The analysis of companies applying knowledge management systems through theory of Structuration and a case study of the industrial PC industry

Lee, Kuo-chung 14 September 2006 (has links)
Knowledge management becomes the hot topic of business circles in recent years, more and more enterprises become interested in knowledge management, a lot of scholars are engaged in relevant research one after another too. With the fast development of information science and technology, the administrative system of knowledge is the most important part in knowledge management by enterprises, but some enterprises have found gradually , though information science and technology can help enterprises to do a good job of knowledge management , but really leading knowledge management is the members who participates in, these members include high-order executive , technical staff and user. Leadership , culture , evaluation and technology and technology that four major keys to knowledge management succeed, but because task or have different type attitude emerge at the mission on because organization of enterprise should different, for instance the stratum type organizes, flat organization , radiating type organization and matrix type organize etc., organize each unit their have two or more upper strata management units appear perhaps in matrix type especially, so but more general stratum type complicatedness that comes will come efficiently in the treatment of some tasks on the operation of organizing. So quite a lot of modern enterprises all adopt this organization method , research this mainly with view and is it is it probe into with course theory one matrix type organize enterprise during the process of channeling into knowledge management about step time organize to come to complement, Structuration of theory, times of culture and different leader classify with science and technology or other as literary composition surface that consult is it pursue difference of effect to have in leader , culture , assessment, the difficulty met and gains, do it for other reference while channeling into the management activity of knowledge in initial stage of enterprise which is similar to institutional framework . Try to complement from the view of the Structuration theory with the process theory by way of case study in this research This research adopts the law of case study and goes on, select a domestic industrial computer company listed to do for the target further investigating it, adopt a single case to design in studying the design, but carry on the collection of the materials through the interview way of the depth with the matrix type organization difference organizing, in the course of studying, three undertaking groups count 13 colleagues in researcher's interview case company altogether, duplicate the interview content to analyze for the draft word for word , understand why need information management in the case company in depth after interview? The annotation explanatory note of information management? Pursue the system of information management? Pursue the culture of information management? Pursue the present situation of personnel of information management? Pursue the science and technology and tool used of information management? Pursue the type of information management attitude? Set up those knowledge management activity? (take , take and socialize by outside inside), pursue change and result of information management? (the procedure , science and technology and structure); And use the structure of composing a piece of writing and offering now to carry on the difference analysis between different undertaking group of case company, will regard running as and will be similar to the research that enterprises pursue information management to consult relevantly in the future . This study found that the communication between managers and users is the necessarily sustained work. The communication process will influence on managers and users¡¦ cognition about KMS. This cognition will again influence on their communication behavior. Therefore, the key success factor of implementing KMS has relations with their common consensuses about the system implementation. Companies should realize the gap between managers and users¡¦ need by means of sustained communication to find the best way to develop KMS. Then, users¡¦ participation in the system implementation can increase the opportunities for managers and users¡¦ interaction. During the interaction process, they dominate the system development, and then the structure of their power will change. Therefore, the key success factor of implementing KMS has relations with their power structure. Companies should realize the structure of managers and users¡¦ power and give users more power to dominate the resource of KMS under managers¡¦ appropriate control. Besides, managers have to reveal their support by practical actions for convincing users to participate in the system implementation and then try to form a culture which is suited to the KMS implementation to sanction their behavior. Therefore, the key success factor of implementing KMS has relations with whether managers can form a culture which is suited to the KMS implementation. Companies should establish proper rules to have managers and users contribute or share knowledge during the routine work and form a culture which is suited to the KMS implementation to sanction their behavior.

