Optimal bredbandig vågform framtagen genom generaliserad osäkerhetsfunktion

Erninger, Mikael, Nordenberg, Mattias January 2005 (has links)
The waveform of a radar signal affects the resolution in velocity and distance. The ambiguity function is used as an aid for analysing narrow band radar signals simultaneously in time and frequency. An analysing tool for wide band radar signals is missing. This thesis describes a generalised ambiguity function to be utilised for study of wide band signals. Waveforms are further synthesised with help of the developed analysing tool. The aim is to start with a certain ambiguity function and find a waveform that reproduces the same ambiguity function. Mathematical formulas are presented and implemented in Matlab to produce the wide band ambiguity function. Functions for developing waveforms by synthesis is also implemented. It turns out that the Hermitian functions used as base functions do not preserve the orthogonality when implemented as wide band signals. The synthesis is not fully successful. Therefore an alternative method with numerical optimisation is used in an attempt to find an optimal waveform.

Contracting under Heterogeneous Beliefs

Ghossoub, Mario 25 May 2011 (has links)
The main motivation behind this thesis is the lack of belief subjectivity in problems of contracting, and especially in problems of demand for insurance. The idea that an underlying uncertainty in contracting problems (e.g. an insurable loss in problems of insurance demand) is a given random variable on some exogenously determined probability space is so engrained in the literature that one can easily forget that the notion of an objective uncertainty is only one possible approach to the formulation of uncertainty in economic theory. On the other hand, the subjectivist school led by De Finetti and Ramsey challenged the idea that uncertainty is totally objective, and advocated a personal view of probability (subjective probability). This ultimately led to Savage's approach to the theory of choice under uncertainty, where uncertainty is entirely subjective and it is only one's preferences that determine one's probabilistic assessment. It is the purpose of this thesis to revisit the "classical" insurance demand problem from a purely subjectivist perspective on uncertainty. To do so, we will first examine a general problem of contracting under heterogeneous subjective beliefs and provide conditions under which we can show the existence of a solution and then characterize that solution. One such condition will be called "vigilance". We will then specialize the study to the insurance framework, and characterize the solution in terms of what we will call a "generalized deductible contract". Subsequently, we will study some mathematical properties of collections of vigilant beliefs, in preparation for future work on the idea of vigilance. This and other envisaged future work will be discussed in the concluding chapter of this thesis. In the chapter preceding the concluding chapter, we will examine a model of contracting for innovation under heterogeneity and ambiguity, simply to demonstrate how the ideas and techniques developed in the first chapter can be used beyond problems of insurance demand.

Ambiguous signs: the role of the Kanga as a medium of communication

Beck, Rose Marie 09 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This article deals with the communicative uses of the printed wrap cloth kanga. Specifically I will show how the kanga is constituted as a communicative sign and is at the core of ambiguation processes that are pervasive to this communicative genre. Because of its high degree of ambiguity the question arises whether we can, for communication by way of kanga, still speak of communication in any sense. In my opinion, we can only do so if it is possible to analyze the communication process within existing models of communication. Starting from the hypothesis that the kanga indeed has communicative potential communication is understood as social interaction, whereby the focus is not solely on meanings in a pragmatic or semantic sense, but rather on social meaning, i.e. the negotiation of relationships between the interactants in an area of tension between individual, social and cultural interests (within which meaning in a linguistic sense does play a role, too) (Anderson & Meyer 1988, Burgoon et aL 1996). This will be shown in the fust part of the analysis. In the second part of this article I will describe and explain the role of the medium kanga within this process of ambiguation. This article is based on material collected during two field periods in 1994/ 1995 and 1996 in Mombasa and, from 1995 onwards, in various archives in the Netherlands and Switzerland.

