Let's Get Virtual: Observing Physical Education Field Experiences through Synchronous Video Conferencing

Krause, Jennifer M., Douglas, Scott, Lynch, Brandy M., Kesselring, LeAnn E. 01 January 2018 (has links)
The student-teaching experience is the most noteworthy experience for a teacher candidate (TC) in a teacher preparation program. University supervisors play a crucial role in this experience through feedback, support and maintaining congruency between the student teaching environment and the teacher preparation program. Due to issues related to time, distance and budget, completing on-site observations of the TC can be challenging. This article serves as a practical guide for university supervisors to virtually observe TCs using synchronous video conferencing. Technology and equipment needed, preparation tasks, and factors to consider are explored.

AN INVESTIGATION OF AN ASYNCHRONOUS BEHAVIOR SKILLS TRAINING ON TEACHING PRESERVICE TEACHERS HOW TO CONDUCT AN MSWO PREFERENCE ASSESSMENT

Brofman, Kylie Nicole January 2021 (has links)
Past research has not evaluated the effectiveness of a remote behavior skills training (BST) package with pre-service special education teachers’ implementation of a multiple stimulus without replacement (MSWO) preference assessment (PA). Thus, this research was needed to evaluate the effectiveness of a remote BST package on pre-service special education teacher’s implementation of a MSWO PA. This study was conducted to first, evaluate the effects of pre-service special education teachers’ fidelity of conducting a MSWO PA using remote BST and next, to evaluate the intervention gains maintained over time, and last to determine if pre-service special education teachers believe the MSWO PA results in favorable social validity measures. The components of behavioral skills training used were remote instruction, remote video modeling, a remote quiz, and feedback. Results suggest that a remote BST package is a useful training strategy when teaching pre-service special education teachers PA. During 1-week follow-up across participants, each participant maintained their skills of implementation. Impact of QoS and contextual parameters on QoE in a videoconferencing application

Madhi, Kristi January 2016 (has links)
This project will be based in an objective and as well as subjective study related to Quality of Experience in a video conference application, appear.in. Indeed the study puts emphasis on finding possible correlations between Quality of Service parameters, that in the study are represented by some of the most meaningful network parameters, and contextual parameters with Quality of Experience. To achieve this the study was based in two different scenarios using two test environments. One is based on having an all free test and the other conducted in a created test-bad for monitoring and altering network parameters to see how user respond to the changes. Both scenarios were accompanied by a survey that provided useful information about the subjective perception of different individuals that took part in the testing phase. The project is divided in two phases where we set up the required environments for the test and then we process results to find correlation between the above mentioned parameters. In the end of the project all the results and the conclusions are presented providing a clearer view for what was done. The project itself might represent a good foundation to be used in the future for other studies related to video conferencing application.

Presence production

Knudsen, Claus Jørgen Schibsted January 2004 (has links)
This investigation has been carried out at the RoyalInstitute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. The main goal hasbeen to investigate the factors determining the production of asense of presence and reality in video mediated communication.Presenceis in these studies defines as the subjectiveexperience of being together in one place when one isphysically situated in another. Presence is an emergentproperty; it has no physicality, but arises as a mentalsensation. Special attention has been paid to spatial factors, embodiment issues, and narrative elements related to theproduction of presence. A context map has been used in order to model the semanticsof presence production and to visualize the relationshipsbetween the determining factors. The conclusions may besummarized as follows:     Knowledge about physical and extended spaces and bodiesand of the shifting of attention between these is importantin presence production.     Well planned design of physical and virtual spacesenhances the sense of presence.     Coherent design and production of mediated embodiment canenhance the sense of presence.     Conscious use of content characteristics, e.g., goodstorytelling, can enhance the sense of presence.     Different communication modes need the support ofdifferent combinations of presence production factors.     Even technically poorly mediated communication maysupport a sense of presence and reality if the storytellingis good.     The human sensory environment should be supported by asense of non-mediation, technological transparency, on theplane of discourse.     The results indicate that individual differencesinfluence the sense of presence and reality. The perception of video mediated communication evolves aspeople become daily users. People seem to intuitively begin tointerpret new types of mediated cues, adding what is missing incomparison to a real time physical communicationexperience. O Projeto Perforum no contexto das comemorações dos 500 anos do Brasil / The Perforum Project in the context of the celebrations of Brazil 500 years

Bovo, Thaís Thomaz 06 December 2013 (has links)
This research aims to provide a comparative analysis of three events in the context of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil: A cultural exhibition in Sao Paulo, titled Bienal + 500, an official diplomatic act in Porto Seguro, where it was signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Brazil and Portugal, and an alternative project of art and technology called Project Perforum the latter designed by Artur Matuck in collaboration with a group of innovative artists who challenged the triumphalist eurocentric officially proposed celebrations by the time. The Project Perforum intended to involve ethnic groups and cultures who participated in the process of formation of the Brazilian nation, intending a dialogical paradigm between these cultures. Moreover it proposed a series of experiments with the emerging telematic art this being understood as the art developed in the sphere of telecommunication, that is, one that occurs while transmitting electronic information through the use of mobile equipment, fax, computer networks, television, satellites, or videoconferencing.

The Preservice Teachers

Ersoy, Halil 01 July 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This study aims to investigate the preservice teachers&rsquo / perceptions about online communication in blended learning. The study tries to understand strengths and weaknesses of online communication from the learners&rsquo / point of view. To reach this aim, four research questions are asked: (1) What are the learners&rsquo / perceptions about the online synchronous communication tool? (2) What are the learners&rsquo / perceptions about web-based support? (3) What are the learners&rsquo / perceptions about collaboration with online communication? (4) What are the learners&rsquo / perceptions about the roles of the instructor at blended learning as (a) administrator, (b) facilitator, (c) technician, and (d) evaluator? To answer the research questions, a case study in line with action research design was conducted. An undergraduate course in blended learning form was selected as a case and both synchronous and asynchronous communication tools were utilized throughout the semester. At the end of the semester, data about perceptions was collected via four questionnaires and interviews with the students. Both qualitative and quantitative results showed that the online communication facilities in the case were perceived to be adequate by the students. Yet, the students reflected diverse thoughts about preference of communication modalities in synchronous communication. Moreover, the value of asynchronous communication was pointed out. It is concluded that communication needs, communication partner and other contextual factor have impact on selection of communication modalities.
