XML-based frameworks for Internet commerce and an implementation of B2B e-procurement

It is not easy to apply XML in e-commerce development for achieving interoperability in heterogeneous environments. One of the reasons is a multitude of XML-based Frameworks for Internet Commerce (XFIC), or industrial standards. This thesis surveys 15 frameworks, i.e., ebXML, eCo Framework, UDDI, SOAP, BizTalk, cXML, ICE, Open Applications Group, RosettaNet, Wf-XML, OFX, VoiceXML, RDF, WSDL and xCBL. This thesis provides three models to systematically understand how the 15 frameworks meet the requirements of e-commerce. A hierarchical model is presented to show the purpose and focus of various XFIC initiatives. A relationship model is given to show the cooperative and competitive relationships between XFIC. A chronological model is provided to look at the development of XFIC. In addition, the thesis offers guidelines for how to apply XFIC in an e-commerce development. We have also implemented a B2B e-procurement system. That not only demonstrates the feasibility of opensource or freeware, but also validates the complementary roles of XML and Java: XML is for describing contents and Java is for automating XML documents (session handling). Auction-based dynamic pricing is also realized as a feature of interest. Denna rapport syftar till att hitta en metod för effektivare felsökning av Cisco Nexus 3000 switchar. Företag utvecklas ständigt och behovet av flera nätverksenheter ökar, dock har metoder för felsökningen av nätverksenheter inte standardiserats. Den gamla metoden genom kommandorad där enskilda nätverksenheter granskas en i taget är inte längre lämplig i dagens IT-företag när antalet nätverksenheter uppgår till flera tiotusen. Rapporten görs i samarbete med IT-företaget Conscia.  Metoden baseras på en simulering och en testuppkoppling med hjälp av nätverkshanteringsprotokollet NETCONF genom Python-biblioteket Ncclient. Resultatet bestod av flera parametrar och faktorer som kan indikera en förändring i nätverksenheten. Detta har resulterat i en metod som ger information om olika parametervärden och faktorer, vilket ger nätverksadministratören en klarare bild kring switchens tillstånd. Metoden har lett till effektivare felsökning av Cisco Nexus 3000 vid inträffandet av nätverksincidenter. / This report aims to find a method for more efficient troubleshooting of Cisco Nexus 3000 switches. Companies are constantly developing and the need for multiple network devices is increasing, however, methods for troubleshooting network devices have not been standardized. The old method through the command line interface where individual network devices are reviewed one at a time is no longer suitable in today's IT companies when the number of network devices amounts to several tens of thousands. The report is made in collaboration with the IT company Conscia. The method is based on a simulation and a test connection using the network management protocol NETCONF through the Python library Ncclient. The result consisted of several parameters and factors that may indicate a change in the network device. This has resulted in a method that provides information on various parameter values and factors, which gives the network administrator a clearer picture of the state of the switch. The method has led to more efficient troubleshooting of the Cisco Nexus 3000 when network incidents occur.

Technologies for teaching mathematics via the World Wide Web

Published Article / This paper tries to find answers to the question concerning the availability of suitable technologies to accommodate the teaching and learning of mathematics by means of the World Wide Web. It addresses three standards for the presentation of content mark-up and touches on the importance of adequate browser applicability with respect to MathML as one of the standards. Various tools for rendering MathML on the web, as well as plug-ins and extensions, and other combinations of technologies, are discussed. The paper concludes with the introduction of a dynamic mathematics object model (DMOM) by Robert Miner from Design Science Inc. Requirements for a DMOM are formulated and its implementation is discussed. An alternative to the use of MathML is provided at the end in the form of the Blackboard Learning System.

ONTOLOGY-DRIVEN TRANSLATOR GENERATOR FOR DATA DISPLAY CONFIGURATIONS

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / This paper presents a new approach for the effective generation of translator scripts that can be used to automate the translation of data display configurations from one vendor format to another. Our approach uses the IDEF5 ontology description method to capture the ontology of each vendor format and provides simple rules for performing mappings. In addition, the method includes the specification of mappings between a language-specific ontology and its corresponding syntax specification, that is, either an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) Schema or Document Type Description (DTD). Finally, we provide an algorithm for automatically generating eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) scripts that transform XML documents from one language to another. The method is implemented in a graphical tool called the Data Display Translator Generator (DDTG) that supports both inter-language (ontology-to-ontology) and intra-language (syntax-to-ontology) mappings and generates the XSLT scripts. The tool renders the XML Schema or DTD as trees, provides intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for performing the mappings, and provides a report of completed mappings. It also generates data type conversion code when both the source and target syntaxes are XML Schema-based. Our approach has the advantage of performing language mappings at an abstract, ontology level, and facilitates the mapping of tool ontologies to a common domain ontology (in our case, Data Display Markup Language or DDML), thereby eliminating the O(n^2) mapping problem that involves a number of data formats in the same domain.

