Resinátové pasty / Resinate pastes

The work is dedicated to the production of a thick film with resinate paste on a ceramic substrate based on a proposal test motive. It introduced the optimization of the workflow leading to the successful realization of the layer. Using an electron microscope, it is performed evaluation of the quality of resultant layer and analysis of the composition of the paste. In the last part of the work it is carried out measurements of temperature and electrical properties of resinate paste.

Lifetime Measurements of Excited States in the Semi-Magic Nucleus 94Ru

Lifetimes of highly excited states in the semi-magic (N=50) nucleus 94Ru were deduced from an analysis of the Doppler broadened transition line shapes. Excited states in 94Ru were populated in the 58Ni(40Ca, 4p)94Ru∗ fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex situated in Caen, France. Doppler Shift Attenuation Method (DSAM) lifetime analysis was performed on the Doppler broadened peaks in energy spectra from γ-rays emitted while the residual nuclei were slowing down in a thick 6 mg/cm2 metallic 58Ni target. In total eight excited-state lifetimes in the angular momentum range I = (13 − 20)ħ have been measured, five of which were determined for the first time. The deduced corresponding B(M1) and B(E2) reduced transition strengths are discussed within the framework of large-scale shell model calculations. / Livstider för exciterade tillstånd i den semimagiska (N = 50) atomkärnan 94Ru har uppmätts från en analys av Doppler-breddade övergångslinjer. Doctoral thesis deals with the deposition of special thixotropic materials for microelectronic technology. The aim of the work is the development of the new method optimizing the dosing process in order to achieve a print resolution of better than 100 microns. The work includes the development of a special dispensing head (UZD) using the influence of ultrasonic energy. These results demonstrate the possibility of a newly developed method that is able to print thixotropic materials with a resolution of 65 microns. Compared to other methods achieves these results with the commonly used materials for thick film technology with particle size up to 5 microns.

Optimal geometric configuration of a cross bore in high pressure vessels.

(Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology), Vaal University of Technology. / The purpose of this study was to develop analytical and numerical solutions to be used in the design of thick walled high pressure vessels for optimal location of a cross bore. In addition, the effects of internally applied combined thermo-mechanical loading on Stress Concentration Factor (SCF) on these vessels, was also evaluated. An analytical solution, to predict principal stresses on radial circular cross bore, was developed. The developed analytical solution was verified using finite element analysis methods. An optimisation process, using finite element analysis, was further done to determine the optimal combination of the major cross bore geometry that affect stress concentration. The cross bore geometries that were studied included the size, shape, location, obliquity and thickness ratio. The geometrically optimised cross bore was then subjected to combined thermo-mechanical loading to determine the resulting stress concentration effects. A total of 169 finite element part models were created and analysed. Seven thick walled cylinders having either circular or elliptical shaped cross bore positioned at radial, offset or and inclined were investigated. The analytical solution developed correctly predicted all the radial stresses at the intersection of the cross bore and main bore. However, out of 35 studied models, this analytical solution predicted the magnitude of hoop stresses in 9 models and that of axial stresses in 15 models correctly. The lowest SCF given by the radial circular cross bore was 2.84. Whereas, the SCF due to offsetting of the same cross bore size reduced to 2.31. Radial elliptical shaped cross bore gave the overall lowest SCF at 1.73. In contrast, offsetting of the same elliptical shaped cross bore resulted in tremendous increase in SCF magnitude exceeding 1.971. Additionally, the magnitudes of SCF were observed to increase whenever the circular offset cross bores were inclined along the RZ axis of the cylinder. The hoop stress due to internally applied combined thermo-mechanical loading increased gradually with increase in temperature until it reached a maximum value after which it began to fall sharply. In contrast, the corresponding SCF reduced gradually with increase in temperature until it reached a uniform steady state. After which, any further increase in temperature had insignificant change in stress concentration factor. The optimal SCF magnitude due to combined thermo-mechanical loading was 1.43. This SCF magnitude was slightly lower than that due to the pressure load acting alone.

A Plastic-Based Thick-Film Li-Ion Microbattery for Autonomous Microsensors

This dissertation describes the development of a high-power, plastic-based, thick-film lithium-ion microbattery for use in a hybrid micropower system for autonomous microsensors. A composite porous electrode structure and a liquid state electrolyte were implemented in the microbatteries to achieve the high power capability and energy density. The use of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was found to significantly reduce the measured resistance of the cathodes that use LiAl0.14Mn1.86O4 as active materials, increase active material accessibility, and improve the cycling and power performance without the need of compression. Optimized uncompressed macro cathodes were capable of delivering power densities greater than 50 mW/cm2, adequate to meet the peak power needs of the targeted microsystems. The anodes used mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB) with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and had significantly better power performance than the cathodes. The thick-film microbattery was successfully fabricated using techniques compatible with microelectronic fabrication processes. A Cyclic Olefin Copolymer (COC)-film was used as both the substrate and primary sealing materials, and patterned metal foils were used as the current collectors. A liquid-state electrolyte and Celgard separator films were used in the microbatteries. These microbatteries had electrode areas of c.a. 2 mm x 2 mm, and nominal capacities of 0.025-0.04 mAh/cell (0.63-1.0 mAh/cm2, corresponding to an energy density of ~6.3-10.1 J/cm2). These COC-based batteries were able to deliver constant currents up to 20 mA/cm2 (100% depth of discharge, corresponding to a power density of 56 mW/cm2 at 2.8 V) and pulse currents up to 40 mA/cm2 (corresponding to a power density of 110 mW/cm2). The high power capability, small size, and high energy density of these batteries should make them suitable for the hybrid micropower systems; and the flexible plastic substrate is also likely to afford some unique integration possibilities for autonomous microsystems. The mechanism by which the SWNTs improved the rate performance of composite cathodes was studied both experimentally and theoretically. It was concluded that the use of SWNT improved cathode performance by improving the electronic contacts to active material particles, which consequently improved the accessibility of these particles and improved the rate capability of the composite cathodes.

Optically Thick Clumps – Not the Solution to the Wolf-Rayet Wind Momentum Problem?

The hot star wind momentum problem eta = M-upsiloninfinity/(L/c) much greater than 1 is revisited, and it is shown that the conventional belief, that it can be solved by a combination of clumping of the wind and multiple scattering of photons, is not self-consistent for optically thick clumps. Clumping does reduce the mass loss rate. M, and hence the momentum supply, required to generate a specified radio emission measure epsilon, while multiple scattering increases the delivery of momentum from a specified stellar luminosity L. However, in the case of thick clumps, when combined the two effects act in opposition rather than in unison since clumping reduces multiple scattering. From basic geometric considerations, it is shown that this reduction in momentum delivery by clumping more than offsets the reduction in momentum required, for a specified epsilon. Thus the ratio of momentum deliverable to momentum required is maximal for a smooth wind and the momentum problem remains for the thick clump case. In the case of thin clumps, all of the benefit of clumping in reducing lies in eta reducing. M for a given epsilon so that extremely small filling factors f approximate to 10(-4) are needed. It is also shown that clumping affects the inference of M from radio epsilon not only by changing the emission measure per unit mass but also by changing the radio optical depth unity radius R-rad, and hence the observed wind volume, at radio wavelengths. In fact, for free-free opacity proportional to n(2), contrary to intuition, R-rad increases with increasing clumpiness.
