No / Many accident and emergency clinicians regard the radiographic image as an extension of the clinical examination, as a provisional diagnosis, based on clinical signs and symptoms, can be confirmed or refuted by inspection of X-rays. However, the value of radiography in this context is not determined by the actual presence of trauma or pathology on the radiograph, but is dependent on the ability of a clinician to identify any trauma or pathology present. Traditionally, the responsibility for interpreting radiographic images within the accident and emergency environment in the United Kingdom (UK) has been with medical clinicians. However, expansion of the nursing role has begun to change the boundaries of professional practice and now many nurses are both requesting and interpreting trauma radiographs. To ascertain the ability of accident and emergency doctors and nurses to interpret trauma radiographs, and identify whether there is a consistent standard of interpretive accuracy that could be used as a measure of competence. Methods: A literature review was conducted using the Cochrane Library, Medline and CINAHL databases and the keywords radiographic interpretation, radiographic reporting, accident and emergency and emergency/nurse practitioner. Findings: The ability of accident and nursing doctors and nurses to interpret trauma radiographs accurately varies markedly, and no identified published study has established an appropriate level of accuracy that should be achieved in order to demonstrate satisfactory competence in the interpretation of radiographic images. Conclusions: Determining a measure of interpretive accuracy that can be used to assess ability to interpret radiographic trauma images is fraught with difficulties. Consequently, nurses may attempt to prove their skills by directly comparing their abilities to those of their medical colleagues. However, as a result of marked variation in the ability of senior house officers to interpret trauma radiographs, a similar ability does not automatically imply that a satisfactory level of ability has been achieved.

Robots have an underlying model to control their joints with the aim of reaching a specific pose. The accuracy of a robot is based on the underlying model and its parameters. The parameters of the underlying model of a robot are based on the ideal geometry and set by the manufacturer. If the parameters do not represent the physical robot accurately, the movements of the robot become inaccurate. Methods to optimize the parameters to represent the physical robot more accurately exist and result in an accuracy enhancement. Nevertheless, the underlying model of the manufacturer remains of analytical form and therefore has a limited complexity which hinders the model to represent arbitrary non-linearities and higher degree relations. To further enhance the accuracy of a robot by using a model with a higher complexity, this work investigates the use of a model of the inverse kinematics based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The accuracy is investigated for a robot with an attached tool. In a first step, the development and initial evaluation of a suitable AI model is conducted in a simulated environment. Afterwards, the uncompensated accuracy of the robot with the tool is assessed and measurements are recorded. Using the measurements, an AI model based on the measurements of physical robot. The model is evaluated on the physical robot with a tool to quantify the achieved accuracy enhancement.

This work is dedicated to a solution for automatically analyzing and summarizing these valuable data at both product and category levels. In this research, a system was developed to retrieve and analyze extensive data from public online resources. A parallel framework was created to make this system extensible and efficient. In this framework, a star topological network was adopted in which each computing unit was assigned to retrieve a fraction of data and to assess sentiment. Finally, the preprocessed data were collected and summarized by the central machine which generates the final result that can be rendered through a web interface. The system was designed to have sound performance, robustness, manageability, extensibility, and accuracy.

Understanding the influence of phishing techniques and individual differences on susceptibility and detection accuracy is an important step toward creating comprehensive behavioral and organizational anti-phishing awareness programs. This dissertation seeks to achieve a dual purpose in a series of three essays. Essay 1 seeks to explore the nature of phishing threats that including identifying attack intentions, and psychological and design techniques of phishing attacks. Essay 2 seeks to understand the relative influence of attack techniques and individual phishing experiential traits on people's phishing susceptibility. Essay 3 seeks to understand an individual's cognitive and affective differences that differentiate between an individual's phishing detection accuracy.

