The thermodynamic equation of seawater - 2010 (TEOS-10) is hampered by the inability to measure absolute salinity or density in situ. No new advances for in situ salinity or density measurement have taken place since the adoption of the practical salinity scale in 1978. In this thesis three possible technologies for in situ measurements are developed and assessed: phased conductivity, an in situ density sensor and sound speed sensors. Of these, only sound speed sensors showed the potential for an in situ TEOS-10 measurement solution. To be implemented, sensor response times need to be matched and the sound speed sensor accuracy must be improved. Sound speed sensor accuracy is primarily limited by the calibration reference, pure water. Test results indicate the TEOS-10 sound speed coefficients may also need to be improved. Absolute numerousness judgement (ANJ) is numerical competence in which the concrete number is discriminated. ANJ hasn't been tested in pigeons (Columba livia) yet. Therefore six individuals were tested in discrimination of number "three" from ratio 2 vs. 3: two pigeons on "touch screen" and all six by opening small bowls that were closed by discriminated stimulus. Pigeons didn't reach required level of 70 % (they answered with success approx. 30 - 65 %) in any testing environment. Mixed presentation was created such as control of size, possition and shape of discrimination stimulus. It was also studied wheather pigeons used alternative strategies. Success in ANJ was compared with previous discrimination tasks (Kocourková, 2016) in both environment (discrimination of reduced black and white stimulus on the cap and discrimination of round-shaped black and white areas in the Skinner box). If was found out that pigeons weren't able to learn in the same condition discrimination 2 vs. 3 stimulus during the same number of trials which they needed in the previous discrimination task. During answering to the stimulus they didn't use any alternative strategies with one exception. The effect of social hierarchy in the group on the performance of pigeons wasn't found out. Title: Relations between high, jumping and speed-dexterity parameters in older students' volleyball Objectives: The aim of this work is to identify and evaluate the relationships between high, jumping and speed-dexterity parameters in older students' volleyball in the years 2008 to 2012. Methods: For the processing and evaluation of data retrieved from the results of standardized tests for volleyball in individual years and generally used method of comparison (comparison) data were also used basic statistical methods (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, range of variation, T-sections, McCall criterion). The evaluation was performed by means of graphs and verbal assessment. Results: In the selection of the 20 highest players in each year from 2008 to 2012 could not be confirmed that the majority did not reach above the average of the absolute values after smash jump start, but it was confirmed that the majority did not reach above-average values when measuring speed-dexterity test, known as K-test measured against a whole group of players in a given year. Furthermore, according to the processed data confirmed that most of the selection of 20 of the K-test the best players in each year from 2008 to 2012 will achieve above-average values of the absolute jump start after smash...

