Previous issue date: 2010 / Presenting as theme the filmography of 17 commercials full-length films of Spanish
director Pedro Almodóvar, from “Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón”, 1980, to
“Abraços partidos”, 2009, this paper intends to investigate how film sequences here
nominated media situations assist the filmmaker in the narrative development of his
productions. When identifying the frequency that the filmmaker approaches the mass
media universe during his cinematographic trajectory, the intention is to understand in
which way these media situations can interfere in the characters construction and
generation of events in the films, as a narrative device. For this, the present research related
theoretical studies on the media and the social communication to Almodovar's
filmography, as the occurrence of fait divers in the press, analyzed by Barthes (1977), and
Luhmann's systems theory (2005). / Apresentando como tema a filmografia de 17 longas-metragens comerciais do diretor
espanhol Pedro Almodóvar, de “Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del montón”, de 1980, a
“Abraços partidos”, de 2009, esta dissertação procura investigar de que forma sequências
fílmicas aqui nomeadas de situações de mídia auxiliam o cineasta no desenvolvimento da
narrativa de suas produções. Ao identificar a recorrência com que o cineasta aborda o
universo dos meios de comunicação de massa em sua trajetória cinematográfica, pretendese
compreender como essas situações de mídia podem interferir na construção de
personagens e na geração de acontecimentos nos filmes, como um dispositivo narrativo.
Para isso, buscou-se relacionar estudos teóricos sobre a mídia e a comunicação social com
a filmografia almodovariana, a exemplo da ocorrência de fait divers na imprensa, analisada
por Barthes (1977), e da teoria dos sistemas de Luhmann (2005).

Previous issue date: 2013-12-10 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / This research aims to understand the function of the subject feminine at some films of Pedro Almodóvar. In order to do that, this research uses the archaeological theory of Michel Foucault (2012) and his understanding about statement , discursive meaning and archive . This research exposes aspects of this theoretical route to deal with the initial issues: what to elect in the analysis of a filmic collection, since the women are present in almost of the totality of the director‟s work? How to select and relate the filmic scenes and sequences in this universe of images in movement? In this sense, in the universe of twenty movies of Almodóvar, three of them were selected for this analysis: All about my mother (1999), Talk to her (2002) and Volver (2006). As a result, a constant speech that permeates all his work was identified: the practice among female subjects of taking care of their family . This statement, although it seems common, become astonishing in the movies of this director, because it‟s related to the construction of a speech very common nowadays at the Social Science: the new familiar formations derivative from the practices of female care . / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo compreender a função do sujeito feminino em alguns filmes de Pedro Almodóvar. Para tanto, recorremos principalmente à teoria arqueológica de Michel Foucault, em sua compreensão sobre enunciado , formações discursivas e arquivo . Esta pesquisa expõe aspectos desse percurso teórico para lidar com as questões que se nos apresentaram inicialmente: o que eleger na análise de um acervo fílmico, uma vez que em quase todos os textos, no caso, deste diretor, as mulheres se fazem presentes? Como selecionar e relacionar as cenas e/ou as sequências fílmicas, nesse universo de imagens em movimento? No sentido exposto, debruçamo-nos inicialmente frente aos vinte filmes de Almodóvar e delimitamos três deles para a análise: Tudo sobre minha mãe (1999), Fale com ela (2002) e Volver (2006). Como resultado, observou-se a presença constante de um enunciado que permeou o trabalho: a prática dos cuidados realizados por sujeitos femininos em seus familiares . Este enunciado, embora pareça comum, torna-se surpreendente nos filmes deste diretor, pois está vinculado à formação de um discurso bastante atual, nas Ciências Humanas, em particular: as novas constituições familiares derivadas das práticas do cuidado feminino .

Les représentations queer au cinéma : l'abus sexuel au masculin et son incidence sur l'identifé et la sexualité des personnages de "La mauvaise éducation" (2004) de Pedro Almodovar et "Mysterious Skin" (2004) de Gregg ArakiDion, Isabelle 24 April 2018 (has links)
Cette étude propose l’analyse de représentations queer dans le cinéma des années 2000. Plus précisément, elle porte sur la façon dont l’abus sexuel au masculin est représenté dans deux films produits en 2004, soit La mauvaise éducation (La mala educación), du réalisateur espagnol Pedro Almodovar, et Mysterious Skin, du réalisateur étatsunien Gregg Araki. À l’aide de la réflexion contenue dans Ça arrive aussi aux garçons : l’abus sexuel au masculin du sociologue Michel Dorais, l’objectif vise à démontrer comment cet événement traumatique influence de manière significative la construction identitaire et sexuelle des personnages principaux. De manière plus générale, ce mémoire positionne ces deux réalisateurs dans la grande et riche lignée du cinéma queer, qui met en scène des désirs hors norme et des identités sexuelles alternatives. Le premier chapitre porte sur les théories queer et ses diverses manifestations au grand écran. Il permet par la suite de réunir Almódovar et Araki dans une même étude et de souligner la pertinence de cette réunion. Le deuxième chapitre s’intéresse, à l’aide d’analyses d’extraits significatifs des films, à la façon dont chacun met en scène l’abus sexuel au masculin et comment cet événement se présente dans la vie des protagonistes. Le dernier chapitre se penche sur la construction identitaire et sexuelle des personnages principaux, afin de mieux comprendre l’incidence de l’abus sexuel. Jumelée aux travaux de Judith Butler, l’approche queer sera donc mise de l’avant dans cette étude qui se montre d’emblée attentive, d’un point de vue cinématographique, aux notions de sexe, de genre et de désir, et ce, à travers l’analyse de plusieurs extraits filmiques et d’éléments à la fois narratifs et structurels particulièrement significatifs quant à la représentation de l’abus sexuel au masculin. / This study proposes to analyze queer cinema representations in the 2000s. It focuses on how the male sexual abuse is shown in two films released in 2004, Bad Education (La mala educación), from the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, and Mysterious Skin, from the American director Gregg Araki. Applying ideas from sociologist Michel Dorais, in his 1997 book, Ça arrive aussi aux garçons: l’abus sexuel au masculin, we aim to show how this event significantly influences the identity and the sexual construction of the films’ main characters. More generally, this study places these two directors in the large and rich tradition of queer cinema, which focuses on unconventional desires and sexual identities. The first chapter deals specifically with queer theory main ideas and its various manifestations in cinema, which allows us to bring Almodóvar and Araki together in one study and to emphasize the relevance of this reunion. The second chapter focuses on significant scenes from the movies that show how each director presents male sexual abuse and how this event reflects on the lives of the protagonists. Finally, the last chapter analyses problems of identity and sexual construction in the main characters, to see how sexual abuse has affected them. Coupled with the work of Judith Butler, the queer approach in film studies is therefore adapted in this thesis, in order to emphasize the importance of concepts like genre, sexuality, and the manifestations of desire through the analysis of several scenes from the corpus. Therefore, particularly significant narrative and structural elements, as regards to the representation of male sexual abuse in cinema, will be studied
