The Suburb United Will Never Be Defeated : Youth Organization, Belonging, and Protest in a Million Program Suburb of Stockholm

Lazoroska, Daniela January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the continually reconfiguring response of a youth organization towards a renovation project, Järvalyftet, run by the City of Stockholm in the Million Program suburbs. By analyzing this relationship, I aim to discuss how the youth organization works to mediate inclusion in political and representational spheres. More specifically, I will discuss the intersections between Järvalyftet’s development and the claims of belonging made by the youths upon the particular suburb, Husby, where they resided. My interest lies in understanding the conjuncture and disjuncture of claims that have been made to community, locality, and local knowledge in the interaction between the youth organization and the project Järvalyftet. I argue that the forms of community instigated by the youth organization, which were based on locality and “blackness”, allowed them to position themselves as key proponents of social and political change, as well as mobilize allies in others who identified with those experiences.

Building communism : the Young Communist League during the Soviet thaw period, 1953-1964

Uhl, Katharina Barbara January 2014 (has links)
The present study focuses on the activity of the Young Communist League (Komsomol) to promote the communist project during the so-called Thaw period in the Soviet Union (1953-1964). The term ‘communist project’ describes the complex temporal triangle in which the relevance of the present was rooted in its relationship to the heroic past and the bright future. Young people were supposed to emulate the heroism of previous generations while fighting remnants of the undesired past. This was presented as a precondition for achieving the communist future. The structure of this study reflects the chronology of the communist project. It analyzes the rhetoric used by the Young Communist League to promote the communist project and explores the strategies used to mobilize youth for building communism. The first chapter focuses on the organizational structure of the Komsomol and assesses its readiness for this task. Despite attempts to strengthen horizontal communication and control, streamline administration and reorganize its structure, the Komsomol remained hierarchal and bureaucratic. The second chapter explores the promotion of past heroism in rituals, social practices and the use of public space. The third chapter is also concerned with the past; it describes the Komsomol’s fight against ‘remnants of the past’, primarily religion and deviant behaviour such as hooliganism, heavy drinking and laziness. The final chapter focuses on the Komsomol’s attempts during the Thaw to bring about the future: its efforts in the economy, moral, political and cultural education, and the realm of leisure.

Fixar du fikat? : En studie av arbetsfördelning, jämställdhet och karriär i Centerpartiet

Molander, Matilda January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to explore how the gendered allocation of tasks within political parties influences the career path for male and female politicians through a case study of the Swedish Center party. A gendered allocation of tasks has earlier been observed in the context of academia and business, where women tend to perform more tasks with low promotability and men more tasks with high promotability. According to the existing research, this contributes to the enduring work place inequality. A survey was conducted among leading politicians in the Center party to determine which tasks have high and low promotability. A parallel survey was then administered among members of the party’s youth organization to determine which tasks male and female members perform. The results show that men are significantly more interested than women in pursuing a political career and perform a significantly larger amount of tasks. The study provides no evidence that female members of the Center party youth organization in general perform more tasks with low promotability than their male colleagues, and more research is required to determine if and why that is so.

Björklund, Elin, Hansson, Linnea January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the study was to describe experiences among individuals who previously have participated in Rapatac and current co-workers at Rapatac regarding what a participation in the youth organization can mean for the individuals school situation, social network and health. Mládežnické struktury při Dělnické straně sociální spravedlnosti a Komunistické straně Čech a Moravy / Youth Organizations of the Worker's party of Social Justice and the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia

Dytrych, Martin January 2013 (has links)
The Diploma thesis focuses on youth structures that profess to the largest far-right and far-left parties representatives in the Czech Republic. In the far-right milieu it is the Worker's Party Youth, who are closely associated with the Worker's party of Social Justice. On the far-left side of the spektrum, there are formally two entities, that profess to the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia: the Communist Youth Union and the Union of Young Communists of Czechoslovakia. The aim of this thesis is to clarify the extent of real interdependence of these civic associations with a political party, and on the other side, to examine their political extremism level, both in theory and also in the terms of security forces. The thesis further explores to what extent, therefore, these entities are a real threat to the existing democratic system in the Czech Republic.