The Effects of Contingency Type on Accuracy and Reaction TimeAdams, Owen James 08 1900 (has links)
Positive and negative reinforcement contingencies have been compared in terms of preference, but the differential effects of positive and negative reinforcement on reaction time and accuracy with other variables controlled remain unclear. Fifteen undergraduate students participated in a sound discrimination task that involved random mixed-trial presentations of positive and negative reinforcement contingencies. The participants' goal was to correctly identify whether the tone was shorter or longer than 600 milliseconds. On positive reinforcement trials, the participants received feedback and money tallies only if they identified the sound length correctly, with each correct response in the positive reinforcement trials earning the participant 10 cents. On negative reinforcement trials, the participants received feedback and money tallies only if they identified the sound length incorrectly, with incorrect trials subtracting 10 cents from the participants' total money (which began at $4.00 to equalize the weights of the positive and negative reinforcement contingencies). Accuracy analyses showed a relatively curvilinear relationship between the number of errors for each participant and the binned duration of the sound stimulus, with no differences across the positive and negative reinforcement conditions. Results also indicated weak linear negative correlations at the single subject level between comparison stimulus duration and reaction time, with similar slopes between positive and negative reinforcement trials, and strong curvilinear correlations at the group level, indicating differences between grouped and individual analyses. Overall our results appear to support abandoning the distinction between positive and negative reinforcement as two separate behavioral processes.

Abstract
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques have seen rapid growth as methods for improved operational procedures. The main technology of MIS is based on image guided surgery (IGS) devices, namely surgical navigators, surgical robotics and image scanners. With their widespread use in various fields of surgery, methods and tools that may be used routinely in the hospital setting for “real world” assessment of the accuracy of these devices are lacking.
In this thesis the concept of accuracy testing was developed to meet the needs of quality assurance of navigators and robots in a hospital environment. Thus, accuracy was defined as the difference between actual and measured distances from an origin, also including determination of directional accuracy within a specific volume. Two precision engineered accuracy assessment phantoms with assessment protocols were developed as advanced materials and methods for the community. The phantoms were designed to include a common region of surgical interest (ROSI) that was determined to roughly mimic the size of the human head. These tools and methods were utilized in accuracy assessment of two commercial navigators, both enabling the two most widely used tracking modalities, namely the optical tracking system (OTS) and the electromagnetic tracking system (EMTS). Also a study of the accuracy and repeatability of a prototype surgical interactive robot (SIRO) was done. Finally, the phantoms were utilized in spatial accuracy assessment of a commercial surgical 3D CT scanner, the O-Arm.
The experimental results indicate that the proposed definitions, tools and methods fulfill the requirements of quality assurance of IGS devices in the hospital setting. The OTS and EMTS tracking modalities were nearly identical in overall accuracy but had unique error trends. Also, the accuracy of the prototype robot SIRO was in the range recommended in the IGS community. Finally, the image quality of the O-Arm could be analyzed using the developed phantoms. Based on the accuracy assessment results, suggestions were made when setting up each IGS device for surgical procedures and for new applications in minimally invasive surgery. / Tiivistelmä
Mini-invasiivisen eli täsmäkirurgian tekniikoita ja teknologioita on alettu hyödyntää viime aikoina yhä enemmän. Tavoitteena on ollut parantaa kirurgisten operaatioiden tarkkuutta ja turvallisuutta. Täsmäkirurgiassa käytetyt teknologiat pohjautuvat kuvaohjattuihin kirurgisiin paikannuslaitteisiin. Kuvaohjattuihin laitteisiin kuuluvat navigaattorit, kirurgiset robotit ja kuvantalaitteet. Näiden laitteistojen kehittyminen on mahdollistanut tekniikoiden hyödyntämisen monialaisessa kirurgiassa. Paikannuslaitteistojen ja robottien yleistyminen on kuitenkin nostanut sairaaloissa esiin yleisen ongelman paikannustarkkuuden määrittämisessä käytännön olosuhteissa.
Tässä väitöskirjassa esitetään kirurgisten yksiköiden käyttöön menetelmä sekä kaksi uutta fantomia ja protokollaa käytössä olevien paikannuslaitteistojen tarkkuuden määrittämiseen. Fantomit suunniteltiin sisältämään ennalta määritetty kirurginen kohdealue, mikä rajattiin käsittämään ihmisen kallon tilavuus. Fantomeita ja protokollaa hyödynnettiin kahden kaupallisen paikannuslaitteen tarkkuuden määrityksessä. Navigaattorit käyttivät optiseen ja elektromagneettiseen paikannukseen perustuvaa tekniikkaa. Lisäksi työssä kehitetyillä menetelmillä tutkittiin prototyyppivaiheessa olevan kirurgisen robotin paikannus- ja toistotarkkuutta sekä tietokonetomografialaitteen O-kaaren kuvan tarkkuuden määritystä.
Kokeellisten tulosten perusteella työssä kehitetyt fantomit ja protokollat ovat luotettavia ja tarkkoja menetelmiä kirurgisten paikannuslaitteistojen tarkkuuden määrittämiseen sairaalaoloissa. Kirurgisten navigaattoreiden tarkkuuden määritystulokset osoittivat optisen ja elektromagneettisen paikannustekniikan olevan lähes yhtä tarkkoja. Prototyyppirobotin tarkkuus oli tulosten perusteella kirjallisuudessa esitettyjen suosituksien mukainen. Lisäksi O-kaaren kuvanlaatua voitiin tutkia kehitetyillä fantomeilla. Tarkkuudenmääritystulosten perusteella työssä ehdotetaan menetelmiä laitteistojen optimaalisesta käytöstä leikkaussalissa sekä laajennetaan niiden käyttömahdollisuuksia. Tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää myös paikannuslaitteistojen kehittämistyössä.

