Peru has undergone significant economic growth, but inequality between different groups still exists. In order to improve the training of professionals in Peruvian regions, the Master’s Program in Community Psychology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú has developed different training programs in Cusco, Ayacucho and Huancavelica. These are excluded regions affected by social violence due to past conflict. This article describes and analyzes the characteristics and the impact of training programs on participants and the population. Furthermore, this article reflects on how to develop vocational training to foster and recreate knowledge in a way that avoids reproducing relations of domination. The con­ tribution of Community Psychology is highlighted, as well as the professional, political and personal training in Community Psychology. / El Perú es un país que muestra un crecimiento macroeconómico significativo, pero esto no ha disminuido las brechas de desigualdad existentes en el país. Buscando colaborar con la capacitación y formación de recursos humanos en las regiones, la Maestría de Psico­ logía Comunitaria de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), ha desarrollado diferentes programas de formación en las regiones de Cusco, Ayacucho y Huancavelica, zonas excluidas y caracterizadas por una violencia social posconflicto. Este artículo describe y analiza las características y el impacto de los programas formativos en los participantes y en la población. Plantea una reflexión sobre cómo desarrollar la formación profesional para construir y recrear el conocimiento, de tal manera que no se reproduzcan relaciones de dominación y evidencia el aporte de la psicología comunitaria en el fortalecimiento de capacidades locales, así como el carácter profesional, político y personal de la formación en psicología comunitaria. / O Peru é um país que demonstra crescimento macroeconômico significativo, mas que não tem diminuido as distancias de desigualdade existentes no país. Buscando colaborar com a capacitação e formação de recursos humanos nas regiões, o Mestrado de Psicologia Comunitaria da PUCP desenvolveu diferentes programas de formação nas regiões de Cusco, Ayacucho e Huancavelica, zonas excluídas e caracterizadas por uma violência pós conflito. Este artigo descreve e analisa as características e o impacto dos programas de formação nos participantes e na população. Corporate education: a study on models of program evaluation / EducaÃÃo corporativa: um estudo sobre modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas

Este estudo relata a geraÃÃo e sistematizaÃÃo de conhecimentos, levando a reflexÃes conceituais, teÃricas e aplicadas da avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais e de educaÃÃo corporativa. A problemÃtica envolve duas perguntas: 1) Que modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais e de educaÃÃo corporativa vÃm sendo divulgados e descritos na literatura em lÃngua portuguesa e inglesa, a partir do modelo apresentado por Kirkpatrick (1959)?; e 2) Esses modelos tÃm demonstrado consistÃncia teÃrica, em termos de elementos e fases que os compÃem, ou hà novas formas de avaliar programas de educaÃÃo corporativa? O objetivo geral desta dissertaÃÃo envolve a apresentaÃÃo, anÃlise e comparaÃÃo dos modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais e de educaÃÃo corporativa presentes na literatura em lÃngua portuguesa e inglesa, produzidos a partir de 1959, e que tÃm sido apresentados como instrumentos voltados para avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais e educaÃÃo corporativa. Esta dissertaÃÃo foi elaborada com base na metodologia quadripolar, composta dos pÃlos: epistemolÃgico, teÃrico, morfolÃgico e tÃcnico. O pÃlo epistemolÃgico fundamenta-se na filosofia Bachelardiana, a qual admite que a ciÃncia e seu objeto nÃo sÃo dados, mas se encontram em construÃÃo; logo, o objeto a ser analisado à flexÃvel a revisÃes e proposiÃÃes de melhoria. O pÃlo teÃrico aponta que a avaliaÃÃo de programas de educaÃÃo corporativa faz parte de um campo de estudo recente, com contribuiÃÃes em maior quantidade nos efeitos da aprendizagem no desempenho dos treinandos, pouco se investigando sobre os efeitos no grupo, unidades de trabalho e organizaÃÃes. Apresenta, tambÃm, contribuiÃÃes mais recentes da literatura em lÃngua inglesa aos modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas de educaÃÃo corporativa a partir de Kirkpatrick e Hamblin. No pÃlo morfolÃgico sÃo descritos seis modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais, quinze modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas de educaÃÃo corporativa e um modelo de avaliaÃÃo de programas multinÃvel. O pÃlo tÃcnico apresenta a metodologia empregada (pesquisa bibliogrÃfica, com anÃlise de conteÃdos), a anÃlise dos modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas de educaÃÃo e educaÃÃo corporativa, e cinco estudos secundÃrios. As consideraÃÃes finais referendam os pressupostos abordados neste trabalho, assinalando que: (1) pesquisas secundÃrias confirmaram que o sucesso de um curso em determinado nÃvel nÃo necessariamente produz o mesmo resultado nos nÃveis subseqÃentes, questionando-se, assim, o pressuposto teÃrico que supÃe relaÃÃes de causalidade ou correlaÃÃes positivas e estatisticamente significativas entre os diferentes nÃveis de avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais dos modelos de Kirkpatrick e Hamblin; (2) constatou-se a inexistÃncia de estudos procurando explicar as ligaÃÃes entre os diferentes tipos de anÃlise (indivÃduo, equipe e organizaÃÃo). Para alcanÃar essa compreensÃo, seria necessÃria uma abordagem multinÃvel, confirmando-se, desse modo, o pressuposto de que hà outros modelos que explicam as relaÃÃes de causalidade e correlaÃÃes entre os diferentes nÃveis de avaliaÃÃo de programas de educaÃÃo corporativa; e, ainda, que (3) apesar dos modelos de avaliaÃÃo de programas educacionais serem diferentes, trazem no seu arcabouÃo os modelos referenciais de Kirkpatrick e Hamblin, validando-se, assim, o pressuposto de que ambos os modelos continuam servindo de base para a formulaÃÃo dos demais. / This study reports on the generation and systematization of knowledge, leading to conceptual reflections, both theoretical and applied, regarding the evaluation of educational programs and of corporative education. The issue involves two questions: 1) Which models of evaluation of educational programs and of corporative education have been brought to light and described in Portuguese and English literature since the model presented by Kirkpatrick (1959)? and 2) Have these models shown theoretical consistency as for the elements and phases that they comprise, or there are new ways to evaluate programs in corporative education? The overall objective of this dissertation involves the presentation, analysis and comparison of the models of the evaluation of both educational programs and programs in corporative education present in Portuguese and English literature, produced since 1959, and which have been presented as instruments aimed at the evaluation of educational programs and programs in corporative education. This dissertation was carried out on the basis of âquadripolarâ methodology which was composed of the following poles: epistemological, theoretical, morphological and technical. The epistemological pole is based on Bachelardian philosophy which assumes that science and its object are not given, but are on the process of being constructed; thus the object to be analyzed is flexible to be reexamined and open to propositions toward its betterment. The theoretical pole indicates that the evaluation of programs in corporative education is part of a field of recent study, with more significant contributions to learning effects on the performance of trainees, paying less attention to the investigation of the effects on the group, the work units and the organizations alike. Further, it presents more recent contributions in English literature to the models of evaluation of programs in corporative education from Kirkpatrick and Hamblin. At the morphological pole, six evaluation models of educational programs, fifteen models of evaluation of corporative education programs and one model of evaluation of multilevel programs are described. The technical pole presents the methodology used (bibliographic review, with content analysis), the analysis of evaluation models of programs in education and in corporative education, as well as five secondary studies. The final considerations confirm the assumptions studied in this work, by underlining that: (1) secondary research works have substantiated that success in a program at a given level does not necessarily bring about the same successful result at the subsequent levels, calling into question the theoretical assumption that causality relations or positive correlations, and statistically significant, among the different levels of evaluation of the educational programs in Kirkpatrick and Hamblinâs models; 2) it has been found out the nonexistence of studies attempting to explain the connections among the different types of analysis (individual, group and organizational). To reach such an understanding, it would be necessary to adopt a multilevel approach to confirm, in this manner, the assumption that there are other models that explain the relations of causality and correlations among the different levels of evaluation of programs in corporate education; and, further, that (3) even though the models of evaluation of educational programs may be different, they bring within their cores the referential models of Kirkpatrick and Hamblinâs, confirming thus the assumption that both models continue serving as the basis for the formulation of the others.

