Estudo comparativo entre dois métodos de tratamento da lesão do ligamento cruzado posterior por avulsão óssea na tíbia : amarrilho artroscópico e fixação com parafuso por via posterior aberta / Comparative study between two methods of treatment of tibial posterior cruciate ligament bony avulsion: arthroscopic suture and screw fixation using open posterior approach.

Sasaki, Sandra Umeda 15 December 2003 (has links)
Nowadays, good results on the management of posterior cruciate ligament bony avulsion of the tibia are associated with early surgical repair. The usual method of treatment is the open posterior approach with screw fixation, wich requires popliteal neurovascular bundle direct manipulation. This study presents a new arthroscopic suture and compares it with the conventional technique, using biomechanical tests and direct inspection in cadaveric specimens (20 knees). On both methods there was a fixation fail in one knee. The analisys of tibial posterior displacement (p=0,23) and stiffness (p=0,20) were similar for the two methods. The Arthroscopic suture presented is an effective reattachment method for this fracture pattern.

Synthesis and characterization of molecules for electronic devices / Synthèse et caractérisation de molécules pour dispositifs électroniques

Herranz-Lancho, Coral 06 December 2013 (has links)
The demand of downscaling of technology will reach its limit at the atomic length scale. This claim creates the necessity of investigating the smallest components suitable to become devices, single molecules or group of atoms. Therefore, 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-ylethynyl) benzene (BPEB), Dibenzo[a,h]thianthrene (DBTH) and Bis{82,92,152,162,222,232-hexa-(2,4,6-trifluorophenoxy)[g,l,q]-5,10,15,20-tetraazaporphyrino)}[b,e]-benzene (H4Pc2) have been designed, synthesized and characterized to investigate transport of charge through molecules and surface confined molecular switching. Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM), such as STM, nc-AFM and combined STM/AFM were used to study the molecules on near-surface conditions. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were used to interpret the experimental results. Moreover, the self-assembly of new fluorinated metalo mono-phthalocyanines, MPc (M= Mg2+, 2H+, Co2+) was investigated in solution.Firstly, conductance experiments performed while a molecular wire (BPEB) was being lifted up from a surface revealed the conformational changes associated to the transport of electrons through molecules. Secondly, the “butterfly” flapping motion in the class of the thianthrenes was blocked due to the interaction with a surface at low temperature. This block leads to the first stereochemical study of a quiral thianthere derivative (DBTH). The STM experiments on DBTH revealed a reproducible and non-destructive switching between two surface confined configurations of DBTH. In addition, nc-AFM with submolecular resolution has been proved to be a powerful tool for the full characterization and distinction of configurational and constitutional isomers on surfaces. Thirdly, the molecular structure of a binuclear phthalocyanine (H4Pc2) was confirmed through constant current STM and constant high _f AFM experiments. These results set the state of future spintronic transport experiments (ongoing work). On the other hand, the aggregation studies on MPc revealed that the coordination character of the central atom of the Pc cavity has an important effect on the formation of aggregates. Additionally, electrochemical experiments demonstrated that molecular aggregations can lead to the quenching of the electrochemical-active nature of a Co2+ atom.Herein it has been demonstrated that SPM are suitable techniques to study the conformational and configurational changes associated with the tunneling of electrons through planar and non-planar molecules in real space. Aggregation studies of magnetic switches were carried out to better understand the supramolecular organization under near surface conditions, a key point for the design of future devices based on the bottom up approach.

The main motivation is the lack of definitive solutions for such faults. These faults often occur when an overhead conductor breaks and falls on high impedance surface such as asphalt road, cement, trees, among others. That fault is analyzed in a Single wire earth return system - SWER, and in a rural three-phase feeder. The SWER is deduced starting from a generic three-phase system, where simplifications based on practical assumptions are added. Simulations are accomplished in two distribution test systems, with the objective of identifying the behavior pattern of the high impedance faults. It is also included a discussion and analysis of results and suggestions related to future works.

