Adriano Seiko Komesu 10 April 2015 (has links)
This work deals with the Flow Shop scheduling problem. / Antitrust and Internet new business. Anticompetitive conducts or regular exercise of economic power?

Saito, Leandro 15 April 2016 (has links)
The deep changes brought by the information society, especially the rising of the Internet, caused an enormous impact over human interactions, changing the way people relate and the way people consume goods and services. As a consequence of this new reality, services provided by web based companies emerged. Some characteristics of those new markets, such as the use of multiple side platforms, the intensive use of new technologies, the existence of network effects or network externalities, the connection of distinct services, the offer of zero price services and the deep connection between the services, challenge traditional concepts of antitrust law, like relevant market, market power and tying. Therefore, traditional antitrust analysis and its theoretical foundations must be reviewed, considering the particularities of those markets. The main objective of this study is to analyze the conduct control on these new Internet sectors, considering its economic particularities and the consequences of these view on antitrust analysis.

Adjusting for covariates in zero-inflated gamma and zero-inflated log-normal models for semicontinuous data

Mills, Elizabeth Dastrup 01 May 2013 (has links)
Semicontinuous data consist of a combination of a point-mass at zero and a positive skewed distribution. This type of non-negative data distribution is found in data from many fields, but presents unique challenges for analysis. Specifically, these data cannot be analyzed using positive distributions, but distributions that are unbounded are also likely a poor fit. Two-part models incorporate both the zero values from semicontinuous data and the positive continuous values. In this dissertation, we compare zero-inflated gamma (ZIG) and zero-inflated log-normal (ZILN) two-part models. For both of these models, the probability that an outcome is non-zero is modeled via logistic regression. Then the distribution of the non-zero outcomes is modeled via gamma regression with a log-link for ZIG regression and via log-normal regression for ZILN. In this dissertation we propose tests which combine the two parts of the ZIG and ZILN models in meaningful ways for performing a two group comparison. Then we compare these tests in terms of observed Type 1 error rates and power levels under both correctly specified and misspecified ZIG and ZILN models. Tests falling under two main hypotheses are examined. First, we look at two-part tests which come from a two-part hypothesis of no difference between the two groups in terms of the probability of non-zero values and in terms of the the mean of the non-zero values. The second type of tests are mean-based tests. These combine the two parts of the model in ways related to the overall group means of the semicontinuous variable. When not adjusting for covariates, two tests are developed based on a difference of means (DM) and a ratio of means (RM). When adjusting for covariates, tests using mean-based hypotheses are developed which marginalize over the values of the adjusting covariates. Under the adjusting framework, two ratio of means statistics are proposed and examined, an average of the subject specific ratio of means (RMSS) and a ratio of the marginal group means (RMMAR). Simulations are used to compare Type 1 error and power for these tests and standard two group comparison tests. Simulation results show that when ZIG and ZILN models are misspecified and the coefficient of variation (CoV) and/or sample size is large, there are differences in Type 1 error and power results between the misspecified and correctly specified models. Specifically, when ZILN data with high CoV or sample size are analyzed as ZIG, Type 1 error rates are prohibitively high. On the other hand, when ZIG data are analyzed as ZILN under these scenarios, power levels are much lower for ZILN analyses than for ZIG analyses. Examination of Q-Q plots show, however, that in these settings, distinguishing between ZIG and ZILN data can be relatively straightforward. When the coefficient of variation is small it is harder to distinguish between ZIG and ZILN models, but the differences between Type 1 error rates and power levels for misspecified or correctly specified models is also slight. Finally, we use the proposed methods to analyze a data set involving Parkinson's disease (PD) and driving. A number of these methods show that PD subjects exhibit poorer lane keeping ability than control subjects.

