The Isolation of GATB Aptitude Patterns for Six Major Fields of Study

Cullum, Felder Wilson 08 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to isolate General Aptitude Test Battery patterns for persons who have succeeded in certain major fields of study at North Texas State University, Denton, Texas. In addition to the basic problem stated above, an effort was made to (1) determine the significance of the relationships between GATB scores and grade-point averages for all undergraduate courses taken; (2) determine the relationships between GATB scores and grade-point averages for all undergraduate courses in the major field of study, and (3) conduct a survey of all subjects selected for this study to determine their past, present and expected future fields of occupational endeavor since graduation from college and the relationship between such employment and the individual's major field of study in college.

Investigation of Contaminant Transport in Tidally-Influenced Aquifers: Experiment and Analysis

Chen, Hua 18 November 2010 (has links)
Tidally-induced head fluctuation is a natural phenomenon in coastal regions. The discharge of groundwater through sediments will occur anywhere that the aquifer is hydraulically connected to a surface water body and the time averaged tidally-influenced water level in the aquifer is higher than sea level, and almost all coastal regions are subject to such flow. With the development of coastal areas, the discharge of groundwater contaminants into tidally affected coastal water bodies has become a significant problem. Biota that live in the benthic region are known to be sensitive to the concentration of discharging anthropogenic chemical compounds. Thus the contaminant concentration entering the benthos is of very significant practical importance and its study is the focus of this dissertation. An investigation of the effect of tides on the concentration of groundwater contaminants discharging to a surface water body is studied using a one-dimensional homogeneous sand column. Results of the experiment are confirmed using a three-dimensional heterogeneous groundwater tank model. A constant water level is imposed upgradient, and the downgradient water level is controlled by a wave generator that controls the hydraulic head to mimic a 12 hour tidal fluctuation. The experimental results demonstrate that the tidal fluctuations in the downgradient reservoir result in a decrease in average contaminant concentration at the point of groundwater discharge to the surface-water body. The further upstream the well is located, the smaller the amplitude of the concentration oscillation. In addition, upstream migration of concentration oscillations is observed in spite of a net downgradient flow. Fourier analysis suggests that the dominant frequency of the peaks of pressure and chemical data at different locations along the length of the column is identically two cycles per day and that the amplitudes of the concentration oscillations increase with time at measurement locations at the upstream responding probes. As the classical groundwater flow and transport model cannot reproduce the phenomena we observed, an innovative multi-mobility model, is proposed with one highly mobile liquid phase, one less mobile liquid phase and a solid phase. Averaging theory is applied to develop the mass conservation equation from the microscale to the macroscale and facilitate the reduction of dimensionality to obtain one-dimensional governing equations with closure relations. A new finite volume method is utilized to solve the resulting equations. The simulation confirms the existence of the enhanced tidally-induced mixing process.

A Comparison of Methods to Construct an Optimal Membership Function in a Fuzzy Database System

Cunningham, Joanne Marie 01 January 2006 (has links)
A fuzzy set is one in which membership in a category is not Boolean, rather items have a degree of membership. Fuzzy databases expand on this idea by storing fuzzy data and allowing data to be retrieved based on its degree of membership. Determining the degree of membership that satisfies the largest number of users is difficult. Five different methods of determining the membership function: the Direct Rating Method, the Random Method with step sizes of .02 and .03, the Steplock Method, and the Weighted Average Method, were compared on the basis of convergence and user satisfaction. The results support use of the Direct Rating Method and the Steplock Method in conjunction with each other, to produce the membership function in the least time and with the highest user satisfaction.

Koncept průměrného spotřebitele v českém a evropském právu / The concept of an average consumer in Czech and European law

Kousalová, Martina January 2014 (has links)
RESUMÉ The concept of an average consumer in Czech and European law The aim of this diploma thesis called "The concept of an average consumer in Czech and European law" is to describe current trends in conceptualization this term. Methods used in this diploma thesis to achieve the defined objectives are the analysis of Czech and European legislation and both Czech and Communitarian case law. There were used monographic and comparative methods too. The initial part of the thesis describes the terms consumer and the average consumer are affected by secondary Communitarian legislation and case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union as well as by the case law of courts of the European Union members states. Another aim of the diploma thesis is to highlight that the model of average consumer needs to be viewed differently depending on in which area of economic competition it is currently located at. It is subjected to diverse claims in various areas. This was proved by several judicial cases. The function of the model of average consumer is to be a substitute for all consumers. Consumers' protection is provided through this model. As it is important to emphasize, the average consumer is just a model and does not strictly remain a legal person. The case analysis and comparisons led to the definition of...

Koncept průměrného spotřebitele v českém a evropském právu / The concept of an average consumer under Czech and European law

Jedlinský, Jakub January 2013 (has links)
1 The concept of an average consumer under Czech and European law RESUMÉ: The thesis is focused on the role of a so called average consumer under the law of unfair competition; namely concerning advertising and misleading labelling. The concept of an average consumer is being analysed under written law as well as in jurisprudence. The Czech and European laws are emphasized but other legal systems are also mentioned. A description of a current situation and history of the concept are accompanied by considerations de lege ferenda. Mainly the term consumer is being criticized as not quite suitable within the context of unfair competition. Unlike under the contract law, here the consumer does not represent an acting entity but a target or a prey. The current trend of weakening consumer's position-and therefore exaggeration's easing in advertising-is also criticized. Generally speaking, the advertising as such is being denounced; in particular because it harms the consumer and thus it is buck passing to speak about a consumer's protection while protecting and helping a competitor in reality. The thesis deals with practical impacts of misleading labelling on a consumer (and/or a competitor). According to its own methodology, it divides the misleading labelling into three categories: promotional, unsatisfactory...