En recherche clinique ou environnementale, les biomarqueurs protéiques présentent un intérêt croissant. Bien que les immuno-dosages restent les méthodes de référence pour leur quantification, les récentes avancées en spectrométrie de masse (MS) font de cette technique une alternative crédible à l’ELISA. Ce travail apporte quelques éléments méthodologiques pour repousser certaines limitations de la MS. D’abord, deux dosages ont été proposés. Celui réalisé chez G. fossarum représente le premier exemple de dosage de la Vitellogénine chez un invertébré par LC-MS/MS. L’un des défis de la méthode présentée est de doser spécifiquement une protéine dans un organisme dont le génome est majoritairement inconnu. Le second dosage concerne les peptides contenant une méthionine. Nous avons développé un protocole d’oxydation des méthionines afin de s’affranchir du biais lié à leur oxydation partielle. Cette méthode a ensuite été appliquée à une protéine impliquée dans la maladie d’Alzheimer (l’Apolipoprotéine E4) dans une cohorte de 673 plasmas. Ce dosage est à ce jour l’une des plus grandes études réalisées par LC-MS/MS et montre toute la robustesse de cette approche. Enfin, l’influence de la phase mobile sur la sensibilité des dosages de peptides a été étudiée : d’abord en phase inverse, où le méthanol est une bonne alternative à l’acétonitrile ; ensuite en HILIC, où les difficultés liées à l’étude d’ions multichargés en milieu majoritairement organique ont été abordées. Les problèmes liés à la capacité de charge des colonnes ont également été soulevés. La chromatographie HILIC reste prometteuse pour la quantification de peptides puisqu’un facteur dix en sensibilité peut être apporté. / Both in clinical and environmental research, protein biomarkers are of growing interest. Although immunoassays are the gold standard for their quantification, recent advances in mass spectrometry (MS) make this technique a viable alternative to ELISA. This work provides some methodological elements to eliminate some limitations of the MS approach. First, two assays have been proposed. The first one achieved for G. fossarum represents the first example of quantification of vitellogenin in an invertebrate by LC-MS/MS. One of the challenges of the presented method is to specifically assay a protein in an organism whose genome is largely unknown. The second assay relates to methionine-containing peptides. A protocol was developped for total oxidation of methionines in order to overcome the bias due to their partial oxidation. This method was then applied to a protein involved in Alzheimer's disease (Apolipoprotein E4) in a cohort of 673 plasma samples. This assay is to date one of the largest study carried out by LC-MS/MS and shows all the robustness of this approach. Lastly, the influence of the mobile phase on the sensitivity of peptides assays was studied: first in reversed phase, where methanol is a good alternative to acetonitrile; then in HILIC, where the difficulties associated with the study of multicharged ions in a mainly organic content were discussed. Problems related to the carrying capacity of the columns were also raised.

Because of the limitation of GPS indoors there is a demand for alternative methods to accurately determine both position and orientation. Previous attempts at positional tracking has required an infrastructure of hardware and sensors to provide the path of an object or person. This is not a mobile solution to a mobile problem. This project aims to answer the question if it is possible to use an Inertial measurement unit sensor for this application. It will also create a prototype device that will demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed method. The goal of the project is to reach an accuracy of ±20 cm for position and ±5 degrees for rotation. A Kalman filter will be used to filter the output from the sensor in order to get more stable and accurate readings. The results show that it is possible to determine position of ±20 cm up to 100 cm with the proposed method. An inertial measurement unit is capable of measuring rotation accuracy of ±5 degrees and a prototype has been designed and manufactured to demonstrate the method.

