The main purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender in Turkish high school students. Factor structure of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale in Turkish high school was also investigated.
Four hundred and ninety five 11th grade high school students from four different state high schools in Ankara participated in the study. Turkish versions of Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS, Oral, 1999) and Relationship Scale Questionnaire (RSQ, Sü / mer & / Gü / ngö / r, 1999b) were administered to students to collect data in the class settings.
Factor analysis was employed to MPS items to identify the dimensions of perfectionism as perceived by the participants. Factor analysis revealed three factors named self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism. A 2 (gender) x 4 (attachment styles) factorial MANOVA was conducted to examine the possible associations between attachment styles and perfectionism and, whether such a relationship varies as a function of gender. The
results of the MANOVA revealed no significant relationship between attachment styles and perfectionism as a function of gender.

Toward a developmental origin of the predictors of health : how representations of childhood are associated with well-being in adulthoodBichteler, Anne 03 December 2013 (has links)
In this study I explored whether the way adults think about their early childhood is related to their perception of control, coping strategies, and health outcomes. The participants (N=78) in this study were administered the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) between 1 and 18 years ago, when they were new parents. The current online survey assessed perceived control (a composite of the Perceived Health Competency Scale and a general life control item), coping strategies (generated from a factor analysis of the Brief C.O.P.E. measure), anxiety (GAD-7), overweight (a composite of waist-to-hip ratio by body mass index), lifetime number of mental health diagnoses, and lifetime number of physical health diagnoses. As expected, non-problem-focused coping strategies and low perceived control were significantly associated with overweight and poor mental and physical health outcomes. This study added a developmental component to explain the roots of these maladaptive strategies: Dismissing speech on the AAI, characterized by idealizing childhood, minimizing childhood needs and/or distress, and emphasizing the normalcy and independence of one's upbringing strongly negatively predicted current perceived control and approach coping, relative to Secure speech. In fact, Dismissing speakers endorsed using fewer coping strategies over all. Given the pervasive influence of perceived control and active coping on myriad aging and health outcomes, the origins of these strengths is of particular interest. Dismissing speakers, although they endorse experiencing less anxiety, are clearly faring the worst. Attachment theory as a framework for explaining lifespan agency, anxiety, health behaviors, and outcomes is discussed. / text

Philippines, the world’s largest labor exporter – a story about the left-behind children. : A qualitative study of how teachers perceive that left-behind children are affected.Isaksson Castro, Amanda January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine how the Filipino children are affected when either one or both of their parents are living and working abroad based from a teacher’s point of view. Focus is directed towards influences on the daily life of children. The study is based on qualitative interviews with six high school teachers, from two different schools. Their statements have been analyzed by using the theory of attachment and sentence categorization. The teachers described that they think it is a common thought that left-behind children tend to have a bad behavior. However, none of these teachers described the children that they are teaching in that manner but in fact, they described them as responsible, independent and good students. Conclusion of the study is that the cultural context and the environment affect how the children are able to cope with their situation. It was also found that the role of the mother has a significant importance for these children. There is also great need of a motherly and fatherly figure, even though it is not the biological parents of the children.

Barns anknytning i förskolan : Separationsångest mellan barn och pedagogEjdre, Anna January 2013 (has links)
My essay is about a dilemma that came up on a preschool that I worked in. My purpose with my essay is to examine and to get an understanding for what children with attachement and separation anxiety goes through, and how a preschool teacher the best way can help them. The background story is about a boy named Sixten (not his real name). When separated from one of the preschool teachers Sixten exhibits a great deal of separation anxiety. In the story I give some clear examples of situations where Sixten displays this separation anxiety. I have in the essay viewed it from different perspectives and I have questioned my own role as an educator, but also my entire team. I have the whole time analyzed my own and my colleagues actions to be able to find out where the dilemma really is. I have gained new knowledge through the study of academic literature and my own analysis of the situations with separation anxiety. I have also learned how to use that knowledge in my work as a preschool teacher.

Attachment style and socio-emotional behaviour in young children.Karodia, Aneesa. January 2001 (has links)
Attachment research overlaps with many fields within psychology and is a highly under researched topic in South Africa.
This study examined the relationship between the attachment style of Grade 1 learners
and their socio-emotional behaviour. The following hypothesis was examined: Grade 1
learners who are securely attached display more age-appropriate socio-emotional
behaviors than their counterparts who are not securely attached. The aims of the research
were to: i.) describe mothers' perceptions of their children's attachment styles; ii.)
investigate children's perceptions of their relationship with their primary caregiver and,
iii.) describe the nature of the relationship between attachment style and certain aspects of
socio-emotional behaviour in young children. In order to meet the above aims, the
researcher constructed the Childhood Attachment Style Questionnaire (CASQ). In
addition to the CASQ, the Preliminary Screening Checklist (PSCL), the Child Behaviour
Scale (CBS) and the Kinetic Family Drawing test (KFD) were used to achieve the aims
of the study. The sample consisted of 100 subjects who had met the criteria for
participation in the study. Statistical and qualitative analyses of the data partially
confirmed the hypothesis that secure Grade 1 learners were more likely to display age-appropriate socio-emotional behaviour as opposed to their insecure counterparts.
Based on the findings of the study, various recommendations are made which have
widespread relevance to the issues of behaviour problems, custody disputes and
HIV/AIDS. / Thesis (M.Ed.)-University of Durban-Westville, 2001.

Attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety predict attractiveness devaluation: how individuals in relationships manage the relationship threat posed by attractive alternativesWhite, Caelin 19 June 2015 (has links)
Research on the devaluation of attractive alternatives has consistently shown that the strength of one’s relationship commitment can influence an individual’s judgements about the attractiveness of a potential mate. Specifically, depending on a person’s degree of relationship commitment, he or she may devalue the physical attractiveness of that alternative as a means of minimizing the perceived threat to his or her relationship. Because the devaluation process is argued to operate as a function of perceived relationship threat, I hypothesized that in addition to the beholder’s relationship commitment, the beholder’s attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, social anxiety, and generalized anxiety should also predict attractiveness devaluation, since a heightened perception of threat is a shared feature among these constructs. Additional theoretical rationale for these hypotheses is derived from modern evolutionary theories of attachment, particularly as they pertain to the function of attachment security within mating contexts. Additionally, I hypothesized that these same five variables would predict both relationship quality and relationship break-up six months after initial data collection. Results generally supported all six hypotheses with some important qualifications. Relationship commitment and social anxiety each predicted attractiveness devaluation in female participants only, and attachment anxiety and avoidance predicted devaluation in male participants only. Generalized anxiety also predicted attractiveness ratings for certain targets but only when the two facets of stress and anxiety were used as separate predictors. Moreover, evidence of devaluation was also found for traits other than attractiveness (i.e., interestingness and intelligence) as well as for same-sex targets. Finally, regarding relationship outcomes, participants who scored higher on measures of anxiety also reported being less committed to their relationships on average and had higher rates of break-up at follow-up. Clinical, social, and research implication of these findings are discussed.
