A construção do passado do Cariri cearense, a partir da produção historiográfica de J. de Figueiredo Filho (1904-1973), é o objeto de investigação desta dissertação. Nascido na cidade do Crato, filho de um farmacêutico que fora referência na cidade, Figueiredo Filho seguiu a carreira do pai, cultivando o desejo de ver melhorias em sua terra. Imbuído do desejo de dar à sua terra natal um lugar digno perante as narrativas produzidas sobre o passado nacional, juntou-se a outros intelectuais da região e fundou o Instituto Cultural do Cariri (ICC). Com o objetivo de realizar a defesa intransigente da região sul do Ceará, esses sujeitos realizaram diversas ações para horar o passado regional: solenidades, construção de calendários cívicos, panteão de heróis, fundação de um museu. Associando-se a diversas agremiações intelectuais, como a Academia Cearense de Letras (ACL), o Instituto do Ceará (IC), a Associação Nacional dos Professores Universitários de História (Anpuh), Figueiredo Filho foi construindo sua imagem de intelectual comprometido com a causa regional e legitimando sua vasta produção sobre o Cariri. Do romance ao folclore, passando por autobiografia, estudos econômicos e a própria escrita da história, seu projeto girava em torno do espaço em que nasceu e viveu boa parte de sua vida. Nesse sentido, este trabalho procura compreender de que forma a historiografia de Figueiredo Filho construiu um passado para o Cariri. As fontes utilizadas foram a revista Itaytera, as publicações da ACL, do IC e da Anpuh, e o principal foco de análise foram os escritos de história produzidos por Figueiredo Filho, ou seja, História do Cariri (4 volumes) e Cidade do Crato. / The research subject of this thesis is the construction of the past of the Cariri region of Ceará from J. Figueiredo Filho’s historiographical production (1904-1973). Born in Crato, in the state of Ceará, son of a pharmacist well known in the city, Figueiredo Filho followed his father’s career, fostering the desire of seeing improvements in his land. Imbued by the desire of giving his fatherland its righteous place before the narratives produced about the national past, he joined other intellectuals from the region and founded the Instituto Cultural do Cariri (ICC). Aiming to achieve the uncompromising defence of the southern region of Ceará, these subjects performed several actions to honour the regional past: solemnities, the elaboration of civic calendars, a Heroes Pantheon, and the foundation of a museum. Partnering with several intellectual bodies, like the Academia Cearense de Letras (ACL), the Instituto do Ceará (IC), and the Associação Nacional dos Professores Universitários de História (Anpuh), Figueiredo Filho has built up his image as an intellectual committed with the regional cause and legitimising his own works on the Cariri region. From novel to folklore, to autobiography, to economic studies and his own writing of history, his project revolved around the space in which he was born and lived for the most part of his life. In this sense, this work aims to comprehend how Figueiredo Filho’s historiography built a past for Cariri. The historical sources used were the periodical Itaytera and the publications of the following institutions: ACL, IC and Anpuh, and the main focus of analysis was the history writings produced by Figueiredo Filho, that is to say, História do Cariri (4 volumes) and Cidade do Crato.

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo retratar os quadros representacionais da população de uma cidade do interior do estado de São Paulo, Santo Antonio de Posse. Principalmente com relação às representações das transformações em seus modos de vida e do espaço da cidade. Para tal, um ponto de inflexão na história local é central. A chegada do \"estranho\", do desconhecido. A partir do contato com a alteridade, todo um novo conjunto de associações entre passado e presente é acionado, tanto para propósitos das leituras das transformações a que me referi, como também enquanto estratégia discursiva articulada à consolidação de identidades. Dentro desse percurso, mostrarei como é dispensado um papel central ao recém-chegado, o novo habitante. Ele é o depositário de toda a responsabilidade pelas mudanças ocorridas, o que dá cabo de um imaginário depreciativo em torno de sua figura, cuja decorrência é uma cultura do medo em relação ao mesmo. Elementos que causam toda uma reformulação a respeito do viver na cidade, bem como a definição do presente em contraposição a um passado comunitário. Elementos que serão buscados nas representações do imaginário local que, de alguma forma, está lidando e problematizando as transformações por que passa a localidade. / The present work had for objective to portray the representations of the population of a city of the interior of the state of São Paulo, Santo Antonio de Posse. Mainly regarding the representations of the transformations in their life manners and of the space of the city. For such, an inflection point in the local history is central. The \"stranger\'s\", alterity arrival. Starting from the contact with the alterity, an entire new group of associations between past and present is worked, so much for purposes of the readings of the transformations the one that referred, as well as while articulate discursive strategy to the consolidation of identities. Inside of that course, I will show how a central paper is released the newcomer, the new inhabitant. He is the receiver of all the responsibility for the happened changes, what gives cable of an imaginary one depreciative around his person, whose consequence is a culture of the fear in relation to the same. Elements that cause an entire reformulation regarding living in the city, as well as the definition of the present in opposition to a community past. Elements that will be looked for in the representations of the imaginary place that, in some way, it is working and problematizing the transformations why raisin the place.

