Archeologie novověkých vojenských ležení, táborů a polních opevnění v jižních Čechách / Archaeology of the military camps and field fortifications from the modern period in the region of South BohemiaKONRÁDOVÁ, Monika January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis presents an overview of the archaeology of military camps and field fortifications from modern period (1498-1815) in the region of South Bohemia. It summarizes and evaluates the present South Bohemian research in the context of modern Euro-Atlantic conflict archaeology as well as the research conducted in Czech Republic. The recherché deals with published Czech and foreign research. An integral part of thesis is the description of the modern period war events concerning South Bohemia with overlap to bordering regions of Germany and Austria. The core of the study contains several case studies, where author presents various types of sites with temporary military constructions using different methodological approaches suitable for individual types. These include the siege of České Budějovice town during the Bohemian Revolt in the years 1618-1619 investigated by the analysis of the iconographic source, localisation and excavation of remains interpreted as one-off field fortification in Lhenice region, or the identification and interpretation of the field camp based on cartographic sources. These chapters presenting also results of field survey, are accompanied by further topics such as the role of castles in modern period conflicts or issue of borderline fortifications and camps.

Archéologie et dendrochronologie du bâti subalpin dans le massif du Mercantour durant le deuxième millénaire de notre ère / Archaeology and dendrochronology of the subalpine building in the French Mercantour massif during the second millenium of our eraLabbas, Vincent 17 November 2016 (has links)
My research focuses on the building located in the subalpine zone in the French Mercantour Massif (French Alps). These constructions, essentially related to summer agropastoralism, are the material expression of the occupation and exploitation of the mountain by the human communities during the second millenium of our era. The present approach has called upon dendrochronology and the building archeology in an interdisciplinary project. The study of 90 buildings whose woodwork has provided 541 dendrochronological dates, brings new data on the history of these constructions. The earliest ones dated back to the middle of the 12th century and were still standing in the early 20th century. Reconstructions and frequent renovations have underlined an economy of raw materials, among which pieces of larch (the main local tree and therefore mostly used), that were used all over again on each building or renovation site. The long chronologies of tree rings established during this present research have enhanced the importance of the master chronology of the larch in the southern Alps and provide new knowledge on the relationship between the mountain human groups and their surrounding forest resources.

Archeologie a architektura merojských sídlišť / Archaeology and architecture of Meroitic settlementsVrtal, Vlastimil January 2011 (has links)
Meroitic settlements had long remained on the periphery of scholarly interests, although there was still only a limited degree of our understanding of Meroitic society, economy and daily life. During past few decades, archaeological research carried out at many sites in the modern Republic of the Sudan brought to light new information on the form, function and dynamics of Meroitic urban centers. We have become better acquainted with principles involved in their planning and with architecture of civic buildings, and perhaps most importantly, with architecture of ordinary houses. There were obvious differences between settlements in different regions of the Meroitic kingdom, that seemingly stemmed from local ways of land exploitation and state control of local population. Yet these were only few of many influential factors. The data obtained by study of Meroitic settlements can be further used to estimate Meroitic population or evaluate the form and degree of social stratification.

Archeologie města Mostu (čp. 45-47). Vybrané kapitoly I / Archaeology of the town of Most (Nos. 45-47). Selected chaptersKabeláčová, Petra January 2021 (has links)
The submitted master's thesis deals with the issue of urban archaeology, specifically on the example of Most plots No. 45-47. It is based on a summary of knowledge gained during rescue archaeological research, which took place between 1977 and 1978. An integral part is also the analysis and evaluation of material culture finds together with the ceramic inventory, which became the basis for the chronological sequence. The question of possible production activities that could be operated within the plots is further addressed based on the found artifacts. The final part thematically focuses on the progress and character of development in the plots in the 13th - 16th century, considering other contexts - within the city of Most, archaeology of cities in the Czech lands and archaeology of cities in Central Europe. Key words urban archaeology, medieval plots, housing, outbuildings, everyday life
