The effect of quality, quantity and interpretive diversity on program attendance in Indiana state parksPrice, Kari L. January 1991 (has links)
Interpretation in both national and state parks provides more than mere entertainment to the visitor. Interpretation has been proven to be an effective deterrent to littering, vandalism and the deterioration of natural park resources. The focus of this research is to determine whether high quality programs, a large number of programs, and/or a diversity of programs offered by Indiana state parks attract a higher percentage of the total number of visitors entering a park facility to an interpretative event. The subjects need in this research were the state parks of Indiana. Data was obtained from a weekly form (SP-48) used by the Indiana parks. SP-48 forms from 1987 through 1990, Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, were used: the total number of programs incorporated into this study was 20,595. The parks were divided into categories (all parks, year-round parks, and seasonal parks) and groups (high, medium and low number of facilities) to provide a similar statistical grouping for analysis. The factors studied were paired and regression analysis were performed on each pairing. Correlation coefficients indicated that an increase in the quantity of programs offered was highly correlated (p<001) to an increase in the percent of gate entrants participating in an interpretive event. Presentation diversity was significantly related to either of the above variables. / Department of Natural Resources

This article examines opposing currents in Peru’s collective memory of their bloody internal war (1980-2000) through an analysis of acts of vandalism perpetrated against one of the country’s few sites of memory, El ojo que llora, in Lima. ‘Vandalism’ in this article is understood as a form of writing (though a violent one) of an alternative vision of the past. Originally intended as a space for remembering and paying homage to the victims of the armed conflict, the site has become a space for contesting memories. As a site of performance of memory and human rights claims, and especially as the target of continued defacement, El ojo que llora has become a stage on which the presence of the past —in its still-conflictual strains— is made visible for national and international publics. It thus refuses the very closure that government narratives would impose, and thereby keeps open public engagement with the past. The ongoing conflicts over the past made visible at this site point to the struggles to define an overarching memory, and in the processthe very meaning of ‘victim’ is constrained.

Zlatan's statue is vandalized after a business decision, which really has nothing to do with his identity, but still a lot is written about him as "the other". The purpose of this survey is to find out how Zlatan is represented after this business decision in the online publications I chose to analyze. I also want to find out if there are any similarities between the three online publications I chose: Svenska Dagbladet, Sydsvenskan and Dagens Nyheter. Nine articles in total but three articles per online publication, therefore I have chosen to use a qualitative method such as text analysis. In the analysis, I will link the results to theories such as the imagined community, representation and the design theory. The results show that there are similarities in how the different online publications represent Zlatan after the business decision, is as "the other".

Vandalism and social capital : A case study of Hovsjö, Södertälje / Vandalism och socialt kapital : En fallstudie av Hovsjö, SödertäljeKapoor, Aman, Jayagopal, Nishka Rani January 2020 (has links)
Vandalism is a form of a crime and threatens the safety and unity of a neighborhood. To inspect the issues of vandalism, a case study of Hovsjö in Södertälje is chosen. The area has most immigrants mainly from the Middle Eastern descent. Attempt is made to investigate these issues of vandalism with the help of theory, public documents of the area, history, physical evidence using photographs and conducting interviews of the residents and the authority. The issues of vandalism upon thorough analysis are found to be very subjective and are open to different interpretations. Thus, this thesis is about the authors’ version of interpreting the issue as immigrants from India. One of the key findings from the study is that there is a clear lack of trust between the authorities and the residents of Hovsjö. The reasons for this lack of trust is due to many issues but mostly revolve around the integration of the immigrants into the Swedish society. Thus, few ideas are recommended as an attempt to encourage better integration of immigrants into the Swedish Society and other generic ideas to prevent vandalism and increase the social capital. These ideas include ‘earliest is best’, ‘one size does not fit all’, ‘break the ice’, ‘get the right mix’ etc. among others.

Koloniala monument, vandalism och avkolonialisering : En fallstudie i Joiri Minayas arbeteGlasnovic, Nikita January 2023 (has links)

The effectiveness of interpretation in reducing depreciative behavior in modern campgroundsOliver, Susan S. January 1982 (has links)
Depreciative behavior is a major problem for managers of recreation areas and for visitors of these areas. Providing information has been suggested as a potential solution to this management problem. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of interpretation/information and determine the influence of various communication channels and site, situational, and user group characteristics on the effectiveness of information in reducing depreciative behavior (tree damage, litter, and excessive noise) in North Bend Park - a large, modern U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground. A Posttest-Only Control Group experimental design was used to collect data on weekends during the 1981 summer season.
Preliminary data analysis appears to indicate that information was effective in reducing tree damage and litter in a modern campground. The Brochure Alone and Brochure + Personal Contact treatments appear to have been effective in reducing tree damage and litter, but the Brochure + Personal Contact + Involvement treatment appeared ineffective. The three communication channels did not appear to have been very effective, however, in reducing the amount of litter left in the fireplace, the number of tree burns due to lanterns, and the number of incidents of inappropriate noise. There was some evidence also, that type of camping equipment, party type, and previous camping experience at the park were characteristics which influenced the users’ response to the interpretive messages. / Master of Science
