Investigação cinética de modos geodésicos de baixas frequências em plasmas magnetizados / Kinetic investigation of low frequency geodesic modes in magnetized plasmas

Reneé Jordashe Franco Sgalla 29 July 2014 (has links)
Due to the important role in drift wave turbulence and applications for plasma diagnostic purposes, the investigation of zonal flows (ZF) and associated geodesic acoustic modes (GAM) has arisen much attention in the plasma physics literature. In this thesis, first we consider equilibrium poloidal and toroidal rotation effects on these modes using the ideal MHD model, then we investigate diamagnetic effects on GAM using a two fluid model that includes parallel ion viscosity, and, in the final step, we include both Landau damping and diamagnetic effects on the study of GAM within the framework of the gyrokinetic model. By diamagnetic effects we mean the density and temperature radial gradients terms coming from the equilibrium Maxwellian distribution function. The effects caused by the coupling between the $m = \\pm1$ poloidal harmonics and the radial derivatives of equilibrium macroscopic quantities are responsible for an increase in the frequency value of the high frequency GAM and for an instability in the low frequency GAM. This instability, which is proportional to the electron drift frequency and the ratio between ion temperature and density gradients, are more likely to occur in radial positions where the safety factor is high. We observe that geodesic modes are slowly damped by a collisionlees mechanism known as Landau damping which is caused by the wave particle interaction between the eletrostatic potential and the íons. This damping is enhanced near the center of the plasma column, where the safety factor has lower values. Equilibrium MHD with plasma rotation were investigated in three regimes regarding the magnetic surfaces: isotherm, adiabatic and isometric. It is found that the temperature gradient has opposite directions compared to the poloidal rotation only for the isometric regime. By considering equilibrium rotation with isotherm magnetic surfaces and including heat flux we observed that ZF has a non-zero frequency which is proportional to the poloidal velocity and the inverse of the safety factor. For future directions we point out that electromagnetic effects, geodesic eigenmodes and trapped particles physics should be important for the development of the ZF and GAM physics, either in the area of anomalous transport caused by drift wave turbulence or for diagnostic purposes for obtaining the radial profile of the ion temperature and the safety factor. In this area, a new kind of diagnostic known as geodesic acoustic mode spectroscopy is being developing based on the study of eigenmodes.

Timing Analysis in Software Development

Däumler, Martin 31 March 2008 (has links)
Rapid development processes and higher customer requirements lead to increasing integration of software solutions in the automotive industry’s products. Today, several electronic control units communicate by bus systems like CAN and provide computation of complex algorithms. This increasingly requires a controlled timing behavior. The following diploma thesis investigates how the timing analysis tool SymTA/S can be used in the software development process of the ZF Friedrichshafen AG.Within the scope of several scenarios, the benefits of using it, the difficulties in using it and the questions that can not be answered by the timing analysis tool are examined. Schémas de décodage MIMO à Complexité Réduite

Salah, Abdellatif 12 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)

Role of AMPK in the Upregulation of Steroidogenic Acute Regulatory Protein in the Zona Fasciculata of the Adrenal Cortex

Dayton, Adam Wesley 10 August 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Cortisol is a glucocorticoid produced by the zona fasciculata (ZF) of the adrenal cortex. Traditionally, cortisol production and release was seen as being regulated strictly by adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). While this is true of baseline cortisol levels and in response to acute mental stress, the picture is somewhat more complicated in other situations.Interleukin-6 (IL-6) contributes to the maintenance of cortisol levels in situations of prolonged immune or inflammatory stress. AMP activated protein kinase (AMPK) was investigated as a possible mediator of the action of IL-6 or as an independent actor in raising cortisol levels in response to hypoxemic or hypoglycemic stress.5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide 1-b-D-ribofuranoside (AICAR) was used to activate AMPK. Bovine ZF tissue fragments were exposed to AICAR alone and together with a known AMPK inhibitor, compound C. Protein or mRNA was then extracted from these tissue fragments. As an indicator of overall steroidogenic activity, these extracts were tested using RT-PCR and western blot assays for relative protein and mRNA levels of steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein, steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1), and dosage sensitive sex reversal adrenal hypoplasia congenita gene on the X chromosome, gene 1 (DAX-1). Also a reporter gene assay was performed on H295R cells with a transfected StAR promoter. In bovine ZF tissue fragments, AICAR caused a significant increase of StAR protein and mRNA and SF-1 protein with a decrease of DAX-1 protein in a dose and time dependant manner. DAX-1 mRNA was shown to decrease in response to AICAR administration in a dose dependant manner. AICAR induced increases in StAR protein and SF-1 protein, and the attendant decrease in DAX-1 protein were all shown to be reduced by administration of compound C. This demonstrated that in this situation AICAR is acting through AMPK. When IL-6 was given with compound C the levels of StAR, SF-1, and DAX-1 were significantly reduced from samples treated with IL-6 alone. AICAR exposure also increased StAR promoter activity in a dose and time dependant manner. This AMPK induced increase in steroidogenic activity provides a possible mechanism for increased cortisol during hypoxia and hypoglycemia, and a possible mediator for IL-6 in the ZF.

