Jak se žije dospělým dětem alkoholiků / How do the adult children of alcoholics liveNavrátilová Štoková, Jana January 2011 (has links)
Metodologická část obsahuje definici výzkumného problému, metody získávání vzorku (samovýběr), metodu získávání dat (nestrukturované interview) a způsob jejich zpracování (narativní analýza, metody zachycení vzorců).

Abstract Ord: 14896 Title: My parent is an addict A qualitative study about being a grown up child to addict parents. Author: Johanna Lundgren The purpose of the study was to investigate how adult daughters of addicts experienced their childhood and how they experienced being affected as children and adults. The study was based on a phenomenological approach and based its empirical data on semi-structured interviews with adult daughters of addicts. The main result showed growing up with several difficult events and the informants claim to have trust issues, a negative self-image or poor self-esteem and that they have taken unreasonable responsibility in relation to their age and situation. Problems in school are also highlighted by everyone in some form. An informant claimed to be a sober alcoholic and a use of other drugs had occurred among the informants. All informants themselves had been in relationships with addicts and all had some social involvement. The results were thematized and as an analysis tool Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory and social learning theory were used.

Prevention of Relationship and Alcohol ProblemsBouma, Ruth Olivia, n/a January 2003 (has links)
There is a strong association between alcohol and relationship problems, with each problem exacerbating the other. In this program of research two studies were conducted. The first study was to investigate the variables that put couples at risk for developing a combination of relationship and alcohol problems. The second study was an evaluation of the effects of an integrated education program that promoted safe drinking and positive relationship interaction. Previous research shows that deficits in negative affect regulation and poor communication predict the onset of both relationship and alcohol problems. Based on these findings, it was hypothesized that deficits in communication exist in couples in which one or both partners drink at hazardous levels. In Study 1 communication of 85 couples (53 couples with no high-risk drinker and 32 couples with at least one at-risk drinker) in early stage committed relationships was assessed by observation of their interaction. Couples in which the man was drinking at hazardous levels had significantly more negative communication than couples without an at-risk drinker. In Study 2, 37 couples with at least one at-risk drinker were randomly assigned to either Controlling Alcohol and Relationship Enhancement (CARE) or a control condition. Couple communication, alcohol consumption, relationship satisfaction and relationship stability were assessed at pre- and post-intervention. Alcohol consumption, relationship satisfaction and relationship stability were also assessed at 6-month follow-up. Couples receiving CARE improved their communication significantly relative to the control couples. Couples in both conditions showed significant reductions in hazardous drinking, but there was no significant difference in the effects of the interventions on alcohol consumption. The program of research demonstrates that deficits in couple communication are evident in couples with hazardous male drinking, even in the early stage of the relationship when the couples report high relationship satisfaction. The communication deficits are remedied with brief, skill-training relationship education. Furthermore, there was evidence for the effects of CARE on reduction of steps towards relationship dissolution at 6-month follow-up. The brief alcohol component of the intervention showed little benefit beyond the control condition in terms of impact upon the alcohol problems. This research is the first to demonstrate that a combined program of skill-based relationship education and strategies for alcohol reduction is effective in remediating communication skills deficits in the early stage relationships of couples with hazardous alcohol consumption. Future research can extend this work to enable the development of programs which match the content of relationship education to the specific needs of other high-risk couples.

Vuxna barn till alkoholmissbrukare : Kvinnors upplevelser av förälderns missbruk och missbrukets påverkan under barndom och vuxenliv / Adult children of alcohol abusers : Women’s experiences of the parent’s drug abuse and the influence of drug abuse during childhood and adultshipHolmstedt, Jenny, Siipo, Erika January 2008 (has links)

/
The purpose of this study is to obtain a deeper insight regarding how a woman can be affected as a child but also as an adult by growing up in a family where one of the parents is an alcohol abuser. The field of interest is to study the childhood environment and its influence on the individual in psychological terms as well as physically and socially. Since earlier research has mainly focused on how boys and men are influenced by growing up in families where one parent is an alcoholic, this study concentrates on women. Aiming to get a deeper insight into the problem area, a qualitative method was chosen, including in-depth interviews with four women. The study reveals several similarities between the four women, including similar functions in the family system, such as loyalty, and which roles the women assumed. The study also suggests certain differences between the women and the families and it is shown that some of the factors influencing these differences are the sex of the alcohol abusing parent and the presence of other adults. Growing up in a family where one parent was an alcoholic has affected the adult women in several ways, for instance has everyone, or had, problems regarding trust and several had problematic relationships with men.

