Vývoj a hodnocení nové necementované revizní acetabulární komponenty totální endoprotézy kyčelního kloubu / typ TC / / Development and evaluation of new cementless revision acetabular components for total hip arthroplasty / type TC /Šťastný, Eduard January 2014 (has links)
Development and evaluation of new cementless revision acetabular components for total hip arthroplasty / type TC / Objective: The aim of the clinical part of the study was to introduce a new revision oval cup type TC, and evaluate its reliability and utility in revision endoprosthesis. Due to the different structure of the implant, we aimed to objectively demonstrate the remodeling of bone tissue in its vicinity. In the experimental part of the work we verified the hypothesis that the use of locking screws has an effect on the bond strength of the implant with bone tissue, and therefore on the primary stability of the acetabular component. Method: We evaluated 31 patients that underwent revision hip surgery between 2004 and 2008. The mean follow-up was 7.1 years (range 5.3 to 9.3 years, minimum 5 years after surgery). Osteointegration of the implant and remodeling of bone tissue around the implant and its ribs were evaluated by digital radiography and computed tomography, and clinical results according to Harris. The experiment was based on the execution of pull-out tests after the implantation of TC cups in cadaveric bovine pelves. We evaluated the dependence of tensile forces in the axis of the implant on extraction of the metal cup from the bone bed. Four tests were conducted with the cup fixed...

Infrastructural orphans: finding a new meaning and purpose for the 2010 World Cup stadia - the Peter Mokaba stadium case studyVan Niekerk, Stefan January 2016 (has links)
This document is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree: Masters of Urban
Design, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2016 / Six years after the 2010 FIFA World Cup was hosted by South Africa many researchers are still contemplating the so-called positive spin-offs that was propagated (Bond & Cottle, 2012: 1) leading up to this mega-event. Massive capital over-spending, increased public debt and severe under utilisation of these newly constructed iconic stadia and surrounding infrastructure are reported which is representative of the sobering realisation that mega-events, contrary to popular belief, may not be the ‘begin all, end all’ catalyst for urban development – a critique that has been noted in many countries of the north (Haferburg, 2011: 334). Now that the sound of cheering crowds have faded along with visual images honouring the mega-event (Young, 2015), we are faced with the stark realisation that cities need to maintain these expensive facilities and actively seek to attract large events to ensure a relatively stable stream of much required revenue.
Santos (2014) questions the amount of rationality applied when such investment decisions are made and points to the generally accepted and portrayed idea that these new iconic stadia will somehow translate into other socio-economic benefits, but argues that due to the rather inflexible use of these facilities, it is very seldom that positive spin-offs are actually realisable. Therefore public investment and expenditure decisions by government have a more significant impact on the inhabitants of an area as they themselves suffer the burden of budgetary deficits, severely increased public debt (Hoiris, 2012), and most importantly, the spatial and resulting socio-economic consequences of ill-advised development. This mammoth of a task (of maintaining facilities) is even further complicated by various degrees of local detachment, socially and functionally, and therefore interventions will need to seek alternative ways to facilitate a sort of ‘re-integration’ into the existing urban fabric by a process of land use redefinition and spatial reconfiguration.
Such an issue and approach is no different to the Peter Makoba Stadium in Polokwane and therefore this research will utilise the site as a case study in an attempt to discover whether and how urban design can re-integrate such facilities into cities by developing a new image, use and meaning in order for it to more appropriately fit into the local context. The study firstly explored how and why mega-events has been utilised for urban development globally and what the collective experiences have been. A precedent study was then conducted to determine how other cities have dealt with these challenges and to what extent it has been deemed successful. A process of design approach formulation and interpretation was undertaken that ultimately influenced and informed the proposed urban design interventions for the Peter Makoba Sports Precinct. The proposed urban design interventions is however further aligned to the City of Polokwane’s long term development vision and therefore gives spatial expression to forward planning policies in a more coherent and systematic manner. Finally conclusions are drawn from the study that can serve as a guideline for the future design and development of such facilities.
This study therefore explores how a new social and economic meaning can be created and attached to and around the stadium and move towards newer, desirable forms of urbanity that can in return feed back into the city itself. / MT2017

Exploring Audience Perception of a Cause-Related Sponsorship Campaign : The Case of Hummel and the Danish National Football TeamDuring The 2022 FIFA World CupKószás, Franciska, Tudesko, Patricia January 2023 (has links)
Background: There has been a noticeable growth in the use of sponsorships and corporate social responsibility in the world of professional sports, especially in football. This phenomenon is not particularly surprising given that modern companies are forced to compete for the attention of more socially conscious audiences. The socially responsible reputation of a firm may be significantly strengthened by incorporating CSR and CRM efforts. Audiences have shown to have a more positive opinion of these initiatives when they are implemented in the sports industry, often differentiating them from direct corporate marketing due to their perceived authenticity and compassion. Hummel's decision to tone down the Danish national team's kit for The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar serves as a compelling example of cause-related marketing within the football industry. Purpose: The development of an in-depth understanding of how online communities perceive the cause-related campaign executed by Hummel at The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Method: Qualitative Research; Interpretivism; Methodology – Exploratory Case Study; Inductive Approach; Data Collection – Systematic; Sampling – Deliberate/Nonprobability Sampling; Data Analysis – Content Analysis (creation of tree-diagrams based on quotes, generic categories and main categories) Conclusion: The authors have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of the findings derived from content analysis, establishing meaningful connections between these findings and relevant theories regarding cause-related marketing (CRM) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). As a result, this study makes a contribution to the scholarly understanding of the potential responses exhibited by online communities towards cause-related marketing campaigns. The findings of this study shed light on the diverse range of reactions that can be anticipated when a company chooses to engage in such sponsorship endeavors.