A Conjugate Residual Solver with Kernel Fusion for massive MIMO Detection

Broumas, Ioannis January 2023 (has links)
This thesis presents a comparison of a GPU implementation of the Conjugate Residual method as a sequence of generic library kernels against implementations ofthe method with custom kernels to expose the performance gains of a keyoptimization strategy, kernel fusion, for memory-bound operations which is to makeefficient reuse of the processed data. For massive MIMO the iterative solver is to be employed at the linear detection stageto overcome the computational bottleneck of the matrix inversion required in theequalization process, which is 𝒪(𝑛3) for direct solvers. A detailed analysis of howone more of the Krylov subspace methods that is feasible for massive MIMO can beimplemented on a GPU as a unified kernel is given. Further, to show that kernel fusion can improve the execution performance not onlywhen the input data is large matrices-vectors as in scientific computing but also inthe case of massive MIMO and possibly similar cases where the input data is a largenumber of small matrices-vectors that must be processed in parallel. In more details, focusing on the small number of iterations required for the solver toachieve a close enough approximation of the exact solution in the case of massiveMIMO, and the case where the number of users matches the size of a warp, twodifferent approaches that allow to fully unroll the algorithm and gradually fuse allthe separate kernels into a single, until reaching a top-down hardcodedimplementation are proposed and tested. Targeting to overcome the algorithms computational burden which is the matrixvector product, further optimization techniques such as two ways to utilize the faston-chip memories, preloading the matrix in shared memory and preloading thevector in shared memory, are tested and proposed to achieve high efficiency andhigh parallelism.

MIMO discrete wavelet transform for the next generation wireless systems

Asif, Rameez, Ghazaany, Tahereh S., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Noras, James M., Jones, Steven M.R., Rodriguez, Jonathan, See, Chan H. January 2013 (has links)
No / Study is presented into the performance of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and MIMO-DWT with transmit beamforming. Feedback loop has been used between the equalizer at the transmitter to the receiver which provided the channel state information which was then used to construct a steering matrix for the transmission sequence such that the received signals at the transmitter can be combined constructively in order to provide a reliable and improved system for next generation wireless systems. As convolution in time domain equals multiplication in frequency domain no such counterpart exist for the symbols in space, means linear convolution and Intersymbol Interference (ISI) generation so both zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean squared error (MMSE) equalizations have been employed. The results show superior performance improvement and in addition allow keeping the processing, power and implementation cost at the transmitter which has less constraints and the results also show that both equalization algorithms perform alike in wavelets and the ISI is spread equally between different wavelet domains.

Kassem, Edward January 2019 (has links)
Tato práce je rozdělena do šesti kapitol. První kapitola vysvětluje rozdíly mezi fyzickou vrstvou uplinků systémů LTE a LTE Advanced, zkoumá charakteristiky kanálu komunikace D2D v rámci sítě LTE Advanced, a navrhuje mechanismy optimalizace interferencí. Druhá kapitola hodnotí a porovnává výkony uplinkové části fyzické vrstvy systému LTE a LTE Advanced. Šestá kapitola uzavírá tezi a shrnuje závěry.

Desilets-Benoit, Alexandre 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis is divided in three sections. The first section presents the results from a small angle neutron scattering (SANS) investigation of the formation of bound magnetic polarons in the ferromagnet EuB6. While the magnetic nature of the system was observed below 15K, we could not resolve the q dependent signature of the polarons, thus putting a lower limit of 100\AA to the coherence length of the phenomenon (xi_{Lower}). Secondly, we investigated the non-centrosymmetric superconductor LaRhSi3 by muSR. The absence of an internal field below T_c = 2.2 K in ZF-muSR, indicates that the superconducting wave function does not carry an intrinsic magnetic moment. The asymmetry spectrum taken under external magnetic field shows the magnetic signature associated with vortices between H_{c1}(0) and H_{c2}(0), respectively 80 +/- 5 and 169.0 +/- 0.5 G, suggesting the system is weakly type-II. Finally, the third section presents the zero field muSR study of internal magnetic fields in the organic antiferromagnet NIT-2Py. The temperature dependent oscillating signal in the ZF-muSR spectrum confirms the presence of a long-range magnetic interaction between the molecules. By comparing the measured internal magnetic fields to calculated values based on density fonctional theory calculations, we confirm that half the molecules dimerizes while the other half forms the antiferromagnetic order under the critical temperature (T_c = 1.33 +/- 0.01K). In this antiferromagnetic order, the moments on the magnetic molecules are uniformly aligned along the (1 0 -2) axis. They interact antiferromagnetically along the (0 1 0) axis and ferromagnetically between the [-1 0 2] planes.

The Application of Multiuser Detection to Spectrally Efficient MIMO or Virtual MIMO SC-FDMA Uplinks in LTE Systems.

Ben Salem, Aymen 20 December 2013 (has links)
Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) is a multiple access transmission scheme that has been adopted in the 4th generation 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) of cellular systems. In fact, its relatively low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) makes it ideal for the uplink transmission where the transmit power efficiency is of paramount importance. Multiple access among users is made possible by assigning different users to different sets of non-overlapping subcarriers. With the current LTE specifications, if an SC-FDMA system is operating at its full capacity and a new user requests channel access, the system redistributes the subcarriers in such a way that it can accommodate all of the users. Having less subcarriers for transmission, every user has to increase its modulation order (for example from QPSK to 16QAM) in order to keep the same transmission rate. However, increasing the modulation order is not always possible in practice and may introduce considerable complexity to the system. The technique presented in this thesis report describes a new way of adding more users to an SC-FDMA system by assigning the same sets of subcarriers to different users. The main advantage of this technique is that it allows the system to accommodate more users than conventional SC-FDMA and this corresponds to increasing the spectral efficiency without requiring a higher modulation order or using more bandwidth. During this work, special attentions wee paid to the cases where two and three source signals are being transmitted on the same set of subcarriers, which leads respectively to doubling and tripling the spectral efficiency. Simulation results show that by using the proposed technique, it is possible to add more users to any SC-FDMA system without increasing the bandwidth or the modulation order while keeping the same performance in terms of bit error rate (BER) as the conventional SC-FDMA. This is realized by slightly increasing the energy per bit to noise power spectral density ratio (Eb/N0) at the transmitters.
