[pt] Tradicionalmente, tradução e interpretação são diferenciadas em termos de fala e escrita (PAGURA, 2015; MUNDAY, 2016), o que exclui traduções para Libras em vídeo. Esta pesquisa busca elucidar as diferenças entre tradução e interpretação, sem ancorar-se apenas no registro do produto final ou do texto-fonte. Considerando discussões sobre suporte (RODRIGUES, 2018; SOUZA, 2021), o conceito de escrita e fala (SOUZA, 2021), as definições de Kade (apud POCHHACKER, 2016, 2018) para tradução e interpretação, e trabalhos que focam em traduções para Libras em vídeo (SILVÉRIO et. al., 2012; CARNEIRO, VITAL e SOUZA, 2020; PYFERS, 1999; GALASSO et. al., 2018) foram selecionados os seguintes critérios definidores de processos translatórios (tradução ou interpretação), que contemplam tanto línguas de sinais quanto línguas orais: tempo para planejamento textual, apresentação do texto-fonte, ritmo de trabalho, auxílios externos, método de trabalho, refinamento do texto-alvo, competências e habilidades necessárias, material guia utilizado, disfluências não intencionais, recursos multimodais como soluções tradutórias e esforços cognitivos acionados no momento da filmagem. Foi realizada análise bibliométrica em diferentes bases de dados, e análise de 7 vídeos, disponíveis no site da ViaLibras. O material guia utilizado e as disfluências não intencionais apontam para diferentes esforços cognitivos que são ativados simultaneamente em processos típicos de tradução, critério fundamental na diferenciação dos processos. Um material guia que recupere todas as decisões tradutórias tomadas antes da filmagem teve especial importância na definição de processos típicos de tradução para línguas de sinais. Espera-se que o trabalho possa contribuir com a formação de tradutores e intérpretes de Libras. / [en] Traditionally, translation and interpreting are differentiated in terms of speaking and writing (PAGURA, 2015; MUNDAY, 2016), which excludes video translations into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). This research aims to elucidate the differences between translation and interpretating, without relying solely on the record of the final product or the source text. Considering discussions about support (RODRIGUES, 2018; SOUZA, 2021), the concept of writing and speaking (SOUZA, 2021), Kade s definitions (apud POCHHACKER, 2016, 2018) for translation and interpretation, and researches that focus on translations into Libras on video (SILVÉRIO et. al., 2012; CARNEIRO, VITAL and SOUZA, 2020; PYFERS, 1999; GALASSO et. al., 2018), the following defining criteria for translation processes (translation or interpretating) were selected, which include both sign languages and oral languages: time for textual planning, presentation of the source text, work rhythm, external support, work method, refinement of the target text, necessary skills and abilities, guide material used, unintentional disfluencies, multimodal resources as translation solutions and cognitive efforts triggered at the time of filming. Bibliometric analysis was carried out on different databases, as well as the analysis of 7 videos, available on the ViaLibras website. The guide material used and the unintentional disfluencies point to different cognitive efforts that are activated simultaneously in typical translation processes. So that is a fundamental criterion in the differentiation of processes. A guide material that recovers all the translation decisions made before filming was of particular importance in defining typical sign language translation processes. It is hoped that the work can contribute to the training of Libras translators and interpreters.

Zero Divisors, Group Von Neumann Algebras and Injective Modules / Zero Divisors and Linear Independence of Translates

In this thesis we discuss linear dependence of translations which is intimately related to the zero divisor conjecture. We also discuss the square integrable representations of the generalized Wyle-Heisenberg group in 𝑛² dimensions and its relations with Gabor's question from Gabor Analysis in the light of the time-frequency equation. We study the zero divisor conjecture in relation to the reduced 𝐶*-algebras and operator norm 𝐶*-algebras. For certain classes of groups we address the zero divisor conjecture by providing an isomorphism between the the reduced 𝐶*-algebra and the operator norm 𝐶*-algebra. We also provide an isomorphism between the algebra of weak closure and the von Neumann algebra under mild conditions. Finally, we prove some theorems about the injectivity of some spaces as ℂ𝐺 modules for some groups 𝐺. / Master of Science