Psychosocial factors involved in injuries sustained in long-distance running

The purpose of the study was to explore the psychosocial factors involved in the susceptibility, experience and rehabilitation of injuries sustained in long-distance running in order to develop a biopsychosocial theoretical model that will help explain the experience of injury and the successful rehabilitation thereof in long-distance running. The study was approached from a biopsychosocial theoretical perspective. A mixed methods research design with the purpose of expansion and using 15 case studies was employed. Purposive sampling with a snowballing effect was used to select the 15 long-distance runners who were injured or had recently recovered from injury. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each of the participants. Furthermore, each participant completed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. An examination of the participants’ experiences of injury reveals that injury has an effect on and is affected by the following factors: running history and training program; perceived benefits and disadvantages of running; personal understanding of injury; personality factors; psychological responses to injury; perceived causes of injury; approach to rehabilitation; and coping mechanisms. Furthermore, there is an inherent interplay of biological or physical, psychological and social processes involved in the experience of injuries sustained in long-distance running. Based on the findings of the study, the biopsychosocial model of long-distance running injuries is proposed. Although the model emanates from the experiences of the 15 participants in the study, it may be applied to long-distance runners in general. A long-distance runner’s experience of running is the core of the model. The model depicts how each of the factors noted previously has an effect on and is affected by injury; thus, showing the integral relationship between injury and each of the factors. Furthermore, the biopsychosocial nature of the model is also portrayed in the model. What's their game? - A study of teacher preparation for using digital game-based teaching

The purpose of this study is to examine perceptions regarding digital game-based teachingand the extent to which teachers of English in Sweden have been prepared to use thisapproach. The basis for this study is the research on the effects of digital games for language learning and the perceived lack of the incorporation of these in teaching, creating a gap between student interests and teaching methods. Therefore, this study investigates the approach of teacher educators who are involved in the design of teacher training programs, as well as the perceptions of in-service teachers at secondary and upper secondary schools in Sweden. In-depth interviews and an online questionnaire were used to gather relevant data. The findings show that all teacher educators who were interviewed found digital game-based teaching to be a relevant approach, but they noted that it is not incorporated in their teacher training courses to a sufficient extent. Additionally, the great majority of in-service teachers did not perceive that they received any education on how to use digital games or game elements in their teaching, while most of them found it to be relevant and had used it to some extent. These results would indicate that digital game-based teaching should be integrated to a greater extent in teacher training programs, and steps should be taken to ensure that current research on the topic reaches the teachers out in the field.

A Qualitative Case Study of Developing Teacher Identity among American Indian Secondary Teachers from the Ute Teacher Training Program

The purpose of this foundational study was to explore the factors that contributed to developing teacher identity among new American Indian teachers. Multifaceted research into the history of American Indian education, the design of American Indian teacher training programs, and the beliefs and experiences of four American Indian secondary teachers gave this study a richly detailed context. Three overarching patterns emerged during the process of analyzing the data: (a) solidarity and independence, (b) habit and change, and (c) tradition and invention. From these patterns, six factors were identified as contributing to developing teacher identity. School-based experiences that affected developing teacher identity included cohort-based peer support, preparation for content area expertise, and teachers as role models. Personal, home, and community beliefs that affected developing teacher identity were as follows: giving back to American Indian communities, serving American Indian students, and becoming empowered as American Indian teachers. Participants in this study represented various tribe affiliations but were all registered students in the Ute Teacher Training Program from 2002 to 2005. The goal of this program, administrated by the Ute Tribe, was to mentor, train, and certify American Indian secondary teachers through an ongoing university education program offered at a rural location close to the Ute reservation. Recommendations in the final chapter of this qualitative case study may provide useful information for the design and implementation of future American Indian teacher education programs.

A Comparison of Three In-Service Training Models in Humanizing Elementary Teachers' Attitudes Toward Children

This study investigated the effectiveness of three in—service training models in humanizing teachers' attitudes toward children. Each model was analyzed separately and then compared with each of the others. The purposes of this study were to determine whether teachers, after participating in one of three in-service models, would experience positive changes in attitudes toward children and would maintain these changes for at least three months. The findings of this study support the conclusion that none of the three in-service programs, as conducted in this study, were effective in changing teachers' attitudes. Possibly the in-service programs lacked cohesiveness and continuity owing to the time intervals between the four sessions. Another possible explanation for the ineffectiveness of the programs is found in the relatively short duration of the programs.
