Perspectivisme transcendantal et philosophie appliquée chez J. G. Fichte / Transcendental perspectivism and applied philosophy by J. G. Fichte

Cette thèse en histoire de la philosophie propose une reconstruction interprétative de la cohérence synchronique et diachronique de la philosophie de Johann Gottlieb Fichte à la lumière de la dynamique perspectiviste de sa pensée transcendantale. Notre recherche part du problème systématique de la philosophie appliquée, c’est-à-dire du passage du point de vue transcendantal à son application dans l’action empirique. En effet, un tel passage est, d’une part, exigé comme une tâche essentielle adressée à la philosophie fichtéenne conformément à son unité théorico–pratique mais, d’autre part, il est rendu problématique par la différenciation principielle entre le point de vue de la réflexion transcendantale et le point de vue de la conscience empirique du donné factuel. <p>Il s’agit d’abord d’élucider les prémisses spéculatives de ce problème dans une théorie des points de vue inscrite au cœur des exposés de la Doctrine de la science (Wissenschaftslehre, WL). Nous tentons ainsi de réinterpréter les différentes versions de la WL qui vont de 1794 à 1804 en nous concentrant sur tous les concepts et procédures épistémologiques qui ressortissent à une logique perspectiviste, pour les appréhender comme des opérateurs de réflexivité du savoir philosophique dans l’auto–construction de la WL. C’est dans une telle dynamique perspectiviste que la tension conceptuelle constitutive du problème de la philosophie appliquée entre le point de vue transcendantal et le point de vue empirique ou entre le système et la vie prend tout son sens philosophique.<p>Cette dynamique perspectiviste qui opère au fondement spéculatif de la WL se prolonge et se concrétise ensuite dans une phénoménologie des visions du monde (Weltansichten) pensées comme points de vue de la liberté, qui trouve sa forme la plus aboutie en 1806. Le point de vue transcendantal de la liberté reconnaît alors sa genèse dans quatre points de vue empiriques qui attachent la liberté respectivement à la nature, à la loi, à l’action créatrice ou à la vie divine. C’est cette phénoménologie que nous mobilisons enfin pour mettre à l’épreuve son potentiel heuristique comme une logique de l’action ou une praxéologie de la liberté dans les écrits de philosophie appliquée et principalement dans le domaine de la philosophie politique. <p>Bref, la philosophie transcendantale de Fichte se développe selon une dynamique perspectiviste qui génère, d’une part, le fondement spéculatif du problème systématique de l’application empirico–pratique de la philosophie transcendantale, et qui livre, d’autre part, en tant que théorie transcendantale des points de vue pratiques, les ressources phénoménologiques et praxéologiques pour une heuristique de la liberté dans la philosophie appliquée.<p>Dans une deuxième partie plus exploratoire, nous cherchons à tester à la fois la signification moderne et le potentiel actuel du lien conceptuel entre réflexivité, perspectivité et liberté mis en exergue dans le système fichtéen. Nous construisons d’abord une série de dialogues que Fichte a pu ou aurait pu mener avec d’autres philosophes de l’époque moderne, en ciblant particulièrement l’idée perspectiviste comme fil conducteur des confrontations avec ces différents systèmes (Leibniz, Kant, Schelling et Hegel). Nous tentons pour finir une incursion dans le champ de la philosophie contemporaine en vue de mettre au jour une postérité cachée de la philosophie fichtéenne dans la pragmatique transcendantale de Karl–Otto Apel à travers une homologie structurelle entre ces deux philosophies, s’attestant notamment dans les questions de la fondation transcendantale du point de vue moral, de son application politique et des rapports qu’il doit entretenir avec d’autres points de vue inscrits dans la dialectique perspectiviste des intérêts de connaissance.<p> / Doctorat en Philosophie / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

Transcedence in immanence - a conversation with Jacques Derrida on space, time and meaning

This study postulates the existence of a notion of transcendence in immanence in the thought of Jacques Derrida. The deconstruction of, amongst others, Husserlian phenomenology and Saussurean structuralism, affords Derrida the opportunity of presenting a thought of contamination, haunting and impurity, which is a thought of transcendence in immanence. The hypothesis of a notion of transcendence in immanence in Derrida’s thought is refined by specifying it as temporal transcendence in immanence. Accordingly, the intimation of transcendence in immanence does not amount to the ontological acceptance of a separate transcendent realm. On the contrary, what appears is a monism: the infinite finitude of temporality. In conversation with the notion of temporal transcendence in immanence intimated in Derrida’s thought, this study proposes a notion of theological transcendence in immanence. Theological transcendence in immanence is presented as an inflected interpretive performance of salient themes from the tradition of Christian theology prior to the advent of modernity. From this perspective, all being is referred to God and finite creation is deemed to be a contingent, non-necessary participation, at an unquantifiable analogical remove, in the life and being of God. The notions of space, time and meaning that emerge from such a premise are subsequently explored, and brought into conversation with the corresponding notions in Derrida’s work. The study concludes by asking whether the conversation between the notions of temporal and theological transcendence in immanence can in any way be furthered, or whether the two positions should rather be regarded as irreconcilable, that is, as lying separatively transcendent to each other. In response, it is suggested that the notion of transcendence in immanence implies the attempt to relate juxtaposed positions after the fashion of transcendence in immanence. The possibility of temporal transcendence in immanence inhabiting theological transcendence in immanence after the fashion of transcendence in immanence is firstly considered and rejected. Thereupon, the reverse option, namely that of theological transcendence in immanence making use of temporal transcendence in immanence, iii while at the same time transcending it, is considered and judged to be a suitable provisional outcome of the conversation with Derrida. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D. Self-realization in contemporary theology : towards a vision of Christian wholeness

