A descriptive study of the role of the high school assistant principal in the state of IndianaGrate, Sherry L. January 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of high school assistant principals in Indiana. In this descriptive study, the researcher examined (a) the job responsibilities and duties of the high school assistant principal, (b) the degree of involvement in the job responsibilities and duties of the high school assistant principal, (c) the degree of job satisfaction for areas of administrative responsibilities, and (d) the areas of responsibility that high school assistant principals were provided the most and least training to prepare them for the principalship.The study was limited to the population of high school assistant principals in Indiana public schools. Out of 492 high school assistant principals, 271 responded to a paper or on-line version of the survey instrument used in this study. The survey instrument included 141 forced responses divided into four sections: Duties and Responsibilities, Job Satisfaction, Preparation, and Demographics.Of the six administrative areas in this study, high school assistant principals reported having a greater level of responsibility for duties in the area of school management and the lowest level of responsibility in the area of community relations. In terms of job satisfaction, assistant principals reported being most satisfied with the performance of duties related to student activities and least satisfied with duties related to curriculum and instruction. Assistant principals reported being the most prepared to perform duties related to student activities and least prepared for those duties related to curriculum and instruction. The demographics gathered from the study revealed that most high school assistant principals in Indiana were male, white, married, served over five years in this position and in the next three to five years plan to remain in their current position.Conclusions and recommendations of this study focused on developing a consistent definition of the role of the assistant principal in Indiana. In addition, if assistant principals are content in making this a career-oriented position, then state officials, universities, and school districts, must collaborate to provide a system of training and development of well-rounded knowledgeable leaders for the future of our high schools in Indiana. / Department of Educational Leadership

An examination of expected versus actual tasks of public school secondary assistant principals throughout IndianaScott, Valerie M. 24 January 2012 (has links)
It is generally recognized that the assistant principal’s position is a launching
point for a career in school administration. The scarcity of research and literature
pertaining to the role of the assistant principal led the researcher to compare the actual
tasks being performed by public school assistant principals to their ideal job expectations.
Assistant principals throughout Indiana participated in the study. The sample
consisted of 283 assistant principals, who completed a 59-item survey developed by
Kriekard (1985). From the sample, 152 responded via email (53.7%), while another 131
(46.2%) responded by mail. The overall response rate was 54%.
The study sought to distinguish what job responsibilities were expected and
performed by secondary assistant principals based on the six task areas in the survey.
These included: Management of Schools, Leadership in Staff Personnel, Community
Relations, Instructional Leader, Student Activities, and Pupil Personnel (Kriekard, 1985).
Using SPSS as the statistical program, the results of this study indicated that
assistant principals today are still performing many of the same duties that assistant principals performed in the 1960s. Significant results were found within the tasks areas of: Management of Schools (.000), Leadership in Staff Personnel (.000), Instructional Leader (.000) and Student Activities (.000). This suggests a significant decrease from actual job responsibilities as compared to the expected job responsibilities. Significant
differences were also found within the independent variables of age, school setting, and career aspirations using T-test and ANOVA procedures. These findings were discussed and future research was suggested. / Department of Educational Leadership

A Verified Algorithm for Detecting Conflicts in XACML Access Control RulesSt-Martin, Michel 11 January 2012 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to find provably correct methods for detecting conflicts between XACML rules. A conflict occurs when one rule permits a request and another denies that same request. As XACML deals with access control, we can help prevent unwanted access by verifying that it contains rules that do not have unintended conflicts. In order to help with this, we propose an algorithm to find these conflicts then use the Coq Proof Assistant to prove correctness of this algorithm. The algorithm takes a rule set specified in XACML and returns a list of pairs of indices denoting which rules conflict. It is then up to the policy writer to see if the conflicts are intended, or if they need modifying. Since we will prove that this algorithm is sound and complete, we can be assured that the list we obtain is complete and only contains true conflicts.