Bobsin, Débora January 2012 (has links)
This research aims to understand the structuration process of organizational virtual social networks, which are opportunities for collaboration, interaction and sharing of knowledge, ideas and projects. The networks were studied based on the Theory of Structuration, Giddens (2009), highlighting the duality of structure and reflections on the action context (time and space dimensions). This research is a case study performed in a Higher Education Institution, and the analysis units were three organizational virtual social networks, called ‘Forums’. The organization is geographically distributed in 10 campi located in different cities, and the networks have the role to integrate the actors and enable the sharing of experience, assisting in the process of the identity construction of the areas and the University. The Forums aimed to discuss and deliberate on issues related to undergraduate courses at different levels of knowledge. They were characterized by different areas of knowledge and allowed the spontaneous participation of the actors at any time. The investigation was carried out through participant observation, interviews and document analysis. The results show that networks are formed as the groups determine their work objectives, which lead to the definition of a work schedule, resources, roles and structures. Each network has a coordinator responsible for being the mediator and the instigator of the interactions that occur in person and virtually. The virtual tools are determined by the actors based on the activities to be developed, and they may include communication or instrumental technologies such as collaborative text editors. We listed the elements constituent of organizational virtual social network, which are not steady and may change as they change their Forum purposes of action. Therefore, it is clear that at each meeting, when some new goals and tasks are determined, or in the insertion of new members, the network reconfigures itself, reproducing other features, changing its composition, and bringing out new structures, roles and rules, which are defined by the community. The results show that the network is a participative space of integration and identity construction of courses, areas of knowledge and the University. The network is meaningful if the actors identify elements that serve as a link between them and justify the collective work. The network makes the actors more reflective and is a reflection about the University and the teaching practice, developing the interactions by the logic of the debate. Participants use their knowledge and experiences to strengthen the speeches. The norms guide and justify the actions of actors. The network gives access to higher levels of the organization as well as to material, financial, informational, and knowledge resources. Therefore, the network is an environment of articulation and legitimation of decisions and organizational norms, giving substantiality to the organization. Networks are consolidated from the routinization of practices, forming structures and the establishment of a shared identity that serves as an aggregating element to the group.

Indonesian public school principals' enactment of agency within the boundaries set by social systems

Asikin-Garmager, Asih 01 May 2017 (has links)
Background: Indonesian schools are in the midst of implementing a new reform initiative, the 2013 Curriculum, mandated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. The new curriculum requires a drastic change in instructional practices from the traditionally teacher-centered to student-centered instruction. As school leaders, principals play an important role in the implementation and enactment of the 2013 Curriculum in schools. This research explores the leadership practices of Indonesian school principals in facilitating the implementation of new reform policies and initiatives. Purpose: The study served two purposes. The first was to examine Indonesian public school principals’ enactment of agency within the boundaries set by the social systems around them as they implemented the 2013 Curriculum. The second purpose was to develop a framework that can be used as a lens to further study school leadership practices in the context of Indonesia. Two research questions guided this study: (1) What leadership practices are shaped by which social systems and values? and (2) How does principal agency manifest when implementing the 2013 Curriculum? Responses to the research questions were used to develop the framework. Data Collection and Analysis: A case study for theory development approach to qualitative research was used. The study took place in the northern area of a small island located in east Indonesia. The primary source of data came from multiple interviews with three public elementary school principals whose schools served as pilot schools for the 2013 Curriculum. In addition to principal interviews, interview with teachers, documents, and observation field notes served as data sources. The data collected were analyzed and manually coded following the data analysis procedures of grounded theory. In the first coding cycle, I coded the data by assigning descriptive and InVivo codes summarizing topics. The second coding cycle involved assigning concepts and categories based on the open codes from the first cycle with a focus on the principals’ actions in facilitating the implementation process. In the third cycle, I compared the concepts and categories to respond to the research questions and examined the relationships between the concepts and categories to develop the framework from the ground up. Findings: The data analyzed indicated there are three major systems shaped the principals’ leadership practices during the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum: the educational system, the local culture and community, and the school system. In addition to the three systems, the principals’ personal and professional values served to guide the way they led their schools in alignment with the goals of the 2013 Curriculum. The systems and values provided them with rules and resources on which the principals drew in deciding specific actions to perform in order to meet the written and unwritten expectations of their stakeholders. The principals’ enactment of agency was primarily in the form of complying with government orders and balancing expectations from multiple systems, which, then, led to the discovery of three leadership categories in the implementation process: (1) compliance, (2) negotiation, and (3) independence. Compliance refers to those practices the principals perform to satisfy government expectations. Negotiation refers to practices the principals perform in their efforts to juggle expectations and pressures coming from multiple systems. Independence refers to practices the principals perform as they respond to government policies and regulations, as well as community expectations, in a way that is aligned with their personal and professional values.