This research determines the ground for a Christian theological anthropology that makes provision for a doctrine that supports human self-realization. It is evident from the study that anthropological self-realization is an involved process of becoming truly human, not an isolated course founded solely on the biblical knowledge of being created in the image and likeness of God. All sciences, and in particular anthropological sciences, enjoy the prerogative of unraveling and analyzing the human person. Whether these sciences are neuro-biological, psychological, theological, philosophical, biblical, spiritual or mystical in character, each with its specific method legitimately attempts to explain the complexities of the human person. In the light of this neither philosophy nor theology possess the exclusive claim to authentic human wisdom. In truth most scientific insights have a combined impact on the self-realizing growth and development of humanity. The process of self-realization links theology to real life questions such as evil, suffering, hope, love, justice and freedom, as well as with the immanent, the transcendent, the human and the divine. This thesis holds to the opinion that a theology of self-realization would contribute to the 'humanization' of theology since it brings praxis and theory into close alignment. This study equally expresses the conviction that the doctrine of consecrated vowed life, an ecclesiastical structure in the Roman Catholic Church, is particularly in need of humanization, as the notion of 'self' as a strength has been notably absent from traditional treatises on the practices of religious life. Conventional forms of consecrated vowed life called the woman to suppress and spiritualize at least some of her femininity. This was due to the distorted theological anthropology that sustained consecrated life in which God was presented as an idea to be grasped intellectually, and not an experience to be lived. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. This dissertation investigates the question of transcendence and its relevance to my picture-making . process. The term 'transcendence' refers to any experience which surpasses the finite. In relation to the art-making process it refers to an opening up of the frame. Transcendence is not regarded as a fixed and unalterable state but as such that it encompasses paradox. The fragmentary nature of experience and" knowledge provides the point of departure for this investigation. The possibility of transcendence is partly explored through the concept of symbolic orders. I am using the term 'symbolic orders' to refer to any frameworks which shape human experience in general and the creative process specifically. Upon exploring the concept of transcendence as concerns the work of a number of artists and insofar as it has informed my own pictures it appears that there is a creative system pertaining to the artwork which is transcendent. / Art History, Visual Arts & Musicology / M.A. (Fine Arts)

It was certainly a primary concern of the Second Vatican Council, facing the Third World in a post-colonial era, to show a maximum respect for humanity's invincible cultural pluralism (GS, 44, 58). Hence the emphasis on the primordial and unique missionary principle of incarnation, is derived directly from the scandalous belief that God became one of us in everything except sin (cf Heb. 2:14-18; 4:15). The Christian understanding of the relationship between God and humankind is dominated by this incarnationcd theme, which takes seriously the meaning of finitude, flesh and history. The incarnational self-donation, through which humanity is embraced from within, involved an incomprehensible self-emptying (cf. Phil 2:6-8). In giving himself to us in this intrinsic manner the divine Logos discounts his divinity and humbles himself that he might become truly one of us. Carnal transcendence offers a means of thinking through difference in the work of Luce Irigaray, who asks: "why and how long ago did God withdraw from carnal love?" (1991a, p 16). This thesis argues that Irigaray enables her readers to explore the relationship between carnality, transcendence and difference, but resists elaborating it in her work. Carnal transcendence as difference risks remaining an exercise in rhetoric, rather than the transformative and creative philosophy that Irigaray imagines. -- Irigaray's resistance to the carnal is evident in her arguments for sexual difference, which offers our "salvation" if we think it through, and heralds "a new age of thought, art, poetry, and language: the creation of a new poetics" (1993a, p 5). Note the language of transcendence used here. When considered in the light of carnal transcendence, sexual difference imagines a differently sexed culture. This thesis argues that Irigaray's writing is contradictory on this point: it articulates the plurality of women's sexuality, but emphatically excludes theories of sex and gender that emphasise multiplicity. This thesis challenges these limitations by exploring the possibilities of the "other" couple in Irigaray's writing-mother and daughter - for thinking through carnal transcendence as difference. -- This thesis not only explicates a theoretical model for carnal transcendence as difference; it also attempts to put into practice a poetics - a playful rewriting of theory.
