The project focuses on a new production of a Community College with a Physical Education program in a forest area north of Alberga. It will be a facility with multiple gyms which are used during daytime by students and during night by the citizens of Alberga and the close by neighborhoods for organized sports. The main focus for the building is to serve as a "House of sports" for the people but also as a space which can be used for other activities that requires larger open interior spaces such as community markets during fall, evening courses for adults etc. Open spaces for studies on the top floor will also enable self studies, both for the students at the community college but also for the youths of Alberga who go to school at a different location. It will give the opportunity for group projects and homework in a neutral environment that doesn't require the student to have a desk, computer etc. at home which can be a great help for those in a tight economic situation. The strategy for the project builds on an understanding for Physical Education on a Community college level for different types of active professions and which types of facilities they require. Apart from that it requires synergies for a space to be used for different activities to be able to fit different people and different purpose. All spaces in this project need to be multi-functional and well planned to fit their purposes but maily to be able to change for future use. / Projektet fokuserar på nybyggnaden av en folkhögskola med idrottsinriktad utbildning i skogsområdet norr om Alberga. Det kommer vara en anläggning med flera idrottshallar som på dagen nyttjas av studenter och på kvällen används av befolkningen i Alberga och närliggande samhällen för organiserad träning. Tanken är att byggnaden ska kunna fungera som ett idrottens hus för folket men också en plats som kan nyttjas till ortens andra aktiviteter som kräver större interiöra ytor så som loppis på hösten, kvällskurser för vuxna mm. Öppna studieytor på översta våningen ska även möjliggöra självstudier både för folkhögskolans studenter men även för de ungdomar som bor i Alberta men studerar på annan plats. Då finns möjlighet att göra grupprojekt och läxor här i en neutral miljö som inte sätter krav på att eleven själv behöver ex skrivbord, dator mm och kan vara en enorm möjlighet för de som befinner sig i en svår ekonomisk situation.Strategin för projektet bygger på en förståelse för idrottsutbildning på högskolenivå för olika typer av aktiva yrken samt vilka typer av faciliteter detta kräver. Utöver detta är det viktigt med synergier där en yta ska kunna användas till olika aktiviteter för att passa olika människor och syften. Samtliga ytor i projektet behöver vara multifunktionella och väl planerade för att passa till sina planerade ändamål men framförallt kunna förändras för framtida bruk.

The project is a proposal for a building north of the small town of Alberga, functioning both as a standard "Folkets hus" and as a center for craft and arts in the countryside. The focus of the project has been public life on the countryside and hybridizing the different parts of the program. The program consists of a series of workshops for the craft center, situated in a central concrete cylinder, a group of meeting rooms for the "Folkets hus", a small Hostel and a section for staff and administration situated in a wooden grid-structure surrounding the cylinder. The program and spatial structure of the building has resulted from an investigation and inversion of early medieval benedictine monasteries in western Europe as centers for learning and culture in the countryside, especially focusing the 9th century plan of st. Gallen. / Projektet är ett förslag till en byggnad norr om den lilla tätorten Alberga. Byggnaden fungerar dels som ett Folkets hus, dels som ett konst- och hantverkscenter på landsbygden. Fokus för projektet har varit offentligt liv på landsbygden och hybridiseringen av byggnadens olika delar. Programmet består av en serie av verkstäder till hantverkscentret, som är placerade i en cylinder av betong i mitten av byggnaden, en grupp mötesrum till folkets hus, ett litet vandrarhem och en del för personal och administration, pladerade i en trästruktur runt cylindern. Programmet har delvis tagits fram genom en studie och upp och nedvändning av tidiga medeltida benediktinerkloster i västeuropa, sedda som centrum för lärande och kultur på landsbygden. med särskilt fokus på sankt Gallenplanen ifrån 800-talet.