A Study of Influence of Relative Dominance in Human Resource Management of Dispatched Enterprises and User Enterprises on Dispatched Workers¡¦ Cognition of Employer Liability

Li, Ching-chiu 12 August 2010 (has links)
This study investigates influence of relative dominance in human resource management (HRM) of dispatched enterprises and user enterprises on dispatched worker¡¦s cognition of employer liability. Hopefully, this study could serve as basis for management in dispatched enterprise and user enterprises.Questionnaires were administered to Taiwanese dispatched workers to study relationships among and influence of individual variables (as control variable), HRM in user enterprises and dispatched enterprises (recruitment, training, compensation and benefits and performance appraisal as independent variable) and employees¡¦ cognition of employer liability (as dependent variable). Results show that relative dominance in HRM of user enterprises and dispatched enterprises dictate employees¡¦ cognition of employer liability. Dispatched workers have higher cognition of employer liability for dispatched firms when dispatched enterprises are of high dominance in HRM. On the other hand, dispatched workers have higher cognition of employer liability for user enterprises when user enterprises are of high dominance in HRM. In addition to relative dominance in HRM, positions that dispatched workers occupy also significantly influence cognition of employer liability: dispatched workers who hold professional jobs have higher cognition of employer liability toward dispatched enterprises.

A Channel Coding Scheme for Solving Ambiguity in OFDM Systems Using Blind Data Detector

Hong, Guo-fong 31 July 2012 (has links)
In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, blind estimator was proposed which can obtain high bandwidth efficiently. There is a serious ambiguity problem in blind data detector structure. Solution methods can divide into three cases: pilot signal, superimposed training, and channel coding. In order to achieve totally blind estimate, we use channel coding to solve ambiguity in this thesis. In previous study, it had been use low-density-parity-check code (LDPC) to solve ambiguity, and proposed an encoding method to avoid ambiguity for BPSK. However, we consider generic linear block code (LBC) and want to extend BPSK modulation to higher modulation scheme, including QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM. For any constellation follows grey coding, we induct a difference of inner product for ambiguity and derive some sufficient conditions for LBC. If LBC satisfy some conditions, then it could avoid ambiguity between valid code words and it can achieve totally blind estimate. In simulation section, for data estimate, we respectively use two LBC cases, which exist ambiguity or not. In order to be fair, we insert a pilot to solve ambiguity in LBC, which exist ambiguity. In simulation results, the performance of two cases is similar in high signal to noise ratio (SNR). In other words, if we use proper channel code which it satisfy sufficient conditions, then we can increase bandwidth efficiently.

An Examination Of Quantifier Scope Ambiguity In Turkish

Kurt, Kursad 01 September 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates the problem of quantifier scope ambiguity in natural languages and the various ways with which it has been accounted for, some of which are problematic for monotonic theories of grammar like Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG) which strive for solutions that avoid non-monotonic functional application, and assume complete transparency between the syntax and the semantics interface of a language. Another purpose of this thesis is to explore these proposals on examples from Turkish and to try to account for the meaning differences that may be caused by word order and see how the observations from Turkish fit within the framework of CCG.

Range/doppler Ambiguity Resolution For Medium Prf Radars

Cuhadaroglu, Burak 01 February 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Range and Doppler measurement of targets for medium PRF radars is handicapped by folding and blind regions. This requires use of multiple PRFs and a resolver algorithm. The aim of the thesis is to develop various algorithms for the task and estimate their performance. Four different range and Doppler resolver algorithms and a test software is developed by using Matlab &reg / GUI and their performances due to the selected radar parameters in a multi- target environment are examined.