Previous issue date: 2005 / O objetivo deste estudo é conhecer, analisar e refletir sobre como vem
ocorrendo o Ensino da Pediatria na Graduação das Escolas Médicas do Rio de
Janeiro, delineando algumas características dos docentes responsáveis por
este ensino e correlacionando os dados obtidos com a literatura pertinente. A
investigação destas questões se deu a partir de 15 Coordenadores,
responsáveis pelo Ensino da Pediatria nos 16 Cursos de Graduação em
Medicina em funcionamento no Estado. Optamos por desenvolver uma
pesquisa de caráter exploratório, descritiva, realizada através de um estudo do
tipo corte transversal e construída a partir de abordagem quantitativa e
qualitativa. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de entrevistas semi-estruturadas e
de documentos institucionais . Na organização do ensino entre os cursos
investigados, observa-se que a inserção da pediatria, os cenários de
aprendizagem utilizados, os critérios para seleção dos conteúdos divergem
pouco entre si. As dificuldades mais referidas estão afeitas à infraestrutura e ao
projeto pedagógico do curso, principalmente a questão da integração intra e
inter disciplinas, a articulação docente assistencial e o sistema de avaliação
que, para a maioria, encontra-se focado no processo avaliativo do aluno.
Discutem-se alguns traços do perfil docente, além de se verificar que os
atributos considerados mais significativos para o exercício da docência de
pediatria estão baseados na perspectiva humanística, no gostar do que faz, no
domínio do assunto, na capacidade de ensinar, na dedicação e na
disponibilidade do docente. O percentual de titulação acadêmica encontrado revela a busca docente e institucional pela capacitação profissional.
Acreditamos, com este estudo, estar contribuindo para a melhor compreensão
do ensino da pediatria como parte fundamental para a formação geral do
médico na graduação além de incentivar a busca de novos caminhos que
apontem para a melhor qualidade e aperfeiçoamento deste ensino. / The aim of this study is understand, analyze and reflect about how the
Pediatric’s Teaching in Undergraduated in Medical Schools of Rio de Janeiro,
has been occuring, outlining some characteristics of the responsible professors
for this teaching and correlating the obtained data with the pertinent literature.
The research of this question was given to 15 coordinators, responsible for
Pediatrics teaching at the 16 open undergraduated courses in the state. We
opted to develop a research of investigative and descriptive character, carried
through a crossover study and built from a quantitative and qualitative
approach. The dada were obtained from semi-structured interviews and from
institucional documents. Concerning the teaching organization among the
investigated courses, it was observed that the insertion of pediatrics, the utilized
scenes of learning, the criteria for the selection of the contents diverge a little bit
between each other. The majority mentioned difficulties are related to the
infrastructure and the pedagogical project of the course, mainly the intra and
inter discipline integration questions, the assistencial teaching articulation and
the evaluation system that, for the majority, has been focused in the scholar’s
evaluation process. Some traces of the teaching profile have been debated,
besides it has been verified that the attributes considered more significant for
the exercise of Pediatrics teaching are based on the humanistic perspective, in
being pleased to what one makes, in the domain of the subject, in the capacity
for teaching, in the devotion and availability of the professor. The percentage of
titled academic found, reveals the teaching and the institucional search for the professional qualification. We believe, with this study, to be contributing for a
better understanding of the pediatrics teaching as a fundamental part for the
doctor’s general formation in the undergraduated, besides stimulating the
search of new ways that lead to a better quality and improvement of this

A novel way to increase the likelihood of hiring high quality medical educatorsVerbruggen, Connor 02 November 2017 (has links)
BACKGROUND: In recent years, medical and physician assistant (PA) education has moved towards a competency based model. This model encourages teaching students to “know how” to use what they learn in practice rather than simply gain a large knowledge base. This allows students to garner a deeper understanding of the material. Active learning strategies such as flipped classroom and interactive learning, have gained great support in recent years. These models have helped further the ability of universities to move towards these competency based education models. At the core of these newer teaching and learning modalities are the instructors themselves. They play a vital role in not only what a student learns, but how well they learn it.
LITERATURE REVIEW: A literature review highlights both the importance of hiring quality instructors as well as the importance of their ability to fulfill these new teaching models. There have been numerous studies on how effective teaching influences a student’s performance in the classroom. To date, there has not been any research on how to increase the probability of hiring an effective instructor from day one.
PROPOSED PROJECT: The objective of this study is to develop a tool that would help employers screen for potentially less qualified candidates. The proposed tool is a questionnaire that would be filled out by potential employees and would raise a red flag if a potentially concerning answer choice was selected. The validity of this questionnaire will be tested by comparing current physician assistant didactic and clinical instructors’ scores on the questionnaire, to their respective student evaluations.
CONCLUSION: It is predicted that a “red flag” score on/this questionnaire will correlate with poor instructor scores on student evaluations. Successful validation and deployment of this tool would allow students to be instructed by the best possible instructors, bettering their education.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed by Congress in 2010 as a health policy initiative to improve the effectiveness of the United States healthcare system. Policies and regulations under the ACA include provisions to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of medical services which has resulted in a transition of payment systems from fee-for-service (FFS) reimbursement models to value-based reimbursement (VBR) models. Policies under the ACA also encouraged the formation of affordable care organizations (ACOs) which endorse new models of healthcare delivery, specifically team-based care models, to increase the efficiency, quality and accessibility of medical care while at the same time controlling costs.
Although physician assistants (PAs) have been a proposed method for addressing the growing demand for high quality, cost-effective healthcare, research that explores the economic value and financial impact of physician assistants is limited. Currently, productivity metrics are used to determine the economic value of physicians and PAs. Current methods of measuring productivity include volume-based metrics and claim based data. Although these methods may be sufficient for measuring physician productivity, they fail to account for PA practices. Current productivity metrics also fail to account for a vast majority of PA productivity due to current billing policies that do not capture all services provided by PAs.
In this study, we will explore the financial impact associated with the addition of PAs to ten different physician-owned family medicine practices by measuring the percent increase in net annual practice revenue one year after the employment of a PA. Net practice revenue is defined as the total revenue generated per provider per year minus overhead costs associated with provider employment.

O Lean Theorem Prover, desenvolvido em 2012 por Leonardo de Moura, é um assistente de provas que trabalha com descrição de provas através de uma linguagem computacional compilável. Propomos aqui uma descrição no Lean Theorem Prover das provas de funcionamento de diversos algoritmos pertinentes à área de criptografia. / [en] When describing a proof of a theorem, one must be cautious to ensure said proof does not contain errors or inconsistencies. For very long proofs, however, error detection can become humanly infeasible. A proof assistant is a program whose purpose is to perform said error detection efficiently, as well as to assist in the creation and comprehension of complex proofs out of simpler, existing proofs. The Lean Theorem Prover, developed in 2012 by Leonardo de Moura, is a proof assistant which functions via description of proofs in a compilable computer language. We present a description of proofs of correctness of various algorithms pertaining to cryptography in the Lean Theorem Prover.
