With the aid of some results from the theory of fields we show that such problems can not be solved by the use of only a nongraduated ruler and compass. We present the conchoid, cissoidd and quadratrix curves (also called trissectors) along with their equations. Finally, we present alternative solutions to the three classic problems and highlight how some of the curves previously presented can help such solutions. / Este trabalho é sobre os três problemas clássicos da Geometria Grega: a duplicação do cubo, a trissecção do ângulo e a quadratura do círculo. Com o auxílio de alguns resultados da teoria dos corpos mostramos que tais problemas não podem ser resolvidos com o uso apenas de régua não graduada e compasso. Apresentamos as curvas conchóide, cissóide e quadratriz (também chamada de trissectriz) junto com suas equações. Por fim, fazemos a exposição de soluções alternativas para os três problemas clássicos e destacamos como alguma das curvas apresentadas anteriormente pode auxiliar tais soluções.

The Effect of Instruction in Alternative Solutions on American Ninth-Grade Algebra I Students' Problem Solving Performance

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the use of an Alternative-Solution Worksheet (ASW) on American ninth-grade students' problem solving performance, and to determine the extent to which instruction in alternative solutions promotes "look back" strategies. "Look back" strategies are based on Polya's (1973) problem solving steps, and they are an examination of what was done or learned previously. The ASW was designed to encourage students to utilize "look back" strategies by generating alternative solutions to the problems. This mixed-methods study was conducted with two existing groups of ninth-grade Algebra I students. An experimental group of 18 students received instruction in utilizing the ASW for two 55-minute class periods a week for a period of four weeks. A comparison group of 14 students did not receive any instruction. Data for this study were collected by pre- and post-testing, ASWs, focus groups, and one student's "think aloud" process. For the quantitative analysis, a one-way ANCOVA was conducted to determine if there was a significant difference in the mean post-test scores between the experimental group and the comparison group. The students' pre-test score was the covariate. The findings indicated that the experimental group scored slightly better on the post-test, and R2=.345, a medium effect size. There were no significant correlations between the ASW scores and the pre- and post-test scores, but the ASW scores were significantly correlated with the students' EXPLORE9 math and reading percentiles. The qualitative findings indicated that "look back" occurred at all six levels of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy, but it is the "look back" that occurs at the upper three levels, in the context of higher order thinking skills, that results in better mathematical problem solving abilities. In addition, positive affective changes were evident despite little improvement in students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The results of this study indicated that higher order thinking skills need to be practiced regularly so students can use them effectively.

The new compensation provisions of the Expropriation Act / De nya ersättningsbestämmelserna i Expropriationslagen

In 2010 the compensation provisions of the Expropriation act changed and the proposals made in the bill (prop. 1971: 122) and which this essay takes focus on was to introduce a standard increment of 25% and to abolish the rule of presumption that limited the right for compensation for so-called expectation values. The essay examines the investigation behind the changes of the compensation provisions of the Expropriation act and outlines the propositions’ and respondents' cited pros and cons of the adjustments. The aim of the study is to explain what motivated the adjustments of the Expropriation act and to investigate whether there were alternative proposals for the changes introduced. The main motive behind the standard increment was that the private ownership would be strengthened and that the compensation would be determined closer to the market value and thus become more fair and equitable. In addition to this the intention with the changes were to adapt the compensation to the contemporary conditions. Alternative solutions to the standard increment that was proposed in the investigation was that the standard increment is limited only to be added to the value of current land use and not expectation values. Most of the respondents were in general optimistic to adjusting the rules for compensation with the motives that private ownership should be strengthened and that the regulation should be adapted to modern conditions. Many respondents anticipated that the changes of the compensation provisions would lead to a more reasonable and fair balance between individual and public interests. / År 2010 ändrades ersättningsbestämmelserna i expropriationslagen och de förslag som lämnades i propositionen (prop. 1971:122) och som uppsatsen fokuserar på var bland annat att införa ett schablonpåslag på 25 % samt att upphäva presumtionsregeln som begränsade ersättningsrätten för så kallade förväntningsvärden. Uppsatsen redogör för hur utredningen gått till vid införandet av de nya ersättningsbestämmelserna i ExL, propositionens anföranden samt remissinstansernas framförda för- och nackdelar med ändringsförslagen. Målet med undersökningen är att redogöra för motiven bakom ändringarna i expropriationslagen samt att undersöka om det fanns alternativa förslag till införda ändringar. Det huvudsakliga motivet bakom det schabloniserade påslaget var att den enskilda äganderätten skulle stärkas samt att ersättningen fortsättningsvis skulle bestämmas närmare marknadsvärdet och därmed bli mer rättvis och skälig. Utöver detta syftade ändringarna till att anpassa ersättningsregleringen till nutida förhållanden. Alternativa lösningar till schablonpåslaget har anförts i utredningen och det alternativ som uppmärksammats är en begränsning av ersättning för schablonpåslaget till att enbart läggas till värdet av pågående markanvändning och inte förväntningsvärden. De flesta remissinstanserna var positiva till ändring av ersättningsbestämmelserna vilket motiverades med att äganderätten borde stärkas och att regleringen borde anpassas till nutida förhållanden. Många remissinstanser ansåg att reglerna skulle medföra en rimlig och rättvis fördelning mellan enskilda och allmänna intressen.

Program Leniency v kartelovém právu a jeho následky v praxi / The Leniency programme in cartel law and its consequences in practice

The final thesis deals with the Leniency programme, as one of the most important instrument of the Office for the Protection of Competition and the European Commission for detecting of cartel agreements. The aim of the thesis is to analyze regulation of the Leniency programme in the Czech Republic, from the practical point of view find out how participants of cartel agreements use the programme and whether it is effective from the view of the Office for the Protection of Competition. The thesis should also involve formation and development of the programme and how it is influenced by European law. The thesis is divided into 4 parts. The first part deals with cartel agreements. The second part focuses on cartel law enforcement which is divided in term of law regulation into public and private enforcement. The third part is the core of the theoretical part of the thesis, it presents in detail the regulation of the Leniency programme within the European Union and in the Czech Republic, there are problems of the program and their possible solutions outlined as well. The fourth part concerns the practical point of view of the Leniency programme, its harmonization among the member states of the European Union and its application in the Czech Republic in decisions of the Office for the Protection of Competition.