The Kafkaesque Theme Of Menace In Harold Pinter

Toprak, Elif 01 May 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Harold Pinter is deeply intrigued by Franz Kafka&rsquo / s fiction. Both writers&rsquo / works are imbued with ambiguity or mystery, and the feelings of disintegration, evasiveness, and domination. The atmosphere of menace and terror permeate their works. Kafka&rsquo / s fiction is characterized by the existence of an invisible guilt, a prevailing sense of ambivalence and the impossibility to obtain knowledge from the omnipotent sources. The mainspring of menace in Pinter is usually the outside forces, which are latent and invisible. In Pinter&rsquo / s violent dramatic world, the individuals are subjected to an unreasonable treatment of torture, imprisonment and dehumanization. His recurrent theme of torture is in fact traceable to Kafka&rsquo / s themes of punishment and execution. The characters can find comfort neither in their physical surroundings nor in an understanding relationship with others, and finally they are driven into a state of disintegration of self-image. Man&rsquo / s predicament is reflected in a layered manner, embarking on his relationship with the outside world, and then moving towards his inner anguish about the self. This study focuses on the common aspects of the two literary figures in terms of the concept of menace. The sense of menace is reflected in certain human feelings like fear, insecurity and hopelessness. Menace may appear in a number of ways including physical, psychological and mental ways. However, the characters, in both Kafka&rsquo / s and Pinter&rsquo / s works, make use of some defense mechanisms to cope with menace. Evasiveness and inaction are efficient in situations where the dominant character exerts his power by means of the information obtained through questioning the victim. Pinter&rsquo / s characters also remain silent to protect themselves from the torture and violence exerted by the mechanism. The characters also question the system to gain insight to its true nature. Lastly, the individuals seek relief in self-delusion and denial of reality as the reality itself is essentially ruthless. All these coping strategies, however, prove fruitless in the end, and both Kafka&rsquo / s and Pinter&rsquo / s characters become a victim of unspecified menace.

Chen, Tsuen-Ho 28 August 2001 (has links)
ABSTRACT Employee is important human resource in the organization, It plays the important role among organizational development and product performance, So organizational behavior of employee must be emphasized, To probe on survivor¡¦s employee job stress for privatization of government enterprise is still worth researching. Data analysis on software package of SPSS 9.0 for window used personal computer in this study. Method of analysis has description analysis, factor, correlation analysis, multi-regression, hierarchy multi-regression and ANOVA analysis. The important discoveries of this research is described as follow: 1. There are significant positive correlation between stressor and job stress, It is more influential for job stress that focus on business performance after privatization, role conflict and role ambiguity. 2. The lowest job stress that below junior high school than others, the highest job stress that investment and development department than others. 3. Higher job stress that type A than type B and external control than internal control. 4. The interaction of role conflict with locus of control has effect of moderation to job stress. 5. Difference of stressor due to different personal variables. (1)There are single, less than fifty years old, product staff, less than fifteen years service, below high school degree, Hualien staff , Who consider that stressor due to physical environment. (2)There are male, engineer, investment and development department, Hsinchu staff, Who consider that stressor due to work load. (3)There are engineer, less than forty years old, below junior college degree, Who consider that stressor due to business performance after privatization. (4)There are less than forty years old, general staff, Who consider that stressor due to role ambiguity. (5)There are investment and development department, Hsinchu staff, Who consider that stressor due to role conflict. According to conclusion of study ,The related suggestion to employee and enterprise could be give the benefit of stress management for employee and it also improve work environment that would decrease bad environment factor which induced job stress.

What did you say? : A study of communication with links to anxiety during a merger. / Vad sa du? : En studie av kommunikation med länkar till oro under en fusion.

Almqvist, Jenny, Johansson, Caroline January 2002 (has links)
<p>This thesis aims to explore the area of communication and its links to anxiety. The methods used are interviews in conjunction with a grounded theory approach. We found that there are several different types of misunderstandings that can occur between management and employees, which also cause the level of anxiety felt among the employees to rise. Important aspects to consider for management seem to be to use several communication channels and choose the appropriate channel depending on the content of the message. It is also necessary for management to convey information on the same knowledge level as the employees and to take the interests of the employees into account when deciding what information to give them. To create a positive attitude and to avoid ambiguous messages will also improve communication and lessen the anxiety felt.</p> / <p>Denna uppsats avser att undersöka ämnet kommunikation och dess länkar till oro.
