'n Strategie vir die opbou van die plaaslike kerk in die lig van die wisselwerking tussen kerklike eenheid, verskeidenheid en roepingsvervulling / Griffel van Wyk

Van Wyk, Griffel January 2005 (has links)
Every local church, although part of a greater denomination, finds itself in a unique context with unique ministerial needs. It is of the utmost importance for every local church to be contextual in its ministry, to eventually being effective in its ministry. To make this possible a Scriptural view of the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church, currently not existing, is a key factor. The primary goal of this research is to provide guidelines to churches to assure the contextualization of their calling and ministerial strategy. This is done by motivating the necessity thereof, and by providing Scriptural principles for the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church. The research is done according to the practical-theological methodology of Gerben Heitink (1 999). • The first part of the study consists of a hermeneutical process giving perspective on the current state of affairs in ministerial theory and practice, as well as providing Scriptural principles. Chapter 2 of the hermeneutical investigation wants to determine in what manner the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church is currently being recognized when a local church determines their specific calling and ministerial strategy. Furthermore a brief overview is given regarding the state of affairs in South Africa which has an effect on the climate in which ministry has to take place. This ensures the contextualization of the study. In Chapter 3 Scriptural principles are developed regarding the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church. In Chapter 2 a description is made of the situation that has to change and in Chapter 3 the principles are developed by which the change has to take place. The research in Chapter 3 focuses on the periscope of Acts 21:17-26 and related periscopes. • The second part of the study comprises of an empirical investigation of Afrikaans speaking reformed church members in Eastern Pretoria to determine how they view the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church. • The third part comprises the strategic perspective that integrates the research results of Chapters 2, 3, and 4 to develop a theory of practice. This practical theory provides guidelines to local churches to help them determine their specific calling and ministerial strategy in the light of the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church. The result of this study shows that the interplay between the unity of the church, the diversity of the church and the fulfilment of the calling of the church is a key factor in determining the specific calling and ministerial strategy of a local church to ensure their obedience to Gods calling. Beacons were developed in the light of the Scriptural interplay and presented as guidelines for the local church. The beacons are in short: 1 - Identifying the unique context; 2 - Ascertaining of the current interplay; 3 - Ascertaining of the Scriptural interplay; 4 - Breaking through traditions; 5 - Create balance in the interplay; 6 - Ensure unity in communal interest; 7 – ensure diversity, not in own interest; 8 - Accommodating each other. / Thesis (M.Th. Church unity movement in early twentieth-century China : Cheng Jingyi and the Church of Christ in China

Wang, Xiaojing January 2013 (has links)
The pursuit of church indigeneity and unity was a two-fold theme throughout the history of twentieth-century Chinese Christianity. Modern scholarship has generated a good number of studies regarding church indigeneity, but has neglected the parallel trend towards interdenominational co-operation and church union in China. This thesis endeavours to remedy this deficiency. The thesis examines the process of the quest of Chinese Protestants for a united indigenous church, focusing on Cheng Jingyi (1881-1939), one of the key figures in the early twentieth-century ecumenical movement. Additionally, it pays particular attention to the Church of Christ in China as a case study. It discusses the feasibility of the ecumenical convictions which were shared by a considerable number of mainline Chinese Protestants, with Cheng Jingyi as a representative, and evaluates the legacy of the church unity movement in early twentieth-century China. The thesis argues that the church unity movement within the mainline Chinese churches differed from the ecumenical movement in the West, which aimed to realise fraternal co-operation and even union among various denominations. In China the aim was to establish a single national church on a federal pattern, reflecting a Chinese indigenous understanding of ecumenism and ecclesiology. It also reflected a broader vision of the Christian church than that exhibited by the majority of the independent Chinese Protestant groups or by the Chinese church under the control of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement during the 1950s. Based on the conviction of the universal nature of the church in which the Chinese church was an indispensable part, the church unity movement in China surpassed a narrowly nationalistic vision. Nonetheless, the good intentions of the Church of Christ in China were overshadowed by its dependence on foreign subsidies. The church never achieved ‘three-self’ status: it was self-governing and self-propagating, but never self supporting. As such its goal of indigeneity was never fully realised.

The Bahá'í Principle of Religious Unity and the Challenge of Radical Pluralism

May, Dann J. (Dann Joseph) 12 1900 (has links)
The Bahá'í principle of religious unity is unique among the world's religious traditions in that its primary basis is found within its own sacred texts and not in commentaries of those texts. The Bahá'í principle affirms the existence of a common transcendent source from which the religions of the world originate and receive their inspiration. The Bahá'í writings also emphasize the process of personal transformation brought about through faith as a unifying factor in all religious traditions. The apparent differences between the world's religious traditions are explained by appealing to a perspectivist approach grounded in a process metaphysics. For this reason, I have characterized the Bahá'í view as "process perspectivism". Radical pluralism is the greatest philosophical challenge to the Bahá'í principle of religious unity. The main criticisms made by the radical pluralists are briefly examined.