Bulk Creation of Data Acquisition Parameters

The most time consuming aspect of configuring a data acquisition system is defining the measurements that the system will collect. Each measurement has to be uniquely identified in the system and the system needs to know what data the measurement will sample. Data acquisition systems are capable of sampling thousands of measurements in a single test flight. If all of the measurements are created by hand, it can take many hours to input all of the required measurements into the data acquisition system's setup software. This process can also be extremely tedious since many measurements are very similar. This paper will examine several possible solutions to the problem of rapidly creating large numbers of data acquisition measurements. If the list of measurements that need to be created already exists in an electronic format then the simplest approach would be to create an importer. The two main ways to import data are XML and comma separated value files. This paper will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches. In addition to importers, this paper will discuss a system that can be used to create large numbers of similar measurements very quickly. This system is ideally suited to MILSTD- 1553 and ARINC-429 bus data. It exploits the fact that most bus measurements are typically very similar to each other. For example, 1553 measurements typically differ only in terms of the command word and the selected data words. This system allows the user to specify ranges of data words for each command word. It can then create the measurements based on the user specified ranges.

REVEAL is an ongoing project at NASA Dryden to evaluate the feasibility and benefits of using Linux in a modern generic web-enabled data system for measurement and telemetry network research, by actually building such a system. Novel features are described, such as XML based self-configuring, self-verifying and self-documenting software, and automatic XML metadata generation. The REVEAL architecture is described, including the core server and scheduler, and the management of system and user job processing. Performance, timing, determinism, and security issues are discussed, as well as the advantages and limitations of Linux.

Managing Instrumentation Networks

Today, most flight test programs are supported by traditional instrumentation systems and software. Pockets of network-based systems exist but are typically entirely new, closed systems. Relatively soon, test articles will emerge with a mixture of equipment. The merger of traditional and networked instrumentation is inevitable. Bridging the gap in software tools is a non-trivial task. Network-based data acquisition systems provide expanded flexibility and capabilities well beyond traditional systems. Yet pre-existing equipment requires traditional configuration and analysis tools. Traditional flight test software alone cannot fully exploit the added benefits gained from such mergers. The need exists for a new type of flight test software that handles existing instrumentation while also providing additional features to manage a network of devices. Network management is new to flight test software but a thoughtful implementation can facilitate easy transition to these modern systems. This paper explores the technologies required to satisfy traditional system configuration as well as the less understood aspects of network management and analysis. Examples of software that meet or exceed these requirements are provided.

Given a multivendor instrument part catalog that contains sensor, actuator, transducer and other instrument data; user requirements (including desired measurement functions) and technical specifications; the instrumentation network configurator will select and connect instruments from the catalog that meet the requirements and technical specifications. The instrumentation network configurator will enable the goal of mixing and matching hardware from multiple vendors to develop robust solutions and to reduce the total cost of ownership for creating and maintaining test instrumentation networks.

MEASUREMENT-CENTRIC DATA MODEL FOR INSTRUMENTATION CONFIGURATION

In the past these programs have been constrained by vendor proprietary equipment configuration utilities that force a significant learning curve on the part of instrumentation personnel to understand hardware idiosyncrasies and require significant human interaction and manipulation of data to be exchanged between different components of the end-to-end test system. This paper describes an ongoing effort to develop a measurement-centric data model of airborne data acquisition systems. The motivation for developing such a model is to facilitate hardware and software interoperability and to alleviate the need for vendor-specific knowledge on the part of the instrumentation engineer. This goal is driven by requirements derived from scenarios collected by the iNET program. This approach also holds the promise of decreased human interaction with and manipulation of data to be exchanged between system components.
