Multi-arenor : Inverkan på turismnäringen- flöden- och symboliska värden / Multi-Purpose Stadiums : Impact on the Tourism Industry- Flows- and Symbolic Values

Napiorkowski, Filip, Högfors, Robin January 2014 (has links)
Sports centers, and in the case of this study, ice hockey arenas, have begun to bear more meaning than just an arena for sporting events and for the local athletic association. More and more stadiums have been developed into so called multi-purpose stadiums, and that means that those stadiums can host more than one form or type of event, whether it is a concert, sports meet or a convention. This study focuses on three different multi-purpose stadiums in three different Swedish cities. These stadiums are Läkerol Arena in Gävle, Löfbergs Arena in Karlstad and Cloetta Center in Linköping. By studying these stadiums, the authors of this study want to examine the phenomenon with multi-purpose stadiums. The authors want to see how much a multi-purpose stadium of this sort affects the tourism in a city that has one such stadium, furthermore if said stadium can be able to create new possibilities for events, if the stadium improves the city’s image and if such a stadium can become a symbol for a city or region. To better understand this phenomenon, this study will follow the producers’ perspective, that is, focus on the different producers that help develop the arena, attract new events as well as the producers of the tourism industry in these cities. This paper will use methods for research that focus on qualitative interviews with different producers, that is, those in charge of the stadiums and those in charge for the tourism industry in each city. This study furthermore includes a content analysis of these different cities’ travel brochures, to see how the stadium is being branded in said brochures. In addition to the brochures, the regional development plans of Gävle, Karlstad and Linköping, have also been studied to see whether or not the stadium in each city is included in their plans for further development. The epistemological approach of this study is of a social-constructivist type with hermeneutic interpretation learning. The various theories used for this paper, help to illustrate the problem area and further answer the aim of this study. These theories have their roots in events, sporting events, multi-purpose stadiums, event planning, competition, regional development, image-making and symbolism. The empiric data is presented further through chapters 5 to 7, where the first of these chapters focuses on existing branding and planning, thus presenting the information gathered from brochures and regional development plans whereas the remaining two chapters present the information gathered from the interviews that where conducted during this study, and thus focus on the producers thoughts, hopes and work methods to create a highly attractive stadium. The last chapters consist of the analysis of the gathered empirical as well as the theoretical material, where a discussion is held about the affected fields, to come to conclusions that mark the ending of this study. The main conclusions being the contribution the various stadiums make towards broader event possibilities for the various cities as well as the improved images of said cities with the help of these multi-purpose stadiums and the symbolic value these stadiums have brought to the cities and regions they are built in. To conclude this, these stadiums have had a positive impact on the tourism flows within their cities. Although, one must remember that these stadiums are most relevant to the hockey teams that play in these stadiums. Furthermore, there are some social differences between the cities of Gävle, Karlstad and Linköping that differentiate these cities from one another, but the overall traits are still very similar between these three study objects.

The Establishment of Open Innovation Arenas : Exploring Critical Aspects

Dyckmans, Christoph, Rooney, Simon January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore critical aspects in the establishment of an open innovation arena. This study considers only the perspective of science parks as the establisher and facilitator of the open innovation arenas. By understanding these critical aspects science parks and its participants can benefit from improved innovativeness. Using existing theories, a theoretical framework illustrating critical aspects for the establishment of an open innovation arena was created and subsequently tested through a qualitative research strategy. The research design included case studies into four science parks, three in Sweden and one in the UK, at various stages of establishing and facilitating open innovation arenas. The primary data comprised interviews with top management at each of the science parks, as well as one interview with a committee overseeing science parks in Sweden. The locations for the case study selection were based on Sweden and United Kingdom’s current prominence and success in fostering collaborations. The results of this study indicate that there are a number of critical aspects important during the establishment of open innovation arenas by science parks. Among these critical aspects are the selection of participants, a neutral and passive stance on formalization of contracts and IP, the creation of trust and motivation within the arena, the importance of the physical arena setting and the benefit of an arena topic area prominent amongst the surrounding participants. In addition, this study shows the importance of science parks’ neutral position, as well as the influence of the participants throughout all aspects. Based on these findings, practical and theoretical implications are presented and discussed in the paper. The key implications of this study are that science parks should play an active role to select appropriate projects and participants in order to create trust and motivation within the arena, provide a physical meeting place and access to specialized equipment that fosters communication and encourages collaboration among participants, as well as sourcing projects close to the science park’s geographical proximity. Additionally, they should choose one or more topic area and utilize networks in order to build up expertise, While science parks should play a passive role regarding formalization and IP regulations, it is important that they know how to assists the participants when requested.

