterion; Any kind of fact may present a public interest, but the Displacements and Appearances are more important than Results and Explosions when considering the specificity of the Agency; The plurality is quite limited or even non-existent in the Agency because the news is centered on parliamentary voices or brings voices of the society only in cases of its participation in the activities of the House of Representatives. In this way, we can say that there is a potential of public interest in the House of Representativesâ News Agency, especially for the attributes linked to its central theme. However, the prevalence of institutional criteria on values of journalism or public communication itself prevents this potential from being higher.

Volby ředitelů veřejnoprávních médií pohledem vybraných deníků a zpravodajských serverů / Elections of directors of public service media from perspectiveof selected newspapers and news websites

Zemanová, Veronika January 2018 (has links)
The Masterˈs thesis deals with an answer of public service media and a way of their representation in selected newspapers and news websites. Due to the importance of public service media as a guarantee of the balanced and neutral news and because of their specifics to commercial media, this thesis focuses on the way the other media write about them, on the example of the last elections of directors of public service media. The first part explains the specifics of public service media, their progression, the actual position and problems. Further it concerns concrete, czech public service media and there searched phenomenon, i. e. the election of director of public service media too. The second part is my own research. I researched the way of representation of the election of director of Czech Radio in the year 2016 and the elections of directors of Czech Television and Czech News Agency in the year 2017 in the journals Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo and on the news websites IHNED.cz, iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz. The method of research was qualitative content analysis due to keep an open access to the found informations. I didnˈt want to limit the possible survey by previously defined categories, but I let them resulted from the analysis. The process of election was described very factual...

Zpravodajství České tiskové kanceláře z Latinské Ameriky / The news of Czech news agency from Latin America

Kovácsová, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis The news of Czech News Agency from Latin America is to document the form of the Czech News Agency's text news from Latin America, to reveal whether the agency fulfills its obligation to inform about events abroad according to Act No. 517/92 Coll., and also to expand the very limited number of studies related to this topic. This work deals with news agencies and takes into consideration the CTK as a public institution and outlines the characteristics of Latin America and its relations with our country. Using quantitative content analysis, I find out how much space CTK spends on the countries of the North, Central and South America, which countries are re-informing and which countries virtually ignore in its news. I examine what priority messages are usually assigned and which areas of public life are concerned. Last but not least, I compare the monitored reality from the first half of 2016 to the first half of 2006 to reveal how much informing about Latin America has changed over the course of a decade. At thesis I provide a detailed analysis of Czech News Agency's production from Latin American countries, which no one has ever dealt with in the Czech environment so far, and present the results of my analysis in the tables and charts.

The news agency of the future : A qualitative study on how the future news agency can be developed based on Sweden’s Media investigation and interviews

Hornborg, Emmely January 2017 (has links)
The news agency of the future is a qualitative study of the current situation and future of the printed newspaper. The material in the study is based on interviews and a content analysis of Sweden’s Media investigation. The questions that this study answers is how the future looks like the printed newspaper and who will write our news. Today, the situation is challenging for the media groups that have printed papers. The printed newspapers subscribers are mainly aged 45-79 years. The informants of this study consider the paper magazine's future to be pessimistic. It is difficult to make the product attractive when the price rises for each year and the living habits change. Media groups are currently working on digital transformation. At the same time, there is a high demand for qualitative journalism. In times when anyone has the opportunity to practice journalistic work, readers want to be able to trust qualitative journalism. By offering it at great prices and flexible subscriptions, both in paper and digital options, the informants believe readers want to subscribe to news even in the future.

