Tabular data models have been used a lot for publishing data on the Web because of its simplicity of representation and easy manipulation. However, in some cases the data are not disposed in tabular files appropriately, which can cause data processing problems. Thus, the W3C proposed a standard specification for representing data in tabular format. In this context this work has as main objective to propose a solution to the problem of validating tabular data files, represented in CSV, files and described by metadata represented as JSON files and described, according to the specification proposed by the W3C. The main contribution of this work is the definition of a tabular data file validation process and algorithms necessary for the implementation of this process as well as the implementation of a prototype that aimed to validate tabular data as specified by the W3C. Other important contribution is the execution of experiments with data sources available on the Web with the objective to evaluate the approach proposed in this work.

DATABASE ALTERATION WITH XML

Self, Lance 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Properly formatted XML files can contain telemetry data points, data type definitions, define table relationships, and other attributes that can expedite database updates. There are a number of methods to alter a database when using an XML file as the input. Some methods are useful with one aspect, such as creating tables, while others are better at updating data tables. This paper describes three methods to accomplish database updates using XML and discusses some positive and negative aspects to each approach.

Acessibilidade em menus de navegação horizontais na Web para pessoas de meia idade / Accessibility evaluation of horizontal navigation bar with drop-down menus by middle aged adults

Santos, Eduardo Pezutti Beletato dos 09 January 2012 (has links)
With the constant number of people who use facilitated through the use of the Web and its vast amount of content, have motivated computer specialists to investigate and monitor the trial of those users. However, barriers to access to information are found naturally with advancing age, difficulties as the partial or total loss of vision, reducing accuracy of movements, and decreased retention of steps to be performed are some examples of these barriers . To overcome the difficulties presented by the users, studies have been conducted in order to minimize them in general. Their results are summarized in standards / guidelines to be followed in order to provide better usability and accessibility for the whole range of different types of users. In this context, the present study, we investigate which of these standards along with standards for the creation of websites that provide content provide better adaptation to meet the demand of people with older age. Kampen fortsätter : En studie om kompatibilitetsproblem mellan moderna webbläsare / The fight continues : A study of compatibility problems of modern web browsers

Trenkler, Silja January 2006 (has links)
During the 1990’s the two leading web browsers, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, fought each other in a battle for market shares, the so-called browser war. This war caused almost complete incompatibility between the web browsers. Since then, there has been a continual development of common standards for the web. Today conditions for compatibility are a lot better compared to ten years ago, but the problem is not completely solved. The modern web browsers Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5, Opera 8.5 and Safari can display the exact same web page differently despite common standards. The aim of this essay is to investigate the technical causes of the problem and to develop suggested solutions for creating a web page that is fully compatible in modern browsers. The essay contains an extensive literature study, considering definitions, history and problems. The theory was completed with three field interviews with professional web designers. The investigations show that compatibility problems depend on several factors and that it is impossible to create one exhaustive solution that encompasses all problems. However, by combining different techniques one can create a method that covers a large part of both general and specific compatibility problems without colliding with recommended standards.</p>

W3C Geolocation API ur ett utvecklarperspektiv / W3C Geolocation API from a developer’s perspective

Jönsson, Jesper January 2012 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to investigate the W3C Geolocation API from a developer’s perspective, focused on whether it makes development of location-based applications more accessible to developers. This has been investigated by looking at available ways to locate, possible uses, the functionality offered, the necessary level of prior knowledge needed for a developer and requirements on developer tools. This has been achieved through studies in relevant areas, a thorough introduction to W3C Geolocation API functionality, and by using the API to develop two different location-based applications as a demonstration. Testing of applications, on different platforms and in different environments, in conjunction with investigation of the rest of the material has shown that W3C Geolocation API in many ways actually makes development of location-based applications more accessible for developers. The API also provides fully adequate functionality and quality to meet the requirements for development of both simple and very advanced location-based applications.

Using XML as an Intercommunication medium in Web-Based Information Systems

Helgason, Magnus Thor January 2001 (has links)
<p>The Web has been defined as the interface between Web servers and Web clients. Traditionally, HTML has been used as an intercommunication medium for the Web. Web-Based Information Systems (WBISs) is the most general class of Web sites being fully distributed, platform-independent and having a hypertextual user interface. XML is emerging as a new standard for data exchange and data representation on the Internet. The W3C Consortium is responsible for the development of standards for the Web. In this dissertation we have showed how XSL and XPath could be used to meet the query requirements of SWISS-PROT, which is a WBIS. We have showed that XSL offers some level of extensibility as a query language for SWISS-PROT, but if queries were to be extended to a high level of complexity XQuery would be more appropriate to use since using XSL for this purpose includes hand-coding of for-loops and if-statements. Another problem is related to maintenance. Updating the structure of the XML source would include updating hand-coded for-loops and if-statements. There is still no recommendation available for XQuery at the W3C Consortium. Considering other factors of information management, we have showed that XSL and XPath would play a significant role in displaying and formatting information in SWISS-PROT. This would though require that Web browsers in SWISS-PROT have standardised support for XML.</p>

HTML5 Web application security with OWASP / HTML5 Webbapplikation säkerhet med OWASP

Nilsson, Daniel, Åberg, Hampus January 2013 (has links)
HTML5 has gained a lot of interest the last couple of years from web developers. HTML5 is the new upcoming standard for HTML set to be released in the end of 2014 (W3C). In this report HTML5 is reviewed in order to determine if it has made web applications more secure. This is done with information study and the use of experimental test cases. We use the latest OWASP top ten list of security risks in web applications as a benchmark. As a result we found ve correlations between OWASP top ten list and HTML5 functionality. The results clearly indicates that HTML5 is a ecting web application security. The security risks that was successfully exploited is Cross-site scripting, Security Miscon guration, Sensitive Data Exposure, Cross-site request forgery and Unvalidated redirects and forwards. We suggest countermeasures for the tests performed and discuss how developers should have security in mind when it comes to developing with HTML5.