Vybrané vlivy na růst telat masného skotu

TOMKOVÁ, Michaela January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this work was to analyze selected effects on the growth of calves of a selected herd of aberdeen angus cattle in Mýto farm in Hořice na Šumavě for the monitored period of 6 years (2012 - 2017). A total of 242 pure-bred calves of the aberdeen angus breed born during the reference period was included in the evaluation. Birth weight, weight at 120, 210 and 365 days were determined in calves. Subsequently, the group of calves was sorted by sex, year of birth, month of birth, birth order, father's individuality and mother's exterior. The data were statistically processed in Microsoft Excel and evaluated in Statsoft Statistica. When confronted with the national average published in the KUMP deadlines, the observed calves always had a lower birth weight, but higher weight at 120, 210 and 365 days. When evaluating the effect of the year of birth on calf growth, it was found that calves born in 2012 and 2013 achieved the best results. The best months for calving aberdeen angus breeds on the monitored breed were February to April. In terms of birth order, calves born to cows after the third calving achieved the best results. The worst results were achieved by calves from heifers and cows after the ninth calving. The best breeding-bull in breed regarding to the growth ability of calves was the sire ZAA 916. The PAA 027 sire showed the best results in terms of ease of delivery. There was no significant difference in the effect of maternal exterior on the growth ability of calves.

Tandan, Isabelle January 2019 (has links)

[en] TURBULENT COMPLEX FLOW SIMULATION WITH CLASSICAL MODELING AND LARGE EDDY SIMULATION / [pt] SIMULAÇÃO DE ESCOAMENTO TURBULENTO COMPLEXO COM MODELAGEM CLÁSSICA E DE GRANDES ESCALAS

JOSE DINIZ MESQUITA ABRUNHOSA 06 January 2004 (has links)
[en] An investigation of turbulence models prediction capacity based on classical statistical modeling and large eddy simulation (LES) is presented. The classical statistical modeling (average of Reynolds) was analyzed, by investigating the solution of complex flows, as, for example, the turbulent flow past a backwardfacing- step (backstep). Special attention was given to low Reynolds number k-e models and models derived by renormalization group theory (RNG). The behavior of the different terms in the turbulent kinetic energy equation in the near wall region was examined in details, specially the pressure diffusion term. It was evaluated the importance of the correct modeling of the pressure diffusion term on the predictions of the low Reynolds number models, in recirculating flows. A few models, proposed in the literature for the pressure diffusion term, were also evaluated theoretically and numerically. The prediction capacity of large eddy simulation (LES) technique was also investigated. The ability of Smagorinsky model to predict complex limited wall flows was analyzed from a computational standpoint. The finite-volume method was employed to integrate both the Reynolds average and LES equations. The fully developed turbulent channel flow was solved in two- dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations. The turbulent flow over a backward-facing-step was computed exclusively in a twodimensional manner, while the fully developed turbulent flow in a straight square duct was simulated in a three-dimensional manner. The results were compared with those obtained by the low Reynolds models, analyzing the cost-benefit relation.

Desenvolvimento de um método para obtenção da eficiência de detecção para detectores HPGe em medidas com fontes extensas / Development of a method for obtaining the efficiency of detection in hpge detector with measures large sources

Santos, Roberto Manuel dos 16 April 2012 (has links)
Some well-established methods for the efficiency determination can be found in the literature. In the present work a method with distinct characteristics is proposed with the main advantages that it doesn\'t require previous knowledge of the detection geometry or of the sample composition; moreover, it allows the determination of the detection efficiency for a large sample based only on measurements using a point-like standard source. The proposed method was tested comparing the efficiency values obtained using the method with the values obtained using a real large source with the same composition and geometry. In order to verify the performance of the method under different conditions, soil matrixes of two different thicknesses (1cm and 3cm) were used; also, to asses the method under different sample compositions, 3cm-thick soil matrixes with increased effective atomic number (where iron filings was added) and with reduced effective atomic mass (where graphite powder was added) were used. The results indicate that the proposed method is suitable for thinner soil samples; as for thicker samples, two of the three results showed a subestimation of the detection efficiency value determined, suggesting that a more suitable sampling geometry should be analyzed.

SOUZA, R. M. \\Statistics on Bioequivalence: Guarantee in quality of generic drug\". 2008. 42 s Dissertation (Master Degree) Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeir~ao Preto - USP As an alternative to medicines for human use of great movement in Brazil, the use of generic medicines were regulated, according to the law of the generic no 9787/99, which establish the studies of bioavailability and bioequivalence in Brazil in order to evaluate bioequivalence of generic formulations, considering as reference existing medicinal products, with proved ecacy. Two formulations of the same drug are considered bioequivalents if your bioavailability do not present evidence of signicant dierences according to clinically specied limits known as bioequivalence limits. Bioequivalence studies are carried out by the administration of two formulations (one is in test and the other one is the reference) in a pre-dened number of volunteers using an experimental plan that is often the crossover one. After the withdrawn of successive blood or urinary samples in predetermined intervals, some pharmacokinetic parameters were studied, such as area under concentration curve, maximum concentration of drug and time that the maximum concentration occurs. This dissertation introduces some basic concepts of bioequivalence and following that, it is presented Bayesian analysis for both as univariate and as multivariate bioequivalence measures assuming the multivariate normal distribution for the data and also the distribution of multivariate t student distribution. An application in order to illustrate what was introduced is presented in this work, and by using means of selection criteria of models, it was observed that for all data on study, there were evidences that lead to choose the multivariates models in order to conduct this study of average bioequivalence.