Sociological Translations at Inter Press Service (IPS)

Cherchari, Elena 20 December 2021 (has links)
This interdisciplinary project investigates the extents and limits of alternative news translation in the era of globalization and virtualization and is guided by the insights drawn from actor-network theory, material semiotics, ethnomethodology, anthropology, news sociology, and the philosophy of translation. It visually represents the semiotic, sociological and material components of news translation as well as describes the patterned and concerted actions of human and non-human actors that go into making news stories in the context of IPS, a global news agency. A contribution is made to both theoretical knowledge and the development of the conceptual research method, which is given scarce attention in translation studies as compared to prevailing empirical research. A meta-semiotic concept of sociological translation that I formulate helps bridge the gap between tackling ‘translation’ in terms ofJakobson’s triadic classification as either an intralingual, interlingual or intersemiotic phenomenon, and the recurrent metaphorical usage of ‘translation’ in the humanities, social sciences and beyond. The concept is informed by the networked ontology of actor-network theory and embodies the idea that meanings and translation are created by means of social interactions rather than by language alone. It is suggested that sociological translation stands for any linguistic, material-semiotic transformations and social articulations, which are all enmeshed with IPS journalistic and interlingual translation practices. On the other hand, in view of the absence of methodological tools for studying nonlanguage-based translation in translation studies, I have assembled my own methodology drawing on the traditions of the wider humanities and the social sciences. My case study adopts Law’s ideas on method assemblage and Latour’s elaborations on infra-reflexivity which are well-suited for conveying the serendipity and messiness of ‘real-life’ research. It incorporates traditional ethnography, virtual ethnography and digital methods. Visualizing a network of sociological translations at different junctures as well outlining a holistic map of the concept allows one to observe the practices of journalist-editor-translators from both micro- and macro-perspectives. Finally, the studied phenomenon reflects modern conditions of life: non-stopping globalization and virtualization and is transdisciplinary in nature. Delineating and comparing the articulations of sociological translation in a wider connected and virtual context illuminates the concept’s mechanisms and contributes to the scholarly awareness of the complexity of news translation in a digital age. In conclusion, the thesis offers a new conceptual space within TS—translational sociology—which would strike up a conversation between TS and other disciplines in the social sciences with the goal of cross-fertilization of knowledge and finding better-informed interdisciplinary solutions to the shared problems including their linguistic, discursive and cultural aspects.

Využívání umělé inteligence ke generování zpráv v České tiskové kanceláři / Utilization of Artificial Intelligence to Generate Reports in the Czech News Agency

Sýkora, Tomáš January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the use of artificial intelligence tools and automated journalism in the Czech News Agency. Specifically, it deals with the very first use of algorithmically generated news reports, which the agency published during the election in 2018. It compares municipal and Senate elections from this year with the outputs of ČTK news from municipal elections in 2014 and Senate elections in 2016. It uses qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The diploma thesis also deals with the method how the generation of reports in 2018 worked in ČTK and shows and explains examples of source codes by which the report generator was programmed. It will also offer other ways and areas in which the Czech News Agency uses or is about to use automated journalism and its tools. One part of the thesis is also an interview with the technical director of ČTK Jan Kodera, who explained how automated journalism works in the Czech media environment of the press agency. The author also outlines some scientific disciplines related to artificial intelligence, which are required for the needs of this thesis. At the same time, he will also offer a number of examples of how automation tools are used in other newsrooms around the world.

Syrian Kurds amid Violence : Depictions of Mass Violence against Syrian Kurdistan in Kurdish Media, 2014–2019

Ibrahim, Abdulilah January 2021 (has links)
This thesis investigates depictions in the Kurdish media (Rudaw and Firat News Agency (ANF)) of mass violence perpetrated against Kurdish civilians in northern and northeastern Syria – an area known to Kurds as Rojava – in recent years. Articles from two media organizations were subject to mixed-method text analysis (quantitative and qualitative) to uncover how mass violence was portrayed. The theory of framing in the media is used to show how violence is committed and what role ideology plays in this process. It is subsequently used in order to uncover commonly used frames for the roles played by various actors involved in mass violence. Hence, a comparison is made between the contents of the two media institutions. The results primarily relate to the role of ideology in the coverage of mass violence by the selected Kurdish media outlets, which are affiliated with two major Kurdish political parties, one left-leaning and one right-leaning. Findings revealed different aspects of mass violence, governed principally by nationalist and partisan orientations. Nationalist agendas played a significant role in Rudaw’s content and a smaller one in ANF’s. Partisan agendas had roughly the same magnitude in both, and the two outlets clashed politically but met nationalistically in many areas. The research questions were addressed through a content analysis of tens of stories disseminated by both Kurdish media organizations during the same time-space.