Sea Turtles and the Environmental Management of Industrial Activities in North West Western Australia

Pendoley@newton.dialix.com.au, Kellie Lee Pendoley January 2005 (has links)
The nesting demographics of sea turtles using beaches within the Barrow, Lowendal, Montebello (B-L-M) island complex on the North West Shelf of Western Australia were examined in the context of their spatial and temporal distribution and potential for exposure to industrially based artificial light sources. The distribution of overnight turtle tracks throughout the island complex confirmed high density nesting of Chelonia mydas (green turtles) on deep, sandy and high energy beaches and Natator depressus (flatback turtles) on deep, sandy and low energy beaches, while Eretmochelys imbricata (hawksbill turtle) tracks were most visible on shallow, sandy beaches adjacent to near shore coral reef habitat. The three species exhibited a summer nesting peak. Hawksbill turtles commenced nesting in September and continued through to January, green turtles commenced in November and decreased in March. Flatback turtles displayed the most constrained nesting season reported to date in Australia with 86% of the animals visits recorded in December and January only. Nesting population sizes estimated for the three species suggest that on a national scale the B-L-M complex is a moderately large green turtle and a large flatback rookery site. The hawksbill rookery is large on an international scale. While none of the green turtle nesting beaches fell within a 1.5 km radius of industrially based artificial light sources an estimated 42% of nesting flatback turtles and 12% of nesting hawksbill turtles were potentially exposed to these light sources. Testing of green turtle and hawksbill hatchling response to different wavelengths of light indicate that hatchlings from the B-L-M region respond to low wavelength much like hatchlings tested in North America (Witherington 1992a). Flatback hatchlings displayed a similar preference for low wavelength light however their responses to discrete light wavelengths between 400 nm and 700 nm suggest that this species may not discriminate well between wavelengths that lie between 450 nm and 550 nm. This response may be related to the rapid attenuation of visible light that occurs in the turbid near shore habitats favoured by this species. Field based arena studies carried out to investigate hatchling behaviour on nesting beaches with light types commonly used in industrial settings found green turtle and flatback hatchlings are significantly attracted to these lights compared to controls. Lights that emit strongly in the low wavelength range (i.e. metal halide and fluorescent) caused hatchling misorientation at lower intensities than the test light that emitted relatively poorly in this range (high pressure sodium vapour). Hawksbill hatchlings tested in situ under the influence of actual oil and gas onshore and offshore facility based lighting were disrupted from the most direct line to the ocean by these light emissions. Emergence fan mapping methods that measure hatchling orientation on nesting beaches were refined and are proposed as an alternative monitoring tool for use on beaches that are logistically difficult to access for large scale experimental orientation studies. The hatchling behaviour was clearly complicated by beach topography and moon phase. Satellite tracking of post nesting female green and hawksbill turtles from North West Shelf rookeries has identified the Western Australian location of migratory corridors and foraging grounds for these species while Scott Reef turtles migrate from their south Timor Sea rookery to Northern Territory waters. Green turtle nesting on Barrow Island and Sandy Island (Scott Reef) forage at feeding grounds 200 – 1000 km from their nesting beaches. Hawksbill turtles nesting at Varanus Island and Rosemary Islands forage at locations 50 – 450 km from their nesting beaches. While all of the nesting beaches within the B-L-M island complex are protected under the Barrow-Montebello Marine Conservation Reserves, the only foraging ground similarly protected is the Northern Territory foraging ground used by Scott Reef green turtles. None of the foraging grounds used by North West Shelf green or hawksbill turtles is currently protected by conservation reserves.

