This study assessed the effect of a compound medium-chain triglycerides, linoleic acid, soy lecithins and vitamins A and E (Dersan) and also lyophilized coconut water in the aqueous and gel forms in the process of healing of experimental cutaneous ulcers. 105 male Wistar rats were employed in which a 4cm2 full thickness skin segment was removed. The animals were randomly distributed into groups constituted of 15 rats comprising three experiments consisting of Control and Reference groups, as well as Amorphous-Aqueous and Crystalline-Aqueous groups (Experiment 1), Amorphous-gel and Crystalline-gel groups (Experiment 2) and Triglycerides (Experiment 3). Such groups were treated via topic, respectively with 0.9% saline, clostebol+neomycin sulphate, amorphous and crystalline coconut water, amorphous and crystalline-gel coconut water and Dersani. The wound areas were measured by digital planimetry at post-operative days zero, 3, 7 and 12; from them the degree and average rate of repair were calculated. Moreover, the healing process was assessed through the criteria of Meyers and the amount of collagen and angiogenesis by means of histochemical methods. At day 3, an expansion of the wound area in the Reference Group and a slight contraction of Control Groups and tests were noted. On the subsequent days the process of repair, measured through the variable degree of healing evolved in a linear form, so that on the twelfth day, the repaired area achieved 77.95% of the initial ulcerated region in the Control Group, 78.40% in the Reference Group, 82.24%, in the Amorphous-Aqueous one, 84.12% in the Crystalline- Aqueous (Experiment 1), 85.09% in the Amorphus-gel Group, 84.20% in the Crystalline-gel Group (Experiment 2) and 83.49% in that of Triglyceride (Experiment 3); no statistically significant differences were found in the experiments. Equally similar were the values for the average rate of repair in regard to the 12 days of treatment: 25,79mm2/day in the Control Group, 25,42mm2/day in the Reference Group, 26.48mm2/day in the Amorphous-Aqueous one, 27.89mm2/day in the Crystalline-Aqueous Group, 26,47mm2/day in the Amorphous-gel Group, 27.04mm2/day in the Crystalline-gel and 27.38mm2/day in the Triglyceride Group. However, as to the Groups Amorphous-aqueous (P<0,01), Amorphous-gel (P<0.05), Crystalline Gel (P<0,05) and Triglycerides (P<0,01), the density of collagen was significantly higher than that observed in the Control Group. Only the Group of Triglycerides showed significantly higher vascular density, deposition of collagen and the granulation tissue than Control and Reference groups (P<0, 01). These findings allow the conclusion that Dersani® have potential to the process of tissue repair / A cicatrização de feridas é uma cascata de eventos celulares e moleculares que interagem para que ocorra a reconstituição do tecido.

______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Introduction: The desaturation index delta-9 (ID9) is a measure that estimates the activity of Stearoyl-CoAdesaturase, anenzymethatacts in the monounsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis. Its increase has been associated with negative prognosis, although the relationship with cardiovascular disease is not well established yet. Thus, in the present study we investigated the relationship between variables expressing ID9 and cardiovascular risk in patients with atherosclerotic disease. Methods: A cohort study was conducted with 48 subjects with atherosclerotic disease aged 45 years or older.Volunteers received nutritional counseling at base line and followed-up for 6 months. Anthropometric, clinical, medication and biochemical data were collected. Participants were divided into 2 groups based on median ID9 calculated as theratiobetween plasma oleic and stearicfattyacids (18: 1n9 / 18: 0). Results: Mean basal VLDL and triglycerides were significantly higher in the higher ID9 group (p = 0.003) compared to those with ID9 below the median values. There was no difference in the prevalence of risk factors, nutrient in take and anthropometrics between groups. After 6 months, there was an increase in total cholesterol, VLDL, andtriglycerides in the group with lowest ID9 and increased body mass index (BMI) in the group with high ID9 (p = 0.040). Interaction was observed between the two groups after 6 months, in which the ID9 high group showed significantly greater BMI (p = 0.043). Conclusion: Results of this study support the conclusion that the ID9 is associated with variables expressing cardiovascular risk and increased levels of ID9 may result in higher BMI after six months in this group of patients.

