La filosofía como una función terapéutica para la vida en Wittgenstein

Wittgenstein pone el acento, para entender y hacer filosofía, en la actividad misma. Es decir, el autor que nos servimos para nuestra investigación, lejos de intentar construir sistemas filosóficos totalizantes, considera que el trabajo en filosofía es como en la arquitectura, esto es, es un trabajo de construcción, pero en uno mismo. Uno mismo hace filosofía, clarificando conceptos, analizándolos, distinguiéndolos de otros, pero también hace filosofía para darle sentido a su vida. De ahí que, el objeto de nuestra investigación será examinar de qué manera la actividad filosofía es una forma de terapia para la vida misma y no es exclusiva de los filósofos sino que es una herramienta que esclarece y purifica, y en la acción misma, nos libera.

Language and logic in Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus

This thesis discusses some central aspects of Wittgenstein’s conception of language and logic in his Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus and brings them into relation with the philosophies of Frege and Russell. The main contention is that a fruitful way of understanding the Tractatus is to see it as responding to tensions in Frege’s conception of logic and Russell’s theory of judgement. In the thesis the philosophy of the Tractatus is presented as developing from these two strands of criticism and thus as the culmination of the philosophy of logic and language developed in the early analytic period. Part one examines relevant features of Frege’s philosophy of logic. Besides shedding light on Frege’s philosophy in its own right, it aims at preparing the ground for a discussion of those aspects of the Tractatus’ conception of logic which derive from Wittgenstein’s critical response to Frege. Part two first presents Russell’s early view on truth and judgement, before considering several variants of the multiple relation theory of judgement, devised in opposition to it. Part three discusses the development of Wittgenstein’s conception of language and logic, beginning with Wittgenstein’s criticism of the multiple relation theory and his early theory of sense, seen as containing the seeds of the picture theory of propositions presented in the Tractatus. I then consider the relation between Wittgenstein’s pictorial conception of language and his conception of logic, arguing that Wittgenstein’s understanding of sense in terms of bipolarity grounds his view of logical complexity and of the essence of logic as a whole. This view, I show, is free from the internal tensions that affect Frege’s understanding of the nature of logic.

Esta é uma dissertação de mestrado que apresenta uma produção de sentido sobre os documentos curriculares que pautam a Rede Municipal de Educação de Porto Alegre (RME). Sua base teórica é advinda das formulações filosóficas de Ludwig Wittgenstein, as quais serviram de balizas para as discussões sobre as significações dos objetos matemáticos sugeridos pelos Referenciais Curriculares da RME. No percurso analítico de nosso trabalho, articulamos as noções de jogos de linguagens com a noção (normativa) de prática, pelo elo de “seguir regras”. Em um segundo momento, propomos uma discussão acerca do caráter das proposições matemáticas, demarcando as diferenças existentes entre proposições gramaticais e empíricas. Assim, pudemos analisar e, mesmo, tencionar as sugestões dos Referenciais Curriculares da RME, sublinhando algumas inclinações essencialistas destes documentos e realizando contrapontos, amparados pela filosofia wittgensteiniana. Desta forma, para que fosse possível este exercício, começamos com a apreensão/familiaridade das noções filosóficas propostas por L. Wittgenstein, na segunda fase de seu pensamento. No momento seguinte, analisamos os Referencias Curriculares da RME, com o intuito de pensarmos aquilo que denominamos de práticas curriculares e, que estão sendo realizadas nas instituições da RME, orientando e normatizando os modos de ser/agir de docentes e discentes. Assim, acreditamos que este trabalho, longe de ser uma pretenciosa tentativa de oferecer qualquer verdade, traz à luz das discussões as questões sobre as significações, sobrepondo-as ao pensamento metodológico. / This is a master’s thesis that presents a meaning production about curricular documents that guide Porto Alegre’s Municipal Education Network (RME). Its theoretical basis comes from philosophical formulations of Ludwig Wittgenstein, which served as discussions limits about meanings of mathematical objects suggested by RME Curriculum Frameworks. In the analytical course of our work, we have articulated language games notions with (normative) notion of practice, by the “follow rules” link. In a second moment, we have proposed a discussion about mathematical propositions character, marking differences between grammatical and empirical propositions. Thus, we were able to analyze and even consider suggestions of the RME Curriculum Frameworks, highlighting some essentialist inclinations of these documents and realizing counterpoints, supported by Wittgensteinian philosophy. Therefore, in order to this exercise to be possible, we have begun with an apprehension/familiarity of philosophical notions proposed by L. Wittgenstein in the second phase of his thinking. Afterwards, we have analyzed RME’s Curricular References, with the intention of thinking about what we call curricular practices and which ones are carried out in the RME institutions, orienting and normalizing the ways of teachers and students being/acting. So, we believe that this work, far from being a pretentious attempt to offer any truth, it shed light on significations questions’ discussions, overlapping them with methodological thinking.

La comprensión del otro en el pensamiento tardío de Wittgenstein

La pregunta que ha guiado esta investigación es qué es lo que significa comprender al otro. En busca de una posible respuesta me he centrado en las sugerentes ideas de la segunda etapa de Wittgenstein. La cuestión de la comprensión emerge de las críticas que hizo a la famosa obra La Rama dorada del antropólogo James Frazer. No obstante, no hay un desarrollo explícito de los elementos que están comprometidos en el fenómeno de la comprensión, por ello lo que intentaré hacer es esbozar una respuesta a la pregunta desde sus elucidaciones gramaticales y desde el espíritu de su obra. Mi respuesta a la pregunta es que comprender una creencia, una acción o un deseo extraño es encontrarle sentido y ello es posible cuando (I) somos capaces de ubicar esa creencia, una acción o un deseo en un contexto, en conexión con otras actividades, lo que se logra solo si compartimos una forma de vida y (II) a su vez logramos establecer un vínculo entre esos otros y nosotros. Para justificar la respuesta, dividí el trabajo en tres capítulos. El objetivo del primer capítulo es introducirnos al fenómeno de la comprensión. El capítulo dos está dedicado a defender la primera parte de la tesis: que para comprender una creencia es necesario compartir una forma de vida, lo que nos llevó al estudio de la naturaleza social y pragmática del lenguaje. El capítulo tres está dedicado a defender la segunda parte de la tesis, a saber, que para comprender al otro es necesario encontrar conexiones entre sus creencias y las mías; para ello nos centramos en la noción de “representaciones perspicuas”. La conclusión de este trabajo es que la comprensión no es un evento psicológico interno sino una experiencia anclada en la práctica que desborda las subjetividades de quienes participan en ella: una experiencia de integración y transformación. / Tesis
