An Analysis of the Impacts and Non-Attainment Risks of the Revised Sulfur Dioxide National Ambient Air Quality Standard on the Toledo Core Based Statistical Area Using the American Meteorological Society-Environmental Protection Agency Regulatory Model

January 2011 (has links)
abstract: The Toledo Core Based Statistical Area (CBSA) presents an interesting case study for the new sulfur dioxide (SO2) one hour standard. Since no SO2 monitor within 75 miles to estimate the attainment status of the area, American Meteorological Society/Environmental Protection Agency Regulatory Model (AERMOD) was used in this study to predict potential problems associated with the newly revised standard. The Toledo CBSA is home to two oil refineries, a glass making industry, several coal fired lime kilns, and a sulfuric acid regeneration plant, The CBSA 3 has coal fired power plants within a 30 mile radius of its center. Additionally, Toledo is a major Great Lakes shipping port visited by both lake and ocean going vessels. As a transportation hub, the area is also traversed by several rail lines which feed four rail switching yards. Impacts of older generation freighters, or "steamers", utilizing high sulfur "Bunker C" fuel oil in the area is also an issue. With the unique challenges presented by an SO2 one hour standard, this study attempted to estimate potential problem areas in advance of any monitoring data being gathered. Based on the publicly available data as inputs, it appears that a significant risk of non-attainment may exist in the Toledo CBSA. However, future on-the-books controls and currently proposed regulatory actions appear to drive the risk below significance by 2015. Any designation as non-attainment should be self-correcting and without need for controls other than those used in these models. The outcomes of this screening study are intended for use as a basis for assessments for other mid-sized, industrial areas without SO2 monitors. The results may also be utilized by industries and planning groups within the Toledo CBSA to address potential issues in advance of monitoring system deployment to lower the risk of attaining long term or perpetual non-attainment status. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S.

Nilsson, Amanda January 2018 (has links)

This work investigates if anaerobic digestors represents a sollution to increasing pollution of water resources by pigs wastes in Toledo (PR)'s region. By means of a bibliographical revision and a field research envolving agriculture technicians this study tries to stablish which is the most acceptable model of biodigestor to supply pigs farms' necessities on that region. As a part of a project to install biodigestors in Toledo (PR)'s region, a "chinese" model of biodigestor was chosen, which is capable to produce 4,20 m3 of biogas per day, fullfiling daily necessities of a family of four. This biodigestor presented a final construction price relatevely low ¾ near R$ 1.408,17 ¾, showing to be the most indicate to small and meddium pig farms. Field research showed that the most part of interviewed professionals considers lack of information as the mean difficult for pig farmers to built biodigestors in their farms. The research concluded that biodigestors are adequated tools to decrease pollution by pig wastes and represents an addition of value to pig farms. This addiction of value will be possible only if biogas and biofertilizer was totally used by the farmers. This work ends recommending new researchs about this matter and the development of a most significant exchange of informations between universities, pig farmers associations and officials organisms of environment preservation.

Království Vizigótů: Podmínky a aspekty získání královské moci / Kingdom of the Visigoths: Terms and Aspects of Takeover of the Royal Power

Mestek, Oto January 2021 (has links)
Gothic tribes settled on the lower Danube and on the northern shore of the Black Sea entered in the year 376 the territory of the Roman Empire. This was followed by fierce fighting and migration of the Goths, who passed through the Balkans and Italy and reached Aquitaine in 413, where they settled temporarily. Here, originally various Gothic groups were formed into the one tribe gens, which we now call Visigoths. The pressure of the Franks from the north forced the Visigoths to leave Aquitaine at the beginning of the 6th century and move on to the Iberian Peninsula. Here the Visigoths established their own Kingdom of Toledo. Because the Visigoths at the time of their formation were not a homogeneous group, but rather a lose conglomerate of various barbarian groups and military units, they had no tradition of appointing their rulers. For this reason, they created the mechanism of the royal elections. Vallia was the first elected king in 415. During Visigothic history, a sequence of elected kings was disrupted several times by attempts of some kings to enforce a hereditary monarchy. This led in 633 to the enactment of the royal elections at the 4th Council of Toledo. Other ecclesiastical councils further improved the principles of election. The work will focus on the development of the Visigothic...