Efeitos da pectina cítrica de alta e baixa metoxilação e da celulose nos níveis séricos de colesterol e triglicerídeos em ratos hiperlipidêmicos / Effects of high and low methoxyl citric pectin and cellulose on serum levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in hyperllpidemic rats

Fietz, Vivian Rahmeier 02 July 1998 (has links)
The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of high (HMP) and low (LMP) methoxyl pectin and cellulose on serum levels of: a) total cholesterol; b) tryglicerides; c) HDL-cholesterol, and d) LDL-cholesterol in hiperlipidemic rats. The plasmatic levels of urea and glucose were also determined. The trial was conducted at the Laboratório de Bromatologia e Nutrição Experimental do Departamento de Economia Doméstica da Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" (ESALQ/USP) from March throgh December, 1997. Two experiments were performed in rats (Raftus norvegicus var. albinos, strain Wistar), male adults with initial average weight of 220 to 250 g. The experiments lasted 30 days (first biological trial) and 90 days (second trial). On the first biological trial animals were divided into 13 blocks of six rats each. One group received a standard diet (control) and the remaining ones were fed on diets with different levels of pectin (HMP and LMP) and cellulose (5; 10; 15, and 20%). Body weight decreased as fiber levels increased. Cellulose treatments produced a lesser hypolipidemic effect and those with HMP provided more significant results. Diets with 10 and 15% HMP had a higher capacity to reduce the serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and urea. The second trial was based on the more satisfactory results found in the first experiment. Here animals were divided into 4 groups of 18 rats each. One group received a standard diet (control) and the remaining ones were fed on different concentrations of HMP (5, 10, 15%). Likewise the first trial, a decreased body weight was observed as pectin concentrations increased. No hypolipidemic effect reversion occurred during the trial period. Diets with 10 and 15% HMP had a more significant effect on reducing plasmatic levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LOL-cholesterol, urea, and glucose, and on the increased serum levels of the HOL-cholesterol fraction

Oliveira, Jussara de. January 2007 (has links)
Abstract: The lymphedema of upper-extremity (UE) is the main complication due to the surgery and treatment of the breast cancer and it is caused by the destruction of the channels of axillary drainage because of the surgery, radiation therapy or by the local progression of the disease. This research had the intention of verifying the influence of the intakes of medium chain triglycerides (MCT) associated to the physiotherapeutic treatment in the lymphedema of the upper-extremity of postmastectomy women. For this research, it counted with the participation of 14 postmastectomy women who presented lymphedema of upper-extremity at the same side to the surgery, with medium age 64}12 years old and Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27}4,1 kg/m2. After nutritional evaluation they were divided, at ramdom, in two groups: Control Group (n=7), submitted to the physiotherapeutic treatment consisting of the complex decongestive therapy (classic massage, manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandage and cares with the skin), three times a week, during eight weeks and self-massage in the two following weeks; MCT Group (n=7), submitted to the same physiotherapeutic protocol in addition to the daily dietotherapy with intakes of MCT, during ten weeks. The lymphedema was evaluated by the circumferential and volumetric measures, by skin folds of arm with lymphedema and by the amount of total body water. The sensations of discomfort, pain and weight in the UE were collected by visual analogue scales (VAS). At the end of the intervention, the circumferential and volumetric measures, and the tricipital and bicipital skin folds showed significant differences among the groups (p.0,05), with a larger reduction of the lymphedema in the MCT Group. The sensations of discomfort and weight in the UE were significantly smaller in the final comparison related to the initial in the MCT Group. / Orientador: Thais Borges César / Coorientador: João Bosco Faria / Banca: Luciana Maria Malosa Sampaio Jorge / Banca: Flávia Berwert Bellarde / Mestre

