Olga Krijtová / Olga Krijtova

Hlaváčková, Hana January 2017 (has links)
This thesis focuses on Olga Krijtova (1931-2013), an important figure in the academic field of Dutch studies in the Czech Republic and a prolific translator of Dutch literature into Czech language. She played a major role in introducing Dutch literature to the Czech cultural context and the thesis focuses on examining the influence of communist ideology and her own literary taste and preferences on her translations, which have deeply influenced the whole image of Dutch literature in the Czech culture. These aspects are examined by analysing her peritexts, several translations and epitexts, all of which shed further light on the nature of Krijtova's contributions to the image of Dutch literature in the Czech culture. Furthermore, the obtained data are interpreted through Toury's norms in translation. Key words: Olga Krijtova, literary translations, ideology, paratexts analysis, Dutch literature

L’enjeu du jeu dans Risibles amours de Milan Kundera

Crous, Elsa 10 April 2013 (has links)
M.A. (French) / Milan Kundera is known for being almost obsessive in guarding his privacy, and in the manner in which he controls any translations of his writings. Despite such strictures, the works of this former exile from Czechoslovakia, who now resides in France and writes in French, have been translated and disseminated to a worldwide audience of readers. It is not only his fictional writings which have earned him kudos, but also his ventures into non-fiction, viz. literary criticism. Having April 1st as a birth date was to have a dramatic impact on Kundera, who later declared that this significant date, which is frequently associated with humorous pranks, pushed him to assume the role of philosophical fool in his writings. It is the different manifestations of games which come under scrutiny in this study, as represented in the seven short stories which make up the anthology Laughable Loves (Risibles Amours). Following an investigation of the differences between ancient and modern perception of what qualifies as ‘play’ or ‘games’, the games theories of reputed authors such as Johan Huizinga, Roger Caillois and Stuart Brown are used to form the theoretical basis of this part of the study. The research is further augmented by Eric Berne’s theory on the psychology underlying the games people play, as it manifests in interpersonal relationships. However, no study of games would be complete without investigating the dark side of play, when the game is corrupted through the actions of the players, referees or spectators, or when what starts as a battle of wills spirals into what could best be described as war games. In the pages of this anthology the reader is introduced to various characters who dare to think they can manipulate other people or events, but end up being played by those very people, or by circumstances beyond their control.

"Ich schlage es für Herausgabe vor!" Obraz české beletrie v NDR 70. a 80. let / "I recommend its publication": A Portrait of Czech Fiction in the GDR in the 1970s and 1980s.

Kultová, Petra January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the translations of Czech prose published in the 1970s and 1980s by Volk und Welt, the second largest publishing house in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Using the publisher's and other paratexts, the empirical research aims to reconstruct the image of Czech literature that Volk und Welt helped to create. The issue under scrutiny draws methodological as well as theoretical inspiration from Anton Popovič, the Slovak translation scholar who inter alia postulated a theory of metatexts, André Lefevere and the Manipulation School, as well as Gérard Genette, who came up with a theory of paratexts. The publishing activities of Volk und Welt are painted against a broad political and cultural background. By analysing the publisher's reviews, required for the books to be approved for circulation in the GDR, as well as by dissecting other paratexts, the author uncovers strategies whereby the selected books of Czech literature found their way both to the reviewers and the general public.

Théorie de l’intersection sur les espaces de différentielles holomorphes et méromorphes / Intersection theory of spaces of holomorphic and meromorphic differentials

Sauvaget, Adrien 30 November 2017 (has links)
We construct the space of stable differentials: a moduli space of meromorphic differentials with poles of fixed order. This space is a cone over the moduli space Mg,n of stable curves. If the set of poles is empty, then this cone is the Hodge bundle. We introduce the tautological ring of the projectivized space of stable differentials by analogy with Mg,n. The space of stable differentials is stratified according to the orders of zeros of the differential. We show that the Poincaré-dual cohomology classes of these strata are tautological and can be explicitly computed, this constitutes the main result of this thesis. We apply this result to compute Hurwitz numbers and to show several identities in the Picard group of the strata. Then, we interest ourselves to moduli spaces of differentials of superior order. A curve endowed with a k-differential carry a natural ramified covering of Galois group Z/kZ. The Hodge bundle over the covering curve is decomposed into a direct sum of sub-vector bundles according to the character of Z/kZ. We compute the first Chern class of each of these sub-bundles. A last chapter will be dedicated to the presentation of conjectural relations between classes of strata of differentials, moduli of r-spin structures and double ramification cycles.

François Mauriac v českých překladech / François Mauriac in Czech translations

Šťastná, Zuzana January 2021 (has links)
The subject of the thesis is the Czech reception of works by French author François Mauriac. Providing a complete overview of prose translations, the thesis analyses the development of Czech critical reflection over the course of a century, focusing on both the epitext and peritext (Genette, 1987) of the editions. The second part of the thesis consists of a translatological analysis of the 1927 novel Thérèse Desqueyroux and two Czech translations, resulting in a verdict regarding the possible publication of a new edition of the translation analysed, i.e. re-edition recommendations, the description of necessary editorial changes, or a proposal for a new "generational" translation. Key words François Mauriac, Czech translations, Czech reception, translatological analysis, Thérèse Desqueyroux

Systémy převodníků / Transducer Systems

Skácel, Jiří January 2016 (has links)
This document defines systems of pushdown transducers. The idea of cooperating distributed grammar systems for components working on one word is adjusted for use of transducers instead of grammars. The transducers cooperate by passing output of one to input of another component. It discusses their descriptive power and equivalency between systems with arbitrary numbers of components. The main conclusion is then comparison of their descriptive power with Turing machines with regard to their translation and accepted languages.

Role redaktora v překladech Vladimíra Medka se zaměřením na romány A. Muñoze Moliny Za úplňku a Polský jezdec / The role of a book editor in Vladimír Medek's translations, focused on Muñoz Molina's novels Plenilunio and El jinete polaco

Kutková, Martina January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with the Spanish author Antonio Muñoz Molina and with the Czech translator Vladimír Medek who has translated two novels of the writer: Plenilunio, in Czech as Za úplňku (Garamond, 2008) and El jinete polaco, in Czech as Polský jezdec (Leda, 2018). The thesis also focuses on revisions that a book editor Anežka Charvátová made in the second novel. The thesis is divided in two parts: a theoretical and a practical part. The first one is dedicated briefly to Antonio Muñoz Molina's life and to his work as a writer. The following chapter addresses the translator Vladimír Medek and his translations from Spanish literature. The last chapter of this section describes a book editor's work and his role within a publishing house. The practical part of this thesis deals just with the two novels mentioned above. The two books are characterized first according to Christiane Nord's model of text analysis and then concrete translation processes and solutions used by Vladimír Medek are shown on examples. In case of El jinete polaco a translation handwriting before and after editor's revisions is analysed and changes made in the preparative phase of the translation are traced. That is an aspect of a book editing that an ordinary reader does not come across normally. The translation handwriting was...

A translation into English of the German novel Jakob der Lügner by Jurek Becker

Passell, Harriet 01 January 1983 (has links)
This thesis is a translation of the German novel Jakob der Lugner by Jurek Becker. In my commentary I have tried to explain why I undertook the project of translating this novel from German into English, when that had already been done by Melvin Kornfeld. Kornfeld's translation, which is no longer in print, fails to do justice to Jurek Becker's style and changes a story of heartwarming simplicity, humor and psychological insight into a somewhat tedious account of the life in a ghetto during World War II.