« Un constant approfondissement du cœur ». L’unité de l’œuvre de Péguy selon Hans Urs von Balthasar / « A constant deepening of the heart ». The unity of the work of Péguy according to Hans Urs von Balthasar

Faguer, Nicolas 26 January 2012 (has links)
The theme of the present dissertation is the unity of the work of Charles Péguy in the interpretation of Hans Urs von Balthasar. Balthasar is the first commentator who has attempted to re-read the whole trajectory of Péguy’s life and work in light of the brief self-portrait that the poet offers us in Un nouveau théologien. M. Fernand Laudet. “It was,” Péguy writes there, “a constant deepening of our heart . . . that lead us to discover the path of Christendom.” Meditating on the various meanings of the word “heart” in the poet’s thought, Balthasar is able to show his work rising into an organic edifice with the Mysteries as its keystone. He shows how not only Péguy’s repudiation of an Augustinian Christianity and his resolute embrace of the heart of socialism, but his eventual return to Catholicism make sense only in light of what were from the very beginning his heart’s deepest intentions. But Péguy’s rediscovery of faith meant also the entry into a new deepening of the heart: the contemplation of the mystery of the Christian heart and at last of the Father’s heart. This dissertation seeks to present Balthasar’s original reading of Péguy’s trajectory and, at the same time, to show its fecundity, which is demonstrated by, among other things, its capacity to integrate the major readings of Péguy produced both before and after Balthasar’s own work on the poet.

Youth Politics: The Political Role of AZANYU in the Struggle for Liberation: The Case of AZANYU Thembisa branch, 1980s to 1996.

Moloi, Tshepo Cyril 16 November 2006 (has links)
Student Number : 9809033F - MA research report - School of Social Sciences and Humanities - Faculty of Humanities / The overriding theme of this research report is ‘youth politics’ in South Africa in the 1980s and early 1990s. The report explores the role played by the Africanist youth organization, the Azanian National Youth Unity (AZANYU), in the struggle for liberation. It further examines its response to the transition period which took place in the country in the early 1990s. The report explores in particular the role played by the AZANYU Tembisa branch in the struggle. It contends that this branch adopted a militaristic approach in its fight for liberation. And this prohibited it from participating in the local politics mounted by the Tembisa residents. Instead it focused on national politics. The report further illustrates how youth politics were introduced and sustained in Tembisa over a period of time from the early 1970s.

Battery Performance Comparison Of Unreal Engine 4 And Unity Applications Running On Android

Nilsson, Robin January 2019 (has links)
This thesis evaluates the battery performance of two widely known game engines and compares the results to find the most battery friendly choice. Unity and Unreal Engine 4 are the two engines being compared; it aims to fill the need for research around mobile games battery performance. Smartphones battery life issues becomes more and more common with the powerful smartphones we use in today’s society. They are becoming faster every year, but the batteries stay the same. Power hungry games are not uncommon to find on the biggest game market that has surpassed the combined income of PC and Console games. Tests were performed on an Android system where multiple applications were tested while the battery consumption was measured. The applications are testing how different 2D or 3D components will impact the battery consumption compared to their baseline idling consumption. This thesis provides instructions on how the test applications were developed and which components were included. The findings show that the components had very little impact on the battery consumption for both Unity and Unreal Engine 4. Unity consumed between 1,1 – 1,4 % (36-42mAh) battery for all applications, Unreal Engine 4 consumed between 1,3 – 1,6% (39-48mAh) battery. This thesis conclusion is that Unreal Engine 4 game components require more battery power than the corresponding components of Unity. Therefore, Unity is according to the findings of this thesis a more battery friendly game engine for android games. These results mean that those who looks to create a smaller 2D or 3D game would get a more battery friendly application if they chose to use Unity. However, the results are limited because of how features like gyro, GPS and bigger applications were not included in the performed test cases.

