The explanation of An Autumn Scene of Shatin

Yen, Maiw-Rong 04 July 2000 (has links)
An Autumn Scene of Shatin was composed between March and April, 2000. This ensemble piece is written for solo soprano, female chorus, clarinet, bassoon, violin, violoncello, piano and percussion (one player). The composition was named after the poem An Autumn Scene of Shatin, written by Prof. Yu Chung-Kwuang. The composer tried to express the images of the poem by word-painting. The designs of musical structure and the text were tightly connected. The form of this work is through-composed. It can be divided into four parts£º Adagio - Un poco animato - Chorale grandioso - Adagio. At the two-third length of the work, the composer quoted the Renaissance Mass L¡¯homme arm¨¨ to present special sound. Most of the main melodies of this piece are sung by solo soprano, and the transitions between sections are played by female chorus and instrumentalists. The manipulation of texture is an important element. The vocal pitch material is based on interval. On the other hand, the overall instrument pitch is used with tone row. The special technique of strings with overtones, pizzcato, glissando, col legno and sul ponticello are illustrated to create extraordinary effects. This exquisite piece is like a miniature tone poem with words.

Pictures at an Exhibition: a Reconciliation of Divergent Perceptions about Mussorgsky's Renowned Cycle

Nagachevskaya, Svetlana January 2009 (has links)
This research is consecrated to Mussorgsky's famous cycle of character pieces, Pictures at an Exhibition. The author of this study examines, analyzes, and compares divergent perceptions about Mussorgsky's renowned cycle that have emerged among Mussorgsky scholars in Russia and abroad. Due to the fact that there is such an array of diverse viewpoints about Pictures at an Exhibition, some of which are conflicting or even contradictory, there is need to collect, expose, and discuss these findings. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to come to a better understanding of Mussorgsky's composition through a thorough examination of internal evidence and through studying the various insights presented by numerous Mussorgsky researchers. The discoveries shared by Western and Russian scholars will then help performers create a more authentic interpretation of Pictures at an Exhibition based on a solid foundation of knowledge. The other goal of this study is to introduce viewpoints and ideas shared by Russian researchers in the materials that are unavailable in English. These numerous findings shared by Russian scholars may help popularize and promote Mussorgsky's work among the non-Russian readers and performers, as well as introduce Russian perception about Mussorgsky's cycle. Another objective of this document is to study and analyze the composer's score markings, in order to draw performers' attention to this important link between a performer and the composer. Mussorgsky's detailed score markings represent a unique message, in which the composer gives direct and explicit instructions toward interpretation. Therefore, a wise performer would choose to pay close attention to these suggestions in order to create a meaningful performance. This document is organized in three chapters. Chapter I represents an overview of the life and traditions of Russian society in the 18th and 19th centuries; it describes the beginning of the nationalistic movement in Russian music and outlines some significant facts from Mussorgsky's life. Chapter II is dedicated to the genesis and structural analysis of Pictures at an Exhibition. Chapter III explores the divergent perceptions about Mussorgsky's suite expressed by Russian and Western researchers. Illustrations by Victor Hartmann and other Russian painters accompany this document as well as a many musical examples.

Anknytningskompetens inom förskolan : -med fokus på inskolning / Attachments skills in preschol : -focusing on the induction

Anne-Lie, Ahlberg, Rinaldo Stoor, Lena January 2013 (has links)

Sistemática de seis espécies de Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) Blanchard (Diptera: Culicidae) / Systematic of six species of the Anopheles