Series Resonant Inverter for Multiple LED Lamps

Chang, Yun-Hao 30 July 2010 (has links)
This thesis proposes a high efficiency driving circuit for multiple light emitting diode (LED) lamps with dimming feature. The driving circuit consists of essentially a high-frequency half-bridge series resonant inverter with multiple output transformers, on which primary windings are connected in series, while secondary sides are loaded by LED lamps rated at different powers with different turn ratios. By controlling the frequency of the inverter, the resonant current as well as the lamp current can be regulated simultaneously. On the other hand, the LED lamps can be dimmed individually by the associated dimming switches with integral cycle control. The tactful circuit ensures a high circuit efficiency owing to less conducting losses and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation of the active power switches of the inverter and zero current switching (ZCS) operation of the dimming switches. Two prototype circuits designed for 60 W three RGB LED lamps and 50 W five white light LED lamps have been built and tested to verify the analytical predictions. Experimental results demonstrate that the driving circuit can operate the LED lamps at a high efficiency with a wide dimming range. The lamp power can be dimmed to 10% with frequency control, while whole dimming range can be achieved with integral cycle control. The circuit efficiency with integral cycle control is relatively higher than that with frequency control. The measured efficiencies for the two designed circuit are 93% and 90%, respectively, under the rated powers.

Dimmable Electronic Ballast for Multiple Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps

Chen, Sheng-Hui 25 July 2011 (has links)
A high-frequency half-bridge series resonant inverter with multiple output transformers is developed for driving multiple cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) with dimming feature. The primary sides of the transformers are connected in series with the resonant inverter to have an identical current, while the secondary sides are loaded by CCFLs with galvanic isolation to each other. To ensure a high circuit efficiency, the active power switches of the inverter are designed to be switched on at zero voltage. The resonant current of the inverter can be regulated by controlling the switching frequency of the inverter, so that all CCFLs can be dimmed simultaneously. On the other hand, the primary sides of the output transformers are associated with parallel switches to dim the CCFLs individually. These dimming switches are operated at a low frequency by integral cycle control with zero current switching (ZCS) to reduce the switching losses. The resonant circuit is tactfully designed to alleviate the variation of the resonant current caused by the switching of dimming switches. A laboratory circuit is built for driving 5 CCFLs. The intended circuit performances are confirmed by test results. The variation of the resonant current is less than 10% when the dimming switches are switching, and the measured efficiency for the circuit is 96.15% under the rated powers.

PWM/PFM Mixed Modulation Controller for Twin-Buck Converter

Fan, Bo-Wen 09 October 2012 (has links)
In the thesis, we apply the state average method to model the time-average linear dynamic equation, which is used to design a gain scheduled linear quadratic optimal controller. Because the standard modulation method of the twin-buck converter is PFM(Pulse-Frequency Modulation) and twin-buck converter owns the soft-switching characteristic, the voltage step-down ratio, that is, control force can not be lowered less than 0.5. For expanding the range of control force of converter, we modulate the converter by means of mixed modulation of PWM/PFM. With the former odulation method, we have to calculate the discharging time of synchronous switch taken by controller to achieve zero-voltage-transition (ZVT). In the last part of this thesis, we verify the practicability of the controller and modulation method through soft simulation coded by MATLAB and hardware implementation of FPGA driven by Verilog.

The accelerated development of power electronics has promoted a series of changes in the electrical system, so it is possible to highlight the constant changing of consumer loads, the proliferation of co-generation and the growing importance of environmental issues related to generation. Much of the current loads are composed of non-linear devices which, in many cases are the cause of problems related to power quality. Considering the sequential distribution variety of harmonic currents in the use of passive filters, highlight the electromagnetic filters and blockers, which have received special attention due to its robustness and low cost of deployment. This work is particularly directed to investigations related to the use of these devices which enable an attenuation of the flow of the principal harmonic components that compound the zero-sequence harmonic distortion. In this context, this work presents unedited contributions related to the development of mathematical models in the frequency domain for electromagnetic blocking, and a study of mathematical models of electromagnetic filters, making then, the here called electromagnetic zero-sequence components suppressor. It presents also, the use of methodologies for performance analysis based on the sequential behavior of harmonic components. It is established a comparison basis of experimental nature that enables the performance and adherence analysis of the model. Are used a low-power prototypes of a filter and a blocker, both electromagnetic, constructed from theoretical analysis. These models are used in the composition of a software for performance analysis and optimal project of harmonic filtering systems. This tool allows an individualized and systematic investigation of the electrical system behavior for distinct harmonic sequence components. PELAS PÁGINAS DE ZERO HORA, O JORNALISMO PÚBLICO (DES)COBERTO / THROUGHT ZERO HORA'S PAGES, THE PUBLIC JOURNALISM (UN)COVERD

