Cykličnost a linearita času v českém jazykovém obrazu světa / Cyclical and Linear Time in the Czech Linguistic Picture of the World

Svašková, Jana January 2014 (has links)
I. Abstract The thesis deals with the concept of time and its conceptualisation in the Czech language. It is based on the theory of conceptual metaphor and the theory of linguistic worldview. Within the field of cognitive linguistics, the theory of conceptual metaphor is mainly applied in the identification of the source domains of metaphors used for language expression of the target domains. The first part of the thesis deals with the reflection of the "time" phenomenon, with its non- linguistic concept. Attention is paid to the concept of the cyclical and linear time. The second part aims to identify metaphors used in Czech for the expression of time relations and for the expression of the time phenomenon. The paper analyses the language plane in order to find such metaphors. It employs semantic and etymological analysis of words used when expressing the notion of time, i.e. nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, and interjections.

It moved me because it told a story of what it is to be human." : A quantitative study with a qualitative analysis on how television series can be used as a resource for personal meaning-making

Åhl, Rebecka January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how television series can function as a resource for existential reflection in peoples’ lives and thus, be a tool in the creation of a personal view on life. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate how television series can answer existential matters such as life, death, conflicts and finding peace.   The study was based on a survey which was answered by 82 informants and contained 42 questions in which 38 out of these concerned television series explicitly. 25 questions were closed multiple choice questions and 13 were open ended qualitative questions in which the informants were given the opportunity to give examples of different television series and reflect on these. Furthermore, the analysis was based on the reception theory which states that we as viewers are not apathetic to what we see, but reflect on it, both consciously and subconsciously. The results were analyzed from a theoretical framework which categorized the answers into seven different ways a viewer can relate to television series. The dimensions were the following: the contemplative dimension, the problem-solving dimension, the utopian dimension, the senso-motoric dimension, the ethical dimension, the philosophical-existential dimension and the self-reflexive dimension.   The results show that television series do function as a resource for existential reflection in the informants’ lives and can also be a resource for the construction of the informants’ personal view on life. Additionally, the results show that television series, although not always as explicitly, illustrate and provide answers for existential matters.

O narrador e seus duplos em Nenhum olhar e em Cemitério de pianos, de José Luís Peixoto / The narrator and his double in Nenhum olhar and Cemitério de pianos, by José Luís Peixoto

Suelotto, Kátia Cristina Franco de Medeiros 24 September 2012 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is the investigation of narrative focus on novels Nenhum olhar and Cemitério de pianos, by José Luís Peixoto, in order to defend the hypothesis that the first-person narrator promotes the assumption of doubles. Both works bring characters to tell their story and in the process of narration, get in touch with themselves, a perspective based on the deformations intrinsic to the passage of time. In this sense, the faculty of memory plays a key role in the relativization of the past. It is, firstly, an analysis of the level of expression. Concomitant with the question of the narrator and his double, we observed that the contents of both novels evoke the theme of the quest for salvation. We understand that the world view that permeates these works is based on the journey of Christ on Earth and in particular the drama of the Passion. Therefore we conclude that the desire of the first-person narrator to tell his story, are closely related to the phenomenon of the double and the denial of death. Thus, by duplicating the characters come into contact with supratemporal reality, founded on myth.

No. of bitstreams: 1 LUIS GABRIEL PROVINCIATTO.pdf: 2262189 bytes, checksum: e4422f63984b1efe2080cd566a2bd6c0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-12-12 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES / This research takes the Martin Heidegger?s thought (1889-1976) as the main theoretical source with the intention to show the following: the Christian religious phenomenon is a viable possibility to understand the characterization given by the German philosopher to the notion of factual experience of life. In this sense, the Christian experience is analyzed in its originating, whence the conception of original Christianity. Christianity itself, as a phenomenon, is an unique element in understanding the proper unfolding of the phenomenological path of Heidegger, especially in texts and lectures of the 1920s. Therefore, two concepts appear as fundamental to this research: "worldview" and "theology." The German philosopher characterizes both terms in the highlighted period. However, this characterization is within a phenomenological-hermeneutic movement, that is, try to understand both what is "world view" as it is "theology" in its essentiality, breaking with the metaphysical tradition. This makes it is stated: "worldview" and "theology" are based on experiential dimension of existence of being-there and both can be understood as a reflection of original Christianity, that is, as a possibility to understand the very believer existence of be there. It cans this be achieved with the aid of a phenomenological-hermeneutical method, able to understand the conceptual constructs developed by Heidegger and bring them together. So try to understand what the original Christianity is in its experiential dimension to be able to show that "worldview" and "theology" are possible consequences of such an experience. Nesse sentido, a experi?ncia crist?