Com o objetivo de avaliar a influência do processo de cicatrização óssea sobre o desempenho biomecânico de mini-parafusos utilizados como ancoragem em ortodontia, foram inseridos 60 mini-parafusos (1,6 x 6mm) auto-rosqueantes (Tomas® Dentaurum / Germany) na maxila e na mandíbula de 5 cães adultos da Raça Beagle. Os pré-molares (P1, P2, P3, P4) superiores e inferiores foram extraídos três meses antes da inserção vertical dos mini-parafusos. Os cães foram sacrificados nos dias 0, 2, 7, 15 e 30 após a instalação dos mini-parafusos. Os maxilares foram dissecados e os corpos de provas contendo os mini-parafusos foram preparados para avaliação da resistência à tração na Máquina de Ensaios Universal EMIC® 2000, utilizando uma garra desenvolvida especificamente para este estudo. Os valores e gráficos correspondentes ao desempenho mecânico foram imediatamente gerados e registrados pelo programa de aquisição Tesc 3.01®. As possíveis diferenças entre os períodos de cicatrização foram avaliadas pela análise de variância (ANOVA) e pelo teste de comparações múltiplas de Bonferroni. Os resultados demonstraram um índice de sucesso de 100% dos mini-parafusos inseridos. Após a dissecação dos segmentos ósseos, verificou-se que em alguns casos a superfície da rosca ficou parcialmente exposta, razão pela qual o cálculo da resistência à tração (média na maxila de: 141,76 ± 92,82 Ncm a 237,02 ± 78,34 Ncm e média na mandíbula de: 156,86 ± 75,55 Ncm a 328,76 ± 82,17 Ncm) foi feito em relação à área real de inserção (maxila: 24,01 ± 6,09mm2 e mandíbula: 22,88 ± 5,31mm2), observando-se um valor médio por mm2 significativamente maior na mandíbula (11,60 ± 5,22 Ncm) quando comparado à maxila (8,22 ± 5,04 Ncm). A relação entre a intensidade da força de tração (Ncm), superfície inserida (mm2) e períodos de cicatrização não apresentaram diferenças significantes (p= 0,126). Com base nestes resultados podemos concluir que os mini-parafusos avaliados demonstraram excelente desempenho biomecânico nos diferentes períodos de cicatrização analisados, apresentando maior resistência à tração no osso mandibular. / With the purpose of evaluating the influence of bone healing process on the biomechanical performance of mini-screws used as anchorage in orthodontics, 60 self-tapping (Tomas® - Dentaurum / Germany) mini-screws were inserted (1.6 x 6 mm) in the maxilla and in the mandible of 5 adult Beagle dogs. Upper and lower premolars (P1, P2, P3, P4) were extracted three months before the vertical insertion of mini-screws. The dogs were sacrified on days 0, 2, 7, 15 and 30 after the insertion of mini-screws. The jaws were dissected and the bone blocks, containing the miniscrews, were prepared to the axial pull-out strength in the Universal Testing Machine EMIC ® 2000, using a device developed specifically for this study. The values and graphics for the mechanical performance were immediately generated and recorded by the acquisition program. The clinical success rate of mini-screws was 100%. The possible differences between the healing periods were analyzed by Bonferroni´s multiple test comparisons and variance analysis (ANOVA). After the dissection of the bone segments, it was found that in some cases, the mini-screw thread was not fully inserted into the bone, reason why the pull-out strength (average of the maxilla: 141.76 ± 92.82 Ncm to 237.02 ± 78.34 Ncm and average in the mandible of 156.86 ± 75.55 Ncm to 328.76 ± 82.17 Ncm) was evaluated in relation to the real area of insertion (maxilla: 24.01 ± 6.09 mm2 and mandible: 22.88 ± 5.31 mm2). Mean value/mm2 were significantly higher in the mandible (11.60 ± 5.22 Ncm/mm2) than the maxilla (8.22 ± 5.04 Ncm/mm2). There was no statistically significant difference (p = 0126) between pull-out strength (Ncm), surface inserted (mm2) and the observed healing periods. Based on these results it can be concluded that mini-screws evaluated in this study demonstrated an excellent biomechanical behavior in all different periods of healing, showing more resistance to traction in the mandibular bone.

Neste trabalho apresentamos um assunto que tem contribuído em diversas áreas, o conhecido Problemas de Lurie. Para exemplificar sua aplicabilidade estudamos a Rede Neural de Hopfield e a relacionamos com o problema. Alguns teoremas são apresentados e um dos resultados do Problema de Lurie é aplicado ao modelo de Hopfield. / In the present work we show some properties of the so called Luries type equation. We treat particularly the stability conditions problem, and show how this theory is applied in a Hopfield neural network.

Este trabalho propõe-se a analisar Mar absoluto e outros poemas (1945), de Cecília Meireles (1901-1964). A unidade da seleção dos poemas vem por meio da recorrência de um sentimento da falta, assunto constante na lírica ceciliana e muito representativo em sua terceira obra da poesia madura. Pretende-se pensar a totalidade da produção poética da autora, relacionando-a a obra estudada. São lidos os poemas: Irrealidade, Mar absoluto e Elegia, em cada um deles vê-se, ao mesmo tempo, uma falta fundante e um desejo de encontro. A síntese entre esses dois polos produz um absoluto que conjuga distância e proximidade, ausência e afeto. / This paper aims to analyze Mar absoluto e outros poemas, by Cecília Meireles. What brings together the poems that are part of the book is the theme of absence, which is a recurrent subject in Meireles lyric and clearly depictive in her third work of mature poetry. The objective was to think the totality of the authors poetic production, relating it to the book studied here. We discuss the poems: Irrealidade, Mar absoluto and Elegia. In which one of them, we see, simultaneously, a founding absence and the wish for encounter. The synthesis between these two poles creates an absolute realm that unites distance and proximity, absence and affection.