Gastight Paperboard Package: A new Step in Food PackagingHauptmann, Marek, Schult, Andre, Zelm, Roland, Gailat, Tilo, Lenske, Alexander, Majschak, Jens-Peter, Großmann, Harald January 2013 (has links)
Packages made from coated paperboard are currently used in food packaging for frosted or microwave food. These cups are usually deep drawn from flat paperboard blanks. The blanks are pre-creased to control the material overflow that appears during drawing. The resulting wrinkles in the sealing area have to be considered as capillary tubes allowing the gas exchange between the package and the environmental atmosphere. A new technological approach in 3D forming enables the prevention of capillary tubes in the sealing area. The result is a gas-tight sealable paperboard cup which is limited by its coating concerning the degree of gas tightness.

Employment Effects of the FIFA World Cup on Host Nations : An Event StudyWettborg, Felix January 2022 (has links)
The employment effect of hosting the FIFA world cup has been researched multiple times with city, municipality, or state data using a variety of methods. Arguably, the Difference-In-Difference (DID) method, first used by Hotchkiss et al. (2003) then refined by countless others, is the most common method for measuring both short-term and long-term employment effects of mega sporting events (Hagn & Maennig, 2008). This event study applies a static and a dynamic two-way fixed effects difference-in-difference model (TWFEDD) to national employment data for 24 nations throughout 42 years between 1979 and 2021. The World Cup hosts included in the study are Mexico 1986, Italy 1990, USA 1994, France 1998, Korea & Japan 2002, Germany 2006, and Russia 2018. The two TWFEDD models fail to reject the hypothesis that there is no causal employment effect when hosting a World Cup.

Bollen är i rullning för en jämställd fotboll : En tematisk innehållsanalys om Sportbladets gestaltning av de svenska dam- och herrlandslagen i fotboll / The ball has started rolling towards equal representation in soccer : A thematic content analysis of Sportbladet’s portration of the Swedish women’s and men’s national team in soccerZanier, Manda, Nilsson, Philippa January 2024 (has links)
This study’s aim and purpose was to analyze how the Swedish tabloid Sportbladet portrayed the Swedish women’s and men's national teams in soccer under two different championships, 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020. A thematic content analysis was used as the method to analyze 65 different articles from Sportbladet. 22 articles from 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 43 articles from UEFA Euro 2020. The research questions for this study were:Q1: How is the Swedish women's national soccer team portrayed during the 2023 Women's World Cup by Sportbladet? Q2: How is the Swedish men's national soccer team portrayed during UEFA 2020 by Sportbladet?Q3: What differences can be seen in how the two national teams are portrayed? The findings of the study were similar to prior studies in the field of sports and gender. The result of this study reveals that there still is more reporting about male soccer but a new finding our study made was that it is starting to equal out. A large number of the articles about the women’s national team were about performance-irrelevant aspects, such as relationships on and off the field. There were also articles of how players took a stand on different social issues such as equality. The Swedish men’s national team was portrayed as still having a higher value and prestige by receiving more coverage. There were also more articles about performance- relevant aspects such as preparation, success and honor. Unlike the Swedish women’s national team, the men’s team received much more criticism by Sportbladets writers. The largest difference in the portrayal of the two national teams was that the women’s national team portrayed more with more performance-irrelevant aspects while the men's national team was portrayed with their performance. The men’s national team were also portrayed more as strong individuals, while the women were portrayed largely as not being as strong and needing male guidance. A noticeable difference was also how the success was illustrated, the Swedish women's national team were praised a lot as a group while the male players were praised for their individual performances. A contribution from this study was that the only articles about sexism, such as looks and clothing, were directed towards the men, which goes against what previous studies have found.

transgressionReres, Shannon Elizabeth 14 December 2023 (has links)
"transgression" is a poetry collection with claws and nail polish. Across four acts, Reres uses a chorus of voices to interrogate the role of the transgressing woman—both present and past, privately and publicly. Transgressing, for Reres, is a performance. Moreover, it is a performance in which women have been asked, coerced—even forced—to participate for millenia. By stepping into the role of the transgressing woman deliberately, Reres turns this tradition on its head. In these pages, she shows that there is power in putting on masks and costumes, just as there is power in taking them off. The difference—between performance as power and performance as prison—resides in the freedom to choose. / Master of Fine Arts / "transgression" is a poetry collection.