A study of translation strategies in Guillaume Oyono Mbia's plays

This thesis is focused on a study of translation strategies in Guillaume Oyono Mbia's plays. By using the sociological, formalistic and semiotic approaches to literary criticism to inform the analysis of the source texts and by applying descriptive models outlined within the framework of descriptive translation studies (DTS) to compare the source and target texts, the study establishes the fact that in his target texts Oyono Mbia, self-translating author, has produced a realistic and convincing portrait of his native Bulu culture and society depicted in his source texts by adopting the same default preservation and foreignizing strategy employed in his source texts. Oyono Mbia's works, his translation strategies and translational behaviour are situated in the context of the prevailing trend and attitude (from the sixties to date) of African writers writing in European languages and it is posited that this category of writers are in effect creative translators and that the strategies they use in their original compositions are the same as those outlined by translation scholars or effectively used by practitioners. These strategies enable the writer and the translator of this category of African literature to preserve the "Africanness" which is the essence and main distinguishing feature of that literature. Contrary to some scholars (cf. Bandia 1993:58) who regard the translation phenomenon evident in the creative writings of African writers writing in European languages as a process which is covert, semantic and secondary, the present study of Oyono Mbia's translation strategies clearly reveals the process as overt, communicative and primary. Taking Oyono Mbia's strategies as a case in point, this study postulates that since for the most part, the African writer writing in a European language has captured the African content and form in his original creative translation, what the translator simply needs to do is to carry over such content and form to the other European language. / Linguistics / D.Litt. et Phil. Thesis (MPhil (Afrikaans and Dutch))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s tale Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, as well as its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, have the reputation of being the most quoted and translated texts of all time, after the Bible and Shakespeare. The status of the Alice books as timeless classics is confirmed by the numerous translations and adaptations of the texts that have already been made and is still being made. In this study, a descriptive investigation of André P. Brink’s Afrikaans translation of Carroll’s classic children’s books is undertaken in order to investigate whether the translation is still suitable for Afrikaans readers today. Brink’s Afrikaans translation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was published in 1965, and his translation of Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There in 1968. Firstly, an overview of the most important theoretical contributions to translation studies since the nineteen-eighties is given to provide a foundation for the investigation and description of translations. Relevant terminology, such as adequacy and acceptability, will be explained. Emphasis will especially be placed on the interaction between the theoretical contributions, which will serve as a basis for the conclusion drawn regarding the suitability of the translation. The conclusion will be based on an application where the translation will be investigated. The translation is studied from a theoretical point of view on macrostructural as well as microstructural level. In the macrostructural analysis, references to the title, cover pages, illustrations, chapter titles, and the (in)visibility of the translator will be made. The microstructural analysis comprises an investigation of how Brink dealt with translation problems that arose during the particular translation. As a result of the investigation of the translation, conclusions can be drawn regarding the suitability of the translation for current readers. A recommendation on the possibility of a retranslation is also offered. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Lewis Carroll se klassieke kinderverhaal Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland en die opvolg Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, het die reputasie as die tekste wat, naas die Bybel en Shakespeare, die meeste aangehaal word en vertaal word van alle tekste. Die status van die Alice-verhale as tydlose, klassieke verhale word bevestig deur die verskeie vertalings en verwerkings daarvan wat reeds gedoen is en steeds onderneem word. In hierdie studie word ’n beskrywende ondersoek van André P. Brink se Afrikaanse vertaling van Carroll se verhale onderneem om vas te stel of die vertalings vir huidige lesers steeds gepas is. Brink se Afrikaanse vertaling van Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is reeds in 1965 gepubliseer en die vertaling van Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There in 1968. ’n Oorsig oor die vernaamste vertaalteoretiese bydraes sedert die tagtigerjare word eerstens gebied as gronding vir die bestudering en beskrywing van vertalings. Relevante terminologie, waaronder geskiktheid en aanvaarbaarheid, kom ook aan bod. Daar word veral klem gelê op die interaksie tussen die teoretiese bydraes, wat gesamentlik dien as ’n grondslag vir die gevolgtrekking wat gemaak word oor die gepastheid van die vertaling. Die oordeel oor die gepastheid, al dan nie, van die vertaling word gegrond op ’n toepassing waar die vertaling bestudeer word. Die vertaling word vanuit ’n vertaalteoretiese oogpunt op makro- sowel as mikrovlak bestudeer. Op makrovlak word daar onder andere verwys na die titel, voorblaaie, illustrasies, hoofstuktitels en die (on)sigbaarheid van die vertaler. Die bestudering van die vertaling op mikrovlak behels ’n ondersoek na Brink se hantering van vertaalprobleme wat in die betrokke vertaalsituasie ontstaan. Na aanleiding van die bestudering van die vertaling kan daar afleidings gemaak word oor die gepastheid daarvan vir huidige lesers en word ’n aanbeveling gemaak oor die moontlikheid van ’n hervertaling.

Harry Potter v oficiálním a amatérském překladu / Harry Potter in Czech : Official and Fan Versions

The thesis looks at fan translation of fiction, a phenomenon that, unlike fan translation of anime and videogames, has been mostly overlooked by translation studies until recently. More specifically, we examine fan translations of Harry Potter books. The thesis aims to address a wide range of aspects pertaining to fan translation of fiction. In the opening chapters, it gives a brief overview of the history of fan translation in general and of research papers dedicated to the subject. Based on comparison with fan translations of anime and videogames, the thesis defines functions of fan translations of fiction in relation to official translations. The phenomenon of fan translation of fiction is then set in a wider context, one chapter detailing its relation to fan communities and one addressing the question of copyright. The nature of fan translations of fiction is further explored through comparison with official translations, which in this particular case focuses on Czech translations of Harry Potter books. First, we compare the translation process in case of both official and fan translations and then chosen extracts from the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Based on the analysis of three variants of Zábrana's poem collections Utkvělé černé ikony, Stránky z deníku and Samosoud and his translations of poems by Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gregory Corso and Kenneth Patchen, the thesis aims at finding the tendencies and models present both in Zábrana's original poems and his translations.

The subject of this thesis is the Maghribian francophone literature, its development, major representatives and characteristic features. Furthemore, the reception of the Maghribian literature is mapped, both in France and in the Czech Republic. In the second part of this thesis we focus on the best-known representative of the Maghribian francophone literature, the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun and his work, including its reception both in France and in the Czech Republic. The last part of this thesis is devoted to Ben Jelloun's novel The Sacred Night. The analysis focuses on whether and how the distinctive features of the original are rendered in the translation.