This project aimed to work proactively on the issue of health in rural areas by combining social and sports-related activities in a “Folkets hus” (community center) context. The Stora Sundby region in Eskilstuna municipality, which includes Alberga and a couple of small villages, was the subject of investigation due to a lack of access to physical health care, underlying health problems in the municipality and a lack of social spaces. In addition to own analyses a separate survey was conducted, in which 56 people participated, to understand the public needs in the Stora Sundby region. The survey gave a good picture of what residents in the area wanted and to some extent confirmed my own research. The investigations resulted in a community center with a sports hall add-on. The building is located next to Alberga's school, sports field and sports club to encourage an active lifestyle at an early age. The “Folkets hus” section include meeting rooms, gathering rooms, a café, rooms for lectures and a staff department, while the add-on includes a larger and a smaller sports hall, changing rooms and a gym. In order to handle the combination of sports and social activities, natural ventilation became an important part of the project. The storage spaces in the large sports hall multi-function as air valves and supply air to the building while skylights in the other volumes allow air to flow out. / Projektet gick ut på att arbeta förebyggande i hälsofrågan på landsbygden genom att kombinera sociala och idrottsrelaterade verksamheter i ett Folkets hus. Lokalsamhället Stora Sundby i Eskilstuna kommun, som omfattar Alberga och flertalet små byar, blev föremål för undersökning pga. den bristfälliga tillgängligheten till fysisk vård, de underliggande hälsoproblem i kommunen och bristen på sociala mötesplatser. Tillsammans med egna analyser genomfördes en egen enkätundersökning av de offentliga behoven i Stora Sundby där 56 personer medverkade. Enkäten gav en bra bild av vad invånare i trakten ville ha och bekräftade till viss del egna analyser. Undersökningarna resulterade i ett folkets hus med en idrottshall som tillägg. Byggnaden är placerad intill Albergas skola, idrottsplats och idrottsförening för att uppmuntra till en aktiv livsstil i tidig ålder. Folkets hus delen omfattar samlingslokaler, mötesrum, café, rum för föreläsningar och en personalavdelning medan tillägget omfattar en större och en mindre idrottssal, omklädningsrum och ett gym. För att hantera kombinationen av idrottsaktiviteter och sociala aktiviteter blev naturlig ventilation dessutom en viktig utgångspunkt i projektet. Förrådet i idrottssalen fungerar som en tilluftsventil där luft flödar in i byggnaden medan taklanterninerna i de andra byggnadsvolymerna tillåter luft att flöda ut.

The project, a hybrid between a community house and a center for horse led therapy, is designed with the intention of exploring the classic barn typology and modernizing a classical timber technique called bole house or post-and-plank. The building is situated in the northernmost part of the land belonging to Stora Sundby Castle and lies near Alberga city center. Alberga is a small town about 30 minutes southwest of Eskilstuna, with close ties to several bigger cities in Mälardalen like Västerås, Strängnäs, and Kungsör. The building is structured around three functions: therapy, socializing, and experiencing nature and animals. The horse-led therapy, HUI, is located in the east wing and houses rooms that allow the therapist to utilize horses and riding in their practice. The two remaining functions take up the rest of the building, with a variety of social spaces and meeting rooms oriented towards the beautiful forest that the house borders. / Projektet, en hybrid mellan folkets hus och ett center för hästunderstödd terapi, är designat med intentionen att dels utforska den klassiska ladutypologin men också modernisera skiftesverk som är en gammal timmermetod. Byggnaden ligger i den norra delen av slottet Stora Sundbys mark i nära anslutning till Alberga centrum. Alberga är en mindre tätort cirka 30 minuter sydväst om Eskilstuna med nära geografisk koppling till flera större städer i Mälardalen som Västerås, Strängnäs och Kungsör. Byggnaden är strukturerad kring tre huvudfunktioner: terapi, möten och socialisering samt en naturnära upplevelse med hästen i fokus. Den hästunderstödda terapin, HUI, har sin verksamhet i den östra delen av byggnaden och huserar rum som tillåter terapeuten att använda sig av hästar och ridning i sin behandling. De två resterande funktionerna är utspridda i resten av byggnaden med en variation av rum som alla är orienterade mot den närliggande skogen och hästhagarna och är ämnade sociala sammankomster.