\"Processos de subjetivação inscritos na constituição da experiência de si da/o enfermeira/o nas práticas assistenciais de um cenário de trabalho exemplar - a unidade de terapia intensiva\" / Processes of subjectivity inscribed in the constitution of the nurse’s experience of the self, in the assistance practices of exemplar work scenery – The Unity of Intensive Therapy

Araújo, Laura Filomena Santos de 09 September 2005 (has links)
Na complexidade desta experiência, e de forma contingente a estes dispositivos e mecanismos, está a indagação das possibilidades de governo de si da/o enfermeira/o nos atuais cenários do trabalho / This study aimed describing and analyzing the processes of subjectivity inscribed in the constitution of the nurse’s experience of the self, in the assistance practices of an exemplar work scenery – the Unity of Intensive Therapy; submitting them to a Foucault’s look about the truth regimes, through which the study intended to examine the conditions in which the nurse asks herself/himself what she/he is. In the processes of subjectivity, we try to question the technologies of the self – truth games through which the nurse reflects upon herself/himself, when she/he realizes herself/himself, recognizes herself/himself, judges herself/himself as one. It was used the theoretical referential of Michel Foucault, complemented by studies of Jorge Larrosa about the apparatus of production and mediation of the experience of the self. This research took place at the Unity of Intensive Therapy of the Julio Muller University Hospital, that is a Public Institution of the Unique Health System in Cuiabá. The researched group was constituted, mainly, of nurses who worked with health assistance activities at this University Hospital, once the technologies of the self constitute apparatus of reflexivity, we got interested by the nurse’s experience of the self; however, always considering that other workers participate of this construction. The technical instruments used in this study tried to capture the assistance practices in theirs material discursive sense and also in theirs material not discursive sense, trying to select exemplar cases and registers, as well as discordant cases of these practices. The data analysis was done through the construction of several research boards, which were a result of the look given to the materiality of the practices, of the subject’s power relation, of the subject’s relation with herself/himself, once the constitution of the nurse’s experience of the self – as experience historically singular - relates speech camps, power camps and processes of subjectivity. The production and mediation apparatus of the experience of being nurse show their materiality in the daily practices of reading and intervention upon the body/machine in the UIT in the mechanisms in which they developed (and still develop) competences around the objectivity of the clinic staff and produced (and still produce) the experience of being, the nurse, the extension of the doctor’s eyes and arms; in the mechanisms in which it was captured (and is daily captured) the clinical language and it was produced (and is still produced) the experience of being, the nurse, a subject of the clinical speech; and also in the mechanisms in which it was marked (and is still marked) the place of each one, and it was produced (and is daily produced) the experience of place of herself/himself, the nurse, in relation to the other agents of the practices in the UIT. In these mechanisms, it is observed a production of a professional look, as a look that prefers the clinic instead of the care; and a professional actuation oriented by the clinic. In the complexity of this experience, and in a contingent form to these apparatus and mechanisms, it is the interrogation of the possibilities of the nurse’s Govern of the self in the current work sceneries.

Justice and Order: American Catholic Social Thought and the Immigration Question in the Restriction Era, 1917-1965

McEvoy, Gráinne January 2014 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Kevin Kenny / The present study examines the Catholic social critique of U.S. immigration law from the introduction of literacy testing in 1917 to the removal of the national origins quota system in 1965. During this period, Catholic thinkers developed a distinctive theology of migration and engaged in a long campaign for reform of federal immigration policy. They did so at a time when the debate over that policy was characterised by a number of contentious issues: discrimination against prospective immigrants on the basis of race and national origins; the importation of migrant labor; the obligation to respond to an international refugee crisis; and the imperatives of Cold War national security. Catholic thinking on these issues involved a constant negotiation between a liberal policy position emphasizing the dignity of the individual and man's natural right to migrate, and a restrictive outlook which acknowledged sovereign states' right to control immigration and citizenship in the national interest. The Catholic philosophy was an important dimension of a national debate that oscillated between exclusionary and inclusionary approaches. In keeping with Catholic social doctrine, Catholic intellectuals and immigration experts insisted that the debate over policy and implementation should give priority to the integrity of the migrating family and the attainment and protection of a living wage for all. These priorities coalesced with a post-New Deal political and social emphasis on the heteronormative family as the core consuming and breadwinning unit in American life. Current historical understanding of the debate over American immigration policy elides the significance of religious thought. This study demonstrates that religious ideas and institutions were used to give the Post-World War II campaign for immigration reform and the Hart-Celler Immigration Act of 1965 the weight of moral authority, inclusive of their liberalizing and restrictive features. By giving the 1965 law their imprimatur, Catholic social thinkers helped efface the law's retention of restrictive and selective measures. Examination of the Catholic social critique of immigration policy reveals that socio-economic and moral ideals - as embodied by the idealized nuclear, male breadwinner-headed family - pervaded the debate over immigration reform in this era of restriction. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2014. / Submitted to: Boston College.