Maysa Tiemi Motoki 14 September 2007 (has links)
Objetivos Caracterizar morfologicamente e molecularmente o An. oswaldoi s.s.; caracterizar morfologicamente cinco espécies do complexo An. albitarsis; estabelecer caracteres morfológicos que permitam a separação entre as espécies do complexo An. albitarsis; solucionar problema de nomenclatura de An. marajoara. Resultados Os adultos machos e fêmeas, larvas de quarto estadio e pupas de An. oswaldoi s.s., An. albitarsis s.s., An. marajoara e An.deaneorum foram redescritos, e descritos aqueles de An. albitarsis B e An. albitarsis E. Os resultados das análises multivariadas dos caracteres morfométricos demonstraram que é possível separar as cinco espécies do complexo An. albitarsis. / Introduction The Anopheles oswaldoi and An. albitarsis complexes contain morphologically cryptic species, including some important vectors of human malaria. Species diagnosis within each complex is problematic due to polymorphisms and overlapping morphological characters in identification keys and many times must employ molecular biology methods. Although correct identification is necessary to evaluate the respective epidemiological importance of each species, there exist few studies that have characterized the morphological characters of the An. oswaldoi and An. albitarsis complexes. Objectives Morphologically and molecularly characterize An. oswaldoi s.s.; morphologically characterize five species of the An. albitarsis complex; establish morphological characters that separate species of the An. albitarsis complex; resolve nomenclature problems within An. marajoara. Methods- Specimens used originated from the entomological collections of the Departamento de Epidemiologia of the Faculdade de Saúde Pública (Universidade de São Paulo), from the Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro and from Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (Rio de Janeiro) in Brazil and of the National Museum of Natural History (USA). The adult females, male genitalia, fourthinstar larvae and pupae from six species of Nyssorhynchus and the firstinstar larva of An. albitarsis s.s. were described and illustrated. Forty adult female characters were identified form five species of the An. albitarsis complex. Multivariate statistics were used in the morphometric analyses. Results Adult males and females, fourth-instar larvae and pupae of An.oswaldoi s.s., An. albitarsis s.s., An. marajoara and An. deaneorum were redescribed. Those of An. albitarsis B and An. albitarsis E were described. Results from multivariate analyses of morphological characters separated the five species of the An. albitarsis complex. To promote the nomenclature stability of An. marajoara, the male-genitalia slide associated with the holotype was invalidated. Conclusions It was possible to characterize An. oswaldoi s.s. using both morphological characters and molecular markers. Results from morphometric analyses showed that it is possible a morphological distinction among all five species, and that the specimens of An. marajoara may belong to two distinct species.

Using Molecular Diagnostics Based On Internal Transcribed Spacer 2 Sequence To Study Geographical Distribution of Holarctic Malaria Mosquitoes

Hodge, James Michael 20 May 2020 (has links)
Diseases like malaria claim the lives of millions of people every year. This deadly disease can result in considerable morbidity, which presently affects countries in Africa, Eurasia, and South America. Anopheline mosquitoes transmit this disease. Studies look at the identification first of the species to accurately determine their distribution. For identification, sequencing of the Internal Transcribed Spacer 2 region of the ribosomal DNA is analyzed. Although African Anophelines are very well studied species, there has been no recent significant research for Holarctic Anophelines. In particular, in North America and Eurasia, because of the eradication of malaria in the northern territories and the focus on other diseases transmitted by Aedes and Culex mosquitoes. In this study, we first look at the Holarctic species Anopheles punctipennis in North America from the Midwest to the eastern United States. Then we look at samples received from Eurasia, in particular Russia and Iran. We physically harvested 500 mosquitoes from ten breeding sites to analyze the identity and distribution of An. punctipennis. We received 110 samples from Russia and 180 samples from Iran to examine the identification and geographic distribution of An. daciae and An. persiensis. Mosquito ITS2 ribosomal DNA was extracted and amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. The PCR products were then sequenced and analyzed based on GenBank information obtained. An analysis by Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism using ITS2 PCR products on An. punctipennis was conducted. Seven hundred ninety samples were processed to look at the identity and geographic distribution of Holarctic Anophlines. An. puntipennis has no current ITS2 records in GenBank. The distribution of An. daciae and An. persiensis was analyzed by ITS2 and location data. The identity and presence of a malaria vector in new areas or existing areas would prove to be vital if the disease were to re-emerge due to climate changes. / Master of Science in Life Sciences / Diseases like malaria claims the lives of millions of people every year. This deadly disease can result in considerable morbidity which presently affects countries in Africa, Eurasia, and South America. Anopheline mosquitoes transmit this disease. African Anophelines are very well studied species however, there has been no recent significant research for Holarctic Anophelines, in particular in the United States because of the eradication of malaria in the northern territories and the focus on other diseases transmitted by Aedes and Culex mosquitoes. One of the understudied neglected malaria vectors that has an extensive geographic distribution throughout the United States is Anopheles punctipennis. This species can transmit both forms of human malaria Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. Accurate morphological or molecular identification of mosquitoes is important for proper surveillance, control and diagnostic measures. Identifying this mosquito on a molecular level is pivotal for future genomic research in identifying vector competence, and insecticide resistant genes associated with this species. Internal Transcribe Spacer 2 sequencing is an efficient molecular tool for the identification of Anopheline mosquitoes. This tool has been successfully developed for species from the Maculipennis group and A. crucians complex but not for An. punctipennis type species. The goal of this study was to develop simple and robust molecular tools for identifying this species in the fields. Anopheline mosquito collections were made from multiple locations in the Mid-west to eastern U.S. Sequencing on the ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer 2 region (ITS2) of the genome provides positive and accurate identification of An. punctipennis. Developing a Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) assay using the ITS2 PCR products reduces time and cost in molecular identification and proves to be an accurate method of identification. This research will enable future population genetic studies that are important for the development of mosquito population control.