Mitos is a proposition for a meditation center in Alberga in Eskilstuna municipality, Sweden. The meditation center offers room for temporary as well as longer stay for visiting guests enjoying the centers dance halls, yoga and meditation studios and saunas. Study spaces and the restaurant on the main entrance floor welcomes the slope buildings most public section. The meditation center also includes group therapy, light room therapy as well as an x-ray room for scientific research in the buildings fourth floor office space.  The slope placement and step-like descent of the building with recycled pale bricks adorned with sedum roofs aims to blend in with the landscape, yet make a powerful contrast by it's tempel reminiscence and squared Symmetry. The building gets its latin name Mitos from being seemingly divided into two equal parts by a 6 meter wide "stramp" (a stair with a diagonally crossing ramp), referencing the cell division phases. The stramp connects with entrances into the step-like building lower part. / Mitos är ett meditationscenter, wellnessretreat och delvis rehabiliteringscenter beläget i sluttningen av en kulle på en avsides väg som leder upp från Alberga Centrum och söderut påväg mot Stora Sundby slott (se situationsplan). Suterrängen har agerat inspiration till idén om en byggnad som i trappliknande avsatser stegvis faller nedför landskapet. Meditationscentrets plats är vidare i hänsyn av siktlinjer då utsikten med siluetten av slottet i förgrunden av Hjälmaren på motsatt sida, utgör en närmast idyllisk landskapskuliss. Valet av material i form av återbrukat tegel och sedumtak är med viss vinkning åt slottets stapplade bleka tegelbandsdetaljer. Sammantaget ämnar byggnaden smälta ihop med landskapet snarare än kontrastera det, även om dess tempelllika och monolitiska anspråk av utrymme oifrånkomligt sticker ut from naturens organiska former.  Sedumtaken är försedda med takbrunnar för dagvattenhantering och fasaderna med hålrumsbrickor. Det första taken vid entrén är belagt med platta solceller som komplement till bergvärme. De två likartade byggnaderna separeras av en trappa med en ramp som löper diagonalt mellan varje avsats med dörrar intill byggnaden via trappan. Trappan fyller en sammanbindande funktion i syfte att främja rörelsen genom landskapet. Samtidigt agerar den som en slags separerande faktor apropå byggnadens namn Mitos, celldelningsprocessen.

The project explores the possibility of a multi-purpose building meant to enhance the lives of the inhabitants of Alberga in Eskilstuna, Sweden. This was done by defining a hybrid program which includes spaces for culture, leisure, education and health. A special part of the program was the inclusion of an "educational greenhouse" which should serve as a hub for greenhouse farming but also as a learning-hub about the possibilities of sustainable food production for present and future use towards a self-sustaining community. Alberga is a rural town, which implies a close geographical tie towards the farming industry. The research that was done showed, however, that most of the inhabitants did not engage or worked in the industry, which effectively demonstrated a mismatch in possible economical and quality-of-life gains from surrounding industry in the form of job opportunities, community-benefits, etc. The project seeks to not only improve the lives of the inhabitants by providing cultural, recreational and training-areas, but also to involve the inhabitants in the sustainable food-production process which is an important aspect for society as a whole but also for future generations to come. / Projektet undersöker möjligheten till en multifunktionell byggnad avsedd att förbättra livet för invånarna i Alberga i Eskilstuna, Sverige. Detta gjordes genom att definiera ett hybridprogram som inkluderar utrymmen för kultur, fritid, utbildning och hälsa. En speciell del av programmet var införandet av ett växthus som ska fungera som ett nav för växthusodling men också som ett lärocentrum för möjligheterna med hållbar matproduktion för nuvarande och framtida användning mot ett självförsörjande samhälle. Alberga är ett landsbygdssamhälle, vilket innebär en nära geografisk anknytning till lantbruket. De undersökningar som gjordes visade dock att de flesta av invånarna inte engagerade sig eller arbetade i industrin, vilket effektivt visade en missmatchning i möjliga ekonomiska- och livskvalitets-vinster från omgivande industri i form av jobbmöjligheter, samhälls-, och gemenskapsförmåner, etc. Projektet syftar till att inte bara förbättra invånarnas liv genom att tillhandahålla kultur-, rekreations- och träningsytor, utan också att involvera invånarna i den hållbara matproduktions-processen som är en viktig aspekt för samhället som helhet men även för kommande generationer.

