Knowledge Based Integrated Multidisciplinary Aircraft Conceptual DesignMunjulury, Venkata Raghu Chaitanya January 2014 (has links)
With the ever growing complexity of aircrafts, new tools and eventually methods to use these tools are needed in aircraft conceptual design. To reduce the development cost, an enhancement in the conceptual design is needed. This thesis presents a knowledge-based aircraft geometry design tool RAPID and the methodology applied in realizing the design. The parameters used to create a geometry need to be exchange between different tools. This is achieved by using a centralized database or onedata concept. One-database will enable creating a less number of cross connections between different tools to exchange data with one another. Different types of aircraft configurations can be obtained with less effort. As RAPID is developed based on relational design, any changes made to the geometric model will update automatically. The geometry model is carefully defined to carry over to the preliminary design. The validation of RAPID is done by implementing it in different aircraft design courses at Linköping University. In the aircraft project course, RAPID was effectively used and new features were added to the obtained desired design. Knowledge-base is used to realize the design performance for the geometry with an integrated database approach for a multidisciplinary aircraft conceptual design.

Developing Reusable iOS ComponentsGridina, Kateryna January 2013 (has links)
Companies often create apps in the same problem domain with similar features. Implementing these features over and over again is inefficient, time consuming, and error prone. This leads to high costs for the developing company and prices which are not competitive on the market. To address these problems we identify reusable features and implement them in a library which is well tested and allows frequent reuse. Features include navigation patterns, lists, menus, animated components, shared components, gallery and so on. With the help of these features programmers can easily create various applications with good design and functionality, reducing the time spent on development and allowing competitive prices for related services and products.

Seshat : A sync system for Audiobooks and eBooksDervisevic, Adnan, Oskarsson, Tobias January 2014 (has links)
In this degree project we present a way to construct a synchronization system that is able to create a timings file, which is the file the system uses to know how to sync the eBook and audiobook, using speech recognition and estimation algorithms. This file is then used by the system to let the user select a sentence and have the audiobook start reading from that sentence, or vice versa. This system can create these files with a mean offset from a manu-ally timed file which is within our expectations for the system. We use estimation algorithms to fill in the blanks where the speech recognition falls short. Speech recognition accuracy is typically between 40-60%, sometimes dipping lower, so there are blanks to fill in. Using basic algebraic principles of calculating velocity we can ex-trapolate the speed of a reader, using the duration of the audiobook as the time and the amount of characters written as the distance. For increased accuracy we derive this value on a per-chapter basis. Using this method we are able to create accurate files, which the user can use to freely sync any location in the book. Our system is designed to work for any book in the world that does not have an audiobook which cuts off between sentences in the audio files. We manually create timings files for four different books with widely varying publishing dates, author styles, reader style and gender to create as wide and representative a testing pool as possible for the project

Web draudimo sistemų projektavimas ir kūrimas / Web insurance systems design and developmentPtak, Jelena 01 July 2014 (has links)
The key concept of the research proposed by the paper is to analyze the processes of Web insurance information system design and development. Assessing the impact of XML/EDI with real option valuationVoshmgir, Shermin 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Hitherto the diffusion of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has been limited due to high implementation and operational costs. On the other hand, the Extensible Markup Language (XML) has quickly become a generally accepted standard for integrating processing of formatted data - the literature is virtually unanimous that an integration of EDI into XML would make EDI more accessible and implementation faster and cheaper. The process of standardization of various EDI standard formats over XML is still underway and the question arises whether an early adoption of the technology would pay off. This thesis investigates the issue using real-options methodology. Starting from the well-known Black-Scholes model the parameters of the model are operationalized to decide about the best adoption timing: (i) project costs of implementation, (ii) value of savings of the project (substitutional, complementary, and strategic benefits), and (iii) project risk, expressed as the variance used in Black-Scholes. The latter considers both the external autonomy of the player in implementing new technology and internal properties in technology adoption. Discussing the technological properties of XML/EDI above parameters are operationalized step by step and integrated into a decision model to help each individual firm put the XML/EDI investment decision into real numbers. In order to better visualize the parameters of this decision framework, four company profiles, based on the theory of technology diffusion, will be introduced and mapped against the parameters of the Black-Scholes formula. Formulating Evaluation Measures for Structured Document Retrieval using Extended Structural RelevanceAli, Mir Sadek 06 December 2012 (has links)
Structured document retrieval (SDR) systems minimize the effort users spend to locate relevant information by retrieving sub-documents (i.e., parts of, as opposed to
entire, documents) to focus the user's attention on the relevant parts of a retrieved document. SDR search tasks are differentiated by the multiplicity of ways that users prefer to spend effort and gain relevant information in SDR. The sub-document retrieval paradigm has required researchers to undertake costly user studies to validate whether new IR measures, based on gain and effort, accurately capture IR performance.
We propose the Extended Structural Relevance (ESR) framework as a way, akin to classical set-based measures, to formulate SDR measures that share the common basis
of our proposed pillars of SDR evaluation: relevance, navigation and redundancy. Our
experimental results show how ESR provides a flexible way to formulate measures, and
addresses the challenge of testing measures across related search tasks by replacing costly user studies with low-cost simulation.

Distributed XML Query ProcessingKling, Patrick January 2012 (has links)
While centralized query processing over collections of XML data stored at a single site is a well understood problem,
centralized query evaluation techniques are inherently limited in their scalability when presented
with large collections (or a single, large document) and heavy query workloads.
In the context of relational query processing,
similar scalability challenges have been overcome by partitioning data collections,
distributing them across the sites of a distributed system, and then
evaluating queries in a distributed fashion, usually in a way that ensures locality between
(sub-)queries and their relevant data.
This thesis presents a suite of query evaluation techniques for XML data that follow a similar
approach to address the scalability problems encountered by XML query evaluation.
Due to the significant differences in data and query models between relational and XML query
processing, it is not possible to directly apply distributed query evaluation techniques designed
for relational data to the XML scenario.
Instead, new distributed query evaluation
techniques need to be developed.
Thus, in this thesis, an end-to-end solution to the scalability problems encountered by XML query
processing is proposed.
Based on a data partitioning model that supports both horizontal and vertical
fragmentation steps (or any combination of the two), XML collections are fragmented and distributed
across the sites of a distributed system.
Then, a suite of distributed query evaluation strategies is
proposed. These query evaluation techniques ensure locality between each fragment of the collection and
the parts of the query corresponding to the data in this fragment. Special attention is paid to
scalability and query performance, which is achieved by ensuring a high degree of parallelism
during distributed query evaluation and by avoiding access to irrelevant portions of the data.
For maximum flexibility, the suite of distributed query evaluation techniques proposed in this thesis provides
several alternative approaches
for evaluating a given query over a given distributed collection. Thus, to achieve the best performance, it is
necessary to predict and compare the expected performance of each of these alternatives. In this
work, this is accomplished through a query optimization technique based on a
distribution-aware cost model. The same cost model is also used to fine-tune the way a collection is
fragmented to the demands of the query workload evaluated over this collection.
To evaluate the performance impact of the distributed query evaluation techniques proposed in this
thesis, the techniques were implemented within
a production-quality XML database system. Based on this implementation, a
thorough experimental evaluation was performed. The results of this evaluation confirm that the distributed query evaluation
techniques introduced here lead to significant improvements in query performance and scalability
both when compared to centralized techniques and when compared to existing distributed query
evaluation techniques.