Scratches in the Scrovegni Chapel and Inscriptions in Issogne Castle: Conversations in Post-Medieval Graffiti

January 2012 (has links)
abstract: Graffiti at the Arena Chapel and Issogne Castle engage in conversation with the frescoes and the functions of the spaces. These marks produce discussions of cultural issues. The graffiti found in the chapel and castle can be considered ritual and performative acts, visually documenting conversations among diverse audiences in the late medieval and early modern periods. Scholars of the Arena Chapel frescoes have studied the intricate painted iconography. Adding graffiti to the analysis of the chapel allows for a different interpretation of one of the most famous fresco programs. Abundant marks appear on figures in the scene of Hell in the Last Judgment, and are analyzed in terms of the medieval concepts of optics and sight, as well as in respect to class. At Issogne Castle, visitors inscribed graffiti on figures and scenes to represent their responses to key social issues. These included questions of class and occupation, along with political and religious concerns. Contextualizing graffiti in this way enables contemporary scholars to uncover a more complex and subtle understanding of the conversations on the wall in the late medieval and early modern periods through case studies of two monuments of art history. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.A. Art History 2012

Seguimiento de Tramos de Pavimentos Asfálticos del Tipo Cape Seal en la III Región

Arriagada Álvarez, Gustavo Felipe January 2008 (has links)

The thesis aims to analyze the configuration of arena formed by the Municipal Council of Education in a complex territory. The context that permeates this theme refers to the challenges of local governance models, which sometimes is guided in decentralization of public actions, the assembly of forces to multiple solutions, in that ambivalent dispute, it is understood the concept of inter-organizational arena, with convergences and divergences among sectors, governments and scales. The Brazilian educational overview is marked by a historic for hegemony in determining the educational management and its culmination in the local system, which is the impact of all other systems (global, national, state and regional). is accentuated more this context with the approval of Law No. 13,005 / 2014 establishing the new National Education Plan 2014 to 2024. In this sense, the thesis conducts an effort to overcome the macro view, permeating and deepening the look on a case emblematic of the territorial issue: the town of Abaetetuba, state of Para in the Amazon. Territory underexplored and great potential for understanding the challenging scenario of inter-organizational arena, given its territorial spread between imbricated space of rural characteristics, urban, islands and roads. As well as disputes powers in global scales, national, regional and local conforms the research object. For the research, the methodology used rests on three main strategies: 1) The socio-territorial reconstitution in the educational field, which is supported by the discourse analysis and documentation of Brazil and specific education of the local arena, in order to capture the trajectories individual and collective organization to understand the current state of the councils; 2) The inter character of the municipal councils, which seek refuge in participating observations in forums of discussions on the boards, between boards and other stakeholders, particularly in the discussion of the Municipal Education Plan - SMEs; and 3) Finally, the adherence of the theoretical and empirical categories, which aims to anchor the data collected from the standpoint of directors and inter-organizations involved. Data analysing techniques are based on these strategies using two qualitative data organization software, hIMC C-Map Tools and Atlas Ti. It is expected with the results to understand whether the educational management at the municipal level identifies gaps and define strategies between the theory of inter-organizational arena and the practice of municipal councils, answering how to set up an arena in the city Board of Education for the formulation of educational management of a complex territory?

Paulo Vinicius Bio Toledo 16 October 2013 (has links)
The study aims to interpret the theoretical reflections of Oduvaldo Vianna Filho about theater and engagement between 1958 and 1974 in the light of the progress of the country\'s history and the spins in the development of culture in that period. Vianinha, besides actively participating in key moments in the history of Brazilian theater, such as Teatro de Arena (Arena Theatre), the CPC (Popular Centre of Culture) of UNE (National Students Union) and Grupo Opinião (Group Opinion), also has a significant reflexive production on the development of the so called participant theater. His speculative work is one of the most significant documents in the history of theater in those years. Through the analysis of two exemplary articles of the author\'s thought, namely, Do Arena ao CPC (From Arena to CPC) and Um pouco de pessedismo não faz mal a ninguém (A little pessedismo does not hurt anyone), written in two completely different periods, 1962 and 1968, respectively, separated by the gross disruption of 1964, this work attempts to observe the oscillation characteristic of Vianna\'s ideas as part of the truncated and conservative development of Brazil.