Figueiredo, Carla Taciane 19 December 2011 (has links)
The theoretical and conceptual maturity, the debate between environmental sciences and late modernity, through discussion of issues relating to the reproduction of socioeconomic disparities en environmental transformations. Thus, this research seeks to answer: The implementation of the National Park of Serra de Itabaiana, as the embodiment of preservation initiative, has contributed to the overcoming of social inequalities in villages Rio das Pedras, World, Gandu I, Gandu II, Lake of the Ovens I and II, the city Itabaiana of Chico Gomes, Areia Branca. What are the economic strategies used by potters and pottery found in the vicinity of Parnassus, to enable their activities? What is the responsiveness of pottery and ceramics to legal requirements arising from implementation of the park? So the objective is to: 1) characterize the economic strategies and capacity of pottery and ceramics of these villages to fulfill legal requirements arising from implementation of Parnassus, 2) identify the possible use of funds from the pottery and ceramics by Parnassus, 3) analyze transformations experienced by these units of production as a result of actions of sustainable development and its possible role in rebuilding social inequalities. To answer the questions and achieve the proposed objectives, we will use the concepts of modernity, environmental conflict and criticism of the notion of sustainable development. This explains the theoretical interconnectivity between different areas of knowledge, predominantly complexity, global and interdisciplinary nature of environmental problems. The investigation of processes of modernization, based on structuration theory, the idea is hypothesized that the creation of Parnassus is configured in the act of entering the region in late modernity in favor of the holders of power, personified in the potters. The methodological approach for the execution of the research is based on qualitative research associated with the ethnographic method. Instruments such as field research, semi-structured interviews with audio recording, document research, were the tools of data collection. The investigation relied on interviews with the owners of the pottery and ceramics and researchers involved in the implementation of Parnassus. Analysis of the interviews was operationalized through the dismemberment of the text, examining the complex variables and phenomena relating to the theory of the structure and concepts of modernity, based on the thematic oral history. Os findings affirm the invisibility of social actors in the institutionalization of the park, This context creates the prerequisite for social and environmental conflicts. The environmental problems that region falls within the overall context of modernity partially excluding the potteries of some modern institutional dimensions.

Realismo e redes: dilemas metodológicos na obra de Anthony Giddens / Realism and networks: methodological dilemmas in the work of Anthony Giddens

Fábio Rodrigues Ribeiro da Silva 10 August 2010 (has links)
This work raises methodological and epistemological questions regarding Anthony Giddens theory of structuration, issues that have been acknowledged and debated by several of his critics. Following clues found in Giddens own texts, it analyses more deeply some works by Mary Hesse and Roy Bhaskar, searching for elements that would help with a methodological reconstruction of Giddens theory. Finally, it argues for greater attention towards Hesses network model, as a much more fruitful tool for analyzing Giddens than Bhaskars critical realism, in order to attempt to solve the dilemmas that Giddens faces. Also included are translations of several articles written by Giddens most important critics, and two papers by Giddens himself, previously unavailable in Portuguese.