Fils conducteurs nanostructurés (cuivre et composites nanotube de carbone - cuivre) pour application en champs magnétiques intenses / Copper and carbon nanotube-copper composite wires for high-field-magnet applications

Arnaud, Claire 03 November 2015 (has links)
In order to produce high magnetic fields (100 T), the conducting wires used in pulsed coils must show both a high tensile strength and very low electrical resistivity. The LNCMI and NNC team of CIRIMAT explore creative solutions based on the development of nanostructured copper wires and carbon nanotube - copper (CNT-Cu) nanocomposite wires by the original combination of spark plasma sintering (SPS) and room-temperature wire-drawing (WD). Copper cylinders were prepared by SPS of micrometric commercial powders. Crystal growth is very low and the copper grains size is 10 times lower than for conventional wire precursors. The cylinders were wire-drawn, without breaking, into wires of decreasing diameter (down to 0.198 mm) and several meters long. The ultrafine Cu grains are highly elongated in the WD direction. No twinning was observed. Our copper wires show an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) at 293K and 77K higher than those for wires prepared from conventional OFHC copper, which could result from the combination of strain hardening and Orowan mechanisms. The electrical resistivity is about 12% higher than those for the OFHC wires. For the CNT-Cu nanocomposites, an adaptation of preparation route (functionalization of double-walled and eight-walled CNTs, mixing, freeze-drying, H2 reduction) resulted in the production of 14 g powder batches with a homogeneous dispersion of the CNTs. Due to the very low carbon content (= 1%), the preparation of the cylinders and wires by the methods used for pure copper is possible without modification. The UTS of the CNT-Cu wirers is 10-25% higher than for the corresponding copper wires. The CNTs have little influence on the Cu microstructure and their probable alignment allows one to benefit from their high tensile strength. The electrical resistivity is only moderately higher than for the corresponding copper wires (about 12% at 77K). The last chapter was devoted to the preparation of "dog-bone" Cu and CNT-Cu test samples by "near-net-shape" SPS. We have brought to the fore the influence of the nature of the die (graphite or WC-Co) on the microstructure, microhardness and tensile strength, for the same sintering cycle.

Analysis and design of efficient passive components for the millimeter-wave and THz bands

Berenguer Verdú, Antonio José 29 June 2017 (has links)
This thesis tackles issues of particular interest regarding analysis and design of passive components at the mm-wave and Terahertz (THz) bands. Innovative analysis techniques and modeling of complex structures, design procedures, and practical implementation of advanced passive devices are presented. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to THz passive components. These days, THz technology suffers from the lack of suitable waveguiding structures since both, metals and dielectric, are lossy at THz frequencies. This implies that neither conventional closed metallic structures used at microwave frequencies, nor dielectric waveguides used in the optical regime, are adequate solutions. Among a variety of new proposals, the Single Wire Waveguide (SWW) stands out due to its low attenuation and dispersion. However, this surface waveguide presents difficult excitation and strong radiation on bends. A Dielectric-Coated Single Wire Waveguide (DCSWW) can be used to alleviate these problems, but advantages of the SWW are lost and new problems arise. Until now, literature has not given proper solution to radiation on bends and, on the other hand, rigorous characterization of these waveguides lacks these days. This thesis provides, for the first time, a complete modal analysis of both waveguides, appropriated for THz frequencies. This analysis is later applied to solve the problem of radiation on bends. Several structures and design procedures to alleviate radiation losses are presented and experimentally validated. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to mm-wave passive components. These days, when implementing passive components to operate at such small, millimetric wavelengths, to ensure proper metallic contact and alignment between parts results challenging. In addition, dielectric absorption becomes significant at mm-wave frequencies. Consequently, conventional hollow metallic waveguides and planar transmission lines present high attenuation so that new topologies are being considered. Gap Waveguides (GWs), based on a periodic structure introducing an Electromagnetic Bandgap effect, result very suitable since they do not require metallic contacts and avoid dielectric losses. However, although GWs have great potential, several issues prevent GW technology from becoming consolidated and universally used. On the one hand, the topological complexity of GWs difficulties the design process since full-wave simulations are time-costly and there is a lack of appropriate analysis methods and suitable synthesis procedures. On the other hand, benefits of using GWs instead of conventional structures are required to be more clearly evidenced with high-performance GW components and proper comparatives with conventional structures. This thesis introduces several efficient analysis methods, models, and synthesis techniques that will allow engineers without significant background in GWs to straightforwardly implement GW devices. In addition, several high-performance narrow-band filters operating at Ka-band and V-band, as well as a rigorous comparative with rectangular waveguide topology, are presented.