No. of bitstreams: 1 Luiz Felipe Loureiro Foresti.pdf: 3462482 bytes, checksum: 59558d077bf47aaf973196f6a7468032 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-05-08 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation seeks to undertake through immanent analysis of its production a study regarding the speech of Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira, the founder of the Sociedade Brasileira de Defesa da Tradição, Família e Propriedade (TFP), from 1968 to 1976, the harshest period of the dictatorship started in 1964 in Brazil. Polemicist of vast production, Oliveira had since 1968 a weekly column in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, which served as a vehicle for spreading his ideas to a substantially larger audience than hitherto achieved by his writings. Before that, he has struggled since the 1930 s in order to set down a statement ruled by a Catholic thought of conservative bias able to reconfigure the society, and adapt it to the medieval way of life. However, in defense of these principles the author turns out to sanction the status quo conservation of the existing society. Inserted within this area of conservative thought, the author formulates judgments on major national and international issues of his time, denoting a unique and correct manner of action that would fit in his conception of Christian values.

Interpreting the Culture of Ubuntu: The Contribution of a Representative Indigenous African Ethics to Global Bioethics

Chuwa, Leonard T. 13 September 2014 (has links)
Ubuntu is a worldview and a way of life shared by most Africans south of Sahara. Basically Ubuntu underlines the often unrecognized role of relatedness and dependence of human individuality to other humans and the cosmos. The importance of relatedness to humanity is summarized by the two maxims of Ubuntu. The first is: a human being is human because of other human beings. The second maxim is an elaboration of the first. It goes; a human being is human because of the otherness of other human beings. John Mbiti combines those two maxims into, "I am because we are, and we are because I am." Ubuntu worldview can provide insights about relationships with communities and the world that contribute to the meaning of Global Bioethics. <br>Ubuntu can be described as involving several distinct yet related components that can be explored in relation to major strands of discourse in contemporary Bioethics. The first component of Ubuntu deals with the tension between individual and universal rights. The second component of Ubuntu deals with concerns about the cosmic and global context of life. The third component of Ubuntu deals with the role of solidarity that unites individuals and communities. Ubuntu has a lot in common with current discourse in bioethics. It can facilitate global bioethics. It can inspire the on-going dialogue about human dignity, human rights and the ethics that surround it. It can inspire and be inspired by global environmental concerns that threaten the biosphere and human life. Ubuntu can critique the formal bioethical principles of autonomy, justice, beneficence and non-maleficence. Above all, Ubuntu can create a basis for dialogue and mutually enlightening discourse between global bioethics and indigenous cultures. Such a dialogue helps make advancements in bioethics relevant to local indigenous cultures, thereby facilitating the acceptability and praxis of global bioethical principles. / McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts; / Philosophy / PhD / Dissertation;

Enligt fysiken eller enligt mig själv? : Gymnasieelever, fysiken och grundantaganden om världen

Hansson, Lena January 2007 (has links)
Students’ presuppositions about the world are studied, together with the presuppositions the students associate with physics. It is from the starting point of our presuppositions about what the world is like that we try to interpret and understand new phenomena that we meet, for example in science class. The thesis primarily focus on presuppositions usually taken for granted in science, and presuppositions that are of interest for the relationship between science and religion. A specific content area was chosen for the students reasoning in the empirical studies: the origin and development of the universe and existential questions related to that. The thesis builds upon two studies. In the first one students’ written answers and statements during interviews have been studied, and in the second one students’ groupdiscussions were studied. Students in both studies are in their last year of upper secondary school, and all of them study the course Physics B. The results show that there are students that describe their own view and the view of physics in different ways. This is valid both for questions about the origin and development of the universe, and for questions for example about the relationship between science and religion. The results also show that presuppositions that are usually taken for granted in physics, not necessarily are easily associated with physics by the students. This can make it hard for them to understand reasoning and models in physics. In addition to this the results also show that the students associate scientistic views with physics. Scientism states that nothing more than things that are in the realm of science exists. This exclude the possiblity that other dimensions than the material one exist. Associating physics with presuppositions that are not necessary for physics (for example scientistic views) can have consequences for students not sharing those views, i.e. they will have a harder time identifing themselves with physics. Perhaps they will choose not to study physics when given a choice.