Kairy, Dahlia 02 1900 (has links)
Telerehabilitation, like other telehealth applications, has been increasingly used to provide health services. The goal of this thesis is to enrich the field of telerehabilitation evaluation such that it can better contribute to informed decision making of those involved in telerehabilitation at different levels. The first article is a systematic review of telerehabilitation studies and it was conducted in order to provide a critical synthesis of the current telerehabilitation literature. The revue included 28 studies of telerehabilitation, which, overall, confirmed the efficacy of telerehabilitation when used with a variety of clienteles in different settings. Some of the studies also suggest that there may be some cost benefits associated with telerehabilitation although the findings remain preliminary. Such a synthesis of the literature can contribute to some decisions regarding the pertinence of introducing telerehabilitation. However, decision makers also need information regarding the clinical and organizational changes that are associated with telerehabilitation when implemented in a clinical setting. The next two articles contain the results of a single case study that was centered on a telerehabilitation clinical project implemented in the eastern part of the province of Quebec, in Canada. A conceptual model was developed to guide this study, and it was based on Giddens’ Theory of Structuration and on models of technology structuration, in particular drawing upon the notion of the interaction between structure, agent and technology. Data was collected from several sources (focus groups, interviews, official documents and observation of recordings) and was analyzed using a qualitative analysis approach. The second article in this thesis examined the relationship between structure, agent and organizational culture with respect to telerehabilitation use. The results indicate that differences in organizational culture between the centres are more visible when telerehabilitation is used, which can in some cases lead to conflicts, while in other cases create opportunities for change. In addition, organizational culture also played a role in shared beliefs linked to the technology. Lastly, the results suggest that telerehabilitation could be used to bring about changes in organizational culture. The third article examined how telerehabilitation became integrated into existing clinical practices, how it contributed to the development of new routines and explored the sustainability of telerehabilitation. The results indicate that some activities, namely interdisciplinary care plans were integrated into clinical routines, while consultations and patient follow-up were not. Several factors related to the structure and agent were found to facilitate or hinder the integration of telerehabilitation into routine practices, including shared beliefs, the visibility of telerehabilitation activities, the clinical and organizational leadership, the availability of resources and the existence of collaborations. Sustainability was also observed when telerehabilitation use became more generalized and novel applications were developed, although this was only found to occur for activities which had integrated into routine practice. The results therefore suggest that when telerehabilitation is not integrated into routine practices, it will not be used, but that, on the other hand, telerehabilitation may be sustainable for activities which are repeated and then integrated into routine day-to-day clinical activities. Together, these studies put forth findings which can be useful when implementing new telerehabilitation programs. They also help elucidate directions for future research in order to enrich the field of telerehabilitation evaluation so that it may become more pertinent and comprehensive to support decision-makers involved at all levels of telerehabilitation.

This paper studies the social innovation features and their likely analogies towards the Enlightened Christmas Event held annually in Gramado having as its main reference Anthony Gidden’s Theory of Structuration. Society goes through severe social stress and each time more it causes the weakening of the economical and social advancements of the individuals, which are not solved by organizations, whether they are public or private. Despite the government good will to provide the improvement and well being, there is still a very big gap, for the public policies promoted can’t manage to reach all the problems of inequality. In this context, there comes the social innovation which contemplates the cooperation and inclusion of the agents involved, which creates attitude, new actions and lasting principles before the whole. The social innovation attributes to society a non-mercantile nature, a collective character, and an intention which transforms social relations. It emerges as a tool of alternative change to implement solutions through permanent actions. It begins to matter in the world social context aiming to aggregate non-factile community interests, inserts new efficient systems, tries to solve or softens management issues and the basic needs of agents involved. Social innovation presents itself as a manifestation of the individual, who supposedly wishes the transformation through policies with the focus on inclusion of people in a territorial basis. The concept of social innovation features with focus on organization, on the individual and on the territoriality. The data gathered in the interviews suggest that the economical, cultural and social factors, favor the development of the county according to the logic of the Theory of Structuration. The Enlightened Christmas Event is presented in this study, as a way of finding positive impact solutions through the self sustainability providing improvement in the quality of life.