<p dir="ltr">As a new spaceborne laser remote sensing system, the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation, or GEDI, is being widely used for monitoring forest ecosystems. However, its measurements are subject to uncertainties that will affect the calculation of ground elevation and vegetation height. This research intends to investigate the quality of the GEDI elevation data and its relevance to topography and land cover.</p><p dir="ltr">In this study, the elevation of the GEDI data is compared to 3DEP DEM, which has a higher resolution and accuracy. All the experiments in this study are conducted for two locations with vastly different terrain and land cover conditions, namely Tippecanoe County in Indiana and Mendocino County in California. Through this investigation we expect to gain a comprehensive understanding of GEDI’s elevation quality in various terrain and land cover conditions.</p><p dir="ltr">The results show that GEDI data in Tippecanoe County has better elevation accuracy than the GEDI data in Mendocino County. GEDI in Tippecanoe County is almost four times more accurate than in Mendocino County. Regarding land cover, GEDI have better accuracy in low vegetation areas than in forest areas. The ratio can be around three times better in Tippecanoe County and around one and half times better in Mendocino County. In terms of slope, GEDI data shows a clear positive correlation between RMSE and slope. The trend indicates as slope increases, the RMSE increases concurrently. In other words, slope and GEDI elevation accuracy are inversely related. In the experiment involving slope and land cover, the results show that slope is the most influential factor to GEDI elevation accuracy.</p><p dir="ltr">This study informs GEDI users of the factors they must consider for forest biomass calculation and topographic mapping applications. When high terrain slope and/or high vegetation is present, the GEDI data should be checked with other data sources like 3DEP DEM or any ground truth measurements to assure its quality. We expect these findings can help worldwide users understand that the quality of GEDI data is variable and dependent on terrain relief and land cover.</p>

PERCEPTIONS IN PREDICTING ACTOR AND PARTNER SEXUAL AND RELATIONAL SATISFACTION IN COUPLE RELATIONSHIPSNovakova, Lucia 01 January 2016 (has links)
The present exploration of perceptual accuracy and bias in romantic relationships bridges a gap in the literature on the ability of partners to estimate one another’s level of relational and sexual satisfaction, and its impact on their own and their partner’s level of satisfaction. A sample of 50 couples, recruited internationally, in continuously monogamous relationships of at least six-months in length completed online assessments of their relationship. The degree of accuracy and bias of their perception was established by comparing actor’s estimates of their partner’s satisfaction with the partner’s actual, self-reported satisfaction scores. The actor-partner interdependence model (APIM; Kenny, Kashy, & Cook, 2006) revealed significant partner effects (but no actor effects): the underestimation of perceived partner’s sexual and relational satisfaction predicted an increase in partner’s actual sexual and relational satisfaction. Overestimation of partner’s satisfaction, on the other hand, predicted a decrease in partner’s actual satisfaction. Authors hypothesize that under-perception of partner’s satisfaction motivates corrective relationship behaviors, which, in turn, increases the experience of satisfaction of the relationship partner.
