AUDIO-NAVIGATION : What are the benefits of utilising diegetic spatial audio in audio-navigation software?

Östblad, Per Anders January 2012 (has links)
The task of navigating and orienting oneself in an unknown environment might seem arbitrary to most people. For a person with a visual impairment however, it can prove to be a challenge. Much research has been conducted to provide useful software solutions to aid this problem. Nevertheless, not enough research has been put into studying the use of our everyday sounds for such software. The present thesis is aimed at evaluating the usefulness of utilising diegetic spatial audio. After a real environment was replicated in a virtual audio environment without visual input, 16 sound students from the University of Skövde were asked to perform the same set of tasks in the virtual and the real environment. The results indicated that diegetic spatial audio is an important part of navigating without vision and that the experiment would be interesting to perform on a larger scale with visually impaired participants.

Att leva med glaukom : En systematisk litteraturstudie / To live with glaucoma : A systematic literature review

Hagervall Sundström, Helen, Yaruta, Elena January 2022 (has links)
Background: Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease with a progressive course that can lead to permanent visual impairment. Like other chronic diseases, it affects the daily life of the sufferer. Aim: The aim of the literature study was to elucidate experiences of living with the disease glaucoma. Method: The study was conducted as a systematic literature study with a qualitative design and inductive approach. It was based on 11 scientific articles. Results: The literature study resulted in six categories: fear, frustration, trust, knowledge, independence, and acceptance. Conclusion: The disease often has a negative impact on daily life. It is important that the ophthalmic nurse has good knowledge in order to take relevant nursing measures for people with glaucoma. Increased focus on psychological support and patient education should be included in the ophthalmic nurse training as ophthalmic nurses play an important role in meeting these people. As both the population and the number of elderly people are expected to increase, it is of great importance that more research is carried out which would benefit both ophthalmic nurses and society.