The project handles a lack of access to services and meeting places in Alberga, Eskilstuna. The community house will be the town´s new social and cultural center and the administrative base of a proposed agricultural cooperative whose purpose is to ensure good and sustainable access to high-quality food and create jobs and a sense of social cohesion. It will be a gathering place for all the residents of the town, an opportunity for the citizens to use the common areas according to their own needs. The building's functions should represent the cooperative's logic, which is why part of the production is located in the community house, which in this way becomes a significant workplace. As an important part of the cooperative activity is to conduct education and research, part of the site houses a representative experimental garden and lab, as well as an open preschool and study and office places. / Projektet syftar till att hantera brister i Alberga, Eskilstuna, såsom liten tillgång till service och tjänster, brist på sociala mötesplatser och aktiviteter. Kooperativhuset blir ortens centrum och administrativ bas för ett föreslaget jordbrukskooperativ vars syfte är att säkra en god och hållbar tillgång till högkvalitativa livsmedel, skapa arbetstillfällen och öka sammanhållningen på orten. Det blir en samlingsplats för alla ortens invånare, en möjlighet för medborgarna att själva utnyttja de gemensamma ytorna efter egna behov. Husets funktioner ska representera kooperativets logik, det är därför en del av produktionen förläggs till medborgarhuset som på så sätt blir en betydande arbetsplats. Då en viktig del av den kooperativa verksamheten är att bedriva utbildning och forskning föreslås också plats för en representativ experimentell trädgård och labb, samt en öppen förskola och studie- och kontorsplatser.

The plot is situated south of the small village Alberga in the south west of the municipality of Eskilstuna. The project is an example of how a landscape can be made accessible for people and through emotional conection be considered worth protecting, and at the same time offer a house for community. This is done with a House for the People - Folkets hus - together with a small spa inspired public bath with a fireplace in is center, and a research facility for conducting limnological and ecological research in the close marshy area and the lake Hjälmaren. The building is situated on top of three man made ponds, one new for the project, held upp by low pillars giving the house a floating impression. The architecture consists of a timber structure suported by rammed earth walls, the earth taken from the site when constructiong af a new pond. The three different usages of the program is separated into its own body and connecting them is a series of walkways, in some places suspended from the timber rafters. The project should... - Bring the community together in a flexible meeting place for many different activities- Preserv and strengthen a landscape´s ecology - Put a small village on the map and build a larger net of interconnectedness / Tomten ligger söder om den lilla byn Alberga i sydvästra Eskilstuna kommun. Projektet är ett exempel på hur ett landskap kan göras tillgängligt för människor och genom känslomässig koppling anses värt att skydda, och samtidigt erbjuda ett hus för gemenskap. Detta görs med en hybridbyggnad av ett Folkets hus tillsammans med ett litet spa-inspirerat bad med öppen spis i centrum samt en forskningsanläggning för att bedriva limnologisk och ekologisk forskning i det närliggande våtmarksmrådet och sjön Hjälmaren. Byggnaden ligger ovanpå tre konstgjorda dammar, en ny för projektet, hållna uppe av låga pelare som ger huset ett flytande uttryck. Arkitekturen består av en limträkonstruktion som bärs upp av stampade jordväggar, jorden hämtad från platsen vid anläggandet av en ny damm. The Blackbird is an all-activity house designed and programmed according to the culture in the countryside. The cornerstones of the project is the construction that allows for a flexible interior and the pursuit of reaching total ecological sustainability. ActivityThe Blackbird is Alberga's all-activity house that encourages creativity, production and organized chaos. Here are premises, equipment and staff that enable activities that may not be so easy to perform at home; activities that require large spaces, expensive equipment or special skills. The building also offers bookable meeting rooms larger rooms for conferences, parties and other events.Activities in The Blackbird:- Studio: painting, drawing, sculpture, exhibition- Music: studio, instruments, podcast- Workshop: sheet metal, wood- Garage: car lift, spray room FlexibilityWith a culture that is constantly evolving and changing, how do you ensure that a building dedicated to cultural activities fulfills its function and remains relevant throughout its entire life? The answer is flexibility. Large CLT elements in collaboration with trusses create long spans and interior space much like a sports hall. Inside the building's load - bearing shell, there are large voids that enable flexible programming of the interior, which means that the building can be adapted to current needs. Local cultureIn the countryside, there is a culture that revolves around vintage cars, motorcycles, and other motorized vehicles. Even within this culture, you will find environmentally conscious car enthusiasts who have begun to convert their vehicles to electric power in step with the global transition from fossil to renewable. This trend should be encouraged and therefore The Blackbird offers a garage containing all the necessary equipment and mechanically skilled personel to help ordinary people electrify their vehicles.  Ecological sustainabilityLocal raw materials: The Blackbird is built with boards of CL-timber made from timber from the trees on the lot. The load-bearing frame structure in CLT is insulated with wood fiber insulation which creates similar qualities to a modern log house. One with nature: flora and fauna enclose the building on the meadow roof and between the pillar construction under the building. Non-toxic materials: a protective membrane of charcoal produced by burning wood (shou sugi ban) gives the building its black color and protects the wood from the weather and wind without using toxic chemicals, paints and plastics. Bio-concrete: the floors in the building must be durable and easy to clean due to the car garage and this environmentally friendly alternative to concrete fits the criteria. SystemElectricity for The Blackbird comes from the local wind and solar energy park. The building has its own treatment plant that produces fertilizer for the local cultivation industry. The water in the taps comes mainly from collected rainwater from the roofs and the FTX ventilation uses the heat / cold in the indoor air. In addition, the air is taken in far outside the building and led through a long pipe under the ground that cools / preheats the intake air. / Koltrasten är ett allaktivitetshus som utformats och programmerats efter kulturen på landsbygden. Grundpelarna i projektet är konstruktionen som tillåter en flexibel interiör samt strävan efter total ekologisk hållbarhet. Svaret är flexibilitet. Stora KL-element i samverkan med fackverk skapar långa spännvidder och invändig rymd likt en idrottshall. Innanför byggnadens bärande skal finns stora tomrum som möjliggör en flexibel programmering och inredning vilket betyder att byggnaden kan anpassas efter aktuella behov.  Lokal kulturPå landsbygden finns det en kultur som kretsar kring veteranbilar, raggarbilar, motorcyklar, EPA-traktorer och andra motoriserade fordon. Även innom denna kutur hittar man mijömedvetna bilfantaster som börjat konvertera sina fordon till eldrift i takt med den globala omställningen från fossilt till förnybart. Denna trend bör uppmuntras och därför finns i Koltrasten idag en stor bilhall innehållande all den nödvändig utrustning och kompetens som krävs för att hjälpa gemene man att konvertera sitt fordon till eldrift.  Ekologisk hållbarhetLokal råvaror: Koltrasten är byggd med KL-skivor som tillverkats av den avverkade granskogen. Bärande stomme och ytskickt i KL-trä som isoleras med träfiberisolering; ett modernt timmerhus helt enkelt. Ett med naturen: flora och fauna omsluter byggnaden på ängstaken och mellan pelarkontruktionen under byggnaden. Giftfria material: en skyddande hinna av förkolning som framställs genom att bränna trä (shou sugi ban) ger byggnaden sin svarta färg och skyddar träet mot väder och vind undan giftiga kemikalier och färger och plaster. Bio-betong: golven i byggnaden måste vara slitstarka i och med bilhallen och därför lämpar sig detta miljövänliga alternativ till betong som ytskikt.  SystemElectricitet till Koltrasten kommer från den lokala vind- och solenenergiparken. Byggnaden har ett eget reningsverk som producerar gödsel till den lokala odlingsindustrin. Rinnanade vatten i kranar kommer främst från uppsamlat regnvatten från taken och FTX-ventilationen tar till vara på värmen/kylan i innomhusluften. Dessutom tas luften in långt utanför byggnaden och leds genom ett långt rör under marken som förkyler/förvärmer in-luften.
