Expoentes mercantis e dinâmica de negócios: a família Dias de Milão (1580-1624) / Exponents market and business dynamics: the family Dias of Milan (1580-1624)

Silvia Carvalho Ricardo 28 August 2014 (has links)
The maritime expansion that occurred during the XV and XVI centuries reconfigured the mercantile activities in Europe and led to the dissemination of commercial centers and sources of commodities on new places of Asia, America and Africa. The transcontinental treat and finances gained complexity that substantiated itself in global trade networks. Portugal was the incubator of a great deal of those multiplying family networks that started to have businesses in all fronts of the colonial treat. At the beginning of the XVII century, the great Portuguese estates were transferred to Amsterdam and Hamburg. New-Christian families had significant importance in commercial dealings, among them the Dias de Milão family, persecuted and arrested by the Inquisition that reappeared in Amsterdam and Hamburg with great outwork on international commerce

The wreck of the Dutch man o' war, Amsterdam, in December 1817 on the Eastern Cape coast of Southern Africa: an elucidation of the literary and material remains with an annotated translation of the Journal of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer (1814-1818)

Bennie, Jennifer Shirley January 1998 (has links)
This study endeavours to elucidate the journal of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer of the Dutch man 0' war, Amsterdam, which has been transcribed from the original script, translated from Dutch into English and interpreted from a contemporary viewpoint. It offers an opportunity to evaluate a unique primary historical document which records an important historical event. An attempt has been made to contextualise the incident in the light of the early history of the Dutch people. The contribution of the Dutch East India Company (VaC) to the trade and commerce of the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries has been assessed together with the shipbuilding techniques that served to make the Dutch a major seafaring nation. The significance of Texel and Nieuwediep has been examined and the sea route and navigational instruments placed in perspective. The voyage has been analysed in some detail. The background of Captain Hermanus Hofmeijer has proved especially interesting. Although he pursued his career with the Dutch Navy, he was born and spent his early years in Cape Town, South Africa. The time spent by the Amsterdam in Batavia, Samaraog and Sourabaya gives an insight into the Dutch possessions overseas. The return voyage, storms and ultimate grounding are of special interest as Hofmeijer records the journey and events on a daily basis. The impact and significance of 217 extra people in the Eastern Cape area did not go unnoticed, and although the event was not well documented, an attempt at some contextualisation has been made. Finally a short overview of maritime archaeology in South Africa and its significance as a relatively new discipline has been included. The study of the material remains of the wreck of the Amsterdam has resulted in a new understanding of wooden ships built in the early 19th century.

Kamee - Die Vergestalting van skuld en vergifnis in 30 nagte in Amsterdam (Etienne Van Heerden)

Hattingh, Roela January 2013 (has links)
Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Afrikaans / unrestricted

The ABC's of Placemaking Governance : Learning from Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen / Placemaking processer i lokala myndigheter : Lärdomar från Amsterdam, Berlin och Köpenhamn

Wolfram, Filemon January 2021 (has links)
Placemaking is an approach to designing urban spaces based on their existing values and identities. It has emerged as a response to citizens wishing to have an active role in the planning process and influence the development of their own surroundings. Placemaking often occurs from spontaneous consequences, with a diverse range of urban stakeholders involved in the process. Leading these complex processes has required local authorities to rethink their approach to urban governance. Despite municipalities being key actors in placemaking contexts, their role in the process is not well understood. Through a comparative case study of Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen, this thesis examines how local authorities have interpreted and contributed to placemaking. The cities are analysed with a theoretical framework consisting of their governance structures, spatial leadership roles, placemaking tools and facilitation of public participation. The results indicate that municipalities interpret placemaking to involve public participation in a place-bound approach. A wide range of stakeholders were identified to be involved in the placemaking process, including local authorities, artists, neighbourhood associations, leisure time clubs, civic interest groups and private property developers. The roles of these actors were found to vary greatly from project to project. The study concludes that – despite some opportunistic flexibility – the municipalities of Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen generally take on a more observing, follower-dominant and bottom-linked role in the placemaking process. This observation implies that during the 21st century, cities have adopted a significantly more adaptive and observant role in their urban governance processes. This is especially evident within the placemaking context, which embraces the idea of co-creation and collaboration.

Les suites instrumentales issues des opéras de Lully publiées à Amsterdam : études historique, philologique et musicale sur l’éditeur Estienne Roger (1665/66 - 1722) / The instrumental suites from the operas of Lully published in Amsterdam : historical, philological and musical studies on the publisher Estienne Roger (1665/66 - 1722)

Shichijo, Megumi 24 January 2017 (has links)
The operas of Jean-Baptiste de Lully (1632-1687) enjoyed a European diffusion both during his lifetime and posthumously. Among the countries where his operas aroused a real enthusiasm, Holland enjoyed a special situation. Indeed, the operas appeared both in theaters and in music publishing. Concerning musical publishing, the city of Amsterdam occupied a primordial role, where Lully's operas were published not only in scores, but also in vocal and instrumental extracts, the last of which could be considered as the instrumental suites. These suites constitute an exceptional corpus in the diffusion of Lully's opera, as they are arranged in 4 parts instead of the 5 originally presented and played an intermediate role between the French opera and the German orchestra suite. Among the publishers contributing to this phenomenon, we must distinguish a publisher who has carried out the extensive marketing: Estienne Roger (1665/66 - 1722). In the researches about Roger, the publication of Italian instrumental music and international trade were two major issues. Yet the place of French music in his editions has not been sufficiently evaluated, although it has reached as much as a third. This thesis deals with the commercial and editorial character of this field, focusing on the suites resulting from the Lully’s operas. Three points will be examined: Roger's advantage as a Huguenot bookseller, his use of catalogs in the sale of Lully's works, musical features of the suites through the arrangement.