Limited research is available about how lexical and phonological verb properties interact with past tense production by children. Frequency of the inflected form and phonotactic probability might serve as input-driven alternatives to previously-studied factors such as lexical aspect and coda composition. Archival elicited production data from 4-9 year old children with typical language (N = 24) and specific language impairment (N=14) using 108 two-clause complex sentences/85 different verbs were analyzed for past tense use, coda composition, telicity, phonotactic probability (Vitevitch & Luce, 2004), and lexical frequency (CHILDES; MacWhinney, 2000). Several regression models were considered, including one with only categorical factors (e.g. obstruent/continuant ending), one with only continuous factors (e.g. average biphone probability), one with only phonological factors, one with only lexical factors, and several mixed models. Diagnostic status and verb regularity accounted for the majority of the variance. The combination of lexical frequency of the inflected form with residuals of stem lexical frequency was the best lexical model. Place and manner information for the final consonant of the stem comprised the best phonological model. These two models combined into a final overall predictive model.

The debate about how to frame health messages to maximize their effectiveness is ongoing. Research supports the use of both positive and negative frames under different conditions. This project was developed to further clarify the circumstances under which a negative frame may be harmful, or even backfire. In Study 1 it was proposed that past drinking behavior would moderate the relationship between message frame and behavioral intention to drink alcohol in the future such that people with a heavy drinking past would react to a negatively framed message by increasing their intention to consume alcohol. A total of 212 students participated in the study where they completed a questionnaire to provide information on some of the key variables, such as drinking history, and then were asked to read mock health materials with either a positive or negative frame. They concluded the study by responding to a final questionnaire where they provided feedback on the health materials and indicated their intentions to drink in the future. Results of this study supported the hypothesis. The goals of Study 2 were to replicate the findings of Study 1 and to test the hypothesis that self-esteem would be a second-order moderator of this effect such that people with a heavy drinking past and high self-esteem would be most likely to respond to a negatively framed message by increasing their intention to drink alcohol in the future. A total of 490 students participated in the study, which followed the same procedure as the first study. Results of Study 2 failed to replicate the findings from Study 1, and indicated that self-esteem did influence the relationship between past behavior, message frame and behavioral intention but not in the proposed direction. The marginally-significant effect found in Study 2 suggested that heavy drinkers with high self-esteem were actually more likely to decrease their intentions to drink alcohol after reading a negatively framed message. Because of the inconsistency in the results of the two studies presented, proposed directions for future research are discussed.

Modern context-aware applications no longer justify their decisions based only on their own information but on the decisions and information of other applications in a similar context.  Acquiring context information of other entities in an distributed system is difficult task when using the current content centric solutions such as DHTs.  This project aims to build a distributed index that provides storage for the so called Presentities solely based on the state of their context information.  Furthermore, the stored Presentities must be efficiently accessible even if only some information of their current context is available. To fulfill these requirements the PAST DHT was extended to support range queries and modified to use points on a space-filling curve as index values. The simulation of the system has shown very good accuracy rates, on average 99%, for range queries by maintaining a logarithmic relationship to the amount of required messages sent in the DHT.  Problems have emerged from the lack of load balancing implemented into the used DHT, but it is still the case that the proposed method of using space-filling curves to build a context centric decentralized index is both sufficient and effective. This thesis analyzes the direction of time problem in the framework of philosophy of science. The radiation arrow, Newtonian arrow, thermodynamic arrow and quantum mechanical arrow have been studied in detail. The importance of the structure of space-time concerning direction of time is emphasized.

Behind ¡§e-mail¡§, ¡§BBS¡¨, ¡§Instant Messenger¡¨, weblog is regarded as the fourth kind of ¡§killer application¡¨ of the Internet. Therefore, ¡§weblog usage behavior¡¨ becomes a popular issue to study in not only industry but also academia. However, there is still not a complete framework to explain the motivation of blog usage and the influence factors. This research extends the ¡¥Attitudinal Belief Structure¡¦ of ¡¥Theory of Planned Behavior¡¦ and discusses which personal values among social value, utilitarian value, hedonic value and psychological value are the main motivations to use blog. In addition, we look into ¡¥past use¡¦, ¡¥attachment styles¡¦, ¡¥information recipients¡¦ and ¡¥blog type¡¦ deeply to find out which influence factors moderate the research model. This study used survey method to collect data from the Internet users and use PLS to analyze it. The result found the social value and psychological value are significant motivations among four personal values, and the influence of hedonic value is comparatively week. Then, the influence of personal value on blog usage intention is generally weaker among heavier users than among lighter users. Otherwise, psychological value influence people with preoccupied attachment style less. However, when the information recipients of blog trend to intimate friends, psychological value becomes more important. Finally, as types of blog are different, the influence of user¡¦s psychological value on future usage intention will be different. In sum, we extend the ¡¥Attitudinal Belief Structure¡¦ and renew it with social psychological theories to build a complete model. The research model can offer future study a framework to refer, and give weblog .com several marketing suggestions.