Dal Toé, Thatiana Fernandes January 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2013-08-07T19:04:18Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 000399420-Texto+Completo-0.pdf: 258833 bytes, checksum: ad9e16bce9610626b1cf62039ff20710 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007 / Background and aims – Patients with the atherogenic LDL phenotype B often have increased triglyceride and reduced HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. An index using both TG and HDL-C could be a better predictor of lipoprotein subclass profile than TG alone. The present study aimed to evaluate the TG/HDL-C ratio as a predictor of phenotype A or B and its relation with lipoprotein subclasses profile in a population with a wide range of cardiovascular risk. Methods – LDL phenotype and lipoprotein subclasses profile analysis was performed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy in 113 patients under different levels of cardiovascular risk. Results – The participants were allocated in three groups, according to levels of the TG/HDL-C ratio: less or equal 3. 5 (TG/HDL 3. 5; n=56), greater then 3. 5 e less then 5. 0 (3. 5<TG/HDL<5. 0; n=30) and greater then 5. 0 (TG/HDL 5. 0; n=27). There were more patients with coronary heart disease (63%) and LDL phenotype B (78%) in the group TG/HDL 5,0 (p=0,02 e <0,001 respectively). The differences in the lipoprotein subclass profile persisted after adjustments for differences (by ANCOVA), with more atherogenic patterns occurring progressively with increases of TG/HDL-C ratio. The highest concentration of large and medium VLDL particles and small LDL particles were present in the TG/HDL 5. 0 group, concomitant with the lowest concentration of large LDL and HDL subclasses; otherwise, the TG/HDL 3. 0 group showed the lowest concentration of large and medium VLDL and small LDL particles together with the highest concentration of large LDL and HDL subclasses (p<0. 001 all comparisons). The TG/HDL 5. 0 group showed the highest mean VLDL diameter and the lowest mean LDL and HDL diameter, while the TG/HDL 3. 5 group presented the lowest VLDL mean diameter and the highest LDL and HDL mean diameter (p<0. 001 for all comparisons). The odds ratio for presenting LDL phenotype B using the TG/HDL 3. 5 as reference, was 11 (CI 95%: 3 to 37) in the 3,5<TG/HDL<5,0 group and 49 (CI 95%: 11 to 211) in the TG/HDL 5. 0 group. The correlation of TG with LDL particle size disappeared whereas the correlation of TG/HDL-C ratio remained present when both where evaluated conjointly in a model of multiple linear regression (r=0,128 com p=0. 18 e r=-0. 532 com p<0. 001 respectively). Conclusion – The TG/HDL-C ratio is an excellent independent predictor of lipoprotein subclass profile and LDL phenotype in patients of a wide range of cardiovascular risk, with potential utility for use in daily clinical practice.

Efeito da administração oral de cápsulas de extrato de berinjela sobre o perfil lipidico em jejum e pós prandial : ensaio clínico, randomizado, duplo cego controlado por placebo / Effect of the oral administration of eggplant extract capsules on the lipid profile during fasting and postprandial : randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical test

Chiaradia, Vanessa January 2008 (has links)
Introduction: Dry Solanum melongena (eggplant) extract is being used by the population as an alternative treatment for dyslipidemia. It is a vegetable rich in flavonoids, which are polyphenol anti-oxidants found in foods. Studies reveal an inverse relationship between the consumption of foods rich in flavonoids and mortality from coronary artery disease. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of administering eggplant extract capsules on the lipid profile of healthy individuals after an oral lipid overload test. Methods: After informed consent, 59 healthy volunteers were randomized to take capsules containing 450 mg of dry eggplant extract or placebo. The eggplant or placebo capsules were administered in quantities of two capsules, twice a day, for 14 days. On the 14th day, the volunteers were submitted to a lipid overload test immediately after ingesting 900 mg of eggplant extract or placebo as per prior randomization. The nutritional analysis of the meal contained 361 kcal, 22.5 g of total fat, 14.5 g of which was saturated and 251mg of cholesterol. The lipid profile was checked during fasting on days 0 and 14 and on this last day it was checked during fasting and after a lipid overload. Results: Triglyceride levels, expressed as median (interquartile range), found in eggplant group volunteers were 69mg/dl (51 -102), 69 mg/dl (56 - 94) and 92 (64 - 120), before treatment, on the 14th day pre- and postprandial, respectively. In the placebo group, the results were 92mg/dl (77 - 128), 79 (60 - 108) and 98 (73 - 142), respectively. There was no statistically significant interaction between the time and the group as to triglyceride levels (P=0.208). No difference was found in total cholesterol (P=0.973), HDL cholesterol (P=0.059) and LDL cholesterol (P=0.611) levels either. Conclusion: Our results reveal that the use of dry S. Melongena extract capsules for 14 days did not produce any effect on the lipid profile during fasting and postprandial in normal individuals.