Pérsigo, Patrícia Milano 09 April 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present thesis approaches the practice of public journalism (PJ) by the press media. The media context in the South of Brazil is called the RBS Phenomenon by Guareschi and Ramos (1988), in which the Zero Hora Newspaper configures a business capitalist model, becoming a strong competitor in the gauchos* media market. In addition to this, according to Faccin (2009) the Rede Brasil Sul (RBS) today is the biggest media network in the South of Brazil, which places it not only as the biggest owner of communication vehicles as a spokesperson of this society. Having this vision of peculiar context we embraced the Zero Hora Newspaper as our empirical object. From state of the art researches we realized that the current of public journalism falls back on a vast number of terms that sometimes are used as synonyms, sometimes used with subtle differences or even with a great variety of applications. Haas (2006) in his studies of worldwide mapping of public journalism elucidates the need of study development that dedicates to deeply investigate the features and peculiarities in different geographic contexts. This way, the problem question which guides this thesis is: How does the public journalism is revealed in journalistic practices at Zero Hora? Accordingly, our general aim is to study the manifestations of public journalism on Zero Hora, and more specifically to comprehend the dynamic of these current journalistic practices on ZH; identify the understanding of journalists in the newsroom as well as the management of this vehicle upon the PJ and confront them with report analysis from news editorial. This thesis is theoretically structured with Rosen (1996), Glaser (1999), Traquina (1999; 2003), Silva (2002; 2006) and Nip (2006). Secondly we treated the media organizations and the journalistic production as of studies by Rodrigues (1990), Esteves (1998), Traquina (1999; 2005), MacQuail (2012; 2013) and McCombs (2009). As a research strategy we adopted the case study (YIN, 2005) and we used different techniques to collect data as well as the document analysis, structured and semi-structured interviews, non-participant systematic observation (MARCONI AND LAKATOS, 2003) and analysis of reports from script elaborated by the researcher. Overall we identified that the journalistic campaign coverage of Fundação Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho, besides the journalists profiles related directly to the news production, the subject coverage (local and state regional) and the main news values perceived characterize as ways of manifestation of PJ on ZH. This scenery shows that the vehicle has a manifestation potential of this practice. However, ZH stands some organizational gates to this daily journalistic routine making its product oscillate in terms of public journalism which leads us to say that sometimes it is covered and sometimes not.

With the increase of non-linear electrical loads in the distribution networks, intensifies the level of harmonic currents responsible for the distortions in electrical signals, compromising the quality of electricity. The use of electromagnetic devices is currently a promising alternative to mitigation of harmonic currents of zero sequence. They are robust devices that when used alone or in conjunction with other arrangements can be technically and economically attractive. The electromagnetic filter is a device inserted in parallel to the system with low zero sequence impedance and high positive and negative sequence impedance. Thus, for an ideal filter, there is the confinement of “Triplens” harmonic currents without the power flow is compromised. Seeking to improve the zero sequence current divider between the system and the filter, the electromagnetic blocker is inserted in series to the system because of their high zero sequence impedance and low impedance for the positive sequence and negative sequence. This work, using the method of transmittances, develops an aid methodology to measure and design the electromagnetics filter and blocker, depending on the percentage of desired filtering for zero sequence current. For this, the sequential resistance equation and sequential reactance equation are presented to the filter and blocker. Initially, the measure and design filter are made without the presence of the blocker, inserted only when the results achieved are not satisfactory. In short, the filtering system performance measured and designed is analyzed using the proposed method and the PSIM®, widespread and dedicated program for the development of simulations involving electrical circuits. Thus, it is shown, therefore, a diagnosis of tack for the proposed model.