This paper focuses on Brad Hooker's moral theory which is a version of rule-consequentialism and is developed in Ideal Code, Real World. The paper starts with a reconstruction of the theory. I then go on to criticize Hooker on mainly two points. The first point is on the matter of the "disaster-clause". I present here a modified example from Leonard Kahn: a choice between saving your own city with all members of your family and friends versus another arbitrary city with a few more people living in it. Hooker does not say much about the extent of a person's obligations and priority towards family and friends. So, it is worth asking: does the theory cohere with what we know about our human nature, and would Hooker's theory and a plausible account human nature reach the same conclusion as far as this particular example is concerned? The second point focuses on the issue of the internalization condition. This comes in two varieties: one can recommend internalization of one code by everyone (absolute rule-consequentialism), on the one hand, or internalization of different codes for different groups (relative rule-consequentialism). Which one should be preferred? I will argue for nation-relative rule-consequentialism, and will do so from a consequentialist perspective. I will do this by first arguing that there exist differences in people's conventional morality – something Hooker does not seem to take into consideration to a sufficient degree. I will try to show that if we have differences in conventional morality, then the reasons for preferring national internalization of codes are stronger from a global perspective.

Então, na tragédia, a necessidade do conceito, ainda inconsciente-de-si, se aproxima do conteúdo de vida do destino do herói trágico, assim como a linguagem do aedo deixa de ser impessoal (como na epopéia) e participa ativamente desse conteúdo como ator. Este participa ativamente do drama e interfere no mesmo, sua linguagem denota o pathos do herói. A tragédia antiga começa, pois, a realizar a unidade dos deuses tão reclamada pelos filósofos da antiguidade, e irá desembocar na comédia onde se processará a absolutização do Si e a passagem da consciência feliz para a consciência infeliz. A progressiva manifestação do Espírito pode ser traduzida pelo movimento de saída da substância imediata, visto na religião da arte, que suprassume os momentos da obra-de-arte abstracta e da obra-de-arte vivente, a resultar na obra-de-arte espiritual. Esse movimento consiste no sair da substância em direção ao Si, pois, este reivindica o reconhecimento da sua singularidade pelo coletivo. Ademais, o Si criador da singularidade na religião da arte e no desembocar da tragédia, é instrumento para o autoconhecimento do Espírito, em seus momentos, no tempo, porquanto, sua consciência-de-si revela-se a si mesma mediante as potências universais ofendidas e que reclamam vingança, pois tal religião da arte é como que um espelho do conteúdo do Espírito. Este conteúdo efetivamente presente é, pois, em-si, uma coisa, e, para a consciência, outra. O direito de cima e o de baixo recebem a significação de que o primeiro representa a potência que sabe e que se manifesta à consciência, e, o segundo toma a significação da potência que se subtrai à consciência e se esconde no mundo subterrâneo das Erínias. Esta mesma religião da arte também aguça o espírito e faz alçar a imaginação e a fantasia de todos os espectadores até às alturas da consideração de sua peculiar vida na cidade, do direito humano e do direito divino um sendo o caráter feminino, e o outro, o masculino no caudal da necessidade lógica e que é o próprio destino do Espírito total. The progressive manifestation of the Spirit can be translated by the movement of get out of immediate substance, viewed in the religion of art, which supersedes the moments of the abstract work of art and of the living work of art, resulting in the spiritual work of art. This movement means the output of the substance for himself, because it claims the recognition of their uniqueness by the collective. Moreover, the Self is the creator of the singularity in the religion of art and, in the development of tragedy, is tool for self-knowledge of the Spirit in its moments, in the time, because his self-consciousness reveals itself through the universal powers offended and to seek revenge, because such a religion of art is like the mirror of the Spirit. This content is actually present, therefore, in itself, is a thing, and to the consciousness another.