Efeito da administração oral de cápsulas de extrato de berinjela sobre o perfil lipidico em jejum e pós prandial : ensaio clínico, randomizado, duplo cego controlado por placebo / Effect of the oral administration of eggplant extract capsules on the lipid profile during fasting and postprandial : randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical test

Chiaradia, Vanessa January 2008 (has links)
Introduction: Dry Solanum melongena (eggplant) extract is being used by the population as an alternative treatment for dyslipidemia.

January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Periodontal disease (PD) is a public health concern, since it leads to loss of dental elements. Furthermore, it has associations with other chronic inflammatory diseases such as the metabolic syndrome and Diabetes mellitus. It is known that irregular periods of sleep can impair memory processing, cell repair, hormonal regulation, carbohydrate metabolism, and increased inflammatory markers. Furthermore, night work or alternating shifts can affect the health of workers. Melatonin (MEL) is the main hormone that controls the biological rhythms in our organism, participating in the regulation of sleep, metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids, being suppressed when there is exposure to light. Considering the regulatory effects of MEL on inflammatory processes, it is relevant to evaluate the influence of ME deficiency or supplementation on a localized inflammatory process such as PD. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of MEL on insulin resistance (IR), insulin signaling, proinflammatory cytokines and lipid profile in pinealectomized rats (PNX) with PD. 144 rats (40 days old) were distributed in 8 groups: 1) control (CN); 2) PD; 3) PNX; 4) PNX and with PD (PNXPD); 5) CN treated with MEL (CNM); 6) PD treated with (PDMEL); 7) PNX treated with MEL (PNXMEL); 8) PNX and PD treated with MEL (PNXPDMEL). Initially the PNX groups were submitted to pinealectomy surgery at 40 days of age and at 60 days of age the animals were submitted to the induction of PD in the lower first ... / The lymphedema of upper-extremity (UE) is the main complication due to the surgery and treatment of the breast cancer and it is caused by the destruction of the channels of axillary drainage because of the surgery, radiation therapy or by the local progression of the disease.

January 2013 (has links)
In this scenario, the action of the protein β-conglycinin from soybean has been remarkably confirmed. Recently, proteins from other species have also received attention in part by homology to the soybean. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of administration of type-vicilin proteins (7S) isolated from soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill), cowpea beans (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp) and adzuki (Vigna angularis Willd) in dyslipidemic rats induced by diet. The most significant finding in this study was that the proteins exerted a significant hypocholesterolemic activity. The animals treated with β-conglycinin had lower serum concentrations of total cholesterol, non-HDL-C and triacylglycerides in 22, 39 and 21%, respectively, and those treated with cowpea and adzuki β-vignin showed minors levels of cholesterol (between 32-33%) and non-HDL-C (between 53-54%) greater than the effects observed for simvastatin (-21% cholesterol, non-HDL -31%). Although the mechanism of action of these proteins is not yet fully understood, a hypothesis observed in the study was the change in gene expression of fatty acid synthase (FAS, minor between 10-28%), HMG-CoA reductase (minor between 12-48 %), HMG-CoA synthase (between 74-83% lower) regulatory factors synthesis of cholesterol and triglycerides, SREBP-2 (minor between 33-57%) and LDL receptor (increased between 12-93%). These results give evidence for the recognition of hypocholesterolemic action exerted by these proteins, and contribute to findings that attribute the effect to the regulation of mRNA of enzymes and other factors related to lipid metabolism / Doutor