"Why do you want to help me? I've never even been to your home..." : a journey in cross-cultural social work with Aboriginal peopleGarwood, Nicki January 1995 (has links)
The following thesis describes the experiences of a non-Native, female, social worker as a participant-observer among First Nations people. The setting was that of an Intensive Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program for male Aboriginal ex-offenders, held over a period of four months in 1993. The environment was a secluded camp site, situated to the North-East of Montreal. The material describes, in narrative form, the interactions between non-Native and Mohawk workers, and between non-Native worker and Native clients of various cultural backgrounds. Also considered are general issues which affect First Nations peoples, such as alcohol and drug abuse, grief and loss, sexual abuse and the resurgence of traditional Native spiritual practices. Implications of the work reflect on effective cross-cultural communication, and the importance of facilitating appropriate healing processes for First Nations peoples.

The link between social work education and the social worker's reported ability to respond to the needs of anglophone and allophone clients directly or indirectly affected by substance abuse /Lannaman, Christine F. January 1997 (has links)
Statistics corroborate the substantial and deleterious impact of substance abuse to both client and client systems. Social workers are regularly exposed to clients who are directly or indirectly affected by substance abuse. A random survey of social workers working with Anglophone and Allophone populations on the island of Montreal was conducted to evaluate the workers perceived ability to recognize and respond to the needs of this client group. Links were drawn to the various ways in which social workers developed their knowledge about addiction and to the worker's formal social work education. The study demonstrates the inadequacy of the formal social work program to address the problem of substance abuse. The implications for schools of social work and the need to develop core curriculum as well as specializations in substance abuse are presented.

Fenomén viny a odpuštění z pohledu svépomocné skupiny anonymních alkoholiků vybraného okresního města / The Phenomenon of Guilt and Forgiveness from the Point of View of a Self-supporting Group of Alcoholics Anonymous in the Chosen District TownŽILÁKOVÁ, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
The thesis introduces perception of guilt and sin in the Bible, in Christian tradition and in contemporary moral theology. It emphasizes that in the mentioned periods both phenomena belonged in the common talk and to the elemental moral concepts. It deals with perception of guilt (sin) and forgiveness at present and it does not omit the findings of empirical sciences. It takes into consideration the facts which led to the loss or deformation of awareness of both phenomena in the society in general. In practice it conducts the survey of the possible idea of the contemporary state of awareness of guilt and forgiveness and relates it to the specific group of Anonymous Alcoholics.

The objective of this exploratory study was to identify the character profile, quality of life and the use of spiritual religious coping as a coping strategy of stressful circumstances; and check possible associations between the "character" dimension of personality, use of spiritual religious coping and quality of life-taken separated or together —, pattern of alcohol use (on the whole life and in the last year) and sociodemographyc variables between 125 subjects treated on a Reference Center in Hepatology of an Universitary Hospital. Questionnaires were used semi-structured, confidential, anonymous and self applicable containing several variables sociodemographic; consumption of alcohol on the whole life and on the last year; frequency and personal opinions about the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA); personality character dimensions; use of spiritual religious coping and quality of life on the physical, psychological, social, environmental, and global domains. Exploratory and bivariate analysis were performed and, to characterize the relative influence of variables on the outcomes examined, we used logistic regression. The results indicated that, between the assessed patients, was positively identified by the instruments: 54.2%, 52,7% e 50,9% showed scores above average on the scales self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence, respectively. Regarding quality of life, 54,1% on physical, psychological and environmental domains of WHOQOL-BREF scored above average in self-directedness and 51,3% on social domain achieved best scores on this scale; 50% on the other domains achieved scores above average on cooperativeness; 52% on the social domain and above 52% on the other domains of WHOQOL-BREF scored above average on the scale self-transcendence. As for spiritual religious coping (CREN/CREP ratio), 53,7%, 53,9% and 52,6% achieved scores above average on the scales self-directedness, cooperativeness, and self-transcendence, respectively. In logistic regression models developed, it was observed that the higher scores on the self-directedness scale were significantly associated to a better quality of life on the WHOQOL-BREF's psychological domain and to a higher use of positive spiritual religious coping, compared to the negative. Higher scores on the Cooperativeness scale were associated to a better quality of life on social and environmental domains and to a higher use of positive spiritual religious coping, compared to the negative. Higher scores on the auto-transcendence scale were associated to a worse quality of life on the WHOQOL-BREF's physical domain.
